Raga Darbari Kanhada, Raga Desh
"The enchanting North Indian vocalist Lalith Rao presents two ragas from the Hindustani classical tradition, accompanied by harmonium, tempura and tabla. An exponent of the dhrupad style, the oldest genre within the tradition dating back to the 14th century, Rao underwent personal crisis in 1994 in which she lost her singing voice. It is only after years of patient re-education that she has now attained her previous high level of performance. The booklet contains bilingual notes including a long interview with the artist. Rao is a disciple of Pandit Rama Rao Naik and Ustad Khadim Husain Khan, both of the Agra-Atrauli gharana."
