Sketches EP
Label:

Format:
2x10"
Price:
$16.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 016EP
"Peddling his own twisted brand of clockwork garage the elusive & nocturnal Fantastic Mr Fox emerges once more from his lair with a four pack of leftfield dance floor heaters.
Sketches
: never before has so much damage been achieved with such subtle blows. The microscopic, surgically clipped snares hover deftly over the boom of Ice T's stolen kick drums and bowel churning bass murmurs. Without warning our duvet of womb-insulated bass is replaced by a fairground arpeggio to haunt the dreams of those over 30, cascades of funereal chord progressions further spook and motivate. With psychic timing drums return, bass envelopes and all is well. To soothe the acid tones and percussive kicking of its predecessor, BrickAbrac returns us to the dusty antiquated stop motion world of Mr Fox. Here he favours a skeleton's ribcage to rattle out a creaky and crackling 4x4 riddim, which is contrasted by the sexy Tetris plinky-plonk keys and radioactive neon bass warble. Haunted vocal snatches wrap their spectral gloves around soaring strings uplift."

Title:
Miss Maui
Label:
BLACK ACRE (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$9.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 017EP
"Von D is a man on a mission, a mission only a Parisian would dare undertake. When Jerome Meyer gets on the buttons, he's here to inject some sexy back into the testosterone prone dubstep scene. Given the now classic status of his 'Show Me' track and previous successes here on Black Acre, he seems to be succeeding. Miss Maui is a slinky sultry house inflected dubbed out roller. Alluring vocals supplied by beat poet Moxy Phinx, whose tales of a mystery woman ignite memories of Little Louis'
French Kiss
. On the flip, Von D enlists the vocal talents of Jamaican verbal flame-thrower, Warrior Queen. The militant soundwaves explored in this late night floor destroyer display a sound palette both varied and focused. Von-D once again solidifying his reputation as dubstep's new renaissance man. Support: Mary Anne Hobbs, DJ Chef, Skream, Hatcha, Nick Argon."

Title:
Raindrops EP
Label:
BLACK ACRE (UK)
Format:
2x12"
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 020EP
"Having built a platinum reputation as one of the most exciting beatmakers working today, the incomparable Blue Daisy returns with another burst of poly-genre sound adventure in the form of the
Raindrops
EP. With his debut album waiting in the wings in early 2011, this is the last chance to cherish our boy before his star turns supernova. For the
Raindrops
EP, Daisy has employed the considerable talents of Brighton siren Anneka and the pairing is a match made in heaven. On the titular track her ghostly vocals float in and of focus through the sparkling arpeggios, swirling crackle and tape hiss, all crushed by 10 tons of compressed sound pressure, while 'Blood Petal Roses' heads for a fog covered dancefloor -- 4/4 rhythms are submerged into Blue Daisy's sonic murk while Anneka adds wistful swathes of vox to an unlikely dancefloor number." Remixes by John Talabot and Sunken Foal.

Catalog #:
ACRE 021EP
"Polishing off what has been an uber-strong year for Black Acre we have the elusive Fantastic Mr Fox. Recent collaborations and US/UK Tour support with the XX have anticipation building for a fresh dose of FMF's own unique brand of Sweded Soul. Forsaking the more tear-inspiring melodrama of the
Sketches
EP, FMF's recent excursions in heavily-reduced house have lead him to create his own brand of broken RnB. The
Evelyn
EP is a kick driven, neon clad slice of lazer cannon soul. Big rhythm sections rollout anthemic clipped snatches of long dead chart bound voices. The soundtrack for a party to soothe a broken heart."

Bullseye
Label:
BLACK ACRE (UK)
Format:

Price:
$9.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 022EP
"Further fortifying Black Acre's global credentials we present a line up spanning the globe. From mother Russia we have beatminers, Dza & Mujuice, on the re-rub we present Australia's Dizz1 and on vocal duties we fly all the way to the West Coast of the US for Shadowhuntaz mic man, Non Genetic. 'Bullseye' is a modernist hip hop anthem. Imagine M.O.P. and WU's genetic codes broken down and filtered through a 2010 pixilated 8-bit sound palate. The track emerges in true Nintendub style, bit-crunched and glitched out but only to make way for a heads down drum track and bassline of Mitchell brother bruising combined potential. Non combines Westcoast mic intellect with Eastcoast gutterism producing THAT chorus hip hop's been yearning for, huge and hefty as Hip Hop should be. Aussie hotboy Dizz1 (Kindred Spirits/Beat Dimensions) lends his ample skills to the remix producing a nimble and machined take on the raw original."

ACRE 023EP
"While retaining their heavy afro-beat percussive influence, the Bulgarian bomb squad have switched up the rhythm, embarking on a 4x4 boogie expedition in the same nebula as fellow space travellers, Floating Points and Krystal Kleer. Ethereal and uplifting chords progress into full eclipse and bouncing vulcanised bass tones vibrate below. 'Kaleidoscope' is another deft boogie floor shaker with more technocrat angles, mechanised percussion rebounds off more rapid and immediate synthwork and catchy vocal chops keep even the most ADHD listener enthralled."

Format:

Price:
$9.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 024EP
"LTD picture sleeve 12" -- 500 then deleted! Snow Ghosts is a unique combination of exploratory musical minds. On landscaping we have man of the moment Throwing Snow, with high plaudits for his debut on Alex Nut's Ho-Tep label and an array of remix duties for the likes of Gold Panda this young beat surgeon has made giant leaps in a very short time. Painting in the characters is Augustus Ghost (Hannah) a former Abu Dhabi resident of English heritage, she now returns to the smoky grey skies and dank Victorian streets of England with a haunted soul to match. 'And The Moon' slinks into view in confident minimal style, paired down 808s and ethereal chords erupt as Hannah's siren call soars through the follicle animating atmospherics, with more than enough kick + snare wriggle for the floor."

Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 001EP
"With a full clip of underground bangers under his belt, Marlow lets the world know that the apprenticeship is well and truly over with his Blackacre debut. First up is the cerebral 'Convoy,' a brooding and malicious bass science experiment. Complex percussion penetrates Marlow's trademarked bass-weight as soaring strings add a distinctive soundtrack feel. On the flip comes the fearsome 'Scum,' explosive drums and time/space tearing synth work have made it a sureshot tool for dancefloor motivation. This slice of heaven & hell has lead to a variety of support from dubsteppers BunZero, DZ, MRK 1, Stinky Jim & Reso through to honorable nods from DJs Yoda & Die."

HYETAL
Title:
Broadcast
Label:
BLACK ACRE (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.50
Catalog #:
ACRE 002CD
This is the debut album from
Hyetal
aka
David Corney
. A key player in the new wave of underground dance music, Bristol-based Hyetal has grabbed the attention of many with a series of acclaimed off-kilter dancefloor releases on Punch Drunk, Planet Mu and Orca.
Broadcast
sees the producer recalibrate his sound for an exploration of the album format, shifting focus to shorter pieces and at times traditional song structure, effortlessly combining such diverse influences as
John Carpenter
,
Boards Of Canada
, early '90s computer games and
Prince
yet retaining the sound system dynamics of cutting-edge UK bass music. The album rejects the glistening clarity so easily obtained with digital technology and swells with analog noise, disembodied voices and a twisted sense of space. At certain points, the field recordings and atmosphere nearly take the forefront, as if the music was already synched to a film, the audio track from a lost '80s neo-noir. "Diamond Islands" sets the tone perfectly -- ominous synths, crackle and bass stabs underpin the breathy vocals of
Alison Garner
, punctuated by caustic kicks and snares. "The Chase" highlights a different side -- opening with tape hiss and a low drone, it quickly expands into a dark soundscape of menacing arpeggios and haunting strings, calling to mind the atmospheric work of the aforementioned John Carpenter at his best. We mustn't forget "Phoenix," however; Hyetal's calling card from 2010 that set the heart of journalists, bloggers and the audience alight with its widescreen soaring melodies and infectious bass line -- truly an example of 21st century machine soul. Hyetal represents a new wave of post-
Blake
dark/light musicians sitting comfortably in a world populated by both
Oneohtrix Point Never
,
Games
and
Salem
.
Broadcast
is a truly seismic achievement and is sure to cement Hyetal's status as one of the most exciting new producers of recent times -- able to both ignite dancefloors and excite armchair enthusiasts.

ACRE 003CD
Debut album from hotly-tipped London beat maker
Blue Daisy
. His acclaimed EPs have earned him comparisons to the likes of
Massive Attack
,
Burial
and
Flying Lotus
. Ever since his instant classic debut single,
Space Ex
exploded onto an unsuspecting world through a series of highly-regarded EPs, Blue Daisy has delivered on the promise that caused Radio 1's
Mary Anne Hobbes
to proclaim his talents far and wide. Black Acre, the label that has nurtured his meteoric assent, is sure to announce his graduation from underground pretender to fully-fledged maestro -- making some of the most weighty, emotive, atmospheric music of recent times. From the rumbling low-end and portentous strings of opener "Distance" swathed in reverb and dub delay, it's clear that no concessions to trend or whimsy are being made -- this is music that heads straight for the jugular -- a mosaic of bleeps, beats, bass, sample shards and heart-rending melodies paired with elegiac vocals. From the heavy sci-fi stomp of "Raindance" to the heavy, low-slung urban angst of "Psyche Inquiry," featuring the vocals of
Hey!Zues
, to the dream-like bliss of slo-mo house stomp "Spinning Channels" (one of several collaborations with vocalist
Anneka
) or the rumbling, percussive head-nodder "Shadow Assassins," Daisy displays his unique talent for peppering his grimy textured synths and scuzzed drum tracks with moments of melodic levity and beauty -- like
RZA
and
Angelo Badalamenti
collaborating on the soundtrack to a lost
David Lynch
widescreen epic. "Fallin'" includes a guest appearance from
Cinematic Orchestra
's
Heidi Vogel
. This is an album that demands repeated listens to soak up all the rich details and nuance that go into making it such a genuinely special release.

LANDSLIDE
Title:
Dreams & Visions
Label:
BLACK ACRE (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 005EP
"In the words of the inimitable Bunzer, 'dubstep is dubstep' and here to labor the point. Black Acre proudly presents the return of soulstep pioneer and original FWD resident, Landslide.
Dreams & Visions
is a step into the uncharted territory of dubstep-soul, reinforcing that innovation is a trademark within Landslide's vast discography. Kicking off with a heavily layered hypnotic arpeggio, the honeyed soul of J'nay draws the listener to a domain of subtle angelic sounds. Lush pads soak an unpredictable half-step groove that still explores pathways back to dubstep garage roots. Summer vibes guaranteed. 'Dreams & Visions (Compound One RMX)' - Using an altogether tougher sound palate, DnB/Garage tag-team, Compound One ricochet Dreams' soulful tones off a metallic low end sound bed. A more stripped overall sound allows an increasingly intricate drum track to swing gracefully under the bassweight. 'Dreams & Visions (Inst)' - Yes, we've even thrown in the instro. After repeated requests from the dub lovers, you can also let Landslide's lush musicianship breathe fully unaided through your speakers. Support: Gilles Peterson, Domu, Zed Bias, 2562, TRG, Geiom, Martyn, Joe Nice, Hatcha, DJ Thinking, Unabombers."

Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 006EP
"Following the non-stop wobbletronic bombardment of 'dancefloor bangers,' Canada's hot export ups his game with this no-nonsense slice of dancehall murder balladry. On the A-side is the long-awaited underground anthem 'Old Timers.' The equation is simple, grinding bass and thunderous drums with cinematic samples to the power of cocked weapons = Reeewwwiiinnddd! On the B-side, DZ displays the kind of dynamic production skills that have got names like Herve & Diplo checking their AIM accounts. 'Ear Drumz' is a 4X4 tribal slice of drum funk best described as the incredible bongo band in a fist fight with Jah Shaka at Studio 51! The sheer width of styles covered by this release has garnered support from, Plastician, Diplo, Nick Argon, Herve, Sinden, N-type, Rustie & DJ Yoda."

Catalog #:
ACRE 007EP
"With strong DJ support from Caspa, N-Type, Adam Freeland, Howie B and The Others, the Southcoast's finest steps up to the plate with a stonkingly epic 2 tracks of skull crushing bass-work. 'Colossus': has seen Marlow described as the SunnO))) of dubstep, strange & esoteric sounds twist and contort amid an avalanche of deformed low-end anomalies. Here drums are robust as ever providing a solid vertebrae for Marlow's unofficial Godzilla stomps Tokyo soundtrack. 'Stompa (Remix)': on the flip, Marlow rejacks DZ's techno neck-snapper into a breakstep anthem. For 100% human to dancefloor tractor beam, for best results play unhealthily loud in a dark place."

Title:
Echolow/Truth
Label:
BLACK ACRE (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 009EP
"Exposed from birth to the multi-cultural ethos of the Paris suburbs, a young Von D found his soul's conduit in a beat up drum kit. While the riddims of King Tubby fused and morphed into the foetal jungle of Photek, Serge Gainsborg issued instructions from the radio. A fusion chef of bassweight Von D deftly slices into unpredictable genres, concocting strange and beautiful new forms. Echolow takes a proto-junglist break heavy sound palate back into early '90s acid house clubland. With £15 pill in hand we are dragged to floor by the galloping percussion and expansive subs as Von D snatches at soul samples and contorts them into metallic computer sirens. 'Truth' is a late night journey through neon reflecting wet streets of Paris. Haunting chords are aided in setting the nocturnal scene by sparkling pianos, while sinister intent is provided by the cloak of subs. Just when you belted up and ready to cruise a bruising 4x4 kick and angular square bass stomp on the accelerator propelling you into the night. In essence 'Truth' is about balance, an uneasy truce between opposites creating a breathtaking new sound. Support : Mary Anne Hobbs, Headhunter, Joe Nice, N Type, Chef, Nick Argon, Tes La Rok, Zed Bias, DJ Thinking."

Title:
Dark Matter/HP Sauce
Label:
BLACK ACRE (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 010EP
"Following the all-area smasher 'Pinball' and super classy 'EchoLow,' Black Acre, orphanage for sonic outsiders, welcomes a true pioneer in the form of legendary DJ N-Type. 'Dark Matter' is a departure from the DNA scrambling rippers we've come to expect without sacrificing any of N-Type's trademarked impact. Here he gets all Edgar Alan Poe on the beat as etheric winds slice into the sub and our nocturnal narrator depicts ghostly happenings. The heavyweight bruiser kick/snare tag team anchor the impossibly subtle midrange growl as bongolian tribalist procussion keeps the riddim rolling. Sprinkle some arpeggiated synthetic angel dust over the mix and you've got an original take on a well-practiced classic form. On the flip, we unearth the long requested, often speculated-over 'HP Sauce.' This long awaited lost dub reeks of the sheer rudeness that kicked off modern dub music, lazer bass rips deep wounds into the rugged halfstep riddim and ultra low-end dabbling squeezes oxygen outta the dance. Support from: Hatcha, Caspa, Walsh & Mary Anne Hobbs."

Coquine/Truth (Tes La Rok Remix)
Label:
BLACK ACRE (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 011EP
"Paris' premier producer of 'sexy' dubstep returns with the acid heavy, Chicago influenced
Coquine
. Stomping kick drums tumble under a barrage of squeltchy stabs and dusty snares with a big nod back to warehouse raves of old. Once the crowd has erupted into euphoric overdrive the track drops in the radio crackled Spanish dialogue of a lady who could well be a long lost flame of the Parisian love merchant. The peace is abruptly ended with textured reverse synthwork and an overall more hip hop aesthetic. Pon de flip Helsinki badman and dubstep pioneer Tes La Rok steps up on remix duties. Here he takes 'Truth' deep, abyss deep. Hypnotic 8bit frequencies float over a submariners wet dream of a subscape. Proper rib cracking dub business. Support: Laurent Garnier, Skream, Scuba, Baobinga, DJ Chef, Nick Argon, Clouds."

Label:

Format:

Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 012EP
"Clocking in here for the first time since their warmly received debut on Hemlock, Rich Reason & Fantastic Mr Fox jerk the Black Acre steering wheel sharply left into a murky new trajectory. Fall, an ode to the autumnal onset features the lush sound textures that have become the Manc super team's calling card. Kicking off as a horn blasting bass-lead 130 skanker, 'Fall' proceeds to hoodwink the listener with haunted soul and anomalous artifacts buried deep in the sampledelic mist. A thin line is deftly navigated in combining the muscular low-end with an enriching sound palate, stimulating both body and synapse. 'Lo-Fi-Ve,' walks a longer more arduous path, masquerading initially as a sinuous dose of future garage, the clipped snares and 808 boom will have you on your feet quicker than the ice cream truck. Ever the curve ball pitchers, a Hitchcockian twist abruptly takes us into the obscure. Distant horns and warping bass are bathed in the UV glare of bubbling operatic synth-work climaxing in a cascade of citric sound. Support: Jamie Vex'd, Bobby Friction, TRG, Untold, Geiom, DJ Yoda, Pangaea, Kid Kameleon Reviews: DJ, Mixmag, Wire, IDJ."

Format:

Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
ACRE 013EP
"This release is strictly limited to 500 blue vinyl 10". Appearing from what seems like the ether, Camden's freshest production talent Blue Daisy has taken the electronic scene by storm. By deftly navigating narrow path between dubstep, hip hop & house, Blue Daisy has created a unique dusty and bugged out take on electronica. 'Space Ex,' by combining talents with France's LaNote, Blue sets out his stall with treats to go! Warm yet crunchy beats stagger along under a bombardment of broken sonics and angelic vocals. 'The Fall' employs a more 4X4 structure with crisp snares, punchy kicks and tide of crackle washing over the haunted melody. With a mix on Mary Anne Hobbs already under his belt and support from the likes of Mala, Rob Da Bank, The Bug, Untold & Ramadanman expect Blue Daisy to be a name chiseled into the collective conscience this year."

Catalog #:
ACRE 014EP
On red-colored vinyl. "Edinburgh's prodigal son returns to the boards for another alchemic fusion of glitchy boom bap and tear out noise terror. 'Boom N Pow,' explodes out of the starting blocks with Akira's super fresh sound aesthetic. Solid battle hardened hip hop drums sway and tumble under the pressure of aquatic bass and citric stabs. Just as the b-boys heads are bopping, the beats shrink, normal gravity is restored and the barely audible rants of Akira's imaginary Japanese self begins the wind up to the point where Akira Kiteshi justifies his new title as master of the 2nd drop. 'Boom N Pow (Raffertie Remix)' -- in an attempt to win most cutting edge banger of 09 we have employed the services of Planet Mu's hot boy Raffertie on the re-up. Here the Brum hardcore enthusiast bring bitch slap snares, degraded synths and his own unique brand drunken noise chaos. Keeping up the neck snapping pace Raff flips the script on the 2nd drop into the kind of chaos best described as Aphex Twin on a Ragga Tip. It's big and it IS clever.... Support: Mix Master Mike, Bobby Friction, Rob Da Bank, N Type, Reso, Raffertie, Joker, Starkey, MF GLK."
