Artist: EEDIO
Title: Hero
Label: DEVICE (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $9.00
Catalog #: IRQ 005EP
"Datathief's Device imprint steps up a gear with a new Disco Bag and the first offering from Bpitch Control superstar Eedio for this Manchester imprint. 'Hero' spans the whole of the A side and perfectly captures the finest side of all electro pop sensibilities, beautifully setting aside all things clash/punk/jizz...oh yess. A computerised vocal repeats the refrain while crunchy 8-bit pops provide much squashed action to sit alongside the deep synth bassline and classic electro beats. Awesome stuff. 'Breakage' on the flip erupts with another crisp Casio convulsion , slightly distorted synths making for some tough company, wobbling away with a muffled vocal giving it some classic Bpitch styles with that distinct devastated slant. 'Modulation', meanwhile, chucks us onto the dancefloor in earnest, a classic Blue Monday synth modulation providing the necessary squelch, vocoded stretches lending themselves to the beat with about as much acidic flair as is possible to condense onto wax. A perfect blend of New Order, Skanfrom, Bochum Welt, Memory Boy, Perspects and Adult."

Artist: FINLOW, CARL
Title: Electrilogy +
Label: DEVICE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: IRQ 006CD
"Nine tracks drawn from the by now infamous blue-bagged, vinyl Electrilogy series, plus an all new, unreleased bonus trilogy of killer tracks, all lovingly mastered for this release by Bola. The Device label, convened in Manchester by Datathief, and sporting gorgeous artwork by alter-ego Gique, makes a stunning return with this, its first compact disc. Mr Carl A. Finlow, aka Silicon Scally, Voice Stealer, Random Factor, Il-Ek-Tro, has over the last decade or so appeared on quality imprints such as Warp, SCSI-av, 20/20 Vision, Playhouse, Satamile, Klang -- in fact the list is virtually never-ending. This series of releases were the first to bear Carl's own name, and went some way to defining yet another aspect of this amazing producer, somewhere along the way summing up the massive surge in the electrodisco scene over the last three or four years. Effortlessly fashioning the continuing influence of classic eighties and nineties electronic music --imagine a global trajectory spanning Kraftwerk, YMO, John Foxxx, Italian electrodisco, Yorkshire bleeps and Drexciya -- Carl has pretty well delivered an all new manifesto for the dirty funk."

Artist: BOCHUM WELT
Title: Kissing A Robot Goodbye
Label: DEVICE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: IRQ 007CD
"Gianlugi Di Costanzo has been a doyen of the left field electronic scene for over ten years now. First appearing on the scene with a flurry of underground twelves, the good offices of Rephlex quickly saw a good thing, latching onto the Bochum Welt phenomenon for four mini albums around this time, while also procuring a full remix set from Gianlugi of contemporary maverick Like A Tim. 'Mannequin' here, dates from this classic period, suave neo-Italo after party tuneage. Check the tune 'Telegame' for some flavour of where this music's headed, roughed up bass undertow, ominous padding, topped with a crystalline melodic architecture -- killer stuff. Recent commercial collaborations with Thomas Dolby have fostered this sense of a full time technetronic crusader, at once leading edge and at the same time fondly connected to the analog, vintage warmth of classic drum machines, samplers, Oberheims and Moogs."

Artist: VA
Title: Disco Undead
Label: DEVICE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: IRQ 008CD
"The horror, the horror -- imagine your worst slasher nightmares transfered directly to the devil's disco dancefloor. A cross-section of the world's finest, dirty-electro zombie-worshippers bow down and deliver their own interpretations of soundtracks featured in their favourite 70's and 80's horror movies, all exclusively for the truly electrifried Device Electronic Entertainment label. Some movies will be instantly recognizable; the debt of the electro nu-school to the works of John Carpenter is oft-cited and fully in evidence here, others less so -- unless you collected all the banned 'video nasties' on the list, mid furor. Of course, these slightly more liberal times have seen most of these films passed uncut and in far wider circulation than their creators could ever have envisaged. Elements of this music have seeped into the mainstream, tainting flesh and consuming souls from within with its blank staring empty-eye sockets and decrepit imagery. From the true underground, directors such as Lucio Fulci, the most perverse purveyor of rotting flesh and popping eyeballs, and Dario Argento, laying on the stylish atmosphere and the frenzied stabbings, have inspired a creme de la creme of the current new wave of Italo-disco protagonists to new heights of unease." Artists: Orgue Electronique, Gique, It & My Computer, Bangkok Impact, Solenoid, Tobe Hooker, Legowelt, Johnny Cortex, Negative, Fictional Character, Le Syndicat Electronique, Porn Darsteller.

Artist: GOSUB
Title: Dating Mining in Anthilia
Label: DEVICE (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: IRQ 009EP
"Almost presumed missing in action, Device have lured Shad T. Scott back into the fold. The brains and talent behind Isophlux -- always one of the more interesting American electrotech labels -- here builds up a mighty rumpus across five killer tunes. Gosub effortlessly span a range of styles on the tracks here -- from the bootyfunk of 'Last sequence complete' to the inspired electrodubdisco of 'Drake Pass' and of course the night drive through Babylon style 'Bronx Network'. 'Pulse Direction Miami' -- the lengthiest piece here almost sums up the release, low slung dirty bassy electrofunk."
