"Votary Records is proud to present the first-ever full reissue of the Australian soundtrack masterpiece,
, composed by Sven Libaek. Originally released in 1973 as the score to Ron and Val Taylor's underwater aquatic odyssey, this important soundtrack not only stands as a paramount representation of the genre, but also as an example of the fertile music languishing in an antithetic Australia. Considered one of the unsung heroes of Australian Film music, Sven Libaek composed for many Australian films and TV series, most notably in the 1960s and '70s.
is considered amongst his finest. Conceptually sketching life under the sea,
is a brilliant example of incidental film scoring as it is strong jazz impressionism. Gentle yet propulsive Brazilian rhythms are mirrored with watery Moog and fluttering flutes, understated with forbidding horn phrases from the depths. Featuring the best of Australian jazz musicians such as Don Burrows, John Sangster, George Golla and Errol Buddle, they masterfully range from the incidental to the improvisational as they create a whirlpool of sublime aquatic jazz exotica. Notably, in 2004, the soundtrack had a second lease on life when several tracks were used in the Wes Anderson film
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
. CD jewel case with 8-page booklet plus new notes and photos. Please note that this is the first full 16-track reissue, and not to be confused with the Trunk records compilation of the same name which features a similar cover."
