SIMPLE 1046EP
One of the most in-demand tracks from the
Technique
album gets a full single release with re-fixes from
Prosumer
and
Kruse & Nuernberg
.
Ernesto
's vocal lends itself to the Prosumer sound -- his mix floats around the vocal, peaking around his own chords before stripping things back to bare essentials and rebuilding. The Kruse & Nuernberg mix is hypnotic, percussive old school house music at its best, taking a snippet of the vocal and building the groove until the room shakes.

MONDAY, MIKE
Title:
Bhalobashi/Argy Remix
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 617EP
"Super-hot UK producer and label-boss of Playtime Mike Monday's latest smash 'Bhalobashi' encapsulates what a 21st century anthemic dance record should be about. Minimal, in the sense that there are a few carefully crafted core elements to the track, each perfectly working off the other. Most important is the power of the hook -- here it's the melody, which manages to capture the feeling of old school motor city soulfulness perfectly. A distinctly new school bassline sits perfectly alongside classic Roland 909 rim shots and claps, driving the track forward whilst providing the balance that's the source of 'Bhalobashi''s futuristic feeling. This track truly gets people's hands in the air at the end of the night, leaving the crowd in a sweaty euphoric mess. Oh yes! For the Argy remix he focuses on the unrelenting nature of one of Mike's lead sounds and crafts a moody, haunting track that's nice and edgy. Sound design is one of the most interesting features that characterizes the current crop of minimal producers and Argy is undoubtedly one of the leaders of the pack. Fully appreciated on a large club sound-system; spacey, futuristic fills jump out at the unsuspecting raver, tickling the listeners' stereo palette."

KING ROC
Title:
Welcome To Zion
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:

Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 620EP
With remixes from Sebo K & Metro. "King Roc aka Martin Dawson, began producing 10 years ago as part of dance act 'Sentience' with Tom Neville and Nick Sentience. For 'Welcome To Zion' you should forget all preconceptions you have of the King Roc sound. 'Welcome To Zion' is slow, captivating, melodic deep house with a truly soulful, hypnotic chord progression and heart warming lead melody that is neatly knitted together with subtle production flashes. Sebo K creates his own distinctive melody line and chord sequence that cleverly draws on early Detroit techno whilst still delicately retaining the un-missable lilt of Martin's original. Warm and heavy drum sounds and careful use of some old school strings push this firmly onto the discerning peak time dance floor. With an unparalleled sense of pulse and soul, Sebo is just beginning to hit his stride."

Pause
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 621EP
With Isolée remix. "Will Saul finally comes back at us with a new track. Since the release of his critically acclaimed album
Space Between
on Simple in 2005, Will has been plying his wares on Systematic and Air and he's just delivered storming remixes of Content on Simple and Chicken Lips. On 'Pause' a rich, analog lead line underpins the whole groove, slowly evolving, flitting between octaves and driving the track forward. At only 122bpm there is real feeling of space, allowing the carefully balanced drums and highly detailed percussive loops to add urgency and detail. Soulful yet haunting chords are worked into the arrangement, intertwining with the lead line to reach a sweaty, euphoric peak. Isolée deconstructs Will's chords, initially only using two from the full sequence, allowing him the musical freedom to switch effortlessly from lush melodic pads to acid laced stabs. Isoleé's unparalleled attention to detail creates a slow burning and truly hypnotic deep house groove that is as much for the head as it is for the feet."

Sequential Circus
Label:

Format:

Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 722EP
"
Sequential Circus
is the first release in a new collaboration between friends and studio buddies Will Saul and Tam Cooper. Since the release of his critically acclaimed album
Space Between
on Simple in 2005, Will has spent most of 2006 engineering Simple's fine release schedule and lovingly coaxing into life his new baby, Aus Music. An EP for Systematic, his single 'Pause' on Simple and remixes of Content (Jesse Rose) and Chicken Lips were his only forays into the production world. Tam has been producing for the past decade under a number of different guises as well as engineering for the great and the good. Fiddling with analog kit is his main passion and he is also a talented drummer and percussionist. Once a teenage raver, Tam has found his way back to house and techno in recent years, enthused by a new wave of artists. For the original a chunky, bumping kick and low tom pattern drive the track while crunchy, metallic percussion sweep around the stereo range lending the track an eerie sci-fi feeling. Wistful, melancholy chords are gradually layered into the mix until a hypnotic lead melody creeps in. As the old synths intertwine, weird and wonderful harmonics are created that can only exist in the analog world. Konrad Black produces a slow and sleazy groove that rolls and bounces in all the right places, Todd's mix simply oozes funk."

COOPER, TAM
Title:
Galactica
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:

Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 723EP
"Tam Cooper has been producing for the past decade under a number of different guises -- as well as engineering for many of the great and the good. His sound is as informed by his years spent on the illegal rave scene as happy hours in the studio tinkering with hardware. 'Galactica' is formed around an undulating bassline that morphs into the lead synth pattern, driving the track forward, and lending 'Galactica' an industrial edge. The spaced-out chords that push the track to its numerous crescendos balance the darkness perfectly whilst adding to the intensity of the arrangement. Less is more. Jimpster takes us to a galaxy far, far away from the original... spaced-out disco with real power and purpose that gradually becomes more euphoric as the mix develops. Last but not least, Exercise One deliver a remix with delicate and subtle layers of melody washing around the bassline. We think this mix has a similar vibe to Mathew Jonson's early techno creations -- power and beauty."
Artist:
ROMBOY, MARC
Title:
Sunburst
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 724EP
"As an artist, producer and label head of Berlin's Systematic Records (amongst others), Marc Romboy has dedicated over a decade of time to pushing forward the boundaries of electronic music, a mission amply continued here with his first release on Will Saul's Simple imprint. Opener 'Sunburst' offers layers of eerie, whispered vocals wrapped around a dark and menacing chord pattern. As the track develops though, the chords open out to bring light to the dancefloor and dramatically change the mood into something wonderfully uplifting. Marc also offers a reduced version of 'Sunburst' as a dub to complete the trip. The Alexkid remix brings some proper old school house vibes to the mix. Alex and his 909 go to work on Marc's stabs to devastating effect. All hands are destined to reach for the lasers when the bass-line drops, and just in time for the summer."
Artist:
PRIESTLEY & DAN BERKSON, JAMES
Title:
Chariots
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 725EP
"James Priestley is best known as co-promoter and resident DJ of London's infamous Secretsundaze club, known as the party of choice by ravers and UK dance media alike. Having toured the globe as one of London's finest young DJ exports, his studio partnership with Dan Berkson is gathering steam, with remixes for the likes of Spektrum being snapped up and licensed by the likes of Loco Dice, DJ T and Alex Neri & Mar-T. Chicago native Dan Berkson arrived in London with a strong jazz background, having been schooled at the esteemed New England Conservatory of Music. Turning his skills to deep electronic house, his productions soon found favor with Steve Bug amongst others and subsequent releases on Poker Flat as well as Crosstown Rebels, Mood Music, Movim, Exun, Gourmet and Household have cemented his reputation as one of UK's finest new wave of producers. 'Chariots,' their Simple debut, is a luscious house treat. Driving percussion and throbbing keys move towards a crescendo through airy synths while the classic piano melody comes in to send the dancefloor to a blissful climax. Soul and melody with a tight little groove, everything we at Simple love! Acclaimed Frankfurt duo Motorcitysoul, who made their Aus debut earlier this summer, turn their hand to the remix. Rotating clicks and punches move towards an ever intensifying push, while melodic whispers gather around the central chord progression, combining to create a deep and dreamy finale."

Simple Sounds EP 1
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 726EP
"To accompany the CD release of
Simple Sounds
, Will Saul presents the first of 3 exclusive and remix 12"s. On this EP is Will's exclusive new track '3000 AD' and Wahoo remixes one of Will's most beautiful tracks from the Simple back catalog. On '3000 AD' lush, inviting pads drift around the stereo pallet before clicks and bleeps introduce the undulating rhythm of the track. As the resonance of the bass line is opened out to a pulsating crescendo, the haunting atmospherics build in intensity. Introspective chords chime around the warped robot voices, creating the soulful yet deeply futuristic sound that characterize Will's productions. For the Wahoo remix of 'Mbira' who better to choose than the head of Will's favorite label (Innervisions) for the remix of one of Will's best known tracks. Dixon keeps the melodies of the original and lends a live and driving percussive feel that his label has become renowned for. His epic arrangement causes maximum dancefloor devastation as first strings then stabs are introduced to push the track to its climax. Wahoo is the Berlin-based duo of Georg Levin & Dixon. They have just released their album
Take It Personal
on Fine Records. Together they have been busy putting the soul back into house music sin."

Simple Sounds EP 2
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 727EP
"On this EP is Will and Tam Cooper's exclusive new track 'Out There' and the Gui Boratto remix of their 'Sequential Circus.' 'Out There' features an arpeggiated chord sequence that drives the track to the breakdown, where the melody switches from soulful to dirty ol' euphoric. The bass line playfully moves around with the chords while sweeping old school strings take us home. It features an unwitting vocal performance from one of Will's favorite producers. 'Sequential Circus' (Gui Boratto Remix): taking just one of Will's original chords and a shard of the melody, Gui builds one of his trademark pulsating, futuristic grooves before opening out the full melody to create an epic dancefloor moment. Brazilian Gui Boratto is an architect, musician, composer and prolific producer. In 2005, he dedicated himself to his own productions and compositions. He came to the attention of the wider electronic community through his releases on Kompakt, where he released his stunning debut album
Chromophobia
to general critical acclaim that saw him wowing the best clubs of the world with his colorful live performances."

Title:
Tech Noir
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 831EP
"Friends and studio partners Will Saul & Tam Cooper are back with their second collaboration on Simple. Will is the man behind Simple and Aus Music, a globetrotting DJ and golden-eared A&R, with a well-known penchant for soul and melody. Tam Cooper has been producing for the past decade under a number of different guises, as well as engineering for the great and the good. Fiddling with the analog kit is his main passion, and he is also a talented drummer and percussionist. As the world of underground dance music goes deep house, this is Will & Tam's attempt at writing something a little darker and a touch more techno than usual. The mainstay of the track is an undulating multilayered bass groove which carries the melody and rhythm. The tension is temporarily punctuated by a melancholic chord sequence before dropping back into the unrelenting bass line groove. While on the flip, we have Jamie Jones: Jamie goes warm and trippy, reinterpreting the groove in his own hi-tek style, complete with Model 500-esque chords, cut-up vocal stabs and perfectly-timed peaks for the dancefloor."
Artist:
LODEMANN, ANDRE
Title:
Wanna Feel EP
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 832EP
"André's first release for Simple Records
Wanna Feel
is all about the resonant, hypnotic bass line that steadily opens out to reveal more layers of harmony. Little sounds and licks of melody dance around the bass while strings and stabs build the hook into one big crescendo. Brooks' melancholic strings cleverly cut up the bass line and an eerie soundscape pushes the vibe of the original into a darker, more sinister techno place. This is the lights out, heads down, touch me in the dark kind of groove that we love! Finally 'Move' is an absorbing and patient deep house gem. Plunging into a backdrop of prodded keys that subtly shift in shape and tone, a central synth melody climbs to euphoric climax before retiring back to waves of throbbing bass and rolling percussive loops. Midlands lad Brooks burst onto the music scene with his debut album
You, Me & Us
for Mantis Recordings back in 2002. Within weeks he was fighting off offers to remix everyone from The Human League to Scissor Sisters, and Andy packed a flightcase to DJ his way across the seedier corners of Northern Europe."
Artist:
RIVERS, JIM
Title:
Mirage
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 833EP
"Jim Rivers hails from London, where he's been stealthily carving out a niche as a DJ at parties from Ministry of Sound to Shindig and spreading the message further with guest spots at clubs from Sao Paulo to Moscow and on to Shanghai. Releasing music since 2006, his tech house styles have found fans among the old and new breed of house DJs and he already has an impressive list of remixes under his belt. Last year saw the launch of his own Misfit Records and he's been developing his studio partnership with Paulo Mojo. 'Mirage': a slow burning house groove with deceptive power. Lush pads give way to a continually morphing Arp line that builds in intensity whilst cleverly intertwining with the stabs to push the track to a heady crescendo. Just in time for the summer. Tobias remix: Tobias twists the sound of the Arp line into a more techno place. He adds his own dubbed out chords that hark back to early Rhythm and Sound and will undoubtedly make your spine tingle at 4am. Berliner Tobias Freund has been involved in the business since 1980 as a sound engineer and techno producer. He is a founding contributor to projects like the Non Standard Institute (NSI) , Sieg Uber Die Sonne, Pink Elln and Odd Machine, releasing everywhere from Cadenza, Ostgut Ton and Logistic to the Finnish label Sähkö, amongst others."
Artist:
POOLEY, IAN
Title:
Nightscape EP
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$13.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 936EP
Ian Pooley makes his debut appearance on Simple to kick start what is shaping up to be a bumper year for the label. 'Nightscape' is a deep, heads down house groove that locks you in with itʼs lovingly crafted percussion and beautifully bouncy bassline, whilst the wistful, melancholic pads are food for the soul. Ianʼs experience in production shines throughout the EP, making the tracks as much of a delight on the head phones as they are on a Function One soundsystem. 'Difference (Jupiter/Eight Mixes)' - Intricate percussive rhythms combine with a rubbery bassline and rich poly stabs to set the tone. Strings build and release the tension and a delicate piano riff brings the soul. The evolution of the patterns sees a heady crescendo for the floor. For the ʻEight Mixʼ Ian reworks the stabs and bass-line and pushes out a more straight ahead groove."

MONDAY, MIKE
Title:
Zwivetty EP
Label:
SIMPLE (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$13.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 937EP
"From studying music at Oxford University, to starting one of the early live electronic acts (Beat Foundation) in the '90s with Andy Cato of Groove Armada, to writing a string of underground club hits on his label Playtime, Mike Monday has consistently stood apart from the crowd. 'Zwivetty' is seriously infectious, weird and wonky disco absolutely bursting with soul and character, treading the line between organic and electronic perfectly. Drums that sound slightly out of control (in a good way), huge stabs and an ingeniously cut-up string sample. Think Sound Stream on acid. For the dub, Mike takes out the stabs and builds the tension around the strings. Played back to back they are a devastating combination. 'Mr.Gone' is an altogether different proposition. Undulating techno with de-tuned guitar licks, an evil acid arp-line and perfectly off kilter percussion that all leads to a stunning 'Squarepusher-esque' bass-line solo by Mike himself."

SIMPLE 938EP
"Friends and studio partners Will Saul & Tam Cooper are back collaborating on Simple for 2009. Will is the man behind Simple and Aus Music, a globe trotting DJ and A&R, with a well known penchant for soul and melody. He's spent much of the last two years lovingly building up his newest baby Aus Music, releasing albums from Sideshow, Lee Jones and Motorcitysoul, and putting together the Aus Music
All Night Long
double CD. Tam Cooper has been producing for the past decade under a number of different guises as well as engineering for the great and the good. Fiddling with analogue kits is his main passion, and he is also a talented drummer and percussionist. Once a teenage raver, Tam has found his way back to house and techno in recent years, enthused by a new wave of artists and sound exploration. I:Cube is one of Will Saul's all time favourite producers. Hailed as the Master of Abstract, I: Cube, producer and DJ, has over the past ten years played a major role in the French electronic scene. He's the author of many remixes and EPs as well as three albums on Versatile --
Picnic Attack
(1996),
Adore
(1996) and
3
(2003). He also forms the duo Chateau Flight with GilbR. In & Out : Disco disco disco! Will & Tam dust off their leg warmers and get down. Big wide claps and swirling pads drift around a cut up vocal, bassline's interchange to switch up the intensity and mood and a tripped out psychedelic arp line brings us home. '3000AD (I:Cube Dub Mix)': A heads down journey into the mind of a musical genius. Freaky FX fly around the mix and the unrelenting groove keeps on giving. Something for when you want to push the intensity up a gear or ten. '3000AD (I:Cube Remix)': A huge set of stabs envelope you from the off. As the percussion gradually builds the stabs keep on pumping and you will find yourself locked in the moment."

Label:

Format:

Price:
$13.00
Catalog #:
SIMPLE 939EP
"Step forward Toronto, Canada native Adam Marshall. With nearly two decades experience as a DJ, not to mention his acclaimed work as a producer and label owner for New Kanada, Adam has amassed considerable respect from the electronic music community for his finely tuned blend of lysergic house grooves and smart, sharp techno. Now residing in Berlin, home to many of his Canadian peers, with recently acclaimed remixes for Seth Troxler, Radioslave's Rekids label and with forthcoming releases on esteemed imprints including Cynosure, KUJI and of course his own New Kanada, and the reinvention of his live set to a more gear based setup, the move to Europe looks set to be a bright one. 'The Owls Won't See Us:' Old school drum sounds are tweaked and twisted in a distinctly new school style with unexpected edits adding urgency and detail. A rhythmic bass-line descends into acid territory underpinning the whole groove perfectly. Layers of melody pulse away unrelentingly, leaving traces cascading around the stereo pallet. We think it sounds like nothing else out there."

"Motorcitysoul are Frankfurt veterans and deep house pioneers Matthias Vogt and Christian Rindermann (aka C-Rock).
Vivid
follows various successful releases (
Kazan
and
Space Katzle
) on Aus Music, and their first debut studio album
Technique
on Simple. Hailing from Germany's own 'Motor City,' the pair have developed a reputation for creating soulful yet truly futuristic deep house that has a signature sound all of its own. 'Vivid' is trademark motorcitysoul -- resonant evolving chord sequences, beautifully arranged organic percussion and 'wild pitch' fx and loops combine to devastating effect. Fellow Frankfurter Roman Flugel gives the Manheim house sound a damn good run for it's money with a tight, loopy groove that locks you from the off. All kinds of detail and sound flourishes pop in once, never to be heard again, keeping the listener on their toes. The package is completed with a percussion heavy dub that threatens to steal the show. Roman Flugel needs little introduction. One half of Alter Ego and one of the collective responsible for legendary label's Playhouse and Klang and not forgetting one of the finest clubs in the world: Robert Johnson."

"Music partners and friends Will Saul & Tam Cooper are back collaborating on Simple for the second time in 2009. Will is the man behind Simple and Aus Music, a globe trotting DJ and A&R, and known as the UK's master of deep. Will Saul's latest project has been mixing and sequencing the latest in the renowned compilation series

Balance 015
. Features the original version of 'Teddy's Back.' He has also recently remixed the Juan Maclean on DFA and Cortney Tidwell for his own Aus Music. Tam Cooper has been producing for the past decade under a number of different guises. Experimenting with analogue kits is his main passion and he is also a talented drummer and percussionist. Once a teenage raver, Tam has found his way back to house and techno in recent years, enthused by a new wave of artists and sound exploration. Will and Tam went back to their roots and dusted off the sampler for 'Teddy's Back.' Strings and vocal cuts bring the soul and their trusty 101 delivers the bass line. As with many of their previous tracks together all the percussion is recorded live - 'because it sounds better and is fun to do.' They set out to achieve something that was heavy, rolling and organic yet with memorable moments that don't disappear into a never ending Ableton conga loop. The original is already a firm favorite with the Wolf + Lamb crew and Gilb'R' from Chateau Flight has also been supporting it for many months from an early version. Our Parisian friends dOP deliver the goods on a major level with their remix. A truly filthy yet undeniably infectious song penned after a recent gig at the infamous Berghain is backed by a surefire rhythm track and arrangement that is designed to move bodies. In Will's words, 'not one I'll be playing to my Mum.' Just how we like it!"

Catalog #:
SIMPLE 944EP
"Will Saul and his production partner Tam Cooper are back for the 3rd time this year on Simple with
Where Is It?
featuring esteemed Philly vocalist Ursula Rucker (The Roots). Steve Bug prompted Will to re-visit the track that featured on his debut album
Space Between
in 2005, when he contacted Will earlier this year and asked if he could rework 'Where Is It?'. Thrilled to get Steve on board, Will decided his original version needed to be re-loved for 2009. Will & Tam aim to maintain the same sweet sense of suspense and emotion present in the original whilst increasing the sense of urgency and intensity with the introduction of a big, reverb drenched 101 bass line. Damian Lazarus asked to sign this to Crosstown Rebels when Will sent him an early version -- a good sign we feel! Steve's remix is vintage Bug. A killer house groove -- beautifully produced and striped back to just the essential elements. A rendition which is true to Ursula's heartfelt original song yet with Steve Bug unmistakably at the controls."
