2008 release. Amadou Sodia is a central figure in the vibrant music scene of today's Guinea. The son of a poet, he was born Amadou Doumbouya in the town of Fadama, close to the center of the West African nation. It was under the Doumbouya name that he joined the Horoya Band, one of the most popular groups in Guinea in the 1970s and '80s. A man of many talents, he was (and remains) famous for his mastery of the bolon (the four-string instrument pictured on the cover of Ça Va Se Savoir) as well as for his compositions and his voice. He was a featured singer in guitarist Ousmane Kouyate's landmark album of 1990, Domba. Ça Va Se Savoir is Sodia's second album. The Sterns Africa edition includes two bonus tracks from his first CD. Ousmane Kouyate, Salif Keita's guitarist, is back with Sodia for this album, renewing the collaboration begun 18 years ago with Domba. Also featured in this album are the guitarist Kante Manfila (another Salif Keita alumnus) and Djeli Moussa Diawara, the acclaimed maestro of the kora, the 21-string West African harp. Kerfala Kante and Sekouba Bambino join their distinctive voices to Sodia's in several songs. Throughout, the multi-layered arrangements sensitively balance acoustic and electric instruments and traditional and modern styles.
