Artist: VOICES OF THE MILLENNIUM
Title: Voices of the Millennium
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: REV 016LP
Restocked, new lower pricing. Originally released in 2003. "The never-finished project of legendary producer, scenemaker, and Beach Boy collaborator Gary Usher's utopic, but short-lived Together Records. Hoping to cash in on the label's only 'name band' Sagittarius in 1969/70, Usher arranged new Sagittarius demo sessions in hopes to release a follow-up album. Sagittarius was really just Usher, Curt Boettcher and members of The Millennium. In their original demo form, bereft of electronic trickery, it is possible to now hear these songs as the logical development of the soft pop style their writers had been working in since 1965. Despite the studio mastery and innovative use of technology that the Millennium, Usher, Boettcher and Olsen are renowned for, it really was and is all in the songs... and these are truly some of their best..."

Artist: THANES, THE
Title: Evolver
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: 2LP
Price: $22.00
Catalog #: REV 069LP
"A double LP collection to introduce you to the history and mystery of this quartet from Edinburgh who released their first record in 1987 and has been on the revival garage beat scene since. Classic '60s oriented beat that brings to mind everyone from the Chesterfield Kings to the real kings, the Standells -- with whom the Thanes played at the Las Vegas Grind festival in 2000. Evolver is an exhaustive music file that explores the sound of the group throughout a cult discography of rarities, singles, live concerts and more from 1987 to present."

Artist: SUMAC, YMA
Title: Voice of the Xtabay
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: 2LP
Price: $22.00
Catalog #: RV 027LP
"Despite her incredibly unconventional style, when the first Yma Sumac album Voice Of The Xtabay was originally released in 1950, it hit number one on the US charts making the Peruvian singer an enormous success and simultaneously launching the 'exotica' vogue. She was an innovator in the truest sense of the word and few, if any, have been able to follow in her giant footsteps."

Artist: CUTLER, IVOR
Title: Life In A Scotch Sitting Room Vol. II
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 001CD
2002 reissue of this 1978 album release, originally issued on Virgin. "The first release on the Rev-Ola label through Cherry Red. Ivor Cutler... from his early jazz outings to his work with The Beatles, Soft Machine and a host of other luminaries, to his amazing continued output of poetry and stories, to his recordings on Creation, the enigmatic Mr. Cutler has for decades been the secret star of whatever literary vanguard Britain possesses. Life In a Scotch Sitting Room Vol II catches Mr. Cutler in his usual spectacular live performance, at Glasgow's 3rd Eye Centre in the 1970s. Songs, poems, stories and invaluable 'Jungle Tips'... this edition features special additional artwork by Mr. Cutler. A must-have for all lovers of the inimitable 'Glasgow Dreamer.'"

Artist: FROST, THOMAS AND RICHARD
Title: Visualize
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 004CD
2002 release. "Of all the known or rumored 'lost' albums from the odd pop era when everyone wanted a go at a super-pop classic a la Brian Wilson, this is perhaps the most thoroughly lost...as the only essay in this style by the artist, it was a case of never before and never again! Richard and Tom Martin were mainstays of The Art Collection aka Powder, America's closest shot at the pop-art sound of The Who or The Creation. After a number of classic (and now ruinously expensive) singles failed to set the charts alight, a change of direction was clearly called for. Calling themselves Thomas and Richard Frost, the brothers signed to Imperial Records and made a number of classic pop singles, some of which indeed hit the lower reaches of the charts, all in preparation for their masterwork, Visualize unfortunately, reorganization at Imperial after their acquisition by Liberty Records meant the album was cancelled: at such a late stage that production masters complete with catalog number and half-completed artwork have languished in the vaults until now. Tom and Rich's next project was an accomplished country-rock album for UNI Records, the breathtaking pop experiment of Visualize remaining a closed chapter...until now."

Artist: LUCEY, CHRIS
Title: Songs of Protest and Anti-Protest
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 007CD
2002 release, repressed. "Chris Lucey...the man who never was..... star of one of the most mysterious, rabidly collectable and expensive West Coast folk-rock albums of all. A monster on Ebay, revered by Julian Cope, and buzzing through every psychedelic web site on the net. Produced by Marshall Lieb, Phil Spector's Teddy Bears collaborator, sounding like Arthur Lee demos backed by a punk version of Tim Buckley's band, sung and written by a man who worked with The Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, Kim Fowley, P.J. Proby, Lowell George, and Curt Boettcher among other luminaries, but still managed to fall through the cracks of history. Bobby Jameson... subject of the most lavish and expensive Billboard ad supplement ever (for which the invoice is still outstanding), star of 'Mondo Hollywood' and best remembered among L.A. scenesters for jumping off the roof of the Riot House on Sunset and walking away. A glimpse of that Mondo Sunset Strip underbelly that never really got represented at Monterey. On the mysterious Surrey Records, released under a pseudonym, and boasting a blurred snapshot of Brian Jones jamming in a club on the Strip as its front cover with a jazzy version of Bobby's song 'Girl From The East', better known as recorded by garage-meisters The Leaves... what was going on here God only knows. But a West-Coast classic from the Twilight Zone... yes, indeed."

Artist: BLADES OF GRASS, THE
Title: Are Not For Smoking
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 008CD
2002 release, repressed. "From Rochester, NY, one of the later signings to legendary New York doo-wop label Jubilee Records, The Blades Of Grass were one of the prime East Coast exponents (along with The Free Design) of that usually West Coast genre of sunshine pop Its complex, baroque harmonies and optimistic atmosphere having a much overlooked but firm second front in the city that never sleeps. Indeed, the group's first hit single 'Happy' went head-to-head in a chart battle with L.A.'s Sunshine Company, as did their version of the Peter Sellers film title-track 'I Love You Alice B.Toklas,' with Harpers Bizarre shortly afterwards... though The Blades' version with its vocal phasing and psychy effect-laden intro and outro, somewhat had the edge stylistically...this release includes their only LP from 1967, together with all of their non-LP singles in the original mono... making the first ever complete collection by these masters of soft pop. Some of whose members bizarrely went on to the perhaps more traditional New York arty pursuit of making extraordinary records on the avant garde ESP label!"

Artist: SUNSHINE COMPANY, THE
Title: The Sunshine Company
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 013CD
2002 release, repressed. "The Sunshine Company -- their very name conjures up the spirit of the soft pop genre so beloved of collectors as does the buoyant optimism of their sound, with its complex multi-part harmonies, and full-on L.A. radio-friendly studio production, making them almost the very archetype of the genre. Scratch the surface, however, and one finds the rather eccentric strain of melancholy (perhaps a product of the gap between their ambition and their record label's more traditional expectations) which sets them apart from almost every other group in the genre. Their story, like their music, is far more complex than it appears, perhaps the only soft pop group whose brief career links them with the Carpenters, Fairport Convention, the Fifth Dimension, Yes, Jackson Browne, Jefferson Airplane, Matthews Southern Comfort, Duane and Gregg Allman and Sandy Denny -- and took them in a short time from a position as cherished collaborators and influences to indifference with most of them as the musical climate of the late 1960s made its incredibly fast quantum leaps."

Artist: LOVE GENERATION
Title: Let the Good Times Roll In: The Best Of The Love Generation
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 015CD
"From their beginning as singers and dancers on some of America's top TV shows, the Love Generation went on to record some of the most luscious and adventurous softpop extravaganzas ever. They racked up a number of hits, crowned by their ambitious 1968 hit rendition of Jimmy Webb's 'Montage From How Sweet It Is,' next was a move into advertising and TV vocal session work including the legendary 'Elvis '68 TV Special' -- now this collection of the Love Generation's most innovative work is repromoted and features tracks from their first three albums, including their first hit single 'Groovy Summertime,' 'Montage From How Sweet It Is' and their original version of 'Let the Good Times In,' the song that started the Partridge Family phenomenon."

Artist: CANTERBURY MUSIC FESTIVAL, THE
Title: Rain & Shine
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 033CD
2003 release. "If you are looking for ultra-rare soft pop, you've come to the right place! Only 150 copies were pressed (in order to establish copyright) of The Canterbury Music Festival's 1968 album, Rain & Shine, an almost willfully secret psych-pop masterpiece of sorts on the obscure and collectable BT Puppy label out of New York City, owned by the legendary Tokens, and the source of many rarities from The Canterbury Music Festival to the Brute Force classic 'The King Of Fuh' (licensed to Apple Records in the UK, becoming their rarest single when immediately banned by the BBC). In addition to the many hits associated with the Tokens, baroque and breezy psych-pop a lá Left Banke, Association and Blades Of Grass is the order of the day here, with songs by The Tokens and the enigmatic Steven 'Brute Force' Friedland, this is a great addition to the Revola roster of scarily collectable artists in this genre."

Artist: TOKENS, THE
Title: Intercourse
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 037CD
"From the depths of the legendary BT Puppy vaults (a label which seems to have as many lost albums as they had hits!) the very daddies of softpop The Tokens! Though The Tokens are best remembered for their international smash hit 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight,' recently revived in The Lion King, they did much more. Producers, writers, publishers and label owners, they had a long string of hits in all those roles. Intercourse is a full-on softpop song cycle, inexplicably turned down by their then-label Warner Brothers, and released in an edition of 200 copies on their own BT Puppy label for contractual reasons. Far from their Doo-Wop roots, The Tokens delivered an album pitched somewhere between Pet Sounds and Sgt. Pepper's, with all the production and arrangement tricks that implies. No wonder Warners were dumbfounded, and no wonder collectors have been going nuts and paying silly sums for this album ever since! Newly remastered by The Tokens themselves, this is a surprise treat in anyone's language, as The Tokens show not only every cult softpop group, but many superstars just how it's done, with the wicked tongue-in-cheek touch which they were justly famous for."

Artist: DAMON, LIZ
Title: Liz Damon's Orient Express
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 040CD
"From Hawaii comes pure cane sugar, the ukulele, the steel guitar, Steve McGarrett, Chin and Dan-o....oh!....and....Liz Damon's Orient Express! From the soon-to-be legendary Rev-Ola White Whale Records series. Originally released in 1969, Orient Express is a masterpiece of lounge-pop and the 'Now Sound' which features not only their US smash hit '1900 Yesterday,' and a raft of other Now Sound classics, but also a cracking soft-pop rendition of 'Bring Me Sunshine,' the song with which Eric & Ernie closed many a classic 'Morecombe and Wise' show in the 1960s and '70s (though here not orchestrated by Andre Preview, sadly)...superb! Rat pack adjacent soft-pop for Hawaiian luaus attended by the 'beautiful people,' something of a bookend to our phenomenal release by the Forum! Never before on CD, Orient Express includes several bonus tracks, rare photos and an extensive interview with the lovely Liz Damon herself!"

Artist: NEIL, FRED
Title: Do You Ever Think Of Me?
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 047CD
2009 repress, originally released 2003. "Fred Neil was the eminence grise of 1960s folkrock. The most famous unknown songwriter in the world, a reclusive, truculent man, who vehemently shied away from stardom, so admired by his contemporaries that his songs are everywhere. Covered by Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, the Lovin' Spoonful, Tim Buckley, Jefferson Airplane (who also wrote two songs *about* Fred!)...and most famously I suppose by Harry Nilsson, whose mega-hit cover of 'Everybody's Talking' (from the soundtrack of Midnight Cowboy) means that Fred Neil is the writer of one of the seven most played songs in the world! Not bad for a man who deliberately retreated from fame at the height of his powers to pursue dolphin research! 'He taught me everything that was music,' says David Crosby. And here are some of his best recordings, produced for Capitol by Nik Venet, the almost-pop-structured Fred Neil album, and its experimental follow-up Sessions. Pure genius! I quite seriously defy anyone not to love Fred Neil! This repress of a Rev-Ola classic contains his best known songs -- 'Everybody's Talking' and 'The Dolphins' -- and is must for folk, folk rock and general music fans everywhere."

Artist: DE SAH, WANDA
Title: Softly!
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 071CD
"Before there was the amazingly successful Brasil '66, there was the experimental pop/bossa nova project Brasil '65, starring Sergio Mendes, and fronted by two amazing young singer/guitarists, Wanda de Sah and Rosinha de Valenca and the acclaim heaped on them for their live performances and albums led Mendes to abandon the byways of jazz for the greener pastures of Brasil '66. In 1966, just as this original pop bossa sensation was disbanding, Sinatra's producer David Cavanaugh signed Wanda to Capitol Records and made this beautiful, relaxing and erotic album. Sympathetically arranged by the seemingly unlikely figure of Munsters theme composer, Jack Marshall (but let us not forget his stunning arrangement of Peggy Lee's 'Fever'), it drew its repertoire from some of the most cutting-edge young Brazilian composers, all wrapped in an amazing soundtrack-like production, with Wanda's voice -- a thing of beauty in itself -- leading it all. Promoted originally as 'The real Girl From Ipanema' (because she was!) Wanda was a sensation. All in all, a wonderful album."

Artist: H.P. LOVECRAFT
Title: Dreams In The Witch House: The Complete Phillips Recordings
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 088CD
"A greatly in-demand title that now finally gets a re-press! H.P. Lovecraft, the legendary 1960s Chicago underground band fondly remembered for some of the earliest FM hits. As much of a European cult as Captain Beefheart or Love, yet they remain almost a mystery band -- few pictures, and few facts -- until now! Rev-Ola presents their complete recordings, lovingly remastered, and beautifully packaged -- the full unknown story of H.P. Lovecraft -- with notes, including new interviews with the band members by Nick Warburton, band biographer, historian and official webmaster, as well as many previously-unseen pictures, including legendary and rare psychedelic posters. This material has never been on CD in Europe before, and that's not all! We also include two never-compiled-not-even-on-vinyl bonuses: the innovative radio edit of 'The White Ship' (the version which made it a huge FM hit!) and the staggering phased-to-the-max single mix of 'Keeper Of The Keys'! The haunting sound of H.P. Lovecraft as you've never heard or seen it."

Artist: CHRYSALIS
Title: Definition
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 094CD
"Chrysalis' lone 1968 long player is a hugely respected and much sought-after jazz/folk/ rock crossover from the psychedelic era, and one which has recently earned classic status among collectors and aficionados. It's a most mysterious album, boasting exotic song titles and some very Zen liner notes and the twelve pieces of music contained within its grooves are unlike any others recorded before or since! Flitting butterfly-like between the gossamer-light acoustics of 'Cynthia Gerome,' the fuzz-drenched satire of 'Father's Getting Old' and the ragtime psychedelia of '30 Poplar,' the album takes lush woodwind and string arrangements, full-on acid-rock weird-outs and unbearably delicate jazz vibes and mixes them up into one giant bittersweet birthday cake! Covered in insects! First time on CD -- never before re-issued in any format and features no less than eight previously unheard bonus demos taken from the lone original acetate! Remastered in the usual painstaking Rev-Ola style and has luxurious expanded packaging containing the beautiful original artwork and liner notes!"

Artist: FOOL, THE
Title: The Fool
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 116CD
"Anarchic eccentrics in 1960's Amsterdam and London; designers of many a psychedelic wonder; mainly known for being slagged off in every Beatles book ever written by those who weren't there! But was there more? Oh yes indeed... The Fool began as a faction of the Amsterdam Provos, the Provocateurs whose Proto-Situationist pranks had Holland in an uproar throughout the 1960's. From White Bicycles to trepanation to nonstop major windups of the Police and government, the Provos achieved a species of portable Anarchist Republic which stunned Europe. The Fool came to London as designers though, commissioned by NEMS management to style their clients in the new Psychedelic fashions, everything from the painted guitars and flamboyant clothes sported by Cream on their first US tour to Psychedelic cars for the stars and the mural on The Apple Boutique, which also showcased their fashions. Their album sleeves for Jimi Hendrix, The Move, and The Incredible String Band among others, remain classics. And, yes, they made an album! Produced by Graham Nash on the cusp of leaving The Hollies (who The Fool also did sleeves for!) and founding CSN, engineered by Hendrix soundmaster Eddie Kramer, the album is a shock! Pictured and airily dismissed in every Beatles book, this is a tour de force of Wyrd Folk ala Incredible String Band and strange twisted visions of pop ala God knows who! A delight long buried under Beatles baggage. The Fool can take its place alongside the likes of David Hemmings David Hemmings Happens and Vashti's Another Diamond Day as rediscovered artifacts of a time when an injection of Wicker Man-ism somehow found it's way into the already twisted body of British pop. This legendary album is a must for all Apple Records collectors; fans of The Incredible String Band and of the growing, nay exploding field of wyrd folk in general!"

Artist: LONGET, CLAUDINE
Title: Hello, Hello: The Best Of...
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 119CD
"Claudine Longet: the very model of the breathy, sexy French waif as the U.S. and world audience perceived her... film star, TV star, singer/notsinger... a fey presence in a beautiful forest, where The A&M Sound enveloped her in an embrace of Bossa Nova and reverb... while Nick De Caro and Tommy Lipuma, masters of The A&M Sound took us all on a journey into sound... where being a singer or not a singer didn't matter as long as the languid erotic vibe was there....where A.C. Jobim came and wrote and played...where there was a PARTY....and Henry Mancini wrote, as he had done for Audrey Hepburn, the perfect song/notsong, for the ethereal beauty Claudine to sing/notsing as Peter Sellers desperately searched for the bathroom and Blake Edwards collapsed laughing... a magical person in a magical world, in a magical time... 'Sleep Safe And Warm' never had a more definitive reading, as Claudine brought her own take on 'vaga' to the non-Latin world...First time CD collection of Claudine's finest moments."

Artist: PRIDDY, NANCY
Title: You've Come This Way Before
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 134CD
"DJs and hipsters worldwide bigging up an album by Christina Applegate's mom?...You're putting me on, right?...well, er...NO!! Radiant New York-based actress/songstress Nancy Priddy only made this one album, but what an album it is! A fine, low-key psych folk pop masterpiece, funky and folky and psychy-rocky and Lord knows what else all at once, with the Big Apple's finest. Nancy had been a mover and shaker on the Greenwich Village folk scene of the early 1960s, as a member of The Bitter End Singers and is the subject of the Stephen Stills-penned Buffalo Springfield classic, 'Pretty Girl Why' (think 'Priddy Girl Why'). The album was produced by industry legend Phil Ramone, then working with enigmatic audio innovator Enoch Light on his Project 3 roster including The Free Design, and obviously at the top of his considerable form...There are elements of folk, pop, soul, gospel, even children's music here, a unique sound and atmosphere which has made this one of those mysterious albums which commands top dollar without being obviously by any kind of 'rock legend'... Over startling arrangements centered around spare basslines, folk changes, experimental touches and DJ-enticing drum breaks, she sings lyrics far beyond the usual pop-romantic platitudes. Today, the album is rabidly sought after by DJs and the hordes of Wyrd Folk fans in that growing field."

Artist: GARRIE, NICK
Title: The Nightmare of J.B. Stanislas
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 135CD
"One of the most mysterious and sought after albums ever... A masterpiece of dark and enigmatic downer orchestral folkrock beauty redolent of Nick Drake or even er...Peter Sarstedt if you please!...But who on earth was Nick Garrie?...and why was this a France-only album? RevOla is in a position to answer all this. The amazing adventures of the Russian/Scottish Euroboy...wandering the hip hotspots of Europe, San Tropez to Amsterdam, from his parental homebase in Paris...writing songs with the likes of Francis Lai...having megahits in Spain...recording with Cat Stevens and his band...touring and hanging out with Leonard Cohen...it just goes on, and yes, it is impossibly romantic...but the meat of this all is the amazing Nightmare Of J.B. Stanislas itself.... A languid, orchestral post-psychedelic treat, it's equal parts UK baroque-downer pop/folk, with echoes of Peter Sarstedt and Al Stewart, and Euro grown up yet now-sounding pop, where Dutronc meets Aznavour...and Gainsbourg is the Daddy...... Never before on CD (possibly because no one could actually find a mint copy to bootleg!), in this wonderful post-modern age where 'quiet is the new loud,' Nick Garrie-Hamilton's lone 1969 album returns like a long lost uncle clutching armfuls of oranges and lemons which should please lovers of lite pop-psych and symphonic pop no end. Its closest musical relatives are probably Twice As Much, Piccadilly Line or Duncan Browne's Immediate recordings, so it ought to appeal especially to those of a Fading Yellow persuasion..a growing tribe...and that's not all...oh no! We add...not only Nick's rare-issimo 1968 psych pop single 'Queen Of Spades/Close Your Eyes' but also....tracks from his earliest recording....done for a label which planned to take over the European music business by issuing music only on 8-Track Cartridges...unheard even by Nick for years due to the 8-Track player not recovering from being dead."

Artist: NILES, JOHN JACOB
Title: My Precarious Life in the Public Domain
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 138CD
"Doubtless the secret star of Martin Scorcese's acclaimed TV documentaries on Bob Dylan was the amazing John Jacob Niles, one of those early 20th century figures that, well, really just don't happen anymore. Musicologist, collector, songwriter, balladeer, John Jacob Niles was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1892 into a mysterious, spooky world of hills and hollers where the eeriest of folk songs were still alive, and brought their essential strangeness, unchanged yet subtly garbled since the mountaineers arrived from Britain, to the modern world and ultimately to the folk revival of the early 1960s, influencing generations of folk singers. Niles was singing the likes of 'Barbary Ellen,' at children's singing contests as early as 1901, and began collecting Appalachian folk songs and composing music in earnest as a teenage salesman for Burroughs' Adding Machines. After serving in the new U.S. Air Force in World War I, the government financed Niles' study of music at the Universite de Lyon and the Schola Cantorum in Paris, where he met Gertrude Stein. In the 1920s, John Jacob Niles published his first song collections, became master of ceremonies at the Silver Slipper nightclub New York City, and in 1933, toured the U.S. and Europe with Marion Kerby to critical acclaim. That same year, he acted as assistant and guide on Doris Ullman's celebrated photo expeditions into the fading mountain communities of his home region, collecting music as he went. Niles was known for his otherworldly singing and dulcimer playing (he made his own lutes and Appalachian dulcimers) and specialized in the songs of the Appalachian Mountain region. His ballad collections frequently included material that he composed, such as 'I Wonder As I Wander' and 'Black Is the Color of My True Love's Hair,' or arranged, as well as ballads transcribed directly from oral sources and continued performing and recording his uniquely powerful, unsettling approach to folk songs into the 1970s. Niles died at his home at Boothill Farm, near Lexington, Kentucky on March 1, 1980. This is a first time CD collection of his amazing, slightly disturbing work... prepare to be astonished."

Artist: MARTIN, VINCE
Title: If the Jasmine Don't Get You...The Bay Breeze Will
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 139CD
Repressed. "Vince Martin first emerged in the late 1950s as a folk-blues singer around Greenwich Village...of the tendency which kind of avoided the academic approach. A friend of commercial folk-pop group The Tarriers, he was the lead singer on their 'Cindy Oh, Cindy' 45, a monster hit and one of the first real big successes to emerge from the Folk Boom. Vince, lending not only a gritty edge of authenticity, but a note of wistful yearning no amount of study can bring, in the early 1960s, gravitated toward the intense club nights presented by black activist and broadside editor, Len Chandler. Starting a celebrated partnership with fellow maverick Fred Neil which stretched over live appearances which influenced a generation, David Crosby, Mama Cass, Richie Havens, you name them... and cutting an acclaimed and now-classic album for Elektra. It was Vince who started the to-ing and fro-ing of the folk scene players between Greenwich Village and Florida's Coconut Grove, a place he discovered by chance in 1961, later immortalized in a song by Fred Neil covered by everyone. All of this is perfectly captured on Vince Martin's 1969 album, If the Jasmine Don't Get You ... The Bay Breeze Will, one of that decade's overlooked gems, and a record whose title truly says it all, and whose time has come. From the opening cut, 'Snow Shadows,' the sound is an airy blend of folk spirit and rock dynamics. Softly brushed drums push forward behind propulsive flat-picked twin acoustic guitars; Martin's high tenor sings of romantic loss, quivering over the lines 'Stumbling through the snow..../Nothing waitin' for me like I'm leaving behind..../Cities are meant for leaving before I get too black and blue.' As the song builds, the drummer dramatically downshifts, cracking his snare with a full stick. Martin's voice in turns seems to lift off with a thrilling effect, soaring, as he croons, 'Heading south without you like a wild bird flying blind/Someone should have told me I'd never go home.' Produced by infamous A&R man/producer Nickolas Venet at Capitol's studio in Nashville, Tennessee, this record came in out on Capitol releases which included Euphoria, Gandalf, and Karen Dalton's self titled album... strange company indeed."

Artist: LOBO, EDU
Title: Sergio Mendes Presents...Lobo
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 140CD
"Edu Lobo...One of the leaders of Brasil's Tropicalia movement along with the immortal Jorge Ben...songwriter and singer of distinction...composing both music of startling innovation AND songs which became worldwide standards, following the template laid down by Ben... By 1970 it had become expedient for Lobo and his wife, Wanda de Sah, to leave Brasil and seek refuge in the US...where they took part in assorted jazz recordings...and their friend Sergio Mendes produced Lobo's first album released outside Brasil for the amazing A&M label! Featuring the cream of the A&M sounders, with the Brasil '66 rhythm section led by Airto Moreira to the fore this is a simply astonishing and assured leap into new territory...with English lyrics on some songs by Herb Alpert's wife, former Brasil '66 singer Lani Hall, and startling Jazz/Tropicalia vocal arrangements by Sergio Mendes' wife Gracinha Leporace, it's a hell of a debut...but outside Brasil, that's what it was! From his shimmering 5th Dimension-like 'Crystal Illusions,' translated by Lani Hall and a hit for Brasil '66, to his standard 'To Say Goodbye,' a hit for oh so many people, to his jazz/Tropicalia/A&M Sound transformation of The Beatles 'Hey Jude,' the album is just perfect...the spirit of Brasil and the A&M Sound meet head on...and the result is sheer pleasure!"

Artist: GILLESPIE, DANA
Title: Foolish Seasons
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 141CD
"In 1964 she recorded her first single for Pye, with Donovan on guitar and became a regular on the folk circuit along with friends Donovan and David Bowie. In 1967, she made this album, Foolish Seasons, a psychpop/Swinging London/folkrock masterpiece. Featuring the rare Donovan song, 'You Just Gotta Know My Mind,' which should have been a smash mod hit, (and also includes the guitar of Jimmy Page!), and two fantastic Billy Nicholls covers from his much celebrated and legendary psych/softpop gem, Would You Believe. Arranged by the great Mike Vickers and produced by Wayne Bickerton (World of Oz, Jackie Lomax, Pete Best Four, The Rubettes), this is one of THE great missing links of 1960s pop. Dana was to make one more album for Decca, morphing seamlessly into a more blues based style, before becoming a star of London's West End theatre: the first run of Jesus Christ Superstar (playing Mary Magdalene), The Who's Tommy (playing the Acid Queen) and the rock Othello, Catch My Soul. She also appeared with Peter Cook, Dudley Moore and Kenneth Willams in the film The Hound Of The Baskervilles and starred in Ken Russell's Mahler. A number of roles in latter-day Hammer films and more experimental arthouse movies are also fondly remembered. As a singer she moved to RCA Records and made Weren't Born A Man and Ain't Gonna Play No Second Fiddle, under the aegis of David Bowie, whose management, Mainman, also took care of her career. A period in the US was spectacularly ended when Bob Dylan invited her to appear on his 1997 UK tour...Dana continues recording successfully today, specialising in her first love, emotionally expressive blues music...this sumptuous reissue of her classic first album is LONG overdue."

Fantastic and long-coveted Los Angeles psychedelic pop masterpiece. The first time ever on CD anywhere."

Artist: RUSH, MERRILEE
Title: Angel of the Morning (The Complete Bell Recordings)
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 143CD
"Activist in Seattle Women in Rhythm & Blues, a member of the Northwest Hall Of Fame (which puts her on a par with the mighty Kingsmen and Sonics!), maker of one of THE classic hit singles -- a radio staple ever since and a front runner in the Memphis pop explosion which led to famous Soul factory American Studios producing The Box Tops, a whole slew of singles for Eternity's Children, Dusty In Memphis and this classic collection of popsoulfolkrock recordings on Bell Records...containing songs by Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham, John Phillips, Chip Taylor and Al Gorgoni, Bacharach and David....and a whole raft of other master songwriters. A legend and huge live draw in their native Northwest, Merrilee and her band The Turnabouts were on tour in 1967 with their local superstar friends Paul Revere and The Raiders...who like Elvis and Dusty Springfield had been intrigued by the soul and pop masterpieces emanating from American Studios, and decided to make an album there with the crack team of writers/producers/ musicians. They recommended Merrilee to the legendary studio boss, Chips Moman, who asked her to record a version of 'Angel Of The Morning,' the Chip Taylor future classic which Evie Sands had been robbed of a hit with by the collapse of Cameo-Parkway records. Released as a single, it became a monster hit, and there followed a whole load of great material on Bell Records, with that classic American Studios sound to the fore. And Merrilee's voice, owing as much to Evie Sands and Jackie De Shannon as it did to her own unique take on the songs, was the icing on the cake as folkrock met soulpop. Here are the complete Bell Recordings, including the rare Quincy Jones-produced take on 'What the World Needs Now' from the controversial back in the day movie "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice," and Merrilee's amazing trippy version of Motown classic 'Reach Out...I'll Be There,' apparently inspired by hearing Vanilla Fudge's overhaul of 'You Keep Me Hanging On.' On the car radio one rainy night on tour, an amazing slice of American Studios Memphis pop Soul... with a twist!"

Reissue of this album from 1970. "Som Imaginario!.....In the ferment of Brasilian music which was taking place in the post Bossa Nova period...when the most unlikely musical figures had suddenly been thrust onto a world stage....many quite amazing musical explosions came to the surface....as Tropicalia took hold, and the unlikely sounds of funk, prog, psychedelic rock and lord knows what else were filtered through the unique sensibility of Brasil.....Som Imaginario! Musical prodigy Wagner Tiso and the Wanderley brothers played in many combos with their neighbour Milton Nacimento ....when the latter had his major label international breakthrough, he employed his old friends to back him on his debut, dubbing them Som Imaginario after a phrase in a review of a triumphant concert they did together....Luiz Alves and Robertinho Silva, Tavito, Ze Rodrix, Laudir de Oliveira and Frederico were all members of Son Imaginario, along with Milton Nascimento and other star guests on uncredited vocals.....on one of the most amazing albums ever to come out of Brasil.....Bossa, Tropicalia and Samba meet Italian prog and Brit psych....western pop meets eastern soundtracks with DJ friendly beats breaking through all over the shop.... an album that was acclaimed on its release by a gobsmacked Herbie Hancock, and has to be heard to be believed."

Artist: TELESCOPES, THE
Title: Taste
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 152CD
"Hot on the heels of the success of the amazing lost Telescopes album comes another hidden gem in the catalogue of today's foremost mind expanding sound experimenters, Taste. The first album length recording by The Telescopes laid out their stall for all time as a source of psychedelic experimental noise, in a pop/rock framework which was to make them a hit indie act in the strange musical world of the late 1980's...which already seems so far away, like a dream... Including the timeless single 'The Perfect Needle,' a song which encapsulated the early sound of The Telescopes on the radio waves of a grateful nation...The full original album, augmented by the classic 1st John Peel session appearance, this is the definitive genesis of The Telescopes."

Artist: SANDS, EVIE
Title: Estate Of Mind
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 153CD
"Evie Sands... one of the most astonishing female vocalists in the world, the favourite singer of Dusty Springfield among many others...yes, we've been through all this before, but...well...it needs to be said! After a series of critically acclaimed disappointments in the 1960s, Evie at last got her due with the sublime (and monster hit!) 1969 single and album 'Any Way That You Want Me' on A&M...a couple of years later, Evie was to team with Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, erstwhile hitmakers at Dunhill Records...masterminds of the label's dazzling second run, going from re-inventing The Grass Roots as pop/soul hitmakers, to the personal triumph of relaunching the hit career of The Four Tops...On a roll, they were able to launch Haven Records, to which their first signing was Evie...for this superb album, written and produced by the duo, which was a huge success, both artistic and commercial for Evie, and spawned the hit singles 'You Brought The Woman Out Of Me' and 'I Love Makin' Love To You'...along with a raft of cover versions by Barbara Streisand, Gladys Knight, Dusty Springfield, Dobie Gray, Dionne Warwick, Frankie Valli, Cher and Greg Allman, The Manhattans, Phyllis Hyman, Jose Feliciano, Linda Clifford, June Pointer, Weather Girls, Liona Boyd, The Ebonys, Karen Carpenter, Tom Jones, Betty Everett, and many others...a songwriting coup for Dennis and Brian, and for Evie herself... So here we are, with the original album, as well as no less than five unreleased bonus tracks of stunning quality...another triumph for Evie. First time on CD."

Artist: LEE, RITA
Title: Hoje é O Primeiro Dia do Resto da Sua Vida
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 154CD
"The fabulous Rita Lee rocketed to fame as a member of the wildest alumni (and now, bizarrely, the best known) of Tropicalia, Os Mutantes! Their amazing albums and controversial antics set out a stall for Tropicalia in no uncertain terms and the widespread rediscovery of their work in the '90s and their current reformation (after 30 years of not talking) continue to fan the flames of the myth. After Os Mutantes' early groundbreaking albums, Rita Lee decided to create her own space by launching a concurrent career as a solo singer. Unfortunately, her slightly wayward Rogerio Duprat-arranged debut failed to launch a straight pop career as well as neglecting almost everything people loved about Os Mutantes. After going back to the drawing board in 1972, Rita recruited her Os Mutantes colleagues Arnaldo and Sergio Baptista as well as other members of the music/art commune in which they all lived, to produce the follow-up. As different as day is from night, written by the original Os Mutantes trio of Rita, Arnaldo and Sergio and 'produced and directed' by Arnaldo, this second album is a masterpiece of Tropicalia/ psychedelia with the spooky, comedown atmosphere of 'Smiley Smile' to boot. To all intents and purposes, a virtual 'lost' fifth Os Mutantes album with Rita the dominant force. An amazing return to the perfect organized chaos of their first two albums and a total must-have."

Artist: PRICE & WALSH
Title: Temptation Eyes: The Price & Walsh Songbook
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 156CD
"From forgotten, dusty closets and unorganized publishing vaults comes a Rev-Ola classic. Mike 'Harvey' Price and Dan Walsh -- two hard working Los Angeles-based songwriters -- not only had it in them to pen one of the Grass Roots finest moments ('Temptation Eyes'), they also cut dozens of other gems. The finest cuts are collected here in this first-ever Price & Walsh compendium. The two men explore many avenues here: bubblegum/soft pop/psych/rock and beautiful balladry; unknowingly concocting a masterwork that will intrigue fans of said genres for many years to come. Includes a brilliant, previously-unearthed demo of 'Temptation Eyes' that was the blueprint for the Grass Roots hit version. Also includes several previously-unheard sides that were originally intended to be part of a never-released Gary Zekley produced 1968 LP. This unfinished album was to be L.A.'s answer to Sgt. Peppers, and features classic mindblowing L.A. studio wizardry."

Artist: GILBERTO & WALTER WANDERLEY, ASTRUD
Title: A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 161CD
"Is there any need for an introduction to Astrud Gilberto, The Girl From Ipanema, who brought the nonchalant 'vaga' vocal style of the Brazilian new wave to international attention and launched a thousand indie-girl records and fantasies in a time and place she never imagined.... I think not. As we present her finest album, a collaboration with the space age, Jetsons-go-bossa sound of the immortal Walter Wanderley, Brazil's finest organist/arranger and his excellent trio, augmented by American friend percussionist Bobby Rosengarden (of Miles Davis fame) and bossa nova master João Gilberto on guitar, this is as close as we are going to get to a totally perfect album! The wonderfully erotic vaga stylings of the timeless Astrud whisper from the sci-fi bachelor party soundscapes and unique arrangements of Walter Wanderley in a way that either grabs your heart, or quite frankly, you are dead in the water. Maybe only one or two singers can do this for me....but that's another story!"

Artist: CLIQUE, THE
Title: Sugar On Sunday: The Definitive Collection
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 162CD
"From Texas we have the extraordinary Clique. Produced by Los Angeles-based soft pop legend Gary Zekley (Of Yellow Balloon and Jan & Dean fame!) fresh from his work with those other brilliant Texans, the Fun & Games. Containing strains of bubblegum, psych, pop rock, and soft pop, this fantastic album also features the original version of 'Superman,' the fab Zekley-penned tune later turned into a mega-hit for R.E.M. Also features songs written by Smokey Roberds of the Parade (who had a hit with 1967's 'Sunshine Girl'), Tommy James (who also produces some of the bonus tracks), and Mr. Zekley himself. If this isn't enough, the album -- originally released during the final hours of the White Whale label in 1970 -- also features the Top 20 smash, the Tommy James-penned 'Sugar On Sunday'."

"Younger sister of uber-vocalist and super celebrity Mama Cass Elliott. Wife of numero uno all-star rock drummer Russ Kunkel. Session vocalist extraordinaire (she provided ALL the backing vocals for James Taylor's huge JT album and remains the only female singer to ever sing back-up for Art Garfunkel). Songwriter and master interpreter. Leah Kunkel is all these things...and more!Schooled in the Greenwich Village folk scene where she hung with Fred Neil and John Sebastian, her life was changed by the arrival of The Beatles (wasn't everybody's?) and the international success of her elder sister's band The Mamas & The Papas. Leah visited Cass in Los Angeles and soon found herself among the new generation of Hollywood pop songwriters. She continued writing and demoing into the '70s as well as cultivating a career as an in-demand session vocalist, contributing to records by Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Art Gunfunkel, Dan Hill, Carly Simon and big sister Cass. In 1979 she released her first self-titled solo set, produced by (and featuring) husband Russ and featuring Jackson Browne on back-up vocals. Artist: BAXTER, LES
Title: Ritual of the Savage/The Passions
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 171CD
"The amazing genius of Les Baxter: MOR hit-maker, jazz innovator, member of Mel Torme's innovative Mel-Tones; innovative and acclaimed A&R man and producer to everyone from Yma Sumac to a series of biker movies; electronic music pioneer, and here, the Stravinsky-esque grand master of exotica in his acknowledged masterpiece album Ritual Of The Savage! The inspiration for the entire exotica genre all in one place, here coupled with Baxter's legendary and little-heard tone poem 'The Passions' where vocalist Bas Sheva goes absolutely nuts in a gamut of feelings as Baxter's orchestra spirals to a crescendo of sound!"

Artist: DOBSON, BONNIE
Title: Bonnie Dobson
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 179CD
"Best known as the writer of the apocalyptic '60s folk-rock standard 'Morning Dew,' Canadian Bonnie Dobson became a mover on the Chicago and New York folk revival scenes and released five albums in the acoustic folk style between 1960 and 1964. She returned to Toronto in 1965 and continued playing the coffee house circuit without recording any more albums. By the time 'Morning Dew' was being widely recorded by the likes of Fred Neil & Vince Martin (the first to cover it), Tim Rose, The Grateful Dead, Lulu, The Jeff Beck Group and Episode Six in the late '60s she'd upped sticks and moved to England, home of her songwriter heroes Jackson C. Frank, Ralph McTell and Bert Jansch. Signing to RCA Records, she cut a highly-orchestrated version of 'Morning Dew' at their suggestion for her self-titled 1969 'comeback' album, along with strong original material like 'I'm Your Woman' and 'I Got Stung' and covers of hippy-era folk-rock reliables 'Everybody's Talkin',' 'Let's Get Together' and 'You Never Wanted Me.' Dobson's live UK debut was at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in November 1969 and she became a familiar presence on British and European TV and radio for a couple of years. The 1970 follow-up album Good Morning Rain took her MOR/orchestral folk leanings to their logical conclusion and will appear on Rev-Ola in the near future."

Artist: OCTOPUS
Title: Restless Night: The Complete Pop-Psych Sessions 1967-71
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 180CD
"Octopus' sole 1969 long-player Restless Night is something of a treasure among '60s Brit-psych fans due to its mixture of proto-progressive riffs, accomplished pop tunes and sparkling Beatlesque flourishes. The band evolved out of the thriving Hertfordshire beat scene that also gave us The Zombies, The Gods and those other cult pop-psych heroes Forever Amber. Octopus' music was colored by the use of keyboards and layered vocal harmonies in much the same way. By the time they'd been signed to Larry Page's Penny Farthing label in 1969, their sound had expanded to encompass the burgeoning progressive scene, the dawn of the solo troubadour and the omnipresent influence of The Beatles, illustrated perfectly by their live sets of the period. The first single and album opener 'The River' is a tough dancefloor groover complete with lysergic fuzz guitar and has appeared on several compilations while the album cover art is an eye-opening classic of the 'so bad it's good' school. Much to the band's horror, they discovered that Page had released a bastardized version of the album which omitted two of the original tracks and added the B-side of the single. Previous re-issues of the album have, not surprisingly, stuck to the erroneous tracklist but here at Rev-Ola we always strive to give you more. So here it is pop pickers, for the first time EVER, the original version of the Octopus album as the band intended... containing previously unheard (and uniformly excellent) tunes plus the usual plethora of previously unreleased bonus tracks, single sides, demos. Our edition also features new and extensive liner notes telling the full-on story of Octopus as they morphed from provincial beat favorites into psychedelic warriors."

Artist: FAMILY TREE, THE
Title: Miss Butters
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 185CD
"A classic of West Coast psych-pop, and a much sought-after gem. After the breakup of San Francisco garage groups The Brogues (Ain't No Miracle Worker), most members went on to Quicksilver Messenger Service; bassist Bill Whittington formed The Family Tree with Bob Segarini of The Ratz and the enigmatic Lee Michaels. The latter soon dropped out, and a couple of innovative singles for the mysterious L.A.-based Mira label brought them to the attention of not only RCA, but Sunbury music's Dick Campbell and his friend and big hope, Harry Nilsson. With input from Harry (at this time being hailed as a genius by The Beatles and writing songs for everyone from The Monkees and The Turtles on down) the band embarked on the semi-conceptual album Miss Butters, an amazing semi-lost gem of West Coast psych-pop genius and certainly on a par with Harry Nilsson's own records of the period. First time EVER on CD for this enigmatic and collectable group. Beautifully remastered from the original mono mastertapes (the stereo mix was done by an assistant engineer alone and is a travesty, according to the band members!). Amazing packaging, including previously-unpublished photos and in-depth liner notes with the participation of the legendary Bob Segarini. A must for all fans of West Coast psych-pop and garage, and Harry Nilsson. Let's face it, if you were excited about The Merry Go Round, here's another slice of happiness for ya."

Artist: GORDIAN KNOT, THE
Title: The Gordian Knot
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 186CD
"Originally from Mississippi, the Gordian Knot emerged in Los Angeles in 1967. They recorded this fascinating hybrid of Association-esque soft pop/soft psych/country rock with L.A.'s finest studio musicians and the Hi-Lo's own Clark Burroughs in the producer's chair. The result is the finest harmony pop psych offering in the entire Verve catalog. Fronted by Jim Weatherly -- who just a few years later would pen Gladys Knight's finest moment, 'Midnight Train To Georgia,' the Gordian Knot entertained countless in-crowd L.A. parties frequented by Hollywood's elite, and performed as part of a USO tour throughout Vietnam with friend and fan Nancy Sinatra."

Artist: HAWKINS, DALE
Title: L.A., Memphis & Tyler, Texas
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: CRREV 188CD
"Well, Dale Hawkins, out of Louisiana... yeah, everyone knows 'Suzie Q,' the megahit classic song written and recorded in 1957 by Dale and James Burton... and covered by EVERYONE! And some people know of Dale's successful production career with the likes of Mouse & The Traps, 5 Americans, Bruce Channel, Ronnie Self, Michael Nesmith and Harry Nilsson... a few even know of his years as a top DJ, TV host, and major label A&R man (for Bell and RCA), but even they will be surprised by this amazing album! Cut on his travels whilst producing all manner of records in the three Music Cities of the title, L.A., Memphis, & Tyler, Texas is a triumph of 1969 simmering swamp-rock/blues brilliance! Cut in three classic and legendary rock n' roll studios -- Joe Osborne's in L.A. (famed for the lost Jan and Dean album Save For A Rainy Day and the first Carpenters recordings!), Ardent in Memphis (home of so many legendary soul sessions, and the cult genius of Big Star), and Robin Hood Brians' in Tyler, Texas (home of so many garage legends and soul/country classics!). Featuring old pal James Burton (on the cusp of swapping sessioneering for the Elvis TCB Band!) and L.A. stalwarts Joe Osborne and Ry Cooder, as well as Taj Mahal, Mouse And The Traps and legendary soul horn player Wayne Jackson, all giving their best for an icon of blues, R&B and rockabilly. With intensified sound, innovative packaging, and a detailed liner note by Tim Tooher, this is an album you need in your life! Contemporary and on an artistic par with Dusty In Memphis and From Elvis In Memphis this is truly a missing link in rock and soul history!"

Artist: HAZZARD, TONY
Title: Tony Hazzard Sings Tony Hazzard
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 190CD
"Tony Hazzard's songs are known to millions. During his first flurry of pop success in the mid-late '60s he scored huge hits with 'Ha! Ha! Said The Clown' and 'Fox On The Run' for Manfred Mann, 'Listen To Me' for The Hollies, 'Me The Peaceful Heart' for Lulu, 'Hello World' for The Tremeloes and 'You Won't Be Leaving' for Herman's Hermits. In addition, his 'The Sound Of The Candyman's Trumpet' was recorded by Cliff Richard and entered into the 1968 Eurovision Song Contest (note the word SONG there, folks). 'Maria Elena' was beautifully rendered by the great Gene Pitney while the Jimmy Page-led Yardbirds turned Tony's 'Goodnight Sweet Josephine' into a psych-pop classic. Simon Dupree & The Big Sound, The Casuals, The Family Dogg, Cherry Smash and The (formerly Swinging) Blue Jeans all turned to Hazzard's effortless pop tunes in the late '60s too. In the midst of all this success as a writer, Tony somehow found time to polish up a dozen or so of his demos (themselves things of fully formed wonder as played by the top session cats of the day) and thus was born his first 'solo' LP, Tony Hazzard Sings Tony Hazzard, released in 1969. It features all of the aforementioned mega-hits and a selection of other equally worthy pop gems as rendered by Tony, his band and pals like Jimmy Page and The Hollies' Tony Hicks. Bizarrely, the fickle pop kids of '69 opted not to buy the long-player and it was consigned to an early grave, only to enjoy a supernatural second coming in the '90s as rabid '60s pop collectors tripped over each other in the rush to secure copies which now change hands for silly money on the rare occasions they turn up. Produced with Tony's full co-operation and featuring ultra-rare non-LP single sides and brand new, in-depth liner notes by Rev-Ola's very own Andy Morten, this is a must for all lovers of pure '60s pop thrills."

"Is there any need for an introduction to Astrud Gilberto, The Girl From Ipanema, who brought the nonchalant 'Vaga' vocal style of the Brazilian New Wave to international attention and launched a thousand indie-girl records and fantasies in a time and place she never imagined? Rev-Ola proudly presents the second in our series of Astrud Gilberto's wonderful albums, described as her best album by none other than popmeister Duglas T. Stewart of The BMX Bandits. Well, it IS simply amazing. A move into softpop rendered in her trademark sexy style but with the surprising addition of some pretty funky playing. As her tenure at famed jazz label Verve was running down, her versions of songs by The Beatles, Bee Gees, Margo Guryan and The Doors gave a new slant to her amazing talents... simply lovely! Wonderfully remastered in the most painstaking Rev-Ola style!"

Artist: JAWBONE
Title: Jawbone
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 195CD
"Jawbone was born from the ashes of The Mirage and Turquoise, two of the UK's greatest cult pop-psych bands (and both recently anthologized on RPM and Rev-Ola respectively) and their lone 1970 album rounds off their stories perfectly. When 'How's Ya Pa?' was released as a single in early 1970, it was credited to yet another new moniker, Jawbone. Typically for this period, Dave Hynes had become obsessed by The Band and set about re-modelling the group in their image. Consequently, titles like 'Honeysuckle Redwood Cabin,' 'Homestead' and 'Mister Custer' came thick and fast, bearing the distinct influences of The Band and The Byrds. On the flipside, Jeff Peters' yearning, Dylanesque 'Song For Sunny' sounds like a top-notch Turquoise out-take, 'Brave White Knight' blends Donovan, Simon & Garfunkel and 'Greensleeves' to thrilling effect and the superb version of The Beatles' 'Across The Universe' is chock full of flanged vocals, wah-wah guitar and all manner of glorious psychedelic trickery. The album has now become a bona fide British pop-psych curio and a true collector's item, commanding up to £500 a copy!"

Artist: SUNDOWNERS, THE
Title: Captain Nemo
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 201CD
"This mysterious band has become something of a legend in its own lunchtime. The Sundowners released a string of singles between 1966 and 1968 and the amazing 1968 album Captain Nemo which blends Beatlesque melodies, West Coast cool, frantic showmanship, psychedelic production flourishes and a mile-wide cheeky grin. They also appeared in the Tony Curtis movie Don't Make Waves (the one with The Byrds theme tune) and the popular TV shows It Takes A Thief and The Flying Nun. As if that wasn't enough, they toured with The Monkees and Jimi Hendrix! Quite how a band this good with these credentials slipped so far off the radar in the intervening years is a mystery. However, us splendid fellows at Rev-Ola have leapt to the rescue by issuing this neglected gem on CD for the first time ever and have wrapped it all up in the kind of dazzling audio and visual package you've grown to expect from us. How could we not? First time ever on CD!"

"Picture this: Britain in the pre-punk 1970s -- most of the supergroups of rock have become too vast and trunkless to mean much to the average music fan really in their hearts. An odd time, when the secret master beloved by all was Alex Harvey, and up and down the country, every night, small-time bands kept the spirit alive; playing R&B, prog, folk rock, you name it, they didn't give up the music they loved -- but record labels didn't really get it -- giving rise to the phenomenon nowadays loved by collectors -- the private press record. Savings were sunk into these dreams and souvenirs for fans, and more, love. Agnes Strange were one of the best and most unusual (and at the same time archetypal) of these bands; even here they were different. THEIR private press label was a bizarre joint venture between a major label and a chain of Real Ale pubs. With producer and well-known scholar of 1950s rock'n'roll -- Dave Travis at the recording controls, it was never going to be ordinary! Much bootlegged, pirated and faked by collectors' labels, here for the first time, with the full involvement of Dave Travis and the band, is the REAL story of Agnes Strange."

Catalog #: CRREV 217CD
...What's The Rush, Time Machine Man? "From the producers of recently-lauded Brit-psych releases by Turquoise, Octopus, Tony Hazzard, Jawbone, The Knack, Graham Gouldman and Tuesday's Children comes this first-time archival collection of lost masters, demos and acetates from the late '60s; the first in a series if we have things our way. Most of the acts here need little introduction -- here's a few: Tintern Abbey's lone 1967 single 'Beeside'/'Vacuum Cleaner' is legendary; here are both sides of its scrapped follow-up and a brace of contemporary demos. The Majority are fast becoming favorites of many collectors following the reissue of their later recordings as Majority One and the cult status of their classic 'One Third'; here are four previously-unreleased tracks that will elevate them even further. The Paradox are best known for recording the song 'Mary Calinto' before The Ugly's made it one of the rarest Brit-psych singles of all time; here it is along with three previously-unreleased cuts including the stupendous 'What's The Rush, Dillbury?' The Penny Peeps cut the classic single 'Model Village' and numbered future Jethro Tull guitarist Martin Barre in their ranks; here are three more slices of cranked-up flower pop. Twenty slices of impossibly rare British pop-psych, all previously-unreleased at the time! Features such luminaries as Tintern Abbey, Rupert's People, Honeybus and The Majority! Curated by Stefan Granados and Andy Morten -- you know it makes sense! Beautifully restored from a bewildering selection of acetates, tapes and wax discs and dazzlingly packaged in the tried and tested Rev-Ola fashion! A must for all fans of British pop, psych, freakbeat, blue-eyed soul and general weird 'n' wonderful archival recordings from the original psychedelic era!"

Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 227CD
"In a previous life in 1968 -- when she was an ambitious hippie folkie known simply as Jennifer -- she became a regular on U.S. TV hit The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour where she sang with guests including Donovan, Glen Campbell, Kris Kristofferson, Dion, John Hartford and Mason Williams. The same year she appeared in the Los Angeles production of the musical Hair and launched her solo recording career with the album I Remember Everything which features Jennifer's sun-kissed re-workings of songs by The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Bee Gees and Joni Mitchell, amongst others. Her 1969 follow up See Me, Feel Me, Touch Me, Heal Me features more of her unique soulful take on songs by The Who, Bob Dylan and from Hair. Here we have two collectable orchestral soft pop gems together on one CD; re-mastered in the time-honored Rev-Ola tradition and featuring brand new in-depth liner notes and tons of rare photos and memorabilia! A must for all fans of femme pop, soft pop, hippie folk and great, great singing!"

Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 234CD
"After our amazing release by the legendary Mars Bonfire, here is a follow-up of sorts -- now listen carefully -- Dennis Edmonton, drummer Jerry Edmonton and bass player Nick St. Nicholas had all played together in Toronto 'British Invasion' band, Jack London & The Sparrows in 1965. When the group split from singer Jack London, they added new members, going through a succession of future Canadian music stars, even swapping members back and forth with the legendary Mynah Birds, before settling on permanent members John Kay and Goldy McJohn. Soon, their new, high energy blues-rock style got them the attention of Rolling Stones agent Jerry Brandt, who got them a prestige gig at Sybil Burton's hot nightclub Arthur in the summer of 1966. A deal with Columbia Records followed, with a single 'Tomorrow's Ship' being the result. It failed to chart, as did the followup 'Green Bottle Lover,' and The Sparrow decamped for California, playing at every legendary venue with everyone you care to mention, to a fair amount of acclaim. In June 1967, however, Dennis Edmonton announced his decision to go solo, changing his name to Mars Bonfire. This effectively fragmented the group, with St. Nicholas and new guitarist Michael Monarch joining members of the Hard Times as T.I.M.E., though Monarch soon left to join the other Sparrows in their new project, Steppenwolf, who broke through with songs written by Mars Bonfire like 'Born To Be Wild' and were soon rejoined by St. Nicholas. And so it was that all the members of The Sparrow were involved in the phenomenal success of Steppenwolf! A twisty, turny story, but, oh my, is the music worth it! The full Columbia recordings of The Sparrow including the lost audition tapes! Includes the first full-on rock recording of 'The Pusher' later made famous by Steppenwolf. Beautifully remastered in true Rev-Ola style, with lovely packaging as usual! First time UK release for this legendary band!"

"When visionary UK underground scene-maker and entrepreneur Joe Boyd started making records under his own Witchseason banner in 1967, he could have had little idea of the staggering amount of uber-influential artists he would go on to produce over the next few years. Step up Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, The Incredible String Band, Sandy Denny, Vashti Bunyan, Nico and Dr. Strangely Strange to name but a few. He licensed most of these records out to the super-cool Island label where they joined the likes of Traffic, John Martyn and The Amazing Blondel and unwittingly formed the backbone of the now hugely revered and collectable British folk-rock movement of the late '60s and '70s. First issued in the '90s and promptly deleted, this set features tracks from such great albums as Fairport Convention's Liege & Lief and What We Did On Our Holidays, Nick Drake's Pink Moon, John Martyn's The Tumbler, The Incredible String Band's Earthspan, Richard & Linda Thompson's I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight, Traffic's John Barleycorn Must Die, Sandy Denny's Sandy, Fotheringay's Fotheringay, Mike Heron's Smiling Men With Bad Reputations and many more seminal cornerstones of the era. An updated and intensified re-working of this lost Island Records folk-rock sampler, re-mastered in the usual Rev-Ola style! Features rare tracks unavailable on CD elsewhere!"

Format: CD

Catalog #: CRREV 242CD
"The man who had wowed America, challenged Elvis, launched rock n' roll in Britain and France and inspired a generation, was seen in his native land as a bit of a has-been. His audience was the French arty intelligentsia and UK Teds, but there were still those who believed in Gene, one was Kama Sutra, the New York label who brought us The Lovin' Spoonful and Gene fanatics The Flamin' Groovies (and obliquely The Shangri-Las too, but that's another story...). In 1969 and 1970, they put Gene in their newly-acquired L.A. studio with the cream of young session men to produce an album. Taking a cue from The Band, Bob Dylan, The Sir Douglas Quintet, and possibly fellow not-as-old-as-you-might-think rocker, Dale Hawkins (who had just had an amazing album out himself), Gene rose to the occasion big time! Possibly one of the most unexpected and astonishing albums of roots rock and Americana, is what we have here with Gene in good form as ever!"

Artist: JULY
Title: July
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 243CD
"Having started out as a skiffle act from Ealing and called The Playboys, they then became an R&B combo, The Tomcats. John (Speedy) Keen, (Thunderclap Newman) was in them for a while and then in 1966, The Tomcats went to Spain with a new line-up (one which became the future July one). As Los Tomcats, they got in the charts with four EPs, one of which was all in Spanish! They then returned to the UK in 1968, still basing themselves in Ealing and changed their name to July. As July, they recorded what later became one of the most sought-after British psychedelic '60s albums of all time. One that was originally released in the UK on Major Minor in 1968 and also issued in the USA/Canada on Epic and even released in Brazil. The album's main appeal is its haunting brand of psychedelia and Rev-Ola are delighted to announce that this special CD issue has four bonus tracks. The gorgeous package is also enhanced by a quantity of previously unpublished photographs and some highly-informative CD booklet notes by '60s pop-sike expert David Wells."

Artist: GILLESPIE, DANA
Title: Box of Surprises
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 245CD
"In 1964 Dana Gillespie recorded her first single for Pye, with Donovan on guitar and became a regular on the folk circuit along with friends Donovan and David Bowie. She recalls: 'I was doing folk because I couldn't afford a band and I hadn't found my musical niche.' In those early years Dana got to know many of the top bands and people in the music business, appearing on Ready Steady Go and other cool TV shows of the era along with the legends of the British pop explosion. Following up our classic reissue of Dana's U.S.-only album, Foolish Seasons, here is the UK only counterpart, 1968's Box of Surprises! Again featuring the same cast of 1960s Brit-pop legends and morphing seamlessly from her baroque pop and freakbeat styles to sophisticated blues. A LONG overdue reissue! As a special bonus, all her insanely rare and crazily collectable Pye Records single sides are included! What more can you possibly want?"

Artist: BURDON & THE ANIMALS, ERIC
Title: Winds of Change
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 246CD
"In these more cynical times, it is easy to see this seminal album in a somewhat ambivalent light. Everybody's favorite Geordie hellraiser, Eric Burdon caught on the cusp between being Britain's bluesmeister supreme and being Hitler out of The Producers? Surely not! Yet there is so much more here: two international hit singles, garage blues and psychedelic jams to match anyone. Produced by bizarrely unsung Dylan/Zappa/Velvets producer Tom Wilson. OK, so the dramatic recitations in a Brian Blessed meets Byker stylee have dated a wee bit, but this is as amazing a forgotten gem as the 2 albums THEM made on Tower around the same time -- yep, that good! Indiscriminately veering from the brilliant to the banal, often in the space of the same song, Psychedelic Eric's vinyl adventures have always split critical opinion. We at RevOla see the funny side alright, but this is a brilliant album, have no doubts. Intriguing, controversial notes by acclaimed psych historian David Wells. A must for all students of social history AND lovers of crazy psych freakout -- can you get better than that?"

Artist: HONEYBUS
Title: Story
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 249CD
"In recent years, Honeybus have outgrown the one-hit wonder tag that plagued them for years and become one of the most treasured British bands of the late '60s. Sure, 'I Can't Let Maggie Go' represents a high watermark of intelligent pop records reaching the top ten, but there's so much else besides. The band cut three singles in 1967 and '68, written and fronted by Pete Dello who promptly quit after 'Maggie' hit and embarked on a fascinating and complex solo career. Not to be outdone, the band re-grouped and cut three further singles and an album that almost never got released. The story goes that upon their split in early 1970, somebody at their label, Deram Records, heard the recordings and demanded that it be released. And hence it was, posthumously and to little fanfare in 1970. Blending the kind of pure, crystalline folk-tinged baroque pop that had characterized most of their singles with flashes of psychedelia, country and bubblegum, the twelve songs that make up Story are uniformly stunning creations, played with skill and confidence, arranged for strings and woodwind and blessed with a sympathetic, understated production. We've added all 11 non-album Deram single sides, restored the original album artwork and told the Honeybus story with input from the band themselves."

Artist: GREEN, KATHE
Title: Run the Length of Your Wildness
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 250CD
"Wow! Something of a major discovery here, we thinks. Californian actress/model/singer Kathe Green cut this hugely sought-after but rare-as-hell long player for Deram in 1969 after having appeared in The Party with Peter Sellers. Finding herself in London as guest and bosom buddy of Richard Harris, himself enjoying a spin-off career as a hugely successful pop star at the time, Kathe found herself singing Mark Lester's vocal parts on 'Where Is Love?' for the soon-to-be-massive Oliver soundtrack. She was snapped up by Deram where she was teamed up with in-house whizz-kid producer Wayne Bickerton, arranger supreme John Cameron and the cream of London session players. Kathe wrote 10 of the album's 13 tracks, which recall all manner of contemporary female vocalists of the time, from Marianne Faithfull to Sandie Shaw to Dana Gillespie (with whom Kathe shared Bickerton's production savvy, not to mention a couple of his tunes). She also turns in a lump-to-the-throat reading of Cameron's perennial 'If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind.' Housed in a striking sleeve which featured gushing notes by the likes of Peter Sellers, Rex Harrison and Simon Dee and named after a line of poetry bestowed on her by Richard Harris himself, Run The Length Of Your Wildness disappeared as quickly as it had come, only being picked up on through internet exposure over the last year or so. Produced in conjunction with Kathe herself, Rev-Ola is proud, nay humbled, to present the first-ever reissue of this lost late '60s femme pop classic!"

Artist: MASON, DAVE
Title: Alone Together
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 251CD
"One-time Kim Fowley protégé, one-time Spencer Davis guitar tech, Dave Mason was a key and founding member of psych/pop/funk/soul/fusion legends, Traffic. The writer of many of the band's early classics, including the timeless and much-covered 'Feelin Alright?,' Mason was the first to leave due to the classic 'musical differences.' Moving to the U.S., his first solo album was one of the many recordings to come out of the Leon Russell/Delaney & Bonnie axis in 1969/1970. Alone Together contains excellent, tightly-constructed pop songs, redolent of his singles for Traffic, albeit extended in the then new style, built on a fat bed of acoustic guitars with tasteful electric guitar accents. Mason's vocals are embellished with harmonies from Rita Coolidge, Claudia Lennear and Delaney & Bonnie. Besides the hit 'Only You Know and I Know,' (also a hit for Delaney & Bonnie) highlights include the bouncy gospel-inflected 'Waitin' On You' and the banjo-bejeweled 'Just a Song.' 'Look at You Look at Me' and the wonderfully wah-wahed 'Shouldn't Have Took More Than You Gave' are reminiscent of Traffic, whose drummer, Jim Capaldi is among the all-star cast assembled here. Alone Together represents Dave Mason at something of an early peak."

Artist: BERBERIAN, JOHN
Title: Middle Eastern Rock
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 254CD
"Yep, it's John Berberian, Master of the oud! Long before there was any such thing as 'world music,' John was experimenting in his native New York City, both within the traditional Armenian music community, and with folk, rock and jazz musicians who admired his oud artistry. And so this unknown gem, Middle Eastern Rock! Unsympathetically packaged as almost some kind of oldschool belly-dance meets raga rock record, it is in fact a masterpiece of the highest order. Full of multi-percussive grooves on drums and dumbeg, searing solos from fuzz guitars and of course, John on the oud. Not a duff moment on the entire album. I cannot urge you more to experience this record! Wonderfully re-mastered at Studio 3 by Norman Blake (yes, that one)! Lovely repackaging by Pepperbox!"

Artist: MASON & CASS ELLIOT, DAVE
Title: Dave Mason & Cass Elliot
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 255CD
"A deceptive one this! Originally planned as a Dave Mason solo album, it is certainly one of his finest and coupling him with Cass Elliot was an utter stroke of genius, as she goes from being 'just' producer and backing vocalist to being the shining guest star of the album. Cass provides excellent background vocals on her non-lead songs alongside sister Leah Kunkel making up an impressive harmony stack. The album is propelled by Mason's superb songwriting talents and tracks such as 'On and On,' 'Walk to the Point,' and several others bear this out. His guitar playing is some of his finest recorded work, especially the epic 'Glittering Façade,' where he layers acoustic and electric guitars to a scintillating effect. Elliot's 'Here We Go Again' showcases her ability as an outstanding lead vocalist, showing just what a star we lost. Paul Harris provides some excellent keyboard and string arrangements providing a glimpse of fine work that was to follow in Stephen Stills' Manassas. The rest of the stellar backing crew outdo themselves. A highly underrated album, but in the end, one of the finest of the 1970s. And one with a shockingly modern soundscape. Beautifully remastered."

Artist: LOLLIPOP SHOPPE, THE
Title: Just Colour
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 256CD
"One of the must have garage rock classics! Originally known as The Weeds and featuring Fred 'Deep Soul' Cole, The Lollipop Shoppe sound amazingly modern! After The Weeds signed to UNI Records, their new manager, the infamous 'Lord' Tim Hudson, insisted they change their name to The Lollipop Shoppe to fit in with the current trend of bizarrely named bubblegum groups. The band's actual recordings are hardly bubblegum, but instead a mix of crunching garage rock and wild psychedelia. The album and its single, 'You Must Be a Witch,' are period classics and still prized by collectors, though neither made the charts. The band opened for stars such as Janis Joplin and The Doors, and appeared in the biker movie Angels from Hell. They were to regroup as The Weeds once out of 'Lord' Tim's clutches, and Fred Cole was to lead cult band Dead Moon. But it is for this, the classic Just Colour, that The Lollipop Shoppe are justly acclaimed. Wonderfully re-mastered in top Rev-Ola style and with lovely packaging that features plenty of rare photos and memorabilia!"

Artist: GARNETT AND THE GENTLE REIGN, GALE
Title: Gale Garnett and the Gentle Reign
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 257CD
"Like a lot of folk-pop performers who began their careers in the early- to mid-'60s, by the end of the decade Gale Garnett seemed to have drifted into the rock and psychedelic scene, hooking up with the band The Gentle Reign to cut these two bizarre albums for CBS. Singer, journalist, actress (from cult '60s movie Mad Monster Party to My Big Fat Greek Wedding), star of Scopitones (check YouTube for some delights!), Gale Zoe Garnett is a marvel and a one-off. Listening to this album one has to wonder who is she taking on here? Bobby Gentry with her smoky voice and good looks, Grace Slick with her swooping rock stylings, or even Frank Zappa with the satirical tone and radio acting? Gale Garnett is a law unto herself. Rev-Ola is proud to bring you her two undeservedly obscure late '60s albums with The Gentle Reign, a mere smidgen of the woman's immense and unique talent. Re-mastered in top Rev-Ola style by Norman Studio 3 Blake and with beautiful repackaging for a beautiful lady! Includes both amazing albums in their entirety! A must for all fans of out-there psych, sexy femme pop, avant-garde stylings and cult '60s artifacts!"

Artist: Q65
Title: The Best Of Nothing But Trouble 1966-68
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 258CD
"From Den Haag (The Hague) in Holland, Q65 were among the country's wildest beat groups of the 1960s. Their firebrand approach to the beat and rhythm 'n blues boom was the opposite of what most of the country's successful pop group fraternity were putting over at the time; best represented with the unpolished, raw intensity of You're The Victor, their 1966 debut for Decca which shook up the charts and caused shockwaves throughout the nation's living rooms. They continued to crack the top end of the Dutch pop charts with killer singles such as The Life I Live, and I Despise You; took part in a crazy record company promotional stunt crossing the sea from England in a rubber dinghy, and in Revolution, created one of the best debut LPs of the era. The group split up early and although they would make several comebacks as Q65, and also as Circus, and continue to make several records well into the 1970s, the initial magic had gone. To this day the power and impenetrable charm of the original Q65 remains unsurpassed. Visually re-mastered in the usual huge Rev-Ola style! Beautifully packaged with oodles of rare photos and memorabilia! In-depth liner notes by Sir Lenny Helsing with input from the band themselves! An absolute 100% necessity for all fans of '60s garage, R & B, beat, psych and Euro sounds. Unmissable!"

Artist: 5TH DIMENSION, THE
Title: The Magic Garden
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 259CD
"Here at Rev-Ola we re proud to present this true undisputed classic of orchestrated, psych-tinged soft pop. The 5th Dimension are one of the most successful American bands of the late '60s. Hey, everybody knows their hit versions of 'Up, Up And Away' and 'Aquarius!' However, in 1968 they were teamed up with producer Bones Howe and wunderkind composer/arranger/all-round bona fide musical genius beyond redoubt, Jimmy Webb, who presented them with a complex song cycle based on his own tumultuous relationship with his partner. Nestling between such dyed-in-the-wool classics as 'Carpet Man,' 'The Girls Song,' 'The Worst That Could Happen' (which all became hit singles for other artists) and the life-affirming title track (as covered by Dusty Springfield no less) are such lesser-spotted Webb gems as Summer s Daughter and Paper Cup . The whole cycle is linked with beautifully ornate pieces of orchestration, sitar flourishes and ethereal vocals. The contractual obligation inclusion of an earlier recording of The Beatles 'Ticket To Ride' was originally shoehorned into the middle of the running order but we've taken the liberty of shuffling it to the end so it no longer interrupts the flow of the cycle. One hears accolades like great albums of the '60s bandied around willy-nilly these days but on this occasion we can state it with confidence."

Artist: CARTER, SUSAN
Title: Wonderful Deeds and Adventures
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 260CD
"Along with the likes of Jackie DeShannon, Cass Elliot and Joni Mitchell, Susan Carter was an integral part of the late 1960s Laurel Canyon scene, a veritable 'Lady Of The Canyon.' Carter captured the attention of Epic Records, who teamed her with producer Les Carter and arranger Dick Halligan (of Blood, Sweat & Tears fame). Recorded in New York, her 1970 debut Wonderful Deeds and Adventures - A Collection of Stirring Scene and Moving Accidents was certainly that and more -- something of an era timepiece. It was also interesting in that, with backing from Randy Brecker and most of BS&T, material such as Donovan's 'Young Girl Blues,' James Taylor s 'Brighten Your Day with My Night' and 'Medley for Billie Holiday' found Carter working in the blues and jazz genres years before Joni Mitchell and other contemporaries made such a move. Carter certainly had a powerful and versatile voice, capable of handling a wide variety of genres and her crystalline voice occasionally recalled Laura Nyro. Wonderful remaster of this outstanding album! A must for all fans of hippie femme vocals: Nancy Priddy, Susan Carter, Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell."

Artist: TOKENS, THE
Title: Both Sides Now
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 261CD
"The title kind of gives the game away here, it being somewhat a game of two halves! A semi concept follows the title of the exquisite baroque cover of the Joni Mitchell tune. The Tokens are pictured on the cover in off-duty mode, casually dressed and with a cigar on the go. Side one consists of more baroque reworkings of modern folk rock standards, covering label mates Melanie and The Lemon Pipers creditably, as well as doing a stripped down beauty of a cover of 'Don't Worry Baby,' which surely influenced The Beach Boys later live revamps of their early repertoire. Side two revisits The Tokens past in the manner of their later Oldies Are Now! project, with their first two hits 'Tonight I Fell In Love' and 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight,' and their soft-pop masterpiece 'I Hear Trumpets Blow' among others, being reinvented in the style of side one. Altogether a most satisfying and poptastic album showcasing old hands at the peak of their powers. A must for all fans of soft pop, New York pop, Baroque pop, and top vocal group masterpieces!"

Artist: ROKES, THE
Title: Let's Live For Today: The Rokes In English 1966-68
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 262CD
"The Rokes were Brits who went to Italy in 1963 and became one of the biggest bands in the land for the rest of the decade. They chalked up numerous Italian language hits and recorded four albums as well as becoming an enormous live draw and TV favorite. However, scattered across those albums were a number of English language songs that somehow came off sounding like a Euro-tinged blend of The Beatles, Hollies, Kinks and Pretty Things. In '67, The Rokes released the first English language version of 'Let's Live For Today,' a song they'd already cut in Italian. It went on to become a huge U.S. hit in the hands of The Grass Roots and was covered by scores of bands. Rollicking beat gems like 'No No No' and 'Ride On' slowly morphed into more sophisticated fair such as the sitar-drenched 'Ripe Apples' and the sinister psychedelic rocker 'When The Wind Arises,' both of which were released in the UK in a belated attempt to break them here. Here, for the first time on CD, are virtually all of The Rokes' English language recordings from 1966 to 1968. Re-mastered by Nick Robbins in the usual exemplary style. In-depth liner notes by '60s beat fiend Stefan Granados and features lots of rare photos and memorabilia. A must for all lovers of '60s beat, pop and psych."

Artist: PEPPERMINT RAINBOW, THE
Title: Will You Be Staying After Sunday
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 263CD
"Baltimore quintet The Peppermint Rainbow scored a U.S. Top 10 hit in 1969 with the super-groovy 'Will You Be Staying After Sunday.' Produced by 'Green Tambourine' hit maker Paul Leka, the album that followed featured 10 more slices of juicy bubblegum pop including a second Top 10 smash, 'Don't Wake Me Up In The Morning, Michael.' The band cut two further singles both added here but by late '69s it was all over as the sound of love faded from the airwaves. First time on CD in the UK for this bubblegum classic. Re-mastered by Norman 'I'll 'ave you Butler' Blake. Liner notes by popmeister supreme Duglas T. Stewart! Lovely packaging by Pepperbox. Essential for all fans of U.S. bubblegum, harmony pop and just plain full-on grooviness."

Artist: LEMON PIPERS, THE
Title: Love Beads And Meditation
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 264CD
"Yes, you read that right. The Lemon Pipers! The undisputed kings of bubblegum psych are welcomed at Rev- Ola like old, old friends. It's a pleasure chaps. OK, you know the score. 'Green Tambourine'; massive hit everywhere; covered by 1001 artists; dyed-in-the-wool classic. 'Rice Is Nice,' 'Jelly Jungle,' those sweet and soft hits just kept coming. But behind the grins of Ohio's happy hippie hit makers was a down and dirty psychedelic rock band, a caged beast straining to get out. Just listen to the likes of 'Fifty Year Void,' 'No Help From Me' and the eardrum-frying 'Through With You' for proof. Love Beads And Meditation combines their two albums, Green Tambourine and Jungle Marmalade, which mashed up those Paul Leka-helmed soft pop bubblegum gems (listen to 'Rainbow Tree' and 'Love Beads And Meditation' and try not to smile - it's impossible!) with the band's growling rock tendencies and confused the hell out of everybody. Forty years later it's easier to take them at face value and enjoy them for what they are - great late '60s pop records. First time UK twofer of classic bubblegum psych LPs. Re-mastered by Norman Blake at the mysterious Studio 3. Brand new in-depth liner notes and lots of pretty pictures, and is an absolute must for fans of bubblegum, psych, pop and classic US '60s sounds."

"As a girl-about-L.A. and singer with the wonderful Smith, Gayle McCormick had it all. And here on her wonderful Lambert-Potter produced first album from 1971, you have it too! In the midst of producing The Four Tops, Evie Sands and Dusty Springfield, Lambert and Potter were on a roll, providing a glossy Hollywood take on Northern Soul which makes even the songs you might think are too well trodden absolutely vital! Possibly the best ever version of 'Superstar' too and you know how good that means! A classic pop/soul album, much in demand in DJ circles! Wonderfully mastered in top Rev-Ola style! Wonderful artwork by Pepperbox! A must for all fans of Evie Sands, Dusty Springfield and soulful femme pop of all sorts!"

Artist: RYAN, PAUL & BARRY
Title: Two Of A Kind
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 268CD
"Yep, it's Paul and Barry Ryan! Pop puppet scenesters, or proto-freakbeat pioneers? The jury has been out for long enough. Although their singles were often kind of old-fashioned and MOR, their almost-forgotten albums are chock full of swinging London gems that recall everyone from The Kinks and The Who to The Walker Brothers and Tom Jones! Songs from happening pop figures like The Yardbirds and The Hollies vie with ones from top behind-the-scenes writers as the boys give it their all. These guys were so much more than a boy band! Classic album by swinging London's foremost pop twins! Never before released on CD! Featuring day-glo stereo mixes, painstakingly remastered in our best Rev-Ola style! The usual sumptuous packaging with tons of rare memorabilia and photos! A must for anyone with even the slightest interest in classy '60s Brit-pop!"

Artist: ROE, TOMMY
Title: Paisley Dreams: The Pop-Psych Sounds Of Tommy Roe
Label: REV-OLA (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CRREV 269CD
"On that vital cusp of 1966/67, it seemed everybody wanted to make their very own Pet Sounds-style masterwork -- and bubblegum-meister Tommy Roe was no exception. Coming off a formidable run of hits, Roe was able to enter the studio with Millennium wunderkind Curt Boettcher and his team (later to become both The Ballroom and Goldenrod) to record It's Now Winter's Day. Bizarrely sounding more like a group effort than a solo album, replete with theremins, fuzz guitar, strings and general psych bendiness, not to mention being entirely composed by Roe, it was a major triumph. The follow-up,Phantasy, upped the ante even further. Here we have both albums, together for the first time, a key piece in the story of the legendary Curt Boettcher and his associates, and a Californian sunshine psych-pop extravaganza in its own right. Beautiful songs, great singing and innovative production. Who could ask for anything more? First official U.K. release of these sunshine psych-pop nuggets! Wonderfully re-mastered in the usual Rev-Ola style! In-depth notes and expansive packaging! A must for any fan of Californian psych pop, sunshine pop, bubblegum, The Millennium, Sagittarius and related classics!"
