Title: 50 Weapons Of Choice #10-19
Label: 50 WEAPONS (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: 50 002CD
Attractively-priced label compilation 50 Weapons Of Choice #10-19, with new & unreleased tracks on CD for the first time. Features tracks and remixes by Bok Bok, Modeselektor, Cosmin TRG, Falty DL, Phon.o, Anstam, Benjamin Damage, Doc Daneeka and HumanLeft. The label 50 Weapons is owned by Sebastian Szary and Gernot Bronsert aka Modeselektor, and is a division of Monkeytown Records. 50 Weapons (Fifty Weapons) will be very busy in presenting the finest DJ music and more. Long before Monkeytown Records, Modeselektor started the 50 Weapons label back in 2006 as an anonymous white label series. No artist names, no release information, no cover art, just pure high class DJ music. Modeselektor, Siriusmo, Housemeister, Moderat, Headhunter, T++ and Shackleton, Bok Bok, Roska and many more appeared on the earliest white labels, later bundled as 50 Weapons Of Choice #02-09, a CD that was released as an ultra-limited and numbered compilation, only available in selected indie stores. 50 Weapons Of Choice #10-19 comes as the even stronger follow-up, with many new label signings, big names and hot newcomers all combined on an almost one-hour long bass mission to defeat boredom. The CD comes in a jewel case with a silver/metallic special-printed hardcover.

Artist: COSMIN TRG
Title: Simulat
Label: 50 WEAPONS (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: 50 003CD
This is the debut full-length album from Cosmin TRG. Since 2007, Cosmin TRG has been earning a well-earned reputation with the electronic elite. In that time, the now Berlin-based DJ, producer and live performer has amassed an enviable discography which traverses a number of ghostly styles, moods and tempos. Having released music on an appropriately diverse array of labels including Hessle Audio, Rush Hour and Hemlock, as well as BPitch, Tempa and Fifty Weapons has marked out the Romanian as a distinguished producer with a discernable voice all his own. It should come as no surprise, then, that the debut Cosmin TRG album is as considered as it is. Sure, there are tracks which will work both on and off the dancefloor, but it's the way they're threaded together, making for one cohesive and coherent statement overall that stands them apart. Made up of 12 new tracks, each has been exclusively produced for the album while CD-only track "Fizic" is to be the lead single. Opening on a typically solid but simultaneously surfing groove, things are alluringly urgent and typically textured from the off. Taking appropriate detours into deeper pockets; areas of warm analog ambiance and abstract alien sounds, there are traces of everything that has gotten Cosmin to this point so far, all re-visioned with an ever-shifting focus. To call the album so-and-so house or some sort of techno doesn't do it any sort of justice. Quite simply, it's an all new language. Once again confirming Cosmin to be a producer in constant experimental flux, Simulat speaks loudly of an essential talent.

Artist: ANSTAM
Title: Dispel Dances
Label: 50 WEAPONS (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: 50 004CD
This is the debut album from the two Anstam brothers. Their music has been charted by Radiohead's Thom Yorke, amongst many others. FACT Mag once wrote: "We don't know a lot about Anstam. No one does. That's part of the appeal." What 50 Weapons can reveal is the fact that Anstam used to be a duo of two brothers from Germany. They were responsible for a now-legendary trilogy of 12" releases circa 2007-2009 -- Brom, Aeto and Cree -- that assimilated the hardest, most dystopian flavors of dubstep, grime and junglism into a disciplined, techno-savvy framework that betrays their Berlin provenance. And then -- two long years passed without incident. In 2011, Anstam came back to life. First, with a contribution to a split 10" with Phon.o on the B-side and later, with a new solo 12" named Baldwin/Carmichael. The first 3 new Anstam tracks in a long time caused yet another stir in the electronic music community. A highly-praised, diverse, moody and dark podcast for FACT Mag in May 2011 showed their influences and favorites. Anstam played festivals such as Mutek and Melt, amongst others, and just finished a Radiohead remix of "Separator." 50 Weapons is extremely proud to finally present their debut album Dispel Dances, which is once again a showcase of outstanding talent. Dark, vibrant atmospheres, lurking synths and the most crushingly dynamic, dead-on-it beats you will hear all year.

Artist: DAMAGE & DOC DANEEKA, BENJAMIN
Title: They!Live
Label: 50 WEAPONS (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: 50 005CD
On their debut album They!Live, Benjamin Damage & Doc Daneeka present a versatile and deep journey through the territories of club-land, equally fitting for dancefloors and home-listening. This is a collection of Berlin-inspired, UK-influenced UK funky, deep-house, tech-house, Detroit- and dub-techno, all recorded in Berlin between late August and early November 2011. You'll find as much depth as you will find uplifting energy on here. There is as much darkness as light. Melodies and soundscapes go hand-in-hand with club-pleasing beats. On some tracks you will hear the lush voice of UK singer Abigail Wyles, who came to Berlin to record with the Swansea boys. For Benjamin Damage it all began with the raw, energy-fueled Maximum Carnage mix tapes with DJ Venom, mixing up bassline/niche rhythms with the emerging UK funky sound. Following this, was the insanely catchy "Deeper" for Doc Daneeka's Ten Thousand Yen label, which was perhaps the true beginning of the deep rave sound. Following the success of "Deeper" came the brilliantly-diverse four-track solo EP Antidote. Featuring haunting melodies, intricate rhythms and vicious bass, the record was supported by the likes of Jackmaster, Sinden and Seb Chew and received radio play on Rinse FM and Radio 1. "Creeper," the first collaboration with Doc Daneeka, moved the deep rave sound on further into the beautiful and unexplainable. Sent directly to Modeselektor on New Year's Eve, it saw a huge San Francisco audience into 2011 that very night and was promptly signed the next day onto their 50 Weapons label. With the B-side "Infamous" complete, the duo was shipped out to a huge studio in central Berlin to write this magnificent album.

Artist: ADDISON GROOVE
Title: Transistor Rhythm
Label: 50 WEAPONS (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: 50 006CD
Following several releases for the well-known Tempa label (as artist Headhunter), the debut album for the current new project by Antony Williams aka Addison Groove is now released on Modeselektor's sub-label 50 Weapons! Addison Groove started life under a different pseudonym altogether. Recording as Headhunter, with an LP and 12" releases on the influential Tempa label stretching back to 2007, he achieved legendary status within the dubstep scene. His work at the deeper end of the spectrum graced the label an impressive seven times, a figure matched only by Skream. This work looked set to continue until 2010 when, seemingly out of nowhere, he crafted one of the biggest bass music tracks of the decade, "Footcrab," under the new name of Addison Groove. The response to "Footcrab" was phenomenal, receiving critical and commercial success in equal measure across the dance music scene. Getting plays not only from the dubstep DJs that Williams was used to reaching, it also found its way into the record boxes of techno and house heavyweights such as Aphex Twin, Surgeon, Ricardo Villalobos and Mr. Scruff, bringing an enormous new audience to his music in the process. Taking influences from the Chicago ghetto tek and juke scenes, Addison Groove's impact on UK bass music has been colossal and unprecedented, sparking a huge interest in these styles from his peers and the listening public alike. Transistor Rhythm is a rare example of a release where the description "much-anticipated" is not just a fantasy of some PR agent. Features guest artists Spank Rock and Mark Pritchard.

Artist: PHON.O
Title: Black Boulder
Label: 50 WEAPONS (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: 50 007CD
Phon.o, the boy with the dubby background, started to play records with his buddy Apparat in the early '90s, far in the darkest reaches of the ruff'n'tuff Harz mountains, in former East Germany. In 1997, seeking new and bright horizons, he moves to beautiful Berlin and is given the keys to his first apartment. During the wet autumn of 1998, he started to create his own music and emerged in the spring of 2000 with his first release on Cytrax (Kit Clayton and DJ Jasper's itchy, noisy, dubby California techno label). Phon.o then found himself "misled, used and abused" by the notorious big rock'n roll swindler, T.Raumschmiere, who connives him into joining his gang, Shitkatapult. Chris De Luca and Phon.o joined forces in spring 2006. This unconventional combination of intergalactic hip-hop, ghetto beats, sexy booty IDM and dirty techno goes beyond typical contemporary genre boundaries. In 2008, the results of CLP's dirty collaboration got released as the EP Ready Or Not on Boysnoize Rec., including remixes by Diplo and Mixhell and as an eclectic, genre-blending hip-hop album called Supercontinental on Shitkatapult. In 2009, Phon.o did remixes for the likes of Modeselektor, Boys Noize, Schlachthofbronx and Robot Koch. In 2011, Phon.o started to release on Modeselektor's 50 Weapons label with a new sound somewhere between the grooves of UK-Funky and dubstep and the classic Berlin dub-techno school of Basic Channel/Hardwax. For many, Phon.o has been producing some of his dopest material of late. His two singles in 2011 have been compared to the best moments of Burial and expectations for Black Boulder are high. The album delivers exactly what the two pre-singles Slavemode/Abbey Road and ABAW723/Sad Happiness hinted at. A fresh blend of bleepin' technoid garage, the usual dub elements and even two ear-catching vocal tunes featuring Pantasz of Bodi Bill fame and Tunde Olaniran. While the first four artist albums on 50 Weapons have all been debut albums, this one isn't. On the other hand it feels like one, since this is the successful reinvention of an artist who has been active in various styles for over a decade.
