Title: Zero Hour
Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: GET 110
"This full-length LP, recorded live at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco on June 13, 1979, is one of the last surviving recordings of one of the greatest punk bands to ever walk the earth. Just ten days after this amazing performance, which along with impassioned versions of some of the band's more notorious songs: 'The American In Me' and 'Corpus Christi', also includes three songs that have never been officially released 'Misery' (AKA 'Finger On The Trigger'), 'Zero Hour' and 'Time To Die', the Avengers were no more. Leaving 20 years of dust to collect on these tapes before they were finally discovered by our treasure hunters here at Get Back. Finally available for the first time ever with new liner notes by Avengers front woman and punk legend Penelope Houston."

Title: Beach Blvd.
Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: CD
Price: $16.50
Catalog #: GET 114CD
In order to cash in on the great popularity of a current TV show, the infamous Posh Boy hooks up with Get Back to remind you about an album that should have been so much easier to forget. Does contain a second-rate version of "Meat House" (immortalized by Negative Trend one year earlier), so one point for that. "No album captured the early Orange County, California punk sound like the Posh Boy label's 1979 historic Beach Blvd compilation. Featuring bands like the Simpletones, The Crowd and Rick L Rick (F-WORD!)."

Title: Like It Or Not (Live!)
Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: CD
Price: $16.50
Catalog #: GET 117CD
"F-WORD were the first L.A. punk band to release an album. Their 1978 debut was also their only record, since they disbanded when Dutch Schultz/Will Shatter (bass) and Steve EffeteDePace (drums) formed Flipper. Singer Rik L. Rik went on to SoCal punk rock notoriety. Trademark Posh Boy sound for these pioneers of Californian fast pop punk."

Title: Illusions of Grandeur
Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: GET 118
"Another little gem rescued by our punk rock task force from the oblivion, U.X.A (acronym for United Experiments Of America) were an essential part of the Posh Boy West Coast punk revolutionary army. Led by the interesting and uncommon vocals of De De Troit, U.X.A. contributed to establishing female vocal punk bands (Avengers, X) in the genre and also gave the typical pop punk sound a chance to expand the visual of new rock. This reissue features the original 10-track pre-release edition of the album as it was originally conceived."

Artist: POP, IGGY
Title: Zombie Birdhouse
Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: GET 126
"1982's Zombie Birdhouse sees Iggy stepping out of a swampy contract with Arista that led his fans to believe he had turned into a VH1-like pop star, a sort of caricatured rock shaman. The new album on IRS, produced by Chris Stein of Blondie fame, revitalized the career of a true stage animal who had been on the verge of losing his knack and who, despite some lack of focus in this new path, reconciled with his fans with this genuine punk-new wave record. This reissue also includes 'Pain and Suffering', a bonus track from the recording sessions which was not used in the original album but is known for being part of the Canadian fantasy feature Rock And Rule together with tracks by Blondie and Lou Reed."

Artist: FOXX, JOHN
Title: The Garden
Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: GET 135LP
"Former Ultravox vocalist and frontman who left the act after three incredible albums, John Foxx went on to a solo career releasing his first self-produced album -- the electronic Metamatic (1980) -- in which synthetic atmospheres lulled his metallic futuristic voice. Foxx's second album The Garden (1981) reveals a true genius of the so-called New Wave, already set for the musical revolution of the early eighties. Unlike his solo debut, The Garden is not a pure act of experimentation but tries to collect many influences such as The Velvet Underground, Roxy Music and various apparently incommensurable legacies, tied together by Foxx's majestic lyricism and voice."

Title: Gimme Some Skin
Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: CD
Price: $18.00
Catalog #: GET 160CD
"This compilation of rarities is not just any 'from the vaults' collection. What we give you here are a few true moments of greatness. Just when you thought you knew all there was to know about The Stooges, these 11 raw, pulsating tracks, not found on any of the original Stooges albums, are sure to satisfy both the hardcore fan and the novice. Compiled by Pat Thomas." It's always nice to hear "Open Up And Bleep" with the customary tape warble, but surely Get Back/Abraxas could afford a box of crayons to scribble down some basic info like dates, times, recording info, musician or songwriting credits? And, as has been pointed out elsewhere, where is "Cock In My Pocket"? Get Back, bringing the true spirit of "WTF" to shameless compilation work, for over a decade now...

As w/ the prior LP version, the description below might suggest this is some kind of "greatest hits", but there is no information as to the origination of the tracks. It's bootleg-crackle live material from some unknown date, with un-credited backing, shamelessly packaged. Buying this CD is like talking to your dad about how to unclog a drain. "After the Stooges fizzled away into commercial oblivion (as so many legendary bands of the era did), David Bowie saved our heavenly father of punk rock from obscurity, and jumpstarted his solo career. Don't miss this perfectly weeded garden of Iggy's most prized petunias. In other words, buy this if you want to hear Iggy rip through 13 of his most classic tracks."

"Although, due to his tragically premature death in 1964, his own recording career lasted just four short years, he is remembered as one of the most pioneering multi-instrumentalists of the period, collaborating extensively with Coltrane and Mingus. Conversations, recorded in the spring of 1963 under the supervision of Alan Douglas, is one of the key works of his career. Original artwork."

Artist: HARRIS, EDDIE
Title: Theme from Exodus and Other Film Spectaculars
Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: GET 2026
"Born in Chicago in 1934, Eddie Harris gained popular success for his 1961 jazz adaptation of Ernest Gold's theme to the feature motion picture Exodus, for which he became the first jazz musician to release a gold-selling record, the acclaimed Exodus To Jazz. Strongly criticized by purists for his commercially successful take on jazz he responded with a series of albums that crowned him the king of electric Varitone sax the most important of which was 1967's The Electrifying Eddie Harris. This LP presents a series of film themes revisited by this genius of pop jazz which include the above mentioned 'Exodus' and some immortal flick tunes like 'Moon River', 'Spartacus' and 'Gone With The Wind'."

Previously issued on LP on the Unique Jazz label under the title European Concert; believe this is the first time on CD. "Recorded live in Berlin in 1971, this set features Charlie Haden on bass, the prominent solos of Dewey Redman on tenor, and Ed Blackwell's delightful drumming. But the real stars are the compositions themselves, which are wonderful vehicles for inspired improvisation. Coleman picks up his bandmate's lines as if in mid-thought and extends them seamlessly."

Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: CD
Price: $16.50
Catalog #: GET 2030CD
"One of the most important figures in American jazz, Charles Mingus spent most of his career at the forefront of the avant-garde. This album, recorded in 1972 in Berlin with a superlative Cat Anderson on trumpet during a period of extensive touring, was made during a very productive time in Mingus' life. He had spent the previous year teaching music and his autobiography Beneath The Underdog had just been published. In 1972, he also re-signed with Columbia Records and his music was now performed frequently by ballet companies, including Alvin Ailey, who choreographed 'The Mingus Dances' during a 1972 collaboration with the Robert Joffrey Ballet Company. Mingus continued playing music and touring until 1977 when he was diagnosed with a rare nerve disease, Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis. He died two years later, in 1979, at the age of 56. Featuring Joseph Gardner (trumpet), Hamiet Bluett (reeds), John Forster (piano), Roy Brooks (drums) and Cat Anderson (trumpet)."

"When pianist Bill Evans arrived on the jazz scene in the late '50s, his unusually quiet and introspective style of playing made him an anomaly in his field. He has since become one of the most influential jazz pianists of all time and is credited with having revolutionized the dynamics of the jazz trio. This unique album comes from a prolific period in Evans' career and gives fans a glimpse at two significant Evans-led trios. Side B was recorded in France in February 1965 and features Chuck Israel on bass and Larry Bunker on drums while side A was recorded at the Pescara Festival in Italy in 1969 and features Eddie Gomez on bass and Marty Morell on drums."

"Stan Getz is considered one of the greatest tenor saxophone players of all time, known as 'The Sound' because of his warm, lyrical tone. In 1961, after a period abroad, Getz returned to the USA and soon became a central figure in bossa nova. In 1962, Getz recorded the hit record Jazz Samba, with Charlie Byrd who had just returned from a tour of Brazil. Getz also won a Grammy for 'Best Jazz Performance' in 1963. He then recorded 'The Girl from Ipanema' with Jobim, João Gilberto and Astrud Gilberto and not only did it win him another Grammy, but it also became one of the best-known Latin jazz pieces ever recorded. Side A of this album was recorded shortly after Getz's return to the USA, at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1961, and features Steve Kuhn on piano, Scott LaFaro on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums, while side B was recorded live in Berlin in 1966, and features Gary Burton on vibraphone, Chuck Israel on bass and Roy Haynes on drums."

This is Coltrane and his 'classic quartet,' one of the most famous jazz quartets of all time, featuring jazz all-stars McCoy Tyner (piano), Jimmy Garrison (bass) and Elvin Jones (drums). This is the same line-up that would go on to record the seminal A Love Supreme, just two years later. Coltrane can be heard here expanding his improvisations and reworking Trane standards like 'Impressions' and 'The Inch Worm,' a modal piece in the style of 'My Favorite Things,' as well as his very personal interpretation of Cole Porter's classic ballad 'Everytime We Say Goodbye.'"

"This amazing album collects some of the best sessions from the height of the European 'season of jazz' -- when many of the best American jazzmen sought and found refuge and comfort in the smoky dark venues of existentialist Mitteleuropa, away from the high tension of the violent civil rights battles raging back home. Recorded between 1963 and 1966, these live gigs -- performed by the Sonny Rollins/Don Cherry Quartet (Paris, January, 1963); the Sonny Rollins quintet with members of the Modern Jazz Quartet (Berlin, Oct. 30, 1965); and the Sonny Rollins trio (Graz, Austria, Nov. 12, 1966) -- showcase the magnificent sounds that made Rollins one of the top horn players of his day and one of the most interesting, prolific and long-lasting jazz icons of all time."

"Charles Mingus was not only a bass virtuoso, but probably the greatest bass playing leader the world has ever known. Although strongly influenced by Duke Ellington in his early years, he was a true pioneer in jazz, and by the '50s, was at the avant-garde of the jazz world where he was soon playing alongside Charlie Parker, Bud Powell and Duke Ellington himself. By 1964, when this live album was recorded, Mingus was at his most creative and prolific, releasing over 30 albums over the course of the decade. Soon after the release of his sprawling masterpiece, The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, called 'one of the greatest achievements in orchestration by any composer in jazz history,' Mingus put together one of his most influential ensembles, a sextet featuring Johnny Coles, Eric Dolphy, Clifford Jordan, Jaki Byard and Danny Richmond and undertook an extensive European tour. This tour, although marked by great live recordings such as this one in Stuttgart, was also unfortunately marred by tragedy as Coles fell ill and Dolphy died while in Berlin just two months later."

Title: You Can Be Anyone This Time Around
Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: GET 423
"For a long time a hard to find collectable record, this historical spoken word album by LSD prophet Timothy Leary has now finally been reissued. Leary's raps and monologues, structured on an intersections of famous tunes of the time (the album was originally released in 1970 on Douglas) might sound outdated today and too linked to a specific weltanschauung that was the basis of Leary's modern age philosophy. But this is probably the reason why You Can Be Anyone This Time Around retains its interest in current times: it's the original, uncut, uncensored vision of a sharp thinker who has been often easily scorned for his extreme takes on drug use. Musically speaking, side B 'Live and Let Live,' offers an unforgettable jam session in the background with Stephen Stills, John Sebastian, Buddy Miles and Jimi Hendrix on bass."

However you want to file Leonard Alfred Schneider, he will always be dodging the feeling that you can classify him. Label: GET BACK (ITALY)

Price: $20.00
Catalog #: GET 5102
"2nd album originally released in 1974 for the massively influential Italian progressive group (lead by Demetrio Stratos) that with 'Caution Radiation Area' added increasing levels of fringe experimentation to their already weird recipe. Stratos' vocal comes off throughout as one-third Pavarotti, one-third haunted house, and one-third Diamanda Galas' long-lost brother. Primitive drums and electronics, intense dustbowl jams, ARP synthesizers, a blizzard of speaking voices, Fender Rhodes solos, wavering Middle Eastern hummingbird and modes, ghostly voices morphing into tortured cries. Original artwork. 180 gram HQ vinyl."

"Their fourth album (originally released in 1975 on Cramps) was a live recorded uncompromising blend of jazz-rock, ethnic folk, experimentation and political philosophies. The Area's unique sound combined the punch of rock and the frightening chaos of experimental music. The 'International POPular Group' was a fascinating band. This album contains one song from each of their previous records plus a 15-minute jam (the title song) and a free-jazz interpretation of 'L'Internazionale'. Original artwork. 2011 repress of this legendary album, originally reissued on Get Back in 1998. Housed in a gatefold sleeve. "The first LP is rock music only by association. Taking British folk as a point of departure, the music twists and oozes as a vile bunch of snakes, pairing gorgeous melodies and expert playing to ecstatically altered vocals and vicious lyrics. Rape, murder, witchcraft and abuse are main ingredients to the menu, which is cooked with raging madness, but still manages to taste delicately composed. One of the very first British folk albums that creates a totally new, dangerous and utterly unique atmosphere." -- Marcel Koopman. The second disc in this Get Back reissue is a 12" EP with 3 bonus tracks from their 1971 7" on Down Records featuring "Diana" (single version) and 2 non-album tracks. The classic weird-folk British album from 1970, infamous for its influence on Current 93 and countless others.

Staying mostly to the 'primitive rock' side of the great hippie divide, they released their debut album in 1966, followed by Web Of Sounds that same year. The band did eventually succumb to the inebriating perfume of flower power, but that ultimately proved to be their demise, unravelling in the face of the dawning of a darker era. "1971, the year this Peruvian band released their first LP, was one of turmoil for Peru. The country was three years into the rigid Velasco regime, whose left-wing policies were an attempt at a kind of Soviet-style communism that included the silencing of the media and an attempted ban on the import of rock music. Throughout the late '60s and early '70s rock concerts were often cancelled and the import of all 'Yankee' music was blocked. But no government policy could completely stop the tidal wave of American and British music flooding the market and bands like Black Sugar (originally called Los Far Fen, because they had a Farfisa organ and Fender amps) were all ears. Though devout children of the international rock scene, their first LP, released on the Peruvian label Sono Radio, definitely drips with the funky Peruvian rhythms heard on original tracks like the hit 'Viajecito' and 'Too Late.' Despite the desperate Peruvian economic situation, this album sold all over South America and was even re-released by an American label located in Miami. Excellent guitar and keyboards also define this album along with the talents of Latin percussion king Coco Lagos. Don't miss it!"

Compiled by Pat Thomas. Side A: Tracks 1, 2 & 6: "Child Star," "Sleepy Maurice," and "Highways" were all recorded the morning after their first-ever session on Peel's Radio One 'Top Gear' show in November 1967 in 'Sounds Techniques Studio' in Chelsea, two of which remained unreleased during Bolan's lifetime. Track 3: "Deep Summer" was recorded during the initial sessions for the 'Beard Of Stars' album, in December 1969. One of the three instrumental tracks recorded during Bolan's new found enthusiasm for electric guitar. Tracks 4 & 7: "Demon Queen" and "Pilgrim's Tale" are unreleased Unicorn outtakes. Track 5: "One Inch Rock" was recorded at a session at 'Trident' in July 1968. Side B: Track 1: "Rings of Fortune," an early song, originally played in acetate format on John Peel's Perfumed Garden show in Aug 1967. Tracks 2, 3 & 4: "Wind Quartets," "Mustang Ford" and "Conesuela" were recorded in 1969 at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall (Jan 13) and Lyceum Ballroom (April 11). Although lacking in sound quality, these concert performances give fascinating insight into how the duo sounded with a totally live environment. Of the "Queen Elizabeth Hall performance, Chris Welch of Melody Maker said, "Marc Bolan sat on the floor in a black vest and sang with fervor strumming a competent, if not exactly advanced guitar... Steve Peregrine Took juggled with a rare selection of African talking drums, pixie phones and bongos." Tracks 5 & 6: "For the Lion and the Unicorn/Hot Rod Mama," and "Misty Coast of Albany," were recorded during the band's American tour during the summer of 1969, the final Tyrannosaurus Rex tour to feature Steve Took. These tracks are taken from an August 16th gig played at the Café Au Go Go in NYC."

The track listing goes all the way back to the band's first singles (1978's Pinheads On The Move and 1979's No Tears), to a time when Tuxedomoon was in the habit of leading the avant-garde on both American coasts: from San Francisco's post-punk scene and NY's no wave. Soon after the release of 1981's Desire, having tired of 'California über alles' and Ronald Reagan, the band decided to leave the States for the more experimental pastures of Northern Europe. During this time the band released a series of discs on the Belgian-based Cramboy, proving themselves equally able to blaze trails in Europe as well. From this period came some of their most successful albums to date, including 1985's Holy Wars from which we have 'In A Manner of Speaking' and 1986's Ship Of Fools from which we hear 'Reedin' Rightin' Rhythmatic.' Right around the time of this album's release, Tuxedomoon went on a 15-year recording hiatus. Line-up includes: Blaine Reininger, Bruce Geduldig, Ivan Georgiev, Luc Van Lieshout, Paul Zahl, Peter Principle, Steven Brown, Winston Tong." Full color printed inner sleeves.

Format: LP
Price: $27.00
Catalog #: GET 717LP
"Set in 1968's Swinging London, Escalation, was the debut film of then 25-year-old director Roberto Faenza. True to his youth, Faenza's dark comedy dealt with the war being waged between armies of bourgeois parents and their hippy offspring. The tale of Luca, the ne'er-do-well son of a wealthy Italian industrialist, and his father's attempt to use any means necessary to bring him home to Italy and make him take his rightful place at the helm of the family empire (even if it means destroying him). Ennio Morricone's unique ability to use music to express the inner psyche of his films' protagonists is what makes his scores so unique. Here Morricone teams up with fellow composer Bruno Nicolai and the vocalizations of Alessandro Alessandroni's 'Cantori Moderni', making this one of his less minimal soundtracks, as both an orchestra and a choir is used. In 1968 Morricone was at the height of his career, scoring not only Sergio Leone's classic Once Upon a Time in the West, but also, unbelievably, more than 20 other films! Innersleeve features poster of the film."

"One of the most significant bands to rise out of the Krautrock scene of the 1970s, the Munich-based musical collective Embryo has been led through the decades by multi-instrumentalist Christian Burchard. Although the group's sound has since become synonymous with world music, their second LP, 1971's Embryo's Rache (Embryo's Revenge) still found the band in acid jazz/prog territory, with some nice Hammond, mellotron playing by American expat Jimmy Jackson (Ray Charles and Amon Duul II), here billed as 'Tabarin Man,' but the world music influences were already beginning to come to the fore, with heavy African percussion and eastern flute played by Xhol Caravan member Hansi Fischer, giving it a very different over all sound from their debut of the previous year, Opal. This version contains the bonus track 'Back To Africa.'" Gatefold sleeve.

Title: The Electric Spanking Of War Babies
Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: GET 8023
"With George Clinton, a humorous phrase could be nothing more than playful tomfoolery, or it could be a double entendre with a deep political meaning. The phrase 'electric spanking of war babies' falls into the latter category -- it referred to what the funk innovator saw as the U.S. government using the media to promote imperialistic wars. To Clinton, the American media functioned as a propaganda machine during wartime. But whether or not one cares to examine its hidden political messages, Electric Spanking is an above-average party album. Spanking falls short of the excellence of One Nation Under a Groove and Uncle Jam Wants You and didn't boast a major hit single, but amusing funk smokers like 'Electro-Cuties' and 'Funk Gets Stronger' aren't anything to sneeze at, nor is the reggae-influenced 'Shockwaves'. Spanking turned out to be the last album Clinton would produce under the name Funkadelic -- when he hit the charts again in 1983, Mr. P-Funk was billing himself as a 'solo artist'." Original artwork. 180 gram vinyl.

"Al Green has often been called the last great soul man, and when you hear the first few bars of 'Let's Stay Together' (his first number one hit), you know that it's true. But while on par in talent with soul legends like James Brown and Otis Redding, Green stands alone as a pioneer in soul music, single-handedly reviving the genre in the early seventies with a mind-boggling vocal style that had never been heard before and, while many have tried to follow in his footsteps, hasn't been heard since. Don't miss this essential reissue with original artwork on high quality 180 gram vinyl."

Triple LP version. "These tracks (recorded live around the world with the P-Funk All Stars are all well known selections from the vast P-Funk repertoire, but here they take on new form as Dr. Funkenstein uses his powers to deftly mold them into 15 extended party jams. Never one to rest on his laurels, Clinton keeps the P-Funk torch burning brightly with new funkier versions of old classics like 'Maggot Brain', 'Give Up The Funk' and all time P-Funk anthem 'Make My Funk The P-Funk'. Clinton and his funk mob have lost none of their musical prowess in the past few decades and still have absolutely no trouble delivering all 500,000 kilowatts of p-funk power."

Title: Soul Country
Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: GET 8041
"During his short life ended abruptly by a heart attack in 1982 (he was just 49) Joe Tex had a glittering career, hitting the charts with numerous singles throughout multiple phases of Black American music. His repertoire includes doo wop, soul, r'n'b, funk, pre-disco, and last but not least, his personal view of conjugating soul and country music. His Texan roots and his capability of mastering soul music in all forms created a well blended genre that is immediately recognizable as his own. 1968 Soul Country is mostly an album of covers that hinges on the magic of mixing two cultures, two roots not so distant in their popular approach."

Label: GET BACK (ITALY)
Format: LP

"The follow up to Green Is Blues, Gets Next To You is the definitive masterpiece by the Mitchell-Green LTD. Improving on the characterization of the trademark HI sound, Willie Mitchell's decision to switch from the gritty syncopations of deep Southern soul to a slower and more seductive base supports an Al Green probably at his best. There are no false steps here, since every single track on the album is a pillar of the genre, from the opening massive cover version of the Temptations' 'I Can't Get Next To You', which is reinvented with a lethal dose of irresistible groove, to the perfect 1-2 pitch of 'Tired Of Being Alone' followed by 'I'm A Ram'."

"With this double set of releases, 1975 marked the apex in the career of one of R&B's most prolific artists. Often referred to as the last of the truly great soul singers, he owes no small part of his success to producer and creative mastermind Willie Mitchell. Greatest Hits epitomizes the trademark sound of the devastating duo, with ten of R&B music's all-time gems, while Al Green Is Love, released later in the year, offers up the 'dark side' of Al Green in a very introspective collection, unusually melancholic for some, but definitely a big step towards Green's artistic maturity. Format: LP
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: GET 8062LP
"Although Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfá's soundtrack to the classic Brazilian film Black Orpheus sold millions of copies when it was released in 1959, the original score, written by Jobim, with performances by Bonfá, has remained a relatively well-kept secret. The internationally-acclaimed film Black Orpheus began life as an award-winning play by the well-known Brazilian playwright and lyricist, Vinicius de Moraes, who in 1956 asked a then-unknown piano player, Antonio Carlos Jobim, to write the score. Jobim then enlisted the talents of an equally unknown Luiz Bonfá to play guitar on all the tracks. The resulting score, found on side A of this LP, soon sent both Jobim and Bonfá (also credited with starting the bossa nova movement) on their way to becoming international stars. Side B of this LP is a sample of Jobim and Bonfá's other work from that same critical year, 1956. These tracks also feature the vocals of the top Brazilian singer of the '50s, Sylvia Telles, as well as performances by talented bass player, Ed Lincoln. A cornerstone of Brazilian musical history!"
