"A techno and dubstep label, formed mid 2009. Project Squared aims to release 12" vinyl and download projects that are dance floor focused, that test new ground and that have depth as well as impact. We release music that covers the space between techno and dubstep as well as music that stays more firmly within those two genres. Created as a sub-label of Project Mooncircle due to a change in taste from one of the co-ordinators of that label, we were amazed to find two artists (Asusu and Furesshu) that were not signed such was the quality of their music. Still in early stages, the label aims to keep releasing high quality dance music, to gather more artists and to change and evolve as styles change and evolve. Most importantly as our own tastes change and evolve. Project Squared is a sub-label of Project Mooncircle and is affiliated with HHV.de. The label is co-run by Paul Cooper and Gordon Gieseking. Artwork and design is by Gordon Gieseking. Asusu -- now a dubstep producer with his sound tied to the deeper side of things, Asusu has moved from roots in hip hop and trip hop through to garage, dubstep and dub techno. He has received radio play from various DJ's on Sub FM, Dubstep FM and Reload Radio, and DJ's himself (dubstep, garage & techno) mainly in Bath and Bristol. His tracks have received accolades in Mixmag and ATM (L.V. and XI's top ten charts). He currently holds a residency at Rocksteady, Bath's first monthly dubstep night, and also regularly co-hosts a show on Sub.fm alongside Trigga."

"This 12" picks up where Furreshu's digital releases at a dubstep tempo on Echodub left off, but also pushes into the deep, Berlin-inspired techno sound that he is presently concentrating on. '1993' sounds fast for its mid 130s tempo; the bass drives the track's pace and the delay-affected stabs provide just enough melody. 'Horizons' feels slower; you could perhaps describe it as a half step track, although it twists up the formula for that sub genre. The bass evolves and changes throughout the track, rising and falling, coupled with drones and drums punctuating the track rather than providing a constant element. 'Untitled' marks a change in Furreshu's sound. 4/4 deep techno; 11 minutes of gradual, constant evolution in the melodic parts of the track but the driving, perfectly toned kick drum and hi hats holding the groove in place."

"The third release on Project Squared features on its A side two tracks of techno-infused dubstep from L-OW, an Estonian producer who has been building a reputation and discography since 2008 with a string of excellent releases. The first track, 'Pinpoint', has an energetic drive and pace despite it's syncopated individual rhythmical elements. L-OW fuses these disparate elements to make a dance floor track with impact and depth. L-OW's second track is Diver; a more reflective and introspective piece than Pinpoint, this is not a recording to play at the height of a set, but is more a piece focussed on mood and depth. On the B side, Bristol based artist Furesshu remixes Diver, taking elements of the original 140bpm dubstep track and applying them to a 127bpm techno framework. After a well received debut release on Project Squared that has garnered DJ play from the likes of Sigha , Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock, Furesshu has produced a superb remix as a follow up. He strips back the original to a haunting, industrial, emotive melodic element, and drives the pace of the remix with cymbal lead drum lines and expansive bass. "Furesshu's second 12 inch on Project Squared showcases a more house-influenced -- but still techno at its core -- sound with 'Lucid' and 'All I Want'. Both tunes work around short vocal snippets, employing them to melodic, repetitive effect within a sparse but subtly evolving soundstage. Providing a remix of 'Lucid', Shifted converts the house tinged original into straight up, heavy hitting techno, with relentless kick drum, melodic stabs and the occasional clap."
