Shifted's Crossed Paths is a record which pushes the formal possibilities of techno. This is the first full length work to be released on Mote-Evolver and the scope of the album format takes Shifted's vision to the next level. Shifted furthers his exploration into ominous resonances, which he began in 2011 on Mote-Evolver with the Control EP, a vinyl that seamlessly housed the unabashed peak-time "Control" and the spatial "Structure." On Crossed Paths, the breadth of Shifted's ideas is both subtle and devastating. As a producer, Shifted's methodology is like that of a sculptor -- he works principally with textures knowing precisely when to leave edges raw and fault lines exposed. Crossed Paths is constructed of 11 ominous cuts carved with precision and poise. The identity of the man behind the Shifted moniker is shrouded in question marks and his album opens just as mysteriously with the fearlessly oblique "Yearning." Setting out an ambitious internal architecture, the track expands and contracts, creating a sense of euphoric menace. This atmosphere pervades, crystallizing in the strange, swelling loops on "Coax" and the stunning pads of "Colour Of The Fall." Shifted creates hypnotic and persistent music that's perfect for the confusion of the afterhours. He refuses to stick to polarized ideas of tracks falling neatly into the categories "dancefloor" or "ambient." "Bleeding Through" is a case in point: it imperceptibly veers from one territory to another with far-off ringing and torn wooden fragments invading an almost industrial landscape. Equally, "Lexis" is flooded with urgency as sharp, angular corners are created by bleeps which cut into the track's icy exterior. However, Crossed Paths has no shortage of ideas to devastate big club rigs. "Leather" is fully-loaded techno with a disorienting top line spurting and sparking over grinding bass. On "Suffocate," the deviant tones persist, constructed out of the friction between a swung undercarriage and rock-hard beats. "More Static" pushes deep, only to be fractured by clanging metal and sinister wisps of conversation. The record closes with the glacial "Disconnected," a track that is perfectly in harmony with the album's haunting, grey-scale artwork. Having travelled the length and breadth of techno's possibilities, the final track brings unity to the release, suspending the listener once again in the abstract dimension where Crossed Paths began.

"'I've been playing Ortin's track at big gigs for quite a while at peak times, with The Advent & Industrialyzer interpreting it its great to release these two fine pieces of work that have purpose and conviction,' says Luke Slater about the next release on his Mote Evolver label. The boundary-pushing mindset Slater brings to his own Planetary Assault Systems creations is a key characteristic of the music he selects for Mote Evolver. This release from Ortin Cam is a prime example. Being an influential player within Belgium's evergreen techno scene, Ortin Cam's music can best be described as rousing and straight-to-the-point. A regular contributor for leading labels such as Drumcode and Invasion, this single on Mote-Evolver represents another accolade in Cam's upwardly mobile career. The clue to what to expect from this record is in the title. 'Carnage' is a highly purposeful, no-holds-barred, full force techno record. Constructed around firing snares and alternating loops of jittery and then drawn out horn snippets the overall effect is a high-octane track with a fierce rhythm and lots of tense energy. The Advent & Industrialyzer (Kombination Research) present their combined force on the remix. The duo brings a groovier, more electronic vibe to the track; keeping the pulsing tension of the original and underpinning everything with a mechanical, hammer-like groove and multiple layers of undulating distorted acid."

"Luke Slater's Mote Evolver label is not pulling any punches. Having shaken the techno scene to its boots last month with the release of Ortin Cam's no-holes-barred Carnage, the label moves on to their funky 13th release. The name Cari Lekebusch is synonymous with what has made techno the musical powerhouse that it has become. Globally recognized as a founding force behind the Swedish techno movement alongside the triumvirate of Adam Beyer, Jesper Dahlbäck and Joel Mull, Lekebusch's distinctive musical style and creative integrity has graced leading label from Drumcode to Soma to Harthouse and Turbo and spawned a career that has maintained over nearly two decades. Spindizzy is a deftly crafted funked-up tech house track. Constructed from a palette of harmonically aligned keys, bass and horns; its intensity comes from the measured way in which each element is given the space to breath its own energy into the mix. Spacey but musical, subtle yet memorable; this is a standout record. Luke Slater adding his bass sodden L.B 'Dub Corp' twist to the track completes the package. Deeply dubbed-out tribal rhythms take the mix on a more left-of centre path that winds through a busy soundscape of atmospheric acoustics that seem to breathe in deeply before being exhaled in a release of firing percussion."

"Luke Slater's Mote-Evolver label is enjoying an impressive run of form. Having chalked up one of the standout cuts of the autumn in the shape of Cari Lekebusch's 'Spindizzy' and dropped two floor-shaking futuristic techno megabombs from Ortin Cam ('Carnage' & 'Felt') either side of the new year there can be little doubt that the long-standing label is as relevant now as it ever has been. One of the key players in Finland's techno scene, Samuli Kemppi has a reputation for making forward-thinking, boundary blurring electronic music. Coming up to his tenth year as a producer, his knack for blending the best of the past with cutting edge sounds has seen Samuli appear on labels as diverse as Ovum, Siesta, Komisch and Prologue; providing all the credentials necessary to understand why Samuli's style has consistently drawn attention from all corners. 'Dark Matter' kicks of this EP of ultramodern techno. A futuristic and intense soundscape constructed from straightforward driving beats, low-down humming bass, wobbly stabs and haunting echo-laden effects. A deeply hypnotic record. 'Wormhole' continues the futuristic theme with a mesmerizing concoction of minimized techno ambience that builds slowly through steady pulsing layers of whispered melodies, droning bass and waves of thick, distorted squelchy sounds."

One of the most exciting new techno artists to emerge out of the USA in recent times, Submerge (AKA Orlando Solis) has built his reputation on being an eclectic and innovative producer capable of blending all styles of techno to create his signature sound. Currently drawing praise for his recent 2012 EP on his own Impact Mechanics label, Submerge is flying the flag for a new wave of producers bringing fresh energy and ideas in to the techno scene. Title track 'Black Mamba' leads off the EP with a bang. "Having taken a short summer break, Mote-Evolver is back with something very special. Luke Slater's Planetary Assault Systems alias needs little introduction having been at the very heart of techno since 1993. Taken from the first ever Mote-Evolver EP, 'GT' is remixed and reworked to bring a classic bang-up-to-date. James Ruskin brings his classic Detroit inspired sounds into the mix; creating a meandering journey of a mix; bringing out all the futuristic, industrial robot-funk of the original, piecing together the elements into one soulful and hypnotic whole. Function & Jerome Sydenham continue their successful production partnership to create a dark and heavy rework. With both producers styles evident in the mix the melting pot of parts comes together as deep, abrasive warehouse techno. Fittingly, Slater gets in on the act too, providing his own 'P.A.S. "Comprising three state-of-the-art expeditions into deep space techno, Deep Heet Vol. 2 takes techno back to its primitive roots, adding details inspired by yet to be explored points in the galaxy; only visible from Slater's Spacestation UK studio. 'Sucktion' opens the EP in glorious style. The basis being a powerfully hypnotic groove, the track evolves steadily, drawing the listener in completely before revealing its subtle, beautifully powerful, harmonic breakdown. Mechanical and tense, 'Pow Wow' combines the sonic dynamism of hollow reverberating rhythms with oscillating melodic loops which together create a tightly woven groove that ultimately implodes into a shrill explosion of frequencies. 'Raid' closes out the EP with its shimmering minimalism crafting a calm contrast to the rest of the EP. Pulsing melodies and echoing chimes attract the focus while a heavy flat kick and spurts of firing hats add the necessary dance floor momentum."
