Artist: DEEPCHORD
Title: Vantage Isle Sessions
Label: ECHOSPACE
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: ECHOSPACE 001CD
"Echospace [Detroit] is the label launched by Rod Modell (Deepchord) and Soultek's Steven Hitchell, two leading lights of the minimal dub techno scene. And as with anything Deepchord, the entire release has an air of mystery to it. Previously, as a near-mythical vinyl pressing with minimal packaging and restricted pressings, everything about Vantage Isle was geared toward the underground, or 'those who know.' However, there's nothing but love of craft driving these grooves, and now a lot more people will finally be able to hear this absolutely brilliant collection of spacial dub wonder on CD. Vantage Isle Sessions consists of a whopping 13 takes of the title track, reworked by Modell and Hitchell in various guises (cv313, Deepchord, Echospace, Spacecho), as well as a guest spot (and first ever remix) from Gerard Hanson (Convextion). Across their 13 versions, Modell and Hitchell manage to take the Deepchord template (analog synths, deep bass, gently throbbing beats, bursts of static and noise, and deep, deep chords) into a surprising variety of directions, akin to looking at the same giant glacier from a helicopter from every angle possible: some are beatless and undulating, some are pulsing and dynamic, some are looking up from under the ice and some are towering overhead. The aforementioned Convextion version is revelatory. It's built on cascading and echoing pieces of the original that are layered like shifting sands, for a distinctly dark and shimmering journey to the bottom of the frozen ocean and back. It's remarkable enough to get all these takes on one basic template to sound somewhat different, given that the source material is really just a skeletal array of sound sheets. Vantage Isle Sessions is for anyone looking for the logical successors to the Basic Channel throne, or just looking for something mellow for those steamy late summer nights. A stone-cold classic of the genre. Don't miss it." --Todd Hutlock, Stylus Magazine/Beatz by the Pound

Label: ECHOSPACE
Format: 12"
Price: $12.50
Catalog #: ECHOSPACE 010-A
This is the second single culled from cv313's 2CD album Dimensional Space, featuring two versions of "Infinit-1." Recorded in a live session of over 2 hours, "Infinit-1" refers to an infinite state of being. This project was based on an experiment using a hybrid form of discrete summation to create a new hybrid of both "waveshaping" and "subtractive"-based synthesis ("carriershaping") currently being developed for mass consumption. Features the first remix ever from Stephan Laubner (STL) in one of his deepest moments.

Catalog #: ECHOSPACE 313-L
Son's Of The Dragon debuted in 2008 on a mysterious white double vinyl out of Detroit, and they awake again to bring you The Journey Of Qui Niu. The cv313 rework plays off the original version, but adds a low-end throb so deep it could shake the heavens. SQX takes a different approach -- they use the synthesized textures as warm sonic fragments, as if building a sonic puzzle. A destined classic -- do not miss. Limited edition colored vinyl.

Artist: MODEL 500
Title: Starlight
Label: ECHOSPACE
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: ECHOSPACE 313CD
This is the remastered original "Starlight" from the Godfather of Techno, Juan Atkins aka Model 500, originally released on 12" by Metroplex in 1995. Includes 9 new remixes specially commissioned by Echospace. This classic masterpiece was originally engineered by Basic Channel's Moritz von Oswald and recorded at the Basic Channel studio in Berlin sometime in 1993-1994. Upon release, this track quickly became a cult favorite from Derrick May to Derrick Carter, and infected house, techno, ambient and even dub DJs alike. A song so powerful, it led to a change in techno music forever and was a shining example of what Detroit was all about: innovation. Juan Atkins was the first person to apply the word "techno" to music. He found new ways of making sound, and in so doing, he influenced nearly every genre of music in the 1980s and beyond. Yet his name is not well- known beyond the world of electronic dance music. He might, in fact, be one of the most obscure of modern music's true pioneers. This CD has been mixed together seamlessly for an uninterrupted listening excursion through the many shapes and forms of this song's incarnations. First, we offer the remastered original from Ron "Motown" Murphy, who spent countless hours restoring this treasure from 1/4" tapes. Then we find ourselves captivated in the pure, refined deepness of Deepchord's towering menace of space and bass. Echospace manage to give Juan's original just enough percussion flare, with wave frequencies rushing through a field of delay which spin around your head. This leads into a widescreen electro rendition from Soultek, and Convextion serves up some Kompakt-ish schaffel grooves, but with a hypnotic Detroit effect. Mike Huckaby makes good use of the Waldorf Wave before we enter ambient territory from Echospace who combine daring production techniques with vibrant forms of texture and color. Sean Deason presents a stomping killer with devastatingly beautiful synthesized notes and a sweet 909, and Phase90 presents breathtaking pads and a slow motion effect so powerful, it could only be compared to the works of Thomas Köner or Wolfgang Voigt's Gas project -- this is love in lo-fi. Finally, Intrusion takes it out with a dubbed-out, dreamy ambient voyage.

Artist: VAN WEY, BROCK
Title: White Clouds Drift On And On
Label: ECHOSPACE
Format: 2CD
Price: $18.50
Catalog #: ECHOSPACE AIR1
2011 repress, originally released 2009. San Francisco's Brock Van Wey (also known as bvdub) has been spreading his ambient-textured deep techno to the world for the past few years with releases on Styrax, Millions Of Moments, Southern Outpost, Meanwhile, and his very own Quietus imprint. His love of abstract shapes and forms of electronic music caught the echospace label's attention -- so much in fact, that Stephen Hitchell (Intrusion, Echospace) has made his own interpretive versions as an additional album, included along with the original. This is a soundscape of subtle beauty which paints a picture of lands yet to be explored, a sonic collage filled with heartbreak, love and happiness, all played in the same key. A pure, refined sonic collage, filled with influences that could easily be said to border the surface of works by Steve Roach, Gas, Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Brian Eno, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, John Cage, or even the ambient works of Basic Channel, and yet, this still has an identity all its own. Beautiful layers of sound rush over you like waves in the ocean, a tidal wave of organics and textures so subtle, soft and virtually hypnotizing. There is a sense of space felt here which cannot be described in words, a sense of displacement which takes the listener out of their normal environment and away to someplace else. These spare musical fragments voyage off into the land of dreams, a place where everything appears to move in slow motion and hours feel like seconds. Simplicity in its own world is the most beautiful of things, an art of restraint -- not to do too much but to do everything at the same time, which is exactly what Brock has perfected here. This is an absolutely gorgeous gem of the highest caliber and one that the folks at echospace consider an integral part of any ambient or electronic music lover's collection.

Artist: VARIANT
Title: The Setting Sun
Label: ECHOSPACE
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: ECHOSPACE AIR2
Stephen Hitchell (Intrusion, cv313) delivers a serious treat for his legion of devoted followers with the next logical step in the Echospace saga leading to this release exploring sublime ambient electronics in a textured, analog style. As Variant, Hitchell delves into his most expansive and inspiring palette, layering materials onto his canvas with a widescreen scope and an emotionally-affected, cinematic intent that makes this a deeply engrossing listen. Made for an obviously specific time and place, "The Setting Sun" marks a shift in Hitchell's work, sounding more like Oren Ambarchi or Keith Fullerton Whitman than any of the more familiar names his work has been associated with in the past. Incorporating resonant pianos, hazily thrummed guitars and swelling organs with rippling waves of curling analog distortion, this is surely one of the most outstanding pieces in his catalog. "As Time Stood Still" features a deeply-padded flow of ebbing atmospherics, lapping every intangible surface of the womb-like sub-bass-bubble that Hitchell creates with a concoction of vintage analog hardware and reel-to-reel recording techniques. All taken together, The Setting Sun sounds like the slow inhalation and exhalation of deep, meditative breathing, or like rain falling from a grey sky. This is a hugely involving listen that will appeal to followers of Tim Hecker AND Basic Channel, or Vladislav Delay AND Oren Ambarchi.

Artist: INTRUSION
Title: The Seduction Of Silence
Label: ECHOSPACE
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: INTRUSION 002EP
The title track "Seduction" is an epic beauty as deep as the sea. The bass line reminds of King Tubby or Lee Perry in structure but with the depth of Basic Channel or Rhythm & Sound. The song reveals magical analog frequencies with shards of dub skanks and blissful chords that you will get lost in. "Silence" leads into a succinct ambient piece and cv313 provides a near 12-minute mix of "Seduction." A spiritual journey of the space, bass and analog warmth we've come to love from the Echospace/Deepchord signature.

Title: Lo-Fi Soundsystem
Label: ECHOSPACE
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: INTRUSION 004EP
Echospace presents a killer selection of steppa's riddims and tropical grooves. Intrusion's "Velocity In A Minor" is all about being playful with a sequence and splicing. Lo-Fi Soundsystem makes their first 12" appearance on Intrusion with a track given a second lease on life from its scarce 45 release. A mystical midnight groove reworked by Stephen Hitchell. Mildiou crosses into territory comparable to Intrusion's "Tswana Dub" or the atmospheric dub side of Rhythm & Sound, and "Oceanview" paints a picture of oceanic vapor haze.

Artist: STL
