"The classic 1981 and 1982 albums by post-Radio Birdman/pre-Hoodoo Gurus outfit The Hitmen get the deluxe reissue treatment. The release of these is timed to anticipate the forthcoming three-part Do The Pop! Redux series, (which features Birdman, The Hitmen and other Birdman-related bands), and a Johnny Kannis & Chris Masuak-led Hitmen tour in December. Formed by Birdmen Chris Masuak and Warwick Gilbert and Birdman MC/backing vocalist Johnny Kannis soon after Birdman's initial demise in '78, The Hitmen also featured future Gurus mainstays Brad Shepherd and Mark Kingsmill by the time they came to record their self-titled debut in '81 and its follow-up It Is What It Is in '82. The band was hugely popular on the Australian pub circuit in the early '80s, and are credited with taking the high-energy Americanized rock of Radio Birdman (and their influences including The Stooges and The MC5) to the suburbs. Overlooked for far too long, The Hitmen's music is ripe for re-evaluation, and Savage Beat!/Shock's deluxe reissues will provide ample opportunity. Each album will be accompanied by a massive booklet with lengthy notes and numerous images. More importantly, each will be expanded to include about 45 tracks, with a bounty of previously unheard demo and live material added to each set. Hitmen classics like 'Didn't Tell The Man,' 'I Want You,' 'I Don't Mind,' 'Corridors Of Power,' 'Rocket On The Elevator Up' and '15 Hours' are featured alongside long lost fan favorites like 'Cold December' and 'Wings Of Steel,' as well as incredible covers of The Sonics, MC5, Iggy, 13th Floor Elevators, Blue Oyster Cult, Dictators, Bo Diddley and The Flamin' Groovies' great 'Shake Some Action.' Fans of Radio Birdman, The Hoodoo Gurus and the great Australian band's that followed in The Hitmen's wake, like The Screaming Tribesmen, The New Christs and The Lime Spiders, will find music on these CDs an absolute revelation. There has been considerable demand from around the world for these reissues for years; both were only available on CD briefly in the early '90s. Those CDs have been going for more on eBay than the original vinyl even. The sheer volume and quality of the extra material here will absolutely thrill fans of this music -- there is excitement aplenty already on the net!"
