Discipline is the pseudonym of Joseph Ghosn, who has been releasing music since the end of the '90s. His first album, 4 Moogs, was a tribute to American minimalism and Steve Reich. Ghosn explains the concept behind Beyrouth: "Within the context of the recent war between Israel and Hezbollah, releasing an album entitled Beyrouth is a cultural gesture that cannot be apolitical. Nevertheless, this work was made long before this conflict arose. It is actually composed of super 8 films shot in the beginning of the '70s in Beirut, during the years preceding the first Lebanon war started in 1975. Two movies were edited from these old 8mm tapes and two soundtracks were composed. One of these soundtracks was produced on a laptop, the other one was improvised watching the images with a Moog, a Fender Rhodes, some effects and electronic loops. Now prepare to dive into the intimacy of a Lebanese recomposed family that could also have belonged to another country, without war." Ghosn was born in Beirut and the images from the DVD were shot by his father. This DVD is housed in a limited-edition, numbered boxset with an individual original photo taken in Beirut, on the cover. The boxset includes a musical DVD and two 7" vinyls featuring a track made by Discipline and K.I.M. Each 7" is one-sided. The B-sides are hand-drawn by Charles Berberian. Format note: the DVD is European region-free PAL format only, which may not be compatible with many U.S. DVD players (should play on all computers).
