The Crusaders live on National Public Radio's "Jazz Alive" series on April 19th, 1977 in New Orleans. Having formed in their native Texas as 1950s schoolkids, this legendary band relocated to Los Angeles as the Jazz Crusaders in 1960, and began to formulate their unique hybrid of jazz, pop, soul and funk. By 1977 they were simply known as The Crusaders, and had recorded prolifically, as well as making guest appearances on albums by artists as varied as Michael Jackson, Joni Mitchell, Marvin Gaye and Steely Dan. This superb set was performed at New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on April 19th 1977, as they approached the peak of their commercial success. The performance was broadcasted on NPR's "Jazz Alive" series. Includes background notes and images.
