LP version. 2014 release. French composer Laurent Petitgand joined the Geins't Naït project in 1987, one year after its inception in 1986. Petitgand has since been recognized for his compositional work for the late French singer Alain Bashung and his original soundtracks for Wim Wenders (including Tokyo-Ga (1985), Wings of Desire (1987), and The Salt of the Earth (2014)) and Paul Auster (The Inner Life of Martin Frost (2007)), as well as ballet music for Angelin Preljocaj (Liqueurs de Chair (1990), Amer America (1990)). While Geins't Naït offers rough pieces of music as an extension of its punk attitude, Petitgand refines them to create some musicality within the post-industrial collages, adding guitars, piano, and classical instruments. Geins't Naït and Laurent Petitgand sharpen sounds, giving them a kind of balance and density and ensuring that the musical language evokes a deep experience. Their collaboration is something of a French counterpart to the experimental scenes of the UK (Coil, Current 93, Test Dept) and Germany (Einstürzende Neubauten, Sprung Aus Den Wolken). Je vous dis mixes ambient, industrial, and minimalist musics, giving life to its smallest elements, be it be a sample, a piano melody, or a voice. Melancholic, with a fearsome yet restrained violence, the disturbing nocturnal mood and unsettling humanity of Je vous dis surprise and captivate. The difficulty is not in getting into this world, but in getting out of it.
