Artist: TEENAGE JESUS & THE JERKS
Title: Shut Up And Bleed
Label: CHERRY RED PHONOGRAPH (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: CRP 101LP
"Formed by underground music gurus Lydia Lunch and James Chance in 1976, Teenage Jesus flourished in an underground scene that eschewed the commercialization, triteness and idiocy of punk, dominated (particularly in the USA) by bands that, despite being decidedly marginalized, in some ways just wanted to have fun and get wasted on a Saturday night. Teenage Jesus and the Jerks were not about having fun. It was about nihilism and confrontation, about ripping mainstream society to shreds and dancing on its grave. The music, if you will, was more of a means to an end, almost a metaphor for how at odds the members felt with mainstream society, and it was this forceful message preached by this new prophet (the 'Teenage Jesus') that has spoken to the past three decades of disillusioned youth. These twenty-one tracks taken from their brief time together (1977-1979) represent the bulk of their recorded material, including the band's earliest material (recorded in Soho in NYC 1977, when James Chance was still in the band), their first single (Orphans/Less Of Me, 1978), their second single (Baby Doll/Freud In Flop/Race Mixing), songs from the Pink EP, produced by Robert Quine of the Voidoids, songs that appeared on the legendary 1978 No New York compilation, etc."

Artist: TIMES, THE
Title: Pop Goes Art!
Label: CHERRY RED PHONOGRAPH (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: CRP 102LP
"Side project of Television Personalities guitar player Ed Ball and singer Dan Treacy, only here Ball does vocals and Treacy plays guitar. The Times was Ball's own brilliant mod homage to the whole Carnaby Street scene. Pop Goes Art! was also the first release on Treacy and Ball's Whaam! label, and featured the hilarious Ray Davies-influenced 'I Helped Patrick McGoohan Escape' (Patrick McGoohan, of course, being the doomed star of the T.V. series The Prisoner), 'Miss London' and other forgotten classics."

Artist: TEENAGE FILMSTARS
Title: Star
Label: CHERRY RED PHONOGRAPH (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: CRP 103LP
"Released in 1992 on Creation Records (home to My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, the Jesus and Mary Chain, and famously Oasis), this is the brainchild of Ed Ball (Television Personalities, Boo Radleys, the Times, etc.). Released almost contemporaneous to My Bloody Valentine's Loveless, Star was similar in feel and effect, but with an even more disturbed ferris wheel of sounds. Celebrated by the music press at the time as a triumph, it picked up where Loveless left off, taking it out into some deranged galaxy where linear time and space cease to exist."

Artist: SUN DIAL
Title: Other Way Out
Label: CHERRY RED PHONOGRAPH (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: CRP 106LP
"When Gary Ramon's neo-psychedelic Sun Dial debuted in 1990 with Other Way Out, it was almost unanimously lauded by fans and press. Taking the late-sixties psychedelic approach of bands like Led Zeppelin, Hendrix and the Beatles, the LP sounded like one of the great lost albums from that era. The instrumentation was also a throwback to the period with crisp electric guitar backed by Turkish talking drums, bamboo flute, and Tibetan bells. Now, twenty years after the album's release, it is still cited as a neo-psych classic."

Artist: SOFT MACHINE
Title: Bundles
Label: CHERRY RED PHONOGRAPH (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: CRP 107LP
"Originally released in 1975, Bundles marked a turning point for the band, not marked by the fact that this album was the first to have an actual title, instead of just a number. This would also be the last album to feature the brilliant keyboard playing of Mike Ratledge, the last surviving member of the original 1963 Wyatt-Allen-Ayers line-up, but whose playing here takes a backburner to the prominent role played by brand new guitarist (and another ex-Nucleus member) Allan Holdsworth. Holdsworth's hardworking guitar style breathes new life into the band after the relatively weary sounding Seven. Although, much of what came after Fourth has been dismissed as past-prime by many Softs fans, Bundles is that one bright star on the post-Wyatt horizon, and along with absolutely brilliant musicianship all around, this is some of the best fusion jazz to be found from that or any other period."

Artist: PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI
Title: Photos Of Ghosts
Label: CHERRY RED PHONOGRAPH (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: CRP 109LP
"The Italian progressive rock band, Premiata Forneria Marconi, was the first (and one of the only) Italian rock bands to have success abroad, touring extensively in both the U.K. and U.S.A. and receiving considerable airplay on American and British rock radio stations. They were also innovators in that they were one of the first Italian bands to use the synthesizer and bring classical/Italian folk music into the rock music arena. In the early seventies, PFM came to the attention of Peter Sinfield (King Crimson, Roxy Music), who helped them get a record deal with ELP's Manticore. Manticore soon released their third album, the 1973 prog-rock classic Photos Of Ghosts, which was actually a reworking of their earlier Italian release Per Un Amico. Sinfield was so enthusiastic about the group that in addition to helping to produce and mix the album at Advision Studios in London, he also helped pen the album's English lyrics." Gatefold sleeve.

Artist: SAMURAI
Title: Samurai
Label: CHERRY RED PHONOGRAPH (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: CRP 110LP
"Samurai is truly a lost classic of the progressive era. Released on the short lived Greenwich Gramophone label in 1972, the album was influenced by the experiments of groups such as King Crimson, Gentle Giant et al, but was more than a mere clone of these bands. Evolving from the equally excellent band Web (whose album I Spider is a classic of the genre), the musicianship on the album was excellent and keyboard player Dave Lawson's compositions were groundbreaking and memorable. Sadly the group disbanded shortly after the release of the record resulting in limited sales. However, the influence of the album was not lost as both Dave Lawson and Tony Reeves soon joined Dave Greenslade to form the group Greenslade, effectively taking up the musical mantle laid down by Samurai."

Artist: SOFT MACHINE
Title: Softs
Label: CHERRY RED PHONOGRAPH (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: CRP 111LP
"Cherry Red Phonograph is proud to present a fully re-mastered edition of the classic 1976 album Softs, by one of the most influential exponents of the British underground, Soft Machine. This album was the band's second for the Harvest label (Pink Floyd and later Wire) and featured a new line-up of Karl Jenkins (piano, synthesizers), John Marshall (drums), Roy Babbington (bass), John Etheridge (guitar), and Alan Wakeman (sax). Seven of the album's eleven tracks were composed by Jenkins, who had taken over keyboard duties from Mike Ratledge (who makes his last appearance here on 'Song Of Aeolus' and 'Ban-Ban Caliban'), so the band at this stage was largely a vehicle for Jenkins' own vision. Also, taking Alan Holdsworth's place on guitar is John Etheridge, whose jaw-dropping speed and prowess made it quite obvious that he was no second fiddle. This is an album of exquisitely executed instrumental jazz fusion that has unfortunately often been overlooked over the years (leaving it un-issued on vinyl for over two decades)! Re-mastered from the original tapes and featuring the original artwork."

Artist: MODULO 1000
Title: Nao Fale Com Paredes
Label: CHERRY RED PHONOGRAPH (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: CRP 112LP
"Formed in Rio in 1969, Modulo 1000 was a short-lived Brazilian progressive rock band which took its cues from British psych/prog and American hard rock to create something entirely new on the Brazilian music scene, much like the Sao Paolo based Os Mutantes who were also playing around the same music scene at this time. Their one and only album, 1971's Nao Fale Com Paredes, featured nine tracks of heavy guitar and swirling keyboards amidst a barrage of protest lyrics, which may have made the band unpopular with Brazil's military dictatorship, but extremely popular with fans. Like Os Mutantes, Modulo 1000's one and only album remained a closely guarded secret until it was thankfully unearthed and re-released in the 1990s to much acclaim among fans of Brazilian music in Europe and the USA."

Artist: DEUTER
Title: Aum
Label: CHERRY RED PHONOGRAPH (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: CRP 113LP
"A mix of eastern and western styles, acoustic and electric instruments and musique concrete, the German-born Georg Deuter has been sharing his unique style with the world since an early brush with death prompted him to pursue a music career in 1970. Over the years Deuter, who now lives in Santa Fe, has followed his own spiritual path around the globe, releasing dozens of albums in the New Age genre, his most recent being 2010's Mystery Of Light. 1972's Aum, originally released on the German Kuckuck label, however, was more of a krautrock affair, combining the sound of the ocean with sitar, flute, guitar and drums to create a meditative mantra-like groove." On 180 gram vinyl.

Artist: DEVIANTS, THE
Title: Ptooff!
Label: CHERRY RED PHONOGRAPH (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: CRP 115LP
"Classic LP by Ladbroke Grove counterculture proto-Punks the Deviants. Founded by legendary counter-culture figure Mick Farren and Russell Hunter and inspired by The Fugs, the Deviants were first of the anarchic groups to emerge from the Ladbroke Grove area of London. Two years before Hawkwind burst on to the underground scene, the Deviants were preaching revolution and creating their own form of musical anarchy. Ptooff! was the band's classic debut album, originally released in 1967 and only available by mail order from the pages of International Times. Resplendent in a lavish fold out sleeve and with liner note by John Peel, the record caused a sensation, one of the first truly independent British rock albums to be released. This edition restores the original foldout poster artwork and has been re-mastered from the original master tapes."

Artist: RUNAWAYS, THE
Title: And Now...The Runaways
Label: CHERRY RED PHONOGRAPH (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: CRP 116LP
"Although they never broke through to mass success, the all girl Runaways did make a major mark on the rock field and in doing so laid the foundations for other all girl groups like the Go Go's, Girlschool and the Bangles to build on as they knocked down the doors of prejudice of the then traditionally male dominated rock world.1978's And Now...The Runaways was the band's fourth album in just two years and their first not to be produced by svengali Kim Fowley. Joan Jett and Lita Ford (now both the ripe old age of 20!) would soon part ways to pursue solo careers, and both would go on to become huge stars in the following decade."
