"Deluxe vinyl edition of the final night at the Paradise Garage, featuring the live finale from legendary DJ Larry Levan. Apparently this is the first installment in a series of five total releases to feature 12" vinyl recordings of the continuous mix. Far from a hidden gem of historical obscurity, 'Final Night of Paradise' documents the celebratory end-all party commemorating 10 years at the Garage and featuring a steady regiment of classics established & championed by Levan over his storied career there. There's nothing extremely edgy or obscure about the mix; if anything it testifies to the straightforward intuitiveness & communicative receptivity of Levan's energy and verifies a time when songs could speak for themselves if handled & guided with meticulous care by the vanguard of artistic communal expression. But really more than anything this piece serves as an objective marker for an event that's been told & retold so many times to so many who could not be there for one reason or another. Instead of listening to the stories, which are invaluable in their own way, we can look toward this piece as a concrete reassurance. True, this 12" can't possibly capture the prolific nature those times, and anyone saying so would be foolish. Still there's something uncanny about hearing it all in action, in the real & unadulterated form of 'fact,' satisfying the absurd but good natured obsession of those infatuated with dance music lore while at the same time providing an existing account in the real." -- Dope Jams.
