Malmö, Sweden's
Minilogue
(
Sebastian Mullaert
and
Marcus Henriksson
) present the animated movie version of their highly-acclaimed debut full-length album,
Animals
. When the pair founded Minilogue in 2000, it was thought of not only as a musical project, but also as a visual one. From the beginning, the two musicians thought animals to be the front for Minilogue: animals which do not actually exist, but imaginary animals. As they appear on Minilogue's record sleeves, they merge elements and parts of all different animals together: there is a donkey with a trunk of an elephant or a mouse with the horns of a deer. With
Animals -- The Movie
, Minilogue's visual world comes fully into existence to the soundtrack of elegant and inventive minimal-techno -- with tracks from both the "dance" and "ambient" selections on the album release, plus three exclusive tracks -- 1 featuring
Tobias
. The 80-minute-long DVD was created by
Hinge Design
from New Zealand and a couple of other visuals artists. Two segments by
Kristofer Ström
were released as a preview; "Hitchhiker's Choice" had more than three million views on YouTube. The rhythm of the whole movie is defined by its quiet camera motions. With its countless images and movements, the films put us in a detached position, and we watch the world around us like scientists, experiencing a remote beauty to its full extent.
Animals -- The Movie
manages to combine the repetitive collages of club visuals with the subtleties of video art. Strange, boldly-colored animal amalgamations bounce around a Swedish cityscape, others appear on a blank page, being drawn and distorted by their creator. This is quite possibly one of the most ambitious visualizations of today's electronic music. It will appear in your living room, on your TV, as well as in your favorite club. Mesmerizing and charming animation that perfectly suits its sonic environment. NTSC format for North America, region-free DVD.

"The Greek word téchnè simply means a way to know things. Jacek Sienkiewicz knows techno. Born in Warsaw, Poland, Jacek has been busy focusing and developing his own style through his Recognition label. His tracks stand out as both a powerful dancefloor tool and as carefully crafted compositions.
Téchnè
is the second album by Jacek Sienkiewicz and is the first artist album to be released on Sven Vath's Cocoon Recordings. This is techno for the future."

"Dutch producer Danny Wolfers aka Legowelt had released his track 'Disco Route' on 12" vinyl on the American label Ghostly International, and probably, the limited record would have fallen into oblivion --i f Sven Väth had not heard the track and put it on top of his charts. 'Disco Route' has been THE floorburner at this years' Cocoon Club in Ibiza's finest club Amnesia and a summer hit as such. Cocoon Recordings licensed the track and is to release a 12" vinyl EP containing the Original on the A-Side and a stunning remix by Kanzleramt Member and Cocoon Booking Artist Johannes Heil."

"Straight out of Duesseldorf comes fresh food from one of Germany's most distinguished DJs and producers: Oliver Bondzio's very first Artist Album in his own name is released by Cocoon Recordings. This very fine piece of Techno bears the title
Straight Outta D'Town
and assembles varied tracks which come along with great love for the detail and a good deal of steam. Bondzio puts straight techno alongside dark Electro-Sounds like 'The Devil Made Me Do It' and thus proves musical variety. The distorted voice in the background of the track is the confession of a serial killer."

"Technology that powers the world is supposed to be stable and not to fail. But every machine is programmed or operated by a human, whose single mistake can lead into crash. Furthermore, beware of the accidents that happen, which may cause serious damage to a power computer, will it be either a software problem or brutal physical damage. And, in fact, the more complex the technology becomes, the threat of unexpected damage rises. However, broken machines could work, and here is the example:
Displaced
is the second album for Cocoon by Jacek Sienkiewicz, Warsaw-based 27-year old producer and fierce live performer, also running his own label Recognition. This is an exceptional record: made by Jacek after moving from his native Warsaw to more quiet and conservative Cracow, using, among others, a badly crashed laptop computer, virtually high on emotion. One can find all his trademark elements here -- madly driving techno beats, overwhelming melodies and weird vocal snippets, but the result is more dancefloor-friendly as well as more experimental at a time, a rare achievement in today's formalised world of club music. The music formerly known as Techno is not dead, as many say... It's just somewhere else. And that's where it is."

"'Transistor' is industrial sounding sawtooth Techno with a shrill lead sequence and a varied arrangement; the built-in Short Breaks are speeding up the track with a wavering bass line. 'Little Eternity' on the other hand is fluffy electronic Techno. With its straight bass drum, a melodic bass and a playful bell-like piano part, the harmonic track with nice hooks and epic sounds is moving towards Electro."

Catalog #:
COR 009CD
"The fourth release in the Cocoon Compilation series assembles some of the finest Techno music. All tracks are made exclusively for Cocoon Recordings and over the past three years, more and more Techno musicians from all over the world became aware of and are fascinated by this concept of expressing the artist's relation to a label. Adam Beyer for instance, one of the most influential producers within the scene, called his track 'Rockoon' and thus showed both his commitment to the idea behind Cocoon Rec. as well as his conviction that the label's music is not boring at all. Sven Väth teamed up with long-time companion Anthony Rother and delivers a positively disturbing track which not only features Rother's well-manufactured soundscapes but also the unmistakable voice of Sven. The focus of the compilation was once more set on young fresh artists who stand out the mass of producers in our days. And people like ADA, Denis Rusnak, Bangkok Impact or Destillat for example, have definitely ideas that may help to take Electronic Music another step forward." Features: Dinky, Jake Fairley, Roman Flugel, David Carretta, Vath vs. Rother, ADA, Role Model, Adam Beyer & Henrik B, Tony Rohr, Denis Rusnka, Destillat, Bangkok Impact.

"After more than three years, it has finally come true -- Anthony Rother left his first and, so far, last footprints at Sven Vath's label Cocoon Recordings with the opening track for Cocoon's first Label Compilation
A
in 2000,
552000
under the alias 'Little Computer People'. Now, he presents a 12" record with the telling name
Bodytalk
, which was exclusively produced for Cocoon Recordings. With 'Come With Me', Mr. Rother invites us politely to follow him and gives one more definition of Elektro in 2003 at the same time. The futuristic sounding track melts the harmonies and beats with Rother-like vocals and sound specials, giving the music a light percussive touch, especially at the end. The flipside brings 'Bodytalk' to your ears and shows a somehow different facet of the artist Anthony Rother -- 'gimme that damn Guitar'. With 'Bodytalk' and 'Come With Me', Anthony Rother has made two tracks which will cause some confusion in the Techno Community for sure."

Cocoon Compilation F
Label:
COCOON (GERMANY)
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.50
Catalog #:
COR 011CD
Cocoon Compilation F
is without doubt the hottest collection of exclusive tracks from the hippest producers, newcomers, etc. Here, minimal meets tech-house, with the result that both the club-orientated tech-heads as well as the electronic music fan in his living room are happy.
Pier Bucci
starts things off with minimal beats and bubbling bass lines, fathoming frequencies below 50 Hz, forming an ideal transition to the slightly shuffled minimal pusher by
Guido Schneider
.
Adam Proll
switches gears with some rocking material, before Cocoon all-star
Johannes Heil
draws the bow from deep elegant techno to raspy acid sounds.
2000 and One
bows before the kicking house sound of
Kevin Saunderson
while
Gregor Tresher
presents with what is sure to be a big hit this summer: acid meets trance meets electro.
Andreas Kauffelt
moves to kicking old school and pumping 909 beats right before
Mathew Jonson
, who dabbles in minimal and house at the same time.
Guy Gerber
meshes his very unique house tempo with eclectic sounds, while
Serafin
delivers a first class minimal acid burner. Finally,
David K
provides the right amount of craziness for the package with hardcore beats, and
Alex Smoke
tops it off with his downbeat-like contribution which is moody but still kicking and crazy at the same time -- definitely the right track to touch ground again after a journey through this thoroughly comprehensive journey into Cocoon.

Title:
Late Bloomers
Label:
COCOON (GERMANY)
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.50
Catalog #:
COR 012CD
This is the full-length CD debut by Isreal-born
Guy Gerber
. With the first tracks on
Late Bloomers
, Gerber already makes clear what this is all about. Not only does he mix house, techno and trance like nobody else -- he also produces with accordion sounds and basslines reminiscent of
Queen
's "Another One Bites The Dust" ("Unfulfilled") without any concern, also showing multiple influences from
Carl Craig
via
Giorgio Moroder
to
Jean Michel Jarre
. The first real climax of the CD is reached on track 5 with Gerber's last 12" smash for Cocoon "Belly Dancing," immediately followed by last year's hit "Sea Of Sand," a track which was not missing from the set of any techno or house DJ in 2006. With "Persona Non Grata," he proves that he keeps his cool. "Moody Samba" offers a total contrast, proving Mr. Gerber's versatility without ever appearing random, sounding like a remix of
Aphex Twin
's "Analogue Bubblebath." "2 Birds 1 Stoned" is weird and energetic, with basslines that remind of the high times of giant open air raves in Northern England in the beginning of the '90s. After the first part of the CD with its well-known and expected hits, Gerber skillfully brings the listener down again with "Planetarium" and "Last Frequency." The latter track with its arpeggiated lines harkens the
Blade Runner
soundtrack, only with a shuffled beat underneath. In case you meet someone next week who completely missed the last 15 years of club history, just give him this CD and within a few moments, he will get a comprehensive impression of what has musically happened on the best four-to-the-floors around the world. We bow in awe.

Transphormer
is a re-orientation within the Techno map and is thus setting new standards. Dominik Eulberg is one of the most promising young artists this year. With 'Die Rotbauchunken vom Tegernsee', he just released a summer smash hit on Traum Schallplatten, and is now preparing to convince the rest of the community. With his remix of 'Geht's noch?', he is on the best way."

Cocoon Compilation G
Label:
COCOON (GERMANY)
Format:

Price:
$15.50
Catalog #:
COR 013CD
One of the most successful compilation serieses in Germany ascends the alphabet to the letter "G." This is the best of the Cocoon label, and the names on this release are a veritable "who's who" of the techno universe. Contemporary music in the year 2007 refuses to be pigeonholed to only one style -- more and more, it is simply a matter of whether the music is good, genres and categories be damned. After a slamming contribution from the lauded
My My
comes
Cobblestone Jazz
-- with a deep tech house track that appeals a bit to trance and dub.
Chaim
's track "Genesis" sounds trippy with Oriental harmonies and Detroit-like basslines, weird beats and hi-hats that should rock every rave. "Treibsand" by
Stephan Bodzin
breathes Frankfurt techno air and sounds like
Johannes Heil
and
Anthony Rother
without copying them.
Tiefschwarz
represents the "peak time" part of the CD.
Marcel Dettmann
presents us the first real techno track, "Sepia" which is a classic old school techno pusher with minimal but fat beats, a lot of reverb and echo.
Aki Latvamäki
's contribution features rolling beats, staccato synths and driving hi-hats, creating a true techno monster that may catch the ears of fans of
Mathew Jonson
. Next,
Audion
cools down the temperature with "Fire,"
Phil Kieran
stomps around with "I Think I'm A Monster," and newcomer
Jamie Jones
gives us "Harijuku" -- a very elegant tech house tool with a deep and driving basslines, fat house-y beats and soulful strings, making a nice transition to
Onur Özer
's piece which sounds a bit like a mixture between some old
Mike Ink
Studio1 records and current
Pier Bucci
productions. Magnificent!
Deetron
finalizes
Compilation G
and arouses us, unpacking a solid bassline and mean synth sounds, slightly moving towards electro, but never becoming too hectic. Leaving a lot of space for a long intro, he creates an absolute highlight of the CD. A hefty mix for hefty parties, indeed.

This is the debut full-length release by
Pig&Dan
. In 1999, the
Igor Tchkotoua
and
Dan Duncan
met by chance on a flight to Spain and the rest is history. Soon after that, records and productions were exchanged and slowly, the two determined to rough up the underground techno scene. Their first joint productions immediately made it into the record cases of well-known DJs and were featured on many mix compilations. After more than twenty productions for their own Submission label, they started a new label, Sonic Society, moving more towards minimal productions. Last year, their 12"s
On To The Beat
and
After Ibiza
on Cocoon Recordings caused a sensation wherever the records were played. From that point on, it was only a question of time until the duo would do a longplayer on Cocoon Recordings. Pig&Dan's electronic house sound is a perfect image of what is happening on the planet's dancefloors. Trippy and driving electronic beats are combined with filigree basslines, giant spherical spaces and weird sounds in long sophisticated arrangements: modern minimal house with a good share of techno. Pig&Dan are masters of their trade, and with their productions, sound and style, harken the perfection of artists like
Guido Schneider
and
Anders Trentemøller
. Despite the stringent concept of electro house, their productions are applicable in a highly flexible way, sometimes reminding of the high times of
Vladislav Delay
's
Luomo
productions. Pig&Dan reduce themselves on
Imagine
to the essentials of current techno productions and work more clearly on the elements that a modern dance track should have. This is the sound of the Cocoon floors in Ibiza, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Rome, transported directly to our iPods, stereos and cars. Pig&Dan's impressive debut proves that they are not only fantastic DJs and remixers, but can also create first-class productions.

This is the third full-length release from Bonn-based DJ, producer and park ranger,
Dominik Eulberg
, following his highly-acclaimed ode to field-recording,
Heimische Gefilde
. Like no one else, Eulberg combines sound and art research with solid and straight productions, attracting fans from all fields such as techno, house and even trance. The young man from the Westerwald alternates between straight-in-your-face humor and profundity, however, his secret seems to be rooted in tradition while still taking risks. Big tunes like "Bionik" or his remixes of "Geht's Noch?" and "Der Mückenschwarm" are harkened to on this release, as well as clacking electro tracks and sound research experiments. Eulberg's productions emerge from various approaches, never sounding heavy or over-produced, but also not sounding like another overly-simplistic minimal statement.
Bionik
is immediate and danceable -- real home-grown, friendly stuff. Similar to his DJ sets, he takes us on a journey into his world, his studio, his microcosm, and one understands why he opens up his home to us, and invites us to sit down and stay while.

Animals
, their debut full-length release for
Sven Väth
's Cocoon. Nowadays, electronic producers tend to retreat into their special stylistic niche -- Minilogue dare to draw the bigger picture. After releasing outstanding productions on such renowned labels as Traum, Crosstown Rebels and Wagon Repair, this opus magnum covers a wide spectrum of music, reaching from peak-time techno to beatless deep ambient. The full range of Minilogue's vision of electronic music is developed on a double CD -- one devoted to dance music, the other devoted to ambient, while the vinyl version naturally focuses on the dance tracks. The immediacy of the club tracks incorporate the elegance and simplicity of classic early '90s techno, the economy and lightness of the minimal sound and the sweetness and charm of their recent developments. This is a journey to be listened to from beginning to end, mixed in a seamless flow. As
Son Kite
and
Trimatic
, Mullaert and Henriksson became very successful in the trance scene, playing enthusiastically-received live sets all over the world. With Minilogue, they leave the boundaries of that genre -- and actually of any genre. The result couldn't be more striking: the dance tracks are powerful and humble, the ambient tracks are subtle and bold. While other producers tend to get lost in layers of sounds and reverb,
Animals
is spring-loaded and nimble. Tracks so humble, effective and elegant, they stream unremittingly into the listener's ears. The music stretches out towards the horizon in a gesture of unmitigated desire: a desire for wideness, a desire for sound, a desire for the elementary beauty of techno. 2nd pressing, digipak packaging.

One of the most successful compilation series in Germany alphabetically ascends to the letter "H." Alongside
Sven Väth
's
Sound of the Season
series, the letter compilations are Cocoon Recording's most anticipated product, expressing Väth's view on the current state of club music. Connecting Cocoon's activities to the diverse club music scenes from all over the globe, the 12 tracks work as a multifaceted manifesto, providing a veritable "who's who" of the techno universe. Released on CD and in a limited box of 6 colored vinyls, each track unfolds on a side of its own. Featured artists include esteemed musicians and upcoming artists such as
Joris Voorn
,
Oliver Ho
and
Len Faki
, appearing alongside
Simon Baker
,
Mark August
and
Matt Star
.
Cassy Britton
's "A Plea For Me" is as charming and sweet as a techno track can be, developing a rich and suggestive mood with a few short, looped elements. In turn, the vocals on Joris Voorn's "Deep Side Of The Moog" pick up the vibe of Cassy's track, while developing a true Detroit sensibility. Oliver Ho's "Tempo" combines an ultra-rough, super-funky house groove with disturbing sounds.
Roman Flügel
and
Sven Väth
develop a mind-distorting synthesizer frenzy without giving away any of their electronic coolness. Merging wide-ranging sounds into complex structures,
Simon Baker
creates a sexy tension on "U," while Len Faki combines the slow, meditative speed of a deep house track with the captivating energy of his highly-influential techno productions. "Diablo" by
Dubfire
possesses a combination of efficiency and elegance that makes you feel like flying in a supersonic aircraft.
Tolga Fidan
displays his special talent for composing graceful melodies arranged in an acoustic labyrinth, while
Gui Boratto
combines a linear, Cologne-styled groove with haunting ambient sounds.
Efdemin
's "Float" has a vibrating, staccato groove whose energetic center can't be seized. "3 Of A Kind" by Mark August is a moody tech-house track which fixates on certain emotional states in order to drive them into escalation. Concluding the mix is Matt Star's "Am I Dreaming" -- suggestive, immediate and full of fantasy. The

compilation will be a devoted companion for the summer of 2008 and beyond.

The Cocoon label presents the
Cocoon Morphs Tokyo
CD, previously released exclusively in Japan. Presenting exclusive work by artists of the highest Cocoon-caliber,
Cocoon Morphs Tokyo
also celebrates the aesthetic partnership between world-renowned German photographer and artist
Andreas Gursky
and Cocoon-head
Sven Väth
. Gursky has published a cycle of large-sized pictures with "cocoon" as the central theme: the "Cocoon" pictures reference current club culture, with Gursky using the big techno events Cocoon stages as inspiration. The architectural frame of his work refers to the design of the CocoonClub in Frankfurt. The spatial concept was developed by Väth, together with the design agency 3deluxe. In Gursky's cover art, you can see the idealized approach to the original CocoonClub in all its fervent glory. Here, excellent electronic music meets the work of the most important contemporary German artist worldwide -- again, Cocoon explores new frontiers and combines art forms of the 21st century. This is the debut full-length by Hamburg's
Arne Schaffhausen
and
Wayan Raabe
aka
Extrawelt
. The duo describe the aesthetic of
Schöne Neue Extrawelt
thusly: "
It's all about hooking up our music to the emotional world of electronic music at the beginning of the '90s, however, without falling for nostalgic references. We don't want to do cowardly zeitgeist techno, we want to have the heart to dare big sounds and more melodies. Sunrise scenarios, energy, revolution and kaput-ness, all these are parts of the Extrawelt
." Extrawelt have been unmistakably imprinting the last three years' club sound with widely-noticed releases on Border Community (
Sooper Track
), Traum Schallplatten (
Doch Doch
) and Cocoon Recordings (
Titelheld
) as well as with remixes for
Gregor Tresher
,
Minilogue
and
Alexander Kowalski
. Work on this record began more than two years ago: "
The initial idea was to present an album covering all styles of electronic music between ambient, breakbeats and techno. When we had 25 tracks for the album ready, we had to realize that this approach did not work for us. Insofar, we finally decided to use the 4/4 bass drum in all tracks except in the little intermezzo 'Kurt Curtain.' We have tested all tracks live over the last three months and constantly re-interpreted them. So, the 'danceability' is clearly our focus ... but our intention was definitely not to deliver an album full of superficial peak-time hits
." These 12 tracks represent a pleasurable "in-betweenness," the organic development of hypnotically compressed dance music that is more than just minimal techno, reduced trance or electronic circa Warp-era. From the richly decorated musical clock intro of "One Tree Hill" to the stereo singing bowl of "Trümmerfeld," to the Asian-sounding creaking of "Daten Raten," Extrawelt celebrate a vision of futuristic melancholy with organically detailed richness that is permanently in motion, but is nevertheless well-balanced.

This is the third full-length album from Poland's
Jacek Sienkiewicz
for Cocoon Recordings.
Modern Dance
is a mixed CD compilation of his past and future 12" releases for his very own Recognition label and from Cocoon. For the last ten years, Jacek has been carving his very own niche in this genre formerly known as techno. Paying respect to the classic masters of Detroit sound, he has never followed formulas and classic frames of what was once considered minimal techno, instead always working on both expanding and questioning the music we used to know. Hence,
Modern Dance
was born. As we all know, dance is an art form, referring to the movements of the human body. Be it a form of one's expression, social interaction, or the extension of spiritual life, dance is most often associated with music. Dance embodies emotions, expresses ideas and generally tells a story. Music is the catalyst. The modern dance was raised out of rebellion against the strict formulas of tradition -- and so was the music you are about to hear. Jacek Sienkiewicz has been exploring the emotional, physical, mental, communicative and artistic aspects of dance and music for the last ten years. Probing and expanding the boundaries of classic techno music, filtering Detroit sound through innumerable studio experiments, his music became the way to express his deepest inner feelings and visionary creativity -- and this is exactly what modern dance is about.

Cocoon's hotly-anticipated letter series of inspired dance-music compilations reaches letter "I." Like each year, Cocoon and
Sven Väth
set standards and cement reputations with a collection of the hottest and most exclusive tracks in contemporary techno, having generated smash hits from the likes of "Geht's Noch?" or "Mückenschwarm," as on previous installments of the series. This edition is particularly focused on house, beginning with the debut of
eMT
, a collaboration between
Tobi Neumann
and his partner
Matthew Styles
, who will enchant the dancefloor with their warm, organic sound.
Lauhaus
present their percussive and Detroit-dub style "Back To Ipanema," while
Secret Cinema
lift hands in the air with the highly-harmonic house tune "Kurzweil." Detroit's M_nus ambassador
Gaiser
takes the path of reduced deepness with his hypnotic trip-house in "Am I," and this is not the only surprise:
Matthew Edwards
' aka
Radio Slave
's highly-anticipated first track for Cocoon is a glorious Wild Pitch revival with constant layers of sound, a pumping bass kick and an organ that would even make
DJ Pierre
proud. And once again,
Timo Maas
lets you totally lose yourself for 11 minutes with his space-y, alarm siren disco-funk. Twelve more tracks reveal the best and brightest artists of this year, and those who are sure to shine far into the future. Other artists include:
Tim Green & Emerson Todd

The UK's
Phil Kieran
has been in the upper echelons of the electronic music game for more than a decade, but is only now releasing his debut album under his own name. Known for rocking clubs and releasing a string of killer 12"s, Belfast-based Phil has hooked up with German powerhouse Cocoon in recent times.
Shh
is a groundbreaking piece of work that will undoubtedly gain Phil plaudits across the board. The album seems to not only reference every sound Phil has ever loved in music, but is formulated in a completely fresh and futuristic way. Listen carefully, and you will detect elements of dub reggae, old hardcore like
LFO
, hip-hop, early-'90s electronica such as
Autechre
/
Black Dog
and other Warp staples, as well as the futuristic techno that Phil excels in. For the album, Phil went back to old sound lab recordings dating back to the 1950s and 1960s. Utilizing some of these sounds in the initial construction, he built up tracks using a combination of old samples sourced from original and weird places and some live new instrumentation as well. There are live drums, some electric/acoustic/bass guitar and live keyboard playing, as well as some choice guest vocalists. Simply put, Phil has synthesized his myriad of influences into one radically beautiful whole: blissed-out vocal samples, space age electro, cavernous bleeps, fizzy technoid 4/4 beats, glistening glitches, crackers crackles, early R&S sounds, warm keys, acerbic bass line undertows, dense echoes,
Orbital
cinematics and randy robotics all feature, but really, this is an album far greater than the sum of its parts. It's very much a home- or car-listening album, perfect for post-club play, although plenty of the individual tracks contain discerning dancefloor dynamics, too.
Shh
is an incredibly stimulating amalgam of sounds that will have your mind and body scrolling through decade upon decade of sound. Destined to take its place amongst not only the albums of the year, but as one of the landmark releases of the last two decades.

Cocoon's hotly-anticipated letter series of inspired dance-music compilations reaches letter "J." For ten years now, the Cocoon-style alphabet is a guarantee of high class and exclusively-produced floor burners by the international techno and house elite, and, beyond that, a reliable indicator for the stylistic bandwidth of contemporary electronic dance music. And even with the previous editions A through I having set the bar high, the "J" edition starts with a true musical sensation, as the opener "Cocoon Dark Dub" comes from nobody less than
Moritz von Oswald
. So, initially, it's the heartbeat of dub techno that pulsates through a lonely piano and noise fractals, and the club world holds its breath for a good eight minutes. However, the "J" compilation literally pulls out all the stops over the following 110 minutes playtime and shows what modern electronic dance music has to offer in these times. The Dial impresario
Pantha Du Prince
celebrates crystalline ice dance, while Cécille label-head
Nick Curly
, with his sensual tribal house, feasts on the most compact form of disco boogie that one can imagine. With "SBboty," the Kompakt ambassador
DJ Koze
flabbergasts the audience by combining virtually incompatible elements. Improvised horn licks whirr through a flickering, resonating body, while the bass kick fills up the tropical, ambient air. However, the invariably Cocoon policy to always support interesting newcomers becomes visible with the contribution of
Basti Grub
's "Sick," which climbs into your brain with its melodic high-frequency hook line and mysterious vocals, matching perfectly to the melancholic playfulness of the tracks by
Guy Gerber
.
Ali Shirazinia

and

present some stringent hypno techno with a diaphragm-shaking bass drum. Besides the above-mentioned, the "J" compilation holds such well-known producers such as
Loco Dice
,
Extrawelt

Reboot
and last not least, long-time Cocoon companion
Ricardo Villalobos
, whose 12-minute-long dance on the echo-filled "Humusweg" once again draws the bow to the

Igor Tchkotoua was sitting directly behind him and heard Dan explaining his involvement in the music industry and decided to join the conversation. After the flight Igor and Dan swapped numbers and agreed that one day they should hook up and talk. They both had started producing and DJing back in the days of acid house and warehouse parties, and two years after their first meeting, they decided it would be stupid not to get in the studio together -- the start of Pig & Dan.

For more than fifteen years,
Johannes Heil
has been an essential part of the German techno scene and with his classics such as "Paranoid Dancer" (Kanzleramt, 1998) or "Calling" (Kanzleramt, 1999), he belongs to the acoustic long-term memory of techno. However, in the last few years, with his releases for Klang Elektronik,
Anthony Rother
's Datapunk label and several other imprints like JH Records, Metatron or, most recently, Shit Happens, Johannes remains one of the guarantors for musical enhancements. With his eighth studio album
Loving
, Heil takes stock of his 15 years of musical past, in a modern and at the same time traditional way. He uses influences from Detroit house only superficially; the history of modern dance music that he tells is that of music as the universal language between all continents. So, one can find broken rhythms, combined with African chants as well as a terrific, pumping electro bass line and pizzicato strings, hypnotically dancefloor-binding sub-bass runners or samba percussion tracks with marching band citations and weightless Detroit high-tech house -- all of them equally part of the comprehensive vocabulary of... yes, love. After all, love is an emotional condition that still feels the best in the present tense. Maybe the time of love is now, in the year 2010. "
With
Loving
I want to embrace the whole world, because this journey to the origins of electronic dance music in between modern Detroit, high-tech soul and house is coming from the very bottom of my heart

The Cocoon label celebrates its 11th anniversary with a glorious 2CD compilation of tracks. Those who have followed the output of the most successful German label for electronic dance music since 2000 to date are aware of the fact that Cocoon's aim is to further the development of sound instead of sticking to nostalgia. Against this background, it may be a temporal coincidence but also totally logical that, on the occasion of the eleventh anniversary, this compilation breaks with traditions which people have come to like. So, the focus of CD1 does not lie in celebrating only the "best of" tracks, but rather in nine tracks from the past six years which have, without doubt, made some impact on clubs and dancefloors worldwide, but whose stories have not been musically "told" so far. It all begins with

Poland's
Jacek Sienkiewicz
presents his first album for Cocoon Recordings since 2004's
Displaced
(COR 008CD/LP). With over 30 releases behind him, and over a decade of running his own label, Sienkiewicz persistently follows his very own path, creating music that is impossible to define. Friendly, but not fraternizing, modest, but stubborn only in a positive way, Jacek is an individual with a clear, personal vision and an unorthodox approach to music -- light years away from the hectic, utilitarian ethos of club-derived electronic beats.
On The Road
is complex and challenging, to be derived in recent years from the music formerly known as techno. This album successfully attempts to embrace virtually all aspects of modern electronic music -- from rave-like club bangers, through Detroitish passion and deep house-like style, towards ambient soundscapes that are Mariana Trench-deep. Although "Departure" and "Arrival" are clearly marked, this is a journey without a beginning or an end, an endless peregrination in search of the lost chords, primal rhythms and melodies coming supposedly from another world.
On The Road
is also another collaboration with Cocoon -- starting with
Téchnè
(COR 003CD), through the memorable
Displaced
, the cycle is now completed with one of the most experimental albums to appear on
Sven Väth
's label to date. This record is not easy and definitely demands attention -- but it's also rewarding like no other.
On The Road
encapsulates Jacek's journey to date -- and is by no means its closing chapter. Quite the contrary -- it's a blueprint for an even more advanced attempt to create a truly timeless piece of art without denying its obvious, energetic and joyful roots. This is proper music -- full of energy and life, impossibly complex yet light as a feather, dense, thought-provoking and playful at the same time. Balancing between dirty noises and angelic melodies, it is moving and at times simply breath-taking. From the opening drone, in a second turned into a whirlwind of sounds and noises, via robotic fanfares for the common traveler and muscular bass-driven anthems for still non-existent dancefloors, towards ambient-like bliss, we hear mature, totally original music. It's not Detroit nor Santiago, not Sheffield nor Berlin, it's not even the sound of Jacek's hometown of Warsaw -- this is the
real
music of the spheres.

Henrik Schwarz
then sets the course more to the dancefloor with his mythic-percussive dub-house runner "Now This Way," while the Far-Eastern-like, hypnotic reduction of "Blue Storm" by
Matt John
irresistibly takes our collective consciousness to Floor #7 after that. The meeting of the two house modernists

Argy

Sascha Dive
's minimal-ska-influenced "New Frontiers" show that the Rhein Main area is still good for some damn innovative tracks.
Maetrik
shines again with his dirty soul-tech and with the mean high-frequency wild pitch of "The Thrust,"
Argy
delivers the unofficial successor to his "Unreliable Virgin." Besides that,
Tom Trago
continues the long-lasting history of Detroit, using a quite percussive organ motif. Butch presents a siren-like deep house jewel, and the compilation is completed by
Sebastian Mullaert
and
Marcus Henriksson
aka
Minilogue
with their 16-minute-track "Blessed" -- without doubt the most sensual and melancholic title that the two have ever produced together. You can't get any closer to the pulse of modern electronic music culture than with this compilation -- in a little more than 100 minutes.

The spectrum of musical influences has again extended and the most diverse styles of electronic music connect seamlessly with the Extrawelt spirit. Here, the sonic Zeitgeist is not the determining variable for the music -- what really counts is the creation of nothing more and nothing less than a new world, by means of a never-exhausting acoustic imagination which shows new facets, even after the thousandth time of listening. presents two extraordinary productions, which draw a bow from house to pretty weird techno. The A-side is elegant with a light but effective shuffle programming. The mid-'80s house sounds, the fat and straight beats and the 303 acid line unite the best from old and new school. By contrast, Adam unpacks the punk on the B-side. What starts as a fuzzy electro track with a dark bass sound and a mighty 909 kick turns into a techno monster with freaky breaks and insane synth sounds. An absolute highlight for fans of

"Jimmy Rave Up" is a dark, pushing runner that proves Green's wealth of variants once again. "Dodjo" forms an intersection between tropical calypso sounds and machine-like strictness -- an unforgettable track.

2003 release, available again! One of the most devastating electronic mixes since the glory days of Stacy Pullen or Claude Young's
DJ Kicks
installments. Totally awesome all around. "Well-known as Resident DJ in several clubs since 1988, Darmstadt born Ricardo Villalobos started producing excellent records in 1990. Since 2000, Ricardo lives in Berlin during the summer and moves to his native country Chile in the winter. This big share of summer is also noticeable in his music: his sets come along very light and levitating, the mixes are pointed and skillful. The Mix CD in hand exactly moves within this range: Ricardo gives an overview of his most important electronic Dance Tracks of the year and mixes them in the playful way we all know him for. The last three tracks illustrate his roots; it's getting rather housy here. Villalobos' definition of electronic club music is mainly based on House, even if some tracks sound more electronically. Beneath good fellows and old mates (and their labels), the tracklisting shows many new and partly unknown talents. Supporting new artists and their music always was and still is one of Ricardo's aims." 2004 release. The DVD is European PAL format only. "This year, the Cocoon Club celebrated it's fifth season at the Amnesia in Ibiza, and that is truly a reason to party! Not only because of the anniversary but also due to the fact that this season was both the most beautiful and successful so far. From the time we started our events in 2000 until now, this year fifth season was by far the most exiting and thrilling one for us. The 'Cocktails' concept, which was a good mixture of extraordinaire décor, great visuals and excellent sound, did not only open the mouths on the island. Once again, we managed to attract a selected crowd of clubbers and gave them the time of their lives. For the first time, Cocoon was responsible for both the main and house floor, and we really showed everyone what kind of sound Cocoon stands for in Ibiza. We have already been asked several times to publish this unique atmosphere on video or DVD -- et voilá -- here is the masterpiece: The audio CD gathers the best tracks of the summer in a unique mix by Sven Väth, sometimes tending to a song-focused selection. He succeeded once more in transforming the eight or nine hours of a Cocoon Club party at the Amnesia into the 72 minutes of a CD without losing the spirit of the party. The tracks by Freeform Five, Roman Flügel or Goldfrapp were the hits this summer and do perfectly transport the atmosphere of the night. An exclusive interview shows the person and the artist Sven Väth, he is talking about Ibiza and his motivation to go there; besides that, a review on Five Years Cocoon Club Ibiza is given. A forty minute live DJ Set by Sven Väth (the first one on DVD ever!!!) and the live Recording of Alter Ego's milestone 'Rocker' from the Amnesia round up this DVD, which gives the spectator a glance behind the scenes that has never been possible before." Loco Dice
and Cocoon darling
Ricardo Villalobos
, including the atmosphere, have been recorded and are here released as a double mix CD. From hip-hop star to successful house DJ, producer and remixer, Loco Dice had toured the clubs worldwide as a rapper and DJ. Besides his residencies at Tribehouse (Neuss) and DC10 (Ibiza), he plays the most important clubs and events worldwide. His style is characterized by a deep and groovy house sound, which he calls chunky. His own productions as well as his remixes for artists like
Timo Maas
or
Mousse T.
make him a popular producer and remixer. Since the early '90s, Ricardo Villalobos has been building an impressive discography of 12" releases on respected dance labels like Playhouse and Perlon. A minimalist at heart, he has trotted the globe to study percussion in order to apply his knowledge to his productions, which almost always sound remarkably expansive despite their simplicity. In addition to his own solo material, he has recorded with fellow expatriate

Whether it be at Womb in Tokyo or at Twilo in New York -- Frank has played in all the big clubs on this planet and performed at many festivals such as I Love Techno, Mysteryland and Nature One. He has worked on projects with great artists like
Sikora
,

,

and
Pascal Feos

Jailhouse Rocker

Five years for Cocoon Recordings, that makes twenty-two 12"s, fourteen mix-CDs and five label compilations. Cocoon youngster Chris Tietjen went about compiling the best tracks of the Cocoon Recordings 12"s into a veritable musical cross-section. The result is a unique mix which contains pieces from recent times (

Berlin-based producer, remixer and DJ Tobi Neumann is without doubt a trendsetter in the field of tech-house and electro house. These are genres which have been attributed a German authorship in the last years -- not surprising with labels like Get Physical and Playhouse and protagonists such as
Loco Dice
,
Steve Bug
and Tobi Neumann. His DJ bookings take him all around the world and of course, Tobi is again one of the residents of Cocoon Club Ibiza.
Flieder Lieder
(which translates to "lilac songs") sounds like summer and smells like blooming bushes. Casual and easygoing in the beginning, with tracks by
DWA
,
Cassy
and the
Sunpeople
, it becomes more and more driving but always tasteful tech- house. Tobi has assembled a who's who of current tech-house (e.g.
Anja Schneider
), and is not shy of exploring demanding deep house (e.g.
Frank Roger
&
Femi Kuti
). This is a great CD, which illustrates the current trend of "minimal meets deep house," perfectly escorting us to a light, evening sun-filled summertime dancefloor. Cocoon Recordings and Tobi Neumann: they'll house you! Other artists on this mix include:

Frankfurt-based Sven Väth is co-founder of the Cocoon label, and this is his mix presentation of the sounds at the Ibiza Cocoon Club in its seventh season, 2006. It's hot, the sun is burning and Mediterranean scents are waving through the car window -- a combination of suntan lotion, excellent food and the sea. This is a cosmic place, only a stone's throw away from the dull European cities, a summer meeting point for the international clubbing society. For seven years now, the Cocoon Clubs in Frankfurt and Ibiza, Cocoon Recordings, and also DJs like
Ricardo Villalobos
,
Richie Hawtin
,
André Galluzzi
,
Tobi Neumann
and many more -- are now setting the new tone, and the world is definitely listening. Sven Väth has been a crucial part of this success by bringing together the best of the best and the newest of the new: besides the big hits ("This Is Sick," "Dump Truck," "Nam Nam"), many brand new listening pearls as well as two treasures from the Cocoon Recordings chest ("Hummel" by
Adam Kroll
and "Bionik" by
Dominik Eulberg
) can be found on this double CD, which is again split up into a "Night" and a "Day" mix by Väth himself. These tracks have been carefully selected to evoke the summer island season, so open a bottle of Rioja, enjoy some bread and aioli and watch out for next summer. Artists include:

Chris Tietjen
compiles the best Cocoon releases of the year on one CD, providing a mix that summarizes the party highlights of the past year perfectly. With three artist albums, the
Compilation G
and numerous 12"s, Cocoon again set standards in 2007 and is also planning a lot for 2008. Besides the year's big hits (
Argy
's "Unreliable Virgin,"
Martin Buttrich
's "Hunter" or
Beroshima
's "Horizon"), Chris has also included some flip-side pearls (
Lucio Aquilina
's "My Cube" and
Phonogenic
's "Alpha Blend") on the CD, delivering an impeccable 70-minute set that elegantly steps on the border between house and techno. Nonchalantly, he opens with Martin Buttrich's "Hunter," continues with shooting star Lucio Aquilina and develops a driving and groovy atmosphere with
Pig&Dan
's "Sly Detector," which marks an emotional highlight before he closes the mix with
Adam Proll
's "Elevator,"
Joel Mull
's "Harmonautic String" and
Jacek Sienkiewicz
's "Good Luck." A very atmospheric and competently made mix with carefully chosen highlights.

Sven Väth
is co-founder of the Cocoon label, and
The Sound Of The Ninth Season
is his musical trip through the year 2008. Listening to the mesmerizing grooves, you might browse through the memories of your own year. What were its special moments? It might be a trip, a relationship, or a party -- or a phrase in a track you danced to at a party. Rarely does electronic music manage to blend the personal and the public so perfectly:
The Sound Of The Ninth Season
is a compendium of the club music of 2008, but at the same time a very personal statement. Sven Vath passes his special musical message to everybody on this planet willing to celebrate what is exciting and fascinating about life. Simultaneously, it's a private statement about what is important to him artistically and socially. The two sets on this double CD could not be more different. The first CD is a techno hurricane, collecting the most energetic moments of 2008 including the most enigmatic and mysterious track released on Cocoon Recordings this year: "Subtellite" by
Timo Maas
. Although there have been a couple of mind-blowing club hits during 2008, it was not a year for explosive peak-time anthems. Instead, it was a year for subtle deep house grooves and quiet research within the textures and landscapes of electronic sounds. Taking these developments into account, the second set is a labyrinth of tender grooves and sweet and strange sounds. Vath's life long journey through electronic music continues and it brings us an excess of excitement, empathy, madness and beauty. Artists include

releases his fourth mix of the best of recent 12" vinyl output from the Cocoon Recordings label. Tietjen has been a key member of the Cocoon family since 2005, and with his Next Generation series at CocoonClub Frankfurt, he has established one of the most important creative pools for upcoming DJ talents; besides that, he regularly provides listeners with one of the most crucial musical determinations of contemporary techno. The characteristic elements of Tietjen's understanding of DJ skills stress intensive bass lines and driving percussions, but also reveal a respect for the arrangement of the individual tracks.

edition. The long-time presence of the Cocoon Family in Ibiza has left noticeable imprints in the history of electronic dance music.
In The Mix
gives a taste of what the clubbers should expect at the "10 Years Of Craziness" parties, featuring a host of exclusive and unreleased tracks. The first CD is mixed by
Ali Shirazinia
aka
Dubfire
. Right after taking a bow before the forefathers of dub techno,
Basic Channel
, the mix begins relatively deep and relaxed, before the Berlin-based
Fritz Zander
gives the order to dance, with a claustrophobic groove-meets-xylophone monster track. After this, Dubfire pulls the hysteria factor to new ups, using tracks from
Sebrok
,
Rino Cerrone
,
Minilogue
,
Tiga
,
Alessio Mereu
, and
Paul Ritch
in Ali's own remix, and of course, a tribal-hypno masterpiece by
Reset Robot
-- which was exclusively produced for the CD.
Yapacc
's melancholic guitar echoes right before the grand finale of the CD.
Loco Dice
mixes the second CD, aiming to capture the special terrace-vibe of the Cocoon nights. His 70-minute mix is open to all styles of music and oscillates through a highly personal comprehension of house. After
Jin Choi
's opener, Dice's mix reaches a very hypnotic and warm intensity through
Patrick Specke
's Wild Pitch connotation and the terrific, playful tribal jazz of
Jay Haze & Ricardo Villalobos
. This warmth is carried through to the very important tracks by
Davide Squillace
,
Brothers' Vibe
and
Octave One
, and also for those tracks that have been produced exclusively for the CD, such as "Jadajada/Wallshaker," where
Reboot

Aaron Carl
apply some fresh paint to reduced, tribal techno-soul, whereas

will enter the history of house music, having delivered perhaps the darkest modification of classic house-diva vocals, ever. Other artists include:

The Cocoon label presents the second edition of the mix CD associated with the Green & Blue Open Air festival in Obertschausen near Frankfurt, Germany, mixed by veteran DJs
Tobi Neumann
and
Onur Özer
. Taking place every year on the first weekend in September, Cocoon-head
Sven Väth
and his crew transform the festival grounds into a dream of green meadows, blue water, lots of trees and light installations, laser shows, fireworks, and, above all, music from the best artists that the electronic music scene has to offer. In 2009, the two mixed CDs are manned by two DJs who are able to draw upon both long-time experience and innovation in sound: Tobi Neumann and Onur Özer. On these two CDs (each DJ is responsible for one mix), the two excellent turntable artists -- who, as a team are also known as
Sensitiva
-- give an outline of the most current and the hottest techno and tech-house tracks. They don't rely on big names and safe hits only, but also produce some real pearls out of their record case again and again. Besides names like
Reboot
,
Matthias Kaden
,
Sascha Dive
,
Tolga Fidan
and
Daze Maxim
, one can also find the young Romanian
Dan Andrei
, who presents his first international release on the Frankfurt imprint Be Chosen, after having released several records on Arpiar earlier. Also Cécille Records is represented with both well-established artists, such as Reboot, and promising new talents such as the young Italian
Leon
. Besides his brand-new track "Mare Maris," Onur Özer has also included jewels like
Taron Trekka
's "Radio Fligg," which has been praised by the German magazine

Like hardly any other contemporary DJ, Berlin-based
Catherine Britton
aka

is living at the interfaces between reduction and soul, jazzy deep house and geometrically-structured techno. In Berlin, she quickly gained a residency at the Panorama Bar, worked as a producer with such renowned musicians as
Ricardo Villalobos
,
Luciano
,
Mathew Jonson
and
Swayzak
, and has released her music on labels such as Perlon and Ostgut Ton as well as on her own imprint, Cassy.
Simply Devotion
is Cassy's second mix CD after the highly-acclaimed
Panorama Bar 01
(OSTGUT 002CD) compilation, and it is proof of her love for deep house of a different kind, which has -- despite occasional flashes of soul vocals -- nothing to do with garage house. With unhurried charm and a secure sense of the seductive power of house music, Cassy enchants us with more than 70 minutes of sensual sound hypnosis and she starts with an exclamation mark: together with his Ifach buddy
Ian Loveday
aka
Minimal Man
,
Baby Ford
beguiles the listener with mantra house with hints of Italo-pop.
Anton Zap
recalls, with his purified form of percussive dub house, the best days of
Chez Damier
, and
Danny Howells
makes you speechless with "September," a breathtaking stringed furioso in the best tradition of Detroit trance, remixed by
Future Beat Alliance
. Cassy's own unreleased track "Magnificent Cat Won't Do" is powered by the kind of electrically-charged minimal dub soul that is so typical for her. The final track comes from Miami's house institution and

Sven Väth
is co-founder of the Cocoon label, and
The Sound Of The Tenth Season
celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Cocoon parties at Club Amnesia in Ibiza. The past season was a very special one for Cocoon. Väth won the Ibiza DJ Award as best DJ and the award for the best set of the summer for a fabulous back-to-back set with
Luciano
. A Cocoon season is not complete without the concluding mix album, on which Väth merges all facets of the club sound of today into a double CD. With the tenth volume, he finalizes the first decade of Cocoon's activities, not only summing up the highlights of 2009's club-life, but predicting what will happen in 2010 -- and perhaps in the whole new decade. The hit-makers of the zero years are hardly present on this album; instead, Väth introduces a whole new generation of artists who might accompany him through the second decade of Cocoon in Ibiza. Musicians such as
Alejandro Mosso
from Argentina,
Marc Marzenit
from Spain or
Ilario Alicante
from Italy form an international network of talented young artists who have left the formative distinctions between techno and house behind. Some of Väth's
Season
mixes are divided into a "Night" and a "Day" chapter, and this new "Night"-mix might be the most subtle and quiet one yet. Unlike the general crop of DJs, Väth manages to cover all shades of electronic music: he fuses subtle sounds with epic breaks, tribal chants with futuristic beats.
The Sound Of The Tenth Season
captures moments of beauty and madness, of elegance and intensity. A DVD is also part of the pack, containing a 45-minute live-performance by Sven Väth, a series of interviews featuring Sven himself,
Richie Hawtin

The mix is rather a non-conventional mix, as there are many unreleased tracks from friends and artists that I deeply admire, like
Bruno Pronsato
, Matthew Styles and
The Mole
, as well as some tracks from ladies I really love musically, like
Nina Kraviz
,
Laverne Radix
or
Deniz Kurtel
who provide an extra feminine touch. I also assembled different styles, so it is like a three-hour-set condensed to one hour. The idea is to show as much freedom in dance music as possible -- the mix is not solely intended for the club or a big room, but is focused on the most intimate club, after-hour and warm-up moments with a strong emphasis on atmosphere. Emotion, femininity and depth are very important for me as an artist. I also try to keep the mix very modern, almost avant garde and visual, with new sounds and cutting edge tracks but without missing the club groove. As DJs, we usually feel we need to please hundreds or thousands of people in a club or at festivals. We have the pressure to make the ravers dance, scream and raise their hands frantically. Of course, we are in the club to party -- but I feel and wish that sometimes we would try to be more brave and show the other side of the coin, which I will try to do with this project. This 'rave alarm pressure' is limiting us too much as artists and keeps us afraid of playing the most challenging, deep and beautiful music, as we are afraid of losing the floor. I wanted to get rid of this fear on this mix and show another side of dance music

's Plus 8 label. With his mix, Carola illustrates the perfect party night on Amnesia's main floor with a sultry, percussive, and always sexy form of minimal funk. In particular, Marco Carola gives a major platform to breakthrough artists, like
Kobaalt
or
Reisak Corporation
. The mix builds with a constant intensity and his finale will have you ready to throw your arms in the air with some familiar tracks by
Martin Buttrich
and
Layo & Bushwacka
("The Longest Day," highlighted here through the
Audiofly
remix). Curly has already proved himself with his productions for Plastic City, 8 Bit and Cocoon as well as his own label Cécille Records, which he runs together with
Marc Scholl
. With his impressively energetic set, Curly demonstrates that soulful vocals and solid, hypnotic house make great bedfellows. Ranging from the percussive power house of "Get Your Space" by producer team
Phil Weeks vs. Krakatoa
through the jazziness of
Gorge
and onto the dubby excursion of
Horacio
, there is a wealth of quality on offer here.
Butch
's wild-pitch style and Curly's own brand of new disco funk further add to the richness of the mix, and by the time you reach the closing bars of
Burridge And Dekay
's "Wongel," it is clear why Cocoon were so keen to have Curly on-board. Other artists include:

CORMIX 031CD
The Cocoon label presents the third mix CD associated with the Green & Blue Open Air festival, mixed by
Steve Bug
and
Chris Tietjen
. Steve Bug has been a welcome guest since the early beginning of Cocoon Recordings, and he has prepared a magnificent house set, starting with an exceptional track at the beginning of his set.
Christian Smith
's rework of "At Les," THE classic track from the album
More Songs About Food And Revolutionary Art
by
Carl Craig
from 1997, is already now one of the most visionary tech-house tracks of this season and is here available for the first time on CD. Both the asynchronous xylophon-play from
Kenny Larkin
's "Glob" and the bass line endurance operation "The Light" by
André Lodemann
are to be warmly recommended, amongst the other moments of surprise in this mix. Chris Tietjen has established himself as a member of Cocoon, with his fingers on the pulse like nobody else. In his mix, Chris remains true to his DJ style, which is an exceptionally groovy form of reduced tech-house where he creates plenty of breathing space within his tracks.
Gadi Mizrahi
starts with a soulful tribal bomb followed by
Lee Burridge
's and
Matthew Dekay

Regular digipak edition in clear tray. Frankfurt-based

The Sound Of The Eleventh Season
. Inaugurating its second decade in Ibiza, Cocoon has presented a whole new range of musicians, performers, costumes, masks, choreographies and visuals. With the eleventh season, Väth has opened another chapter in Cocoon's never-ending metamorphosis: a butterfly of unknown splendor is born out of its cocoon. Perceived in all parts of the world, the Cocoon parties in Ibiza are a major cultural event. Being a manifesto of infinite transformation and growth, Väth manages to melt this season's most ecstatic moments into two sets, spanning over 2 1/2 hours. Both discs form a musical diary -- reaching beyond the current hits, Väth retrieves the profound qualities of contemporary electronic music. The charming, humorous vocals of
Gerd
fuse into
Château Flight
's subtle, elegant house grooves. The mood shifts, and
Jacek Sienkiewicz
enters with uncanny soundscapes and graceful Detroit grooves. The set accelerates with
Edit Select
's remix of
Speedy J
's "Trails," and with the frenzy of
Soul Center
's "Dyr Bul Scyl" and
MMM
's "Nous Sommes MMM," it turns into a series of climaxes. We are captivated by the adorable melodies of
Koze
's "Blume Der Nacht." We lose ourselves in the dub landscapes of
Skudge
's "Convolution," we are amused by the cut-up vocals of
Kabale Und Liebe
. The hypnotic grooves and mesmerizing melodies of
Martin Buttrich
's "Song Six" make us finally forget time and space before we are enchanted by the daring naïveté of
Plaid
's "Dett." The "Eleventh Season" might be over, but its experience endures. Other artists include:

Even if no other contemporary music style is as consistently searching for new sound horizons as electronic dance music does, in the end, the tradition of series within these constant developments provides us with well-known structures from the house of Cocoon. Thirty years of lived DJ culture, 11 years of label history and the sixth mix compilation by
Chris Tietjen
are events that need to be celebrated in 2011. The 26-year-old Frankfurter has been an essential part of the Cocoon family since 2005 and his annual compilation is on the one hand a most welcome definition of the state of modern tech house, and on the other hand, shows his own personal development from promising Rhein Main newcomer to one of the most influential DJs in Europe. In the true sense of Cocoon's publicized aesthetics of the DJ as a mediator of visions apart from the Sync button, Tietjen presents a journey through the last 12 months of Cocoon Recordings. And, once again, the acoustic cornucopia is full to bursting, containing tracks by
Loco Dice
,
Dubfire
,
Phil Kieran
,
Christian Burkardt
and many more: from the pop ambient of Fabric resident DJ
Arnaud Le Texier
("Elusanes" Beatless Version), Tietjen dives into the depths of dub with
Moritz Von Oswald
's "Cocoon Dark Dub" before the
Vision Quest
remix of
Dinky
's "Acid In My Fridge" sets the tone to a more club-esque format. What follows is yet again a tour de force through modern techno where anything goes, from percussive reduction (
Johannes Heil
's "The Ace - Butch Remix"), noise-heavy deep tech house (
Maetrik
's "Snorkel"), winding and harmonic Detroit techno (
2000 And One
's "Tropical Melon -
Tim Green
Remix") up to an almost Balearic emotional overflow towards the finale (
Chymera
's "Pump"; Johannes Heil's "Twentythree") -- a picturesque and more than inspiring kaleidoscope of modern electronic music. Other artists include:

Cocoon Heroes

Format:

Catalog #:
CORMIX 034CD
The Cocoon team around
Sven Väth
has chosen the motto "Cocoon Heroes" for the twelfth Cocoon Ibiza season. Not as self-adulation, as in the end, all participants -- whether they are behind the decks, the bar or, above all, on the dancefloor -- are the true heroes of the night. And as the official warm-up for this mega event series, Cocoon presents the fifth edition of the Ibiza Summer Mix, mixed by
Adam Beyer
and
Dorian Paic
. One of the true highlights of this season is Adam Beyer's anticipated performance -- the Drumcode label head is, together with
Richie Hawtin
,
Jeff Mills
and
Sven Väth
, one of the most influential figures in electronic dance music. Often being a guarantor for stringent and hard techno as a producer, Beyer proves his musical complexity as a DJ with an energetic tour de force between hypnotic, percussive tech house, dub and acid, and finally surprises the listener with a distinct affinity for meaningful vocal samples. With some brilliant tracks from
Function
,
Radio Slave
,
Joel Mull
,
Paul Ritch
,
Jesper Dahlbäck
and, first and foremost, with Beyer's collaboration with
Alan Fitzpatrick
, the sweat is most certainly going to be pouring out all over the dancefloor. Dorian Paic, Frankfurt resident and co-owner of the record store authority Freebase as well as label head of Raum...Musik, has been an essential part of the Rhein Main scene for many years now and is part of the line-up at the grand opening party at Amnesia. Those who have already experienced Paic as a DJ know about his matchless talent for making tastefully reduced but nevertheless unmistakable tech house jewels that tell their own very unique story. With his hypnotic and relaxed mix, Dorian oscillates within an artistic synthesis that distinctively bows to the roots of minimal techno, while also selecting artists like
Zip & Baby Ford
,
Daniel Bell
,
DJ Sneak
and
Daniel Stefanik
, reveals the mind of a true connoisseur. Especially in the consonance of those two very different types of modern electronic dance music, the listeners will be enchanted at home and on the dancefloor. Other artists include:

CORMIX 035CD
Being Germany's Gateway to the World, the port city of Hamburg always had a special affinity for America. So, it's not surprising that
Peter M. Kersten
aka
Lawrence
has had a deep musical and spiritual relationship with the Detroit techno aesthetics for more than ten years now. His label Dial Rec, which he runs together with
Carsten Jost
, stands more than almost any other European address for the value-conscious cultivation of high-quality, melancholy techno. After seven albums under his producer aliases Lawrence and
Sten
, Kersten now continues the perfection of his sound vision also as a DJ in a congenial way.
Timeless
is far away from the dictate of the dogmatic obligation to the currentness that DJs have to face nowadays, but celebrates electronic dance music as a timeless sensual component. With instinctive certainty, Kersten covers 16 years of living club history without ever losing sight of the acoustic "here and now," or even becoming the slightest bit anachronistically nostalgic. Instead, under his sensitive hands, milestones of minimalized deep house like "Forever Monna" by
Chez Damier
,
Ron Trent
and
Stacey Pullen
(1995) or the 1999 club hit "Overcome" by
Thomas Melchior/Baby Ford
come together with contemporary and intensive homages to Detroit techno like
Smallpeople & Rau
's "Life Aquatic,"
Delano Smith
's "My Life" or
Pigon
's fantastic dub tech romance "Beatmatching" in a wonderful way. Besides that, the mix features such well-known names such as
Aril Brikha
,
Isolée
,
The Ifach Collective
and
Robert Hood
, before
Roman Flügel
sets a wistful final chord with "Brian Le Bon," a track based on
Duran Duran
's masterpiece "Save A Prayer," and
Plaid
finishes the mix with the crystalline "OI." Lawrence's mix literally breathes the serenity of a light-flooded Sunday morning somewhere between a modernist city and a forest glade, and thus gives his global artistic approach a suitable dimension. Other artists include:
Soul Capsule

Schatrax
,
RVDS

CORMIX 036CD
Since its beginnings in 2003, the Green & Blue festival definitely belongs to the mandatory dates of the season for lovers of electronic dance music. And with its ninth edition, the annual open air highlight of the Rhein Main techno scene returns to its starting point: the former Waldschwimmbad in
Sven Väth
's birthplace, Obertshausen. Besides Sven Väth,
Carl Craig
and
Ricardo Villalobos
, there is also
Raresh
and
Sascha Dive
, who invite us to probably the last Sunday dance this season. For sure, the Bucharest-based producer and DJ
Rares Ionut Iliescu
aka Raresh is not unknown to many Cocoon fans, as he has sustainably proven his extraordinary DJ talent already. His mix is steeped in a distinct soul factor in the tradition of the dub techno that
Basic Channel
releases, and is, at the same time, so much more. To start, the Detroit neo-dubbers from
DeepChord
provide a traditional intro with "Sofitel" from the 2011 album
Hash-Bar Loops
, but there are also incredibly deep tracks from
Danilo Schneider
and
Delano Smith
. The techno density of the mix increases significantly with
Ion Ludwig
's "Harnas Rythm," only to savor the hypnotic factor towards the finale to the full extent with the Romanian discovery
Dan Andrei
and the great Ricardo Villalobos dub of the '90s,
Energy 52
's "Cafe Del Mar." Sascha Dive's set combines the best elements of American and European club tradition. He starts with techno globetrotter
Margaret Dygas
and continues with the '99 dub soul hymn "I Will Lead" by
Problem Kids
, perfectly illustrating his stylistic bandwidth between deepness and fragmented sound aesthetics. The highlights in this visionary set include tracks by
Osunlade
and
Ben Klock
, a
Luciano
remix of the Planet E classic "Can't Take It" by
Recloose
and the suggestive minimal soul anthem "Walking The Pattern" by

The Sound Of The Twelfth Season

Fuelled by the communicative energies of the social networks of the internet, the Cocoon is opening up, declaring ravers and performing artists, dancers and helpers part of the Cocoon as well. With the Cocoon club, Väth and his companions created a new type of club which fused sound and space into one immersive experience. Having realized that the daily life in the big cities compromises partying without limits, they set up a second home each summer at Club Amnesia on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza. The "Sounds Of The Season" series is an aural photo album and a compressed culmination at the same time. The love for electronic music is the driving force of all Cocoon's endeavors.

Even after more than 30 years of living the lifestyle of electronic dance music, techno is still sometimes looking for a matching form and sound language to transfer the special thrill of a live event to a club night adequately. So,
Sven Väth
and his crew were even more excited about the live set of
Eric Estornell
aka
Maetrik
at Cocoon's Closing Party at Amnesia/Ibiza in 2011. For the finish of a season that once again explored the limits of party culture, Maetrik celebrated an extraordinary energetic state of emergency for more than one hour. The resulting live CD reflects that matchless mixture of pumping deep house, energetic soul and adrenaline-enriched noise that Maetrik presented already on such renowned labels as Treibstoff, Dumb-Unit and Audiomatique, and which is, with timeless tracks like "Snorkel" and "Crush On Me," also an important part of Cocoon's current label portfolio. The Texan that lives in Valencia, Spain delivers a brilliant performance with ten tracks or remixes (among them
Silicone Soul
and
Popof
), including four unreleased tracks. Estornell's distinctive style stamps the night with his hallucinogenic vocals and deep hypnotic beats, illuminating the club with an energy that is literally everywhere. Thanks to the preacher vocals in "The Poem," a longing, subsonic pulse in the "Jazzersize" remix of the soul anthem "3am," the reduced, pumping funk of "The Pressure" or the programmatic, Maetrik-style definition "Particle House" with his breathless house mantra, the limits of time and space are overridden effectively, before the final "Crush On Me" -- one of the best club tracks in 2011 -- provides the set with a conclusive climax.

The itchy seventh year can obviously do no harm to
Chris Tietjen
. With his usual aplomb, the DJ from Frankfurt compiles the gems of the last twelve months of Cocoon Recordings into a fulminant tour de force, and once again, it's not until this 77-minute-long overall picture that it becomes clear how many superb club moments have accumulated in the Cocoon record case in the past year. Of course,
Maetrik
's dark and deep particle house "Crush On Me" plays a significant role here, but also
Nick Curly
's analog bass-driven hi-energy attack "Sun City" was ranked quite high in 2011's reader's charts in
Groove
Magazine. Besides that, we find
Pele
's dub tech monster out of Rosenheim ("Nothing Else"), the thrilling rework of
Guy Gerber
's classic "Timing" by the two Athens-based DJs
Kassey Voorn
and
Pete McCarthy
,
Dinky
's surprisingly dirty and song-like declaration of love from the K compilation ("Lovin") and, of course, the Ibiza anthem 2011 by
Boys Noize
("Adonis") can't be ignored here, too. Tietjen's special DJ quality is once again obvious in his habitually unpretentious DJ mix that nevertheless always has the arc of suspense in focus and respectfully leaves the tracks the compositional air to breathe but gives you the final kick right through the combination of the tracks. And this is exactly the reason why Tietjen has turned from a promising newcomer from the Rhein-Main area to one of the most formative DJs in Europe. Other artists include:

London's
Ross Evana
ranked #12 on Beatport's house charts with "Ouija Board." His track "Thrilla In Manila" first takes its time to build up before it sets a tremendously powerful exclamation mark on the dancefloor with its tropical, hypnotic percussions. The second side is from Stockholm-born cousins
Alex Caytas
and
Aleks Patz
. "Blue Sea" shows the duo's affinity for the energetic deep house techno of the '90s, with its organ sound, blues vocals and a highly-infectious bass line.
