This is the debut collaborative release from IMPS, a collaboration between Malmö's Minilogue and two jazz musicians from Melbourne, Australia. The songs were recorded during a two-week long improvisation/jam session where everything was recorded live (with some post-production) in an attempt to capture the feeling of real-time, actively performed acoustic instruments mixed with electronic craziness (also captured live). The result is a display of funk-fuelled jazz that shows how much can be done with open minds and shitloads of toys in a big studio. Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson came from opposing backgrounds. Sebastian was trained as a classical musician playing the organ, piano and the violin, while Marcus lived on a diet of Kraftwerk and Front 242. They met at a party and decided to combine Sebastian's musician's perspective with Marcus' DJ skills from the Swedish scene. After achieving some success as Son Kite and Trimatic, Marcus and Sebastian are now Minilogue -- an animalistic music concept without the boundaries of genres. Through the years, their music has expanded and moved through a variety of sounds, appealing across the board of electronic music. They make music that is built for peak-time dancefloors as well as for laid-back listening, producing a sound that is industrial, vivid and continually provocative. IMPS are: Ian Chaplin (soprano sax, Rhodes, drums & percussion); Philip Rex (double bass, electric bass, guitar, drum machines); Sebastian Mullaert (viola, Moog, Voyager, Rhodes, synths, tape delay, tweak master, computer programming & samplers, post production); Marcus Henriksson (drum machine, computer programming & samplers, post production).
