This is the debut release by Belgian producer Jonathan Troupin, who will be a name to watch in 2006. The title track sets out a brave new order for electronic dance music, as Jona combines the gritty, dubby beats and glitchy percussion of Berlin's finest with a house swagger alien to most minimal music. He then proceeds to add in a soaring trance riff that subtly builds over the scuffled backing. "Learning From The Mistakes" is a future classic in waiting. On the flip, Jona takes more chances with "Full Pool," laying down an insidiously infectious blues rock guitar riff over squelchy beats and a bleepy electronic bassline. Equal parts classic rock and futuristic German studio engineering, The Learnings dares to go where no others have ventured.
