Cazumbi: African Sixties Garage Vol. 1
Label:
NOSMOKERECORDS (PORTUGAL)
Format:
CD
Price:
$23.00
Catalog #:
NOSMOKE 002CD
2010 repress. "After the fast sell out of the vinyl version, here's a nice papersleeve CD of it! Warning! This not an Afro-beat or Afro-rock compilation. The music on this record is strictly '60s garage as you might expect of it! Dwarf, ghost, soul from another world -- it's the African definition for Cazumbi! You probably always thought such countries, except South Africa, had nothing to contribute to the '60s garage scene. But it seems our little world still has virgin places for the obscure garage 45s diggers before going to Mars. Here you have a surprising compilation of very, very rare tracks taken from 45s released in Congo, Angola, Mozambique and South Africa. Garage rock, garage surf, powerful '60s R & B -- an amazing collection with groups such as H20 (Mozambique), who had even carton boxes among their instruments, a rare track by the A-Cads, the incredibly rare Kriptons from Angola, an Italian-sung (!) great cover of the Prunes' 'I Had Too Much To Dream' by Conjunto Oliveira Muge in Mozambique, the eerie French sung 'Eh Bien Mon Ami' by African Fiesta. Nicely done release with remastered sound, and an insert with rare and obviously unseen photos and liners!"

Title:
Chico Magnetic Band
Label:
NOSMOKERECORDS (PORTUGAL)
Format:
CD
Price:
$23.00
Catalog #:
NOSMOKE 003CD
"Chico Magnetic Band's eponymous album, released by French
Vogue
subsidiary Box Office label in 1971, defines the term 'heavy psychedelia.' These bunch of freaks, led by Algeria-born Mahmoud 'Chico' Ayari, were clearly influenced by the Jimi Hendrix Experience but somehow they created a song of their own: violent, trashy, stoned as hell heavy psych featuring demented vocals, furious guitars, a loud rhythm section and mindblowing studio effects including phasing, backwards tapes, and weird and groovy electronics. Eight killer tracks including their insane fuzzed-out deconstruction of Hendrix's 'Crosstown Traffic' and cult classics like 'Pop Pull Hair,' 'Explosion,' and 'Pop Orbit.' This reissue includes a good number of bonus tracks (a total of 8 on the CD making this their complete recordings). Features an insert with full band story and rare photos. Edition of 600 papersleeve CDs."

Cazumbi: African Sixties Garage Vol. 2

Format:
CD
Price:
$23.00
Catalog #:
NOSMOKE 004CD
"'60s garage rock and jerk out of South Africa, Angola, Mozambique, Ghana, Madagascar and Cameroun! Yes guys, there's still much more to offer! If you were raving on
Cazumbi Vol. 1
, wait to hear the second. I swear, it's much, MUCH better than the first! Absolutely stunning collection of 21 tracks, ranging from the more sophisticatedly produced (but hell, WILD!!!!) fuzzy garage sounds of South African groups like The Gonks, Birds of a Feather, Them or The Invaders, to the primitive raw garage, beat and jerk of Tall Emma & His Skipper (from Ghana with their killer Hammatan), Vum Vum and Os Rocks from Angola, Les Kilts from Cameroun, Les Safari and Les Jokers from Madagascar, and a good number of Mozambique combos. This brilliant release comes with great artwork, and an insert is included with photos and information on some of the groups and the African '60s rock scene. Limited release of 500 papersleeve CDs. Fully remastered sound."

45,000 Volts
Label:
NOSMOKERECORDS (PORTUGAL)
Format:
CD
Price:
$23.00
Catalog #:
NOSMOKE 005CD
"Stunning, rare as hell album from the rich Zambian 'Zamrock' scene from the '70s -- have you ever heard of this record before? The Ngozi Family (Ngozi means danger, and dangerous is their music indeed!) were also the band backing for Chrissy Tembo on his now well-known
My Ancestors
album. They released this one in 1977, and you'll be amazed when you hear it if you're somehow into Hendrix, Black Sabbath, heavy psychedelia or Afro psych-rock. Most of the tracks on the LP follow that direction, and the rest enter the Afrobeat sound -- but most of it is fuzzy, heavy psych-rock as you can expect. This release has a surprising high quality sound and is limited to 500 copies only. One of the rarest rock albums of the whole world!!! Get it while you can!!!"

Zulu Stomp!! South Africa Garage Beats!!
Label:
NOSMOKERECORDS (PORTUGAL)
Format:
CD
Price:
$23.00
Catalog #:
NOSMOKE 007CD
"While national newspapers portrayed them as 'hordes of sloppy, aggressive, be-jeaned louts and their girlfriends who cause so much trouble in South Africa,' a whole new generation of garage rockers was flooding the clubs with savage, primitive fuzz sounds. No doubt South Africa was the in-place in Mother Africa in the '60s, with a strong scene as can be heard on the
Cazumbi
compilations and this new
Zulu Stomp
that is exclusively dedicated to that country. Expect some of the best garage music you've ever heard from Africa, and don't miss this one if you liked
Cazumbi
... This release includes an insert with liner notes plus a bunch of rare photos. Great remastered sound as well."

NOSMOKE 008CD
"After the real savage compilations of
Cazumbi
and
Zulu Stomp
, Nosmoke Records attacks again. Now looking back to the Indonesian legacy of garage and rock'n'roll. Those bands wrote some history by themselves during the '60s and confronted the Indonesian regime with music. Some of these bands migrated to Europe, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong and helped out creating a new musical movement called Indo-Rock. Bands like The Peels, Swallows, Tielmann Brothers or Rolling Beats have been part of that movement. Lots of fuzz and rock'n'roll, making their own revolution trough the fuzz pedal. Among these, other bands confronted the regime inside Indonesia, like Dara Puspita or Koes, among others. Don't look for protest ballads or even traditional songs here, there's only room for garage, raw beat and Indo-rock at its best. Remastered sound, with many photos and liners in the back." Artists: Dara Puspita, Koes Bersaudara, Pattie Bersaudara, The Peels, Los Indonesios, Panber's, Females, Steps, Koes Plus, Tielman Brothers, Rolling Beats, The Swallows, Black Magic, The Peels, S.Mona Rita &The Kingstons and Benjamin S.

Soul Braza: Brazilian 60's & 70's Soul Psych Vol. 1

NOSMOKE 009CD
"Nosmoke Records strikes again, this new compilation gonna make your summer even more hot . As well as rock, soul music by the likes of James Brown, Otis Redding, and Aretha Franklin also had a big impact in the Brazilian music scene of the 60s. Soul music was introduced in Brazil by singers such as Gerson King Combo, who released in 1969 the record Gerson Combo Brazilian Soul, featuring Brazilian hits like Asa Branca performed with a US-imported beat. Tim Maia, Carlos Dafe, and Tony Tornado started playing soul hits too and took on the attitude and style of US Black Power, establishing the Black Rio movement. The great muse of that period was Lady Zu from Sao Paulo. Traces of the black US rhythm can also be detected in some of the first songs by Jorge Ben Jor (Agora Ninguem Mais Chora, Negro E Lindo, Que Nega E Essa), and, even more so, in others by Wilson Simonal during his Pilantragem phase (such as Mamae Passou Açucar em Mim, País Tropical, Tributo a Martin Luther King). Other more obscure bands and artists also had their moment and importance in the history of Brazilian soul. Musicians like O Incrivel Manito, The Pops, fusing soul, samba rock, and psychedelic music, Tony e Frankye, Trio Ternura, and of course, a few others like Vanusa or Eduardo Araujo, who released some of the best Brazilian music records in the 60s and 70s. This compilation is a summary of what went on during that dictatorship period when soul music was everywhere, from the favelas to the most fashionable and popular parties in Brazilian cities. Here you will find some of the best tracks of Brazilian psychedelic soul music, a fusion of fuzz, sweat and dancing."

"Often regarded as the French Kim Fowley, Evariste is a well-kept secret needing to get out there now. Genius, creative and with a very poisoned language in the lyrics of his songs. A mix betwen ye ye, garage and hallucinated experimental rock. Evariste is probably one of the most interesting musicians from the French '60s rock scene, though maybe too weird to have really had that recognition from the public and media at the time! And Michel Colombier is involved in these recordings too! This first time ever reissue of his works includes his complete discography, that's two EPs and one single. Remastered sound, and limited to 500 copies."

Price:

Catalog #:
NOSMOKE 012CD
Reissued with two bonus tracks ("Stupidity" and "Respect"). "The release of
Find Us A Way
in May 1967 coincided with The La De Das' first exploratory trip to Australia. This one is even better than the first LP, with more original compositions and a more mature soulful rock approach, including the snarling singles 'Find Us a Way' and 'All Purpose Low.' It's a more mod and beat psychedelic related release, tracks like 'Goodbye Sister' or 'Thank You For The Flowers' are a good example of that."

The Rollies, Trio Visca, Peels, White Waves or Djah Iskandar are some of the names for this volume. Loved the first one? So this is even better, even wilder.
