Artist: SIR WARRIOR & HIS ORIGINAL BROTHERS INTERNATIONAL BAND
Title: Onye Obula Zoba Isi Onweya
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 302LP
"This 1981 album epitomizes the incredible career of a prodigy, who started at age 11 as a member of an Ese ensemble, a traditional Nigerian form of choral music, and has since excelled in many of the varied forms of African music. The most distinctive genre created by Sir Warrior (born Ezebuiro Obinna) is the one known as Nigerian 'high-life' music, a modernization of Ghanian high-life obtained by combining elements of tradition with a modern musical approach. In Warrior's case incredibly gifted guitar playing combined with lyrics deriving from traditional Igbo proverbs made him a pop icon and superstar, with hundreds of hits and dozens of best selling records all over Africa."

Artist: CHIEF BRIGADIER OLU ONI & HIS MARATHON SYSTEM
Title: Juju Marathon System Vol. 1
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 304LP
"A traditional form of Nigerian popular music, Juju spreads from the ancient Yoruba percussion style and its first recordings can be dated back to the 1920s. Taking its name from the shamanic rituals of the southwestern regions, Juju evolved into a very popular musical genre in the '60s and '70s when artists of the caliber of King Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey (aka Chief Commander) took it to a new apex, blending traditional instruments -- like the talking drum with elements of western music, such as the guitar. Chief Brigadier Olu Oni adds to this extremely popular genre a hint of international elements, and this record has brought Juju beyond West Africa and into the rest of the world."

Artist: MBARGA & ROCAFIL JAZZ INTERNATIONAL, PRINCE NICO
Title: Cool Money
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 305LP
"Prince Nico Mbarga (1950-1997) was a half-Cameroonian Nigerian highlife vocalist and guitarist whose music played a significant role in the evolution of African pop music. His 1976 hit song 'Sweet Mother' (which sold more than 13 million copies) is so popular that is sometimes called 'Africa's anthem', no small feat for a continent with such a rich musical tradition! Like many, Prince Nico began playing with a hotel band in 1970, and by 1973 had his first local hit. Cool Money is a rare 1979 album, originally released on the Nigerian RAS (Roger's All Stars) label, when the artist was at the height of his success. Prince Nico was unfortunately killed in 1997 in a motorcycle accident, which of course, has only added to his legend."

Artist: CARRION, GUSTAVO CESAR
Title: El Vampiro/El Ataúd Del Vampiro
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 306LP
"Gustavo César Carrión's soundtracks to the classic Mexican horror films El Vampiro (1957) and its sequel El Ataúd Del Vampiro (The Vampire's Coffin) (1957), both directed by Fernando Méndez and produced by Abel Salazar's famed Cinematografica ABSA, which inspired by Salazar's love for the Universal horror films of the '30s and '40s, produced 8 horror films from 1957-1964. Salazar was so involved in these projects that he actually plays the role of the doctor in both El Vampiro and the sequel! Black and white gothic gems with swirling fog, dark externals, campy effects, rubber bats, and believe it or not, the first vampire to ever sport fangs on film (played by Germán Robles)! Called a 'masterpiece' by many fans of classic horror, and listed as one of the Top 100 Mexican Films of all time, El Vampiro is definitely a cult flick worth rediscovery, thanks in no small part to Carrión's dark and foreboding soundtrack. El Vampiro and El Ataúd Del Vampiro can also be considered direct precursors to the well-known Christopher Lee movies from Hammer."

Artist: BARRISTER AND HIS SUPREME FUJI COMMANDERS, ALHAJI (CHIEF) SIKIRU AYINDE
Title: Iwa
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 307LP
"Classic Nigerian fuji music, originally released in 1982 on the Lagos-based Siky Oluyole label. Sikiru Ayinde, better known by his stage name 'Alhaji Chief Doctor Sikiru Ayinde Barrister,' born in Lagos in 1948, is one of the creators of fuji music, and still a leader in the field. The genre, named by Ayinde after Mt. Fuji in Japan (simply because he liked the sound of the word), was developed in the early seventies when Ayinde, who had sung traditional Muslim music since he was a boy, put together a 25-piece band called the Supreme Fuji Commanders. Fuji is a percussion-heavy dance music with the free vocals of Muslim ajisari music (sung during Ramadan) accompanied by Hawaiian guitar and the sakara (a tambourine drum), and often featuring upwards of 10 percussionists. It is a mixture of were, juju, apala, and traditional Yoruban praise poems. Ayinde is one of Nigeria's best known singer/songwriters and was one of the first to take the fuji genre outside of Africa, touring all over Europe, especially in the UK, long before any other fuji musician."

Artist: MARTIN, BILLY
Title: Strawberry Soul
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 308LP
"Originally released in 1970 on Montreal's Trans-World label, Strawberry Soul is a rare and amazing instrumental deep funk album released by African-American ex-pat trumpeter Billy Martin. Martin also released an album called I Turn You On on Onion Records where his hit 'Funky Feelin' also appeared. He was a local star on the Canadian R&B scene for a while, but disappeared without a trace after this amazing release."

Artist: DEMIAN
Title: Demian
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 309LP
"One of the bands that helped build the great Austin, TX music scene (the 'live music capital of the world'), Demian was actually Bubble Puppy with a new name and sound. While Bubble Puppy was classic psychedelia, Demian was hard rock in the vein of bands like Atomic Rooster. Recorded live-in-studio at L.A.'s legendary Record Plant studio in 1970, Demian was also one of the first bands to feature dueling lead guitars. Despite the high quality of the songs and the local buzz this album generated at the time, due to mismanagement, Demian soon faded into the record collecting beyond."

Artist: MOLOCH
Title: Moloch
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 310LP
"Formed in Memphis in 1968 by blues guitar legend Lee Baker. Upon hearing Baker play, Jimmy Page is said to have commented, 'that's the best white bluesman I ever heard!' Produced, written and arranged by Don Nix (Mar-Keys and Paris Pilot) at Memphis' Ardent Studios, Moloch's 1970 debut album was an excellent mix of hard blues and acid rock, with amazing guitar solos by Baker. It was also the first time the song 'Goin' Down' appeared on record (famously covered by Jeff Beck). Although Moloch definitely had the chops to make it big (apparently Freddie King covered a few of the band's songs and would hang out and jam with Baker whenever he was in town), they lacked distribution. The band also got panned in Rolling Stone magazine, but Rolling Stone also panned Led Zeppelin's first albums, so..."

Artist: SUN RA & THE BLUES PROJECT
Title: The Sensational Guitars Of Dan & Dale: Batman And Robin
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 311LP
"This novelty album, released in 1966 during the height of the Batman & Robin craze, was initially credited to the 'The Sensational Guitars of Dan and Dale' and featured an album full of tracks based on the popular TV show like 'The Batman Theme Song', 'The Penguin Chase', and 'The Batcave'. The album is entirely instrumental, except for someone singing 'Batmaaaan!' in the theme song. But the interesting thing about this album, and what makes it an absolute cult gem, are the musicians who are behind it all: basically a joint collaboration between Sun Ra's Arkestra and Danny Kalb's Blues Project (one of the first psychedelic rock bands as well as one of the world's first jam bands). 'Dan and Dale' were actually blues guitarist Danny Kalb and Steve Katz (later of Blood, Sweat & Tears) on dueling guitars, while Sun Ra and Al Kooper take over organ duties (a Hammond B-3) and members of Ra's Arkestra play sax. All I can think of when listening to this record is how much fun these guys, all formidable musicians, must have had putting it together." Gatefold sleeve.

Artist: JOSEFUS
Title: Dead Man
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 312LP
"One of the great lost albums of Southern hard rock, Dead Man was the 1970 debut album of the Houston band, Josefus. Formed in 1969, Josefus soon garnered a huge live following, opening for acts like ZZ Top and Grand Funk Railroad. Unfortunately, their debut album, a heavy mix of Zeppelin-inspired acid rock with a Southern twist, was destined to obscurity, due largely to the fact that it was not released on a proper label (the band actually paid to have the album pressed and released on their own 'Hookah' label). Just a few months prior to recording Dead Man, however, Josefus had actually recorded an album's worth of material for a producer in Phoenix, but the album was never released. This is what prompted the band to go back into the studio with their own money to record Dead Man. Dead Man was, therefore naturally, a mix of some of the songs from this earlier album (tentatively called: Get Off My Case) along with some new ones. Actually only three tracks from Get Off My Case did not make it onto Dead Man ('Get Off My Case', 'A Social Song' and 'Fealin' Good'), but these have been restored here as bonus tracks, so what you are actually getting is the complete track listing from the two albums."

Artist: LEGEND, THE
Title: The Legend
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 313LP
"Formed in California in the late sixties, this obscure band was signed for a one-off deal with the small Encino-based Megaphone label -- for whom they produced this eponymous album in 1968 -- then disappeared without a trace, although according to some sources The Legend morphed into the equally obscure Dragonfly, also on Megaphone. Serving up a mix of poppy psych originals and a handful of inspired covers (including The Who's 'The Kids Are Alright', The Troggs' 'With A Girl Like You', and Bob Dylan's 'Baby Blue') this album is a rare slice of early, surprisingly radio-friendly, Southern Californian psychedelia."

Artist: THEM
Title: Them
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 314LP
"Originally released in 1970 on the Los Angeles-based psychedelic label, Happy Tiger, Them was the band's first release since Van Morrison's departure in 1965. After a few years spent floundering, the band regrouped under the leadership of founding member Alan Henderson to produce this brilliant psychedelic-tinged album. Morrison's replacement was none other than the king of session men, Jerry Cole. Cole was quite a catch for the band considering his lengthy resume, which included recording with The Byrds on 'Mr. Tambourine Man,' The Beach Boys on Pet Sounds, and Nancy Sinatra on 'These Boots Are Made For Walking,' to name just a few. He was also one of the best bandleaders in the business, leading bands on the top television music shows of the day, Hullabaloo and Shindig, among others. On top of all this, Cole was also a songwriter, and here contributes the opening tracks to both sides A and B, 'I Keep Singing' and 'Memphis Lady.' Unfortunately this renaissance of the band failed to produce any hits, and they soon faded into history, leaving fans with little knowledge of this great, if little-known, second era of Them."

Artist: ARZACHEL
Title: Arzachel
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 315LP
"One of the great lost albums of British psychedelia, original copies of Arzachel's 1969 self-titled debut fetch huge sums on the collectors' market and it is not difficult to understand why. Originally released in 1969 on the small Evolution label, this album quite simply contains some of the best psych to ever come out of the UK. However, like so many other great albums of the era, it soon dropped entirely from the radar due to bad promotion. In fact, it may not have ever been rediscovered at all if guitarist Steve Hillage and keyboardist Dave Stewart had not gone on to be so well known. Hillage would soon become famous for his work in Gong, and Stewart would become a legend of British prog with Egg, Hatfield and the North, National Health, and his work with wife Barbara Gaskin in the 1980s. Contains bonus track from a lacquer of the same period."

Artist: SUN RA QUARTET
Title: The Mystery Of Being
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: 3LP BOX
Price: $55.00
Catalog #: MJJ 316LP
Subtitled: Voice Studio Rome 2,7,8,13 January 1978. "Sun Ra's legendary 1978 Italian studio sessions, now available together for the first time ever on vinyl! Long sought-after by collectors, these extremely rare studio sessions were originally released in 1978 as two double LPs (New Steps and Other Voices, Other Blues) on the mysterious Italian jazz label, Horo Records. They have never been reissued on vinyl (and only partially reissued on CD) until now! With the help of trumpet player, Michael Ray, drummer, Luqman Ali and saxophonist John Gilmore, Ra kicks off the quartet sessions with the classic 'My Favorite Things,' which features some superlative playing by Gilmore, while Ra pounds away on an old upright studio piano. In fact, for the first two sides Ra plays mostly piano, while on sides C and D, he sticks more to his new Crumar Multiman, an Italian-made synthesizer that Ra had purchased during the tour. These sessions are also interesting because they give listeners a chance to hear Ra concentrating on primarily his own compositions--many of which (i.e. 'Rome At Twilight' 'Along The Tiber') were inspired by his time spent in Italy--but in a more intimate Arkestra-less jazz setting. Fans will be clamouring to get their hands on this before it disappears again for another 30 years."

Artist: AYLER, ALBERT
Title: Spirits
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 317LP
"After a few years spent living in Sweden and touring with Cecil Taylor's Jazz Unit, Ayler moved to NYC to begin imposing his revolutionary style of jazz on the world through a number of groundbreaking records. Spirits, recorded at Atlantic Studios in New York City on 24 February 1964, was his first effort. Recorded a few months prior to his landmark album for ESP-Disk, Spiritual Unity (but only released in Europe on Denmark's Debut Records), for the occasion Ayler recruited Norman Howard (a Cleveland-based trumpeter), well-known bassist Henry Grimes, drummer and right-hand man Sunny Murray and the then-unknown bassist Earle Henderson. This historic early disc is essential Ayler."

Artist: CHERRY/KRZYSZTOF PENDERECKI, DON
Title: The New Eternal Rhythm Orchestra
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 318LP
"Recorded live at the Donaueschingen Music Festival in Germany on October 17, 1971, this rare concert has not been available on vinyl since the seventies! This recording, while still firmly rooted in the American free jazz tradition of Ornette Coleman and Albert Ayler (with whom Don Cherry frequently recorded), brings in elements of traditional Indian, African, Chinese, Mayan and Balinese music. Of the three pieces found here, the first two are composed by Cherry and feature an international group of musicians reminiscent of Sun Ra's Arkestra (Cherry also recorded with Ra). His son, the three-year-old Eagle-Eye Cherry, and his wife Moki, can also be heard in some sections! The final piece was written and conducted by Grammy Award-winning Polish avant-garde composer Krysztof Penderecki, best known for his groundbreaking 'Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima.'"

Artist: AYLER, ALBERT
Title: Swing Low Sweet Spiritual
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 319LP
"Following a few years spent living and playing in Scandinavia, an unknown saxophone player by the name of Albert Ayler returned home to the USA to begin imposing his revolutionary style of jazz on the world. Having recorded his debut album, My Name Is Albert Ayler for the Danish label, Debut Records, this session (which took place in New York City on 24 February 1964) was his first American effort, resulting in the eventual release of two albums: Spirits (released in 1964 on Debut) and Swing Low, Sweet Spiritual, which remained unissued for 30 years. Here, a quartet featuring Ayler on tenor and soprano sax, Call Cobbs on piano, Henry Grimes on bass and Sunny Murray on drums, provide a fresh reading of five well-known African American spirituals and gospel hymns, plus 'Old Man River,' taken from the 1927 musical Show Boat. This is an extremely rare album from Ayler's early period."

Artist: GINSBERG/WILLIAM BLAKE, ALLEN
Title: Songs Of Innocence And Experience
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 320LP
"The original volume of William Blake's collection of poems Songs Of Innocence And Experience Showing the Two Contrary States Of The Human Soul was published in 1789 and since then many have tried their hand at putting some of his 'songs' to music, including poet Allen Ginsberg who believed that Blake himself had originally intended for his poems to be sung. Ginsberg also believed that by studying their meter and verse he could roughly figure out how Blake would have performed them. This album then, originally released in 1970 on Verve, is the result of his efforts. Here Ginsberg sings -- as well as plays the piano and harmonium -- on the 21 'songs', accompanied by partner Peter Orlovsky, and jazz musicians Don Cherry (finger cymbals, trumpet, wood flute, sleigh bells, beaded gourd), Bob Dorough (harpsichord, organ), Cyril Caster (guitar, trumpet), Hanet Zeitz (flute), Jon Sholle (drums), and Herman Wright (bass)."

Artist: THEM
Title: Them In Reality
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 321LP
"If only bassist Alan Henderson had had the good sense to stop using the Them moniker after Van Morrison's departure 1965. Instead, when the band was reborn on Los Angeles' Happy Tiger label in 1970, he hung on to the name (but not the sound) and fans never forgave him for this. Therefore, the fact that Them continued to make great music into the seventies has gone largely under the radar. By the time 1971 rolled around, the band was a stripped-down trio consisting of Henderson on bass, Jim Parker on guitar/vocals, and John Stark on drums (both ex-Kitchen Cinq). Kicking off the album with an extended fuzz guitar version of Van Morrison's calling card, 'Gloria,' may have been Henderson's way of saying, 'feel free to make comparisons, the new Them is back with a vengeance!' For the first time in years Them was a real band again (and not some studio project), with Parker and Stark writing most of the songs, like the brilliant 'California Man.' The new Them was lean, hungry and hard rocking...kind of like the original Them that everyone knows and loves. Too bad that this time around no one was listening."

Artist: HARUMI
Title: Harumi
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: 2LP
Price: $32.00
Catalog #: MJJ 322LP
"Originally released in 1968 on Verve, Harumi is a classic double album of obscure 'Japan meets Greenwich Village' psych with legendary producer Tom Wilson (Velvet Underground, Zappa, Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel) at the helm, desperately trying to reign in the talents of this enigmatic Japanese artist on the outer fringes of an East/West freak out. All songs are sung in English. Original gatefold sleeve." Housed in a gatefold sleeve.

Artist: LAMBERT AND NUTTYCOMBE
Title: At Home
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 323LP
"Originally released in 1970, At Home is the debut album of the obscure Los Angeles folk-rock duo Lambert & Nuttycombe. This album of original ballads was recorded live at the home of Craig Nuttycombe and Denis Lambert in Sausalito, California in 1970 and co-produced by David Anderle (The Doors), Glyn Johns (The Beatles, Rolling Stones) and Chad Stuart (Chad and Jeremy) And although the album--with its intimate vocals and subtle guitar work--generated serious interest at the time, drawing parallels to Nick Drake, the band members' increasing drug problems eventually blocked their road to stardom. Lambert tragically ended up committing suicide in 1997." On 180 gram vinyl.

Artist: HENSKE & JERRY YESTER, JUDY
Title: Farewell Aldebaran
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 324LP
"Originally released on Frank Zappa's Straight! Records in 1969 and limited to 1,000 copies, Farewell Aldebaran is an inspired one-off project by singer Judy Henske and (ex-Association and Lovin' Spoonful member) Jerry Yester. Henske's amazing vocal range and the album's wonderfully eclectic feel (while still firmly rooted in psychedelia) makes one wonder why Henske & Yester did not become bigger stars. A true cult item, combining the help of guest musicians of the calibre of Bernie Krause (Beaver & Krause), Solomon Feldthouse/David Lindley (Kaleidoscope), Ry Cooder and Dick Rosmini. Now reissued for the first time ever on vinyl!"

Artist: COSMIC JOKERS, THE
Title: The Cosmic Jokers
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 325LP
"Recorded in 1973 during a series of acid-fuelled all-night jam parties held at producer Dieter Dierks' studio near Cologne, Cosmic Jokers was the work of a veritable krautrock supergroup that included Dierks himself, Manuel Göttsching (Ash Ra Tempel), Klaus Schulze (Tangerine Dream), Jürgen Dollase and Harald Grosskopf (both of Wallenstein). This free-form freak out -- consisting of two epic tracks, the 22 min "Galactic Joke" and the 19 min "Cosmic Joy"--was first of five albums by the group to be released on Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser's Cosmic Couriers label in the coming months. A first rate slab of space rock up there with other classics of the genre."

Artist: NAGAI, SEIJI
Title: Electronic Noise Improvisation 1999
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: 2LP
Price: $32.00
Catalog #: MJJ 326LP
"After spending the first half of the 1970s globetrotting with Asia's premiere avant-garde band--Takehisa Kosugi's Taj Mahal Travellers (where Seiji Nagai played trumpet and keyboards)--Nagai continued to study and play music, particularly Indian music (drones) and electronic/computer generated music. In 1999 he finally released Electronic Noise Improvisation, with the help of Koichi Watanabe, Koji Kawai and Minoru Yonemoto. Here, as in the days of TMT, Nagai concentrates on creating dense drones, but this time his instruments are computers and a host of electronic gadgets, as well as electronic mandolin and piano."

Artist: TAJ MAHAL TRAVELLERS

Price: $21.00

Artist: TAJ MAHAL TRAVELLERS
Title: Live At The Moderna Museet In Stockholm, 1st & 9th July 1971
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: 2LP
Price: $32.00
Catalog #: MJJ 328LP
"Recorded on July 1 and 9, 1971 in the geodesic dome at the Utopia & Visions 1871-1981 exhibition at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Takehisa Kosugi's Taj Mahal Travellers were the premiere Japanese experimental rock band of the 1970s. The band, heavily influenced by Fluxus, used electronic effects and a host of unusual instruments to create a series of improvised drones. Kosugi went on to become the music director for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company."

Artist: CREATION
Title: Creation
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 329LP
"Originally released in 1975, this album was the culmination of Japanese ax-hero Kazuo 'Flash' Takeda's post-London musical efforts. Takeda spent the early 1960s soaking in the sounds of American blues, psych and British invasion rock bands, eventually forming his own band--the aptly named Blues Creation--in 1969. The band released three albums, including their now legendary Demon & Eleven Children; before Takeda took off for London in 1972. During this time he played on a number of sessions and made friends with many musicians, particularly the American hard rockers Mountain. When he finally returned to Japan the following year, he was ready to start a new band with himself on lead guitar and vocals. Now simply called Creation, the band released its self-titled LP in 1975, produced by the Flower Travellin' Band producer Yuya Utchida and featuring a cover photo of a group of naked boys peeing. Creation's next album would be recorded in the US with Felix Pappalardi. Takeda went on to release over 20 albums and now lives in L.A. as a session guitarist."

Artist: GILBERTO, JOAO
Title: Joao Gilberto
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $23.00
Catalog #: MJJ 332LP
"Originally released in 1973, Joao Gilberto aka The White Album, is as a timeless classic of the genre and one of Joao's definitive masterpieces. Featuring only the minimalist drumming of NY jazz drummer Sonny Carr (and the backing vocals of 'Miucha', Gilberto's second wife and sister of Chico Buarque on the final track), Joao spins a delicate web of sound that from the first notes of Tom Jobim's anthem 'Aguas De Marco' has the listener dreaming of Bahia, even though the album was recorded in a New Jersey studio with electronic music pioneer Wendy Carlos at the controls. This is bossanova at its very best."

Artist: CREATION
Title: Pure Electric Soul
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 333LP
"Led by Japanese guitar hero Kazuo Takeda, Creation was instrumental in opening the ears of Japanese audiences to the sounds pouring in from the West. After having spent some time around London's music scene in 1971, Takeda took his experience home to start a band that incorporated these sounds into something that was at the same time uniquely Japanese. From 1975-1977 Creation released three albums (one of which was recorded in the USA with American producer Felix Pappalardi, whom Takeda had met in London). 1977's Pure Electric Soul was the band's final effort. An album of riff-heavy and funky blues rock, mostly penned by Takeda, with the exception of the blues standard 'Frankie And Johnny' and the Yardbirds' 'Happenings 10 Years Time Ago'. Once again the controversial cover artwork featured a group of nude boys."

Artist: MASATO, MINAMI
Title: The Tropics
Label: KLIMT (FRANCE)
Format: LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: MJJ 334LP
"Born in Asagaya, Tokyo on 3 March 1944, Japanese folk singer Masato Minami began his musical career after spending a few years bumming around Mexico and the US and taking in the burgeoning beatnik (and related drug) scene. While in the US Minami saw one of Dylan's early performances and returned home to Japan to start a band. After the release of two singles (in 1969 and 1970), 1971 saw the release of his debut LP, The Tropics. For this opus Minami enlisted the considerable talents of guitarist Takashi Mizutani (of Les Rallizes Denudes fame) and bassist Haroumi Hosono (of Apryl Fool and Happy End) resulting in this incredibly rare example of early Japanese acid folk. Featuring bonus track 'It Can't Be Over'."
