Artist: SWIFT, ROB
Title: Soulful Fruit
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $13.50
Catalog #: STH 2007
1997 solo album from the X-ecutioners' Rob Swift. Featuring a series of skratching routines featuring Roc Raider, Mista Sinister (also, both members of the X-ecutioners) & Diamond Jay, this is a deep & dense travalogue of turntablist extrapolation, conceptualizing the kaleidoscope of cut 'n' scratch sound.

Artist: LOOTPACK
Title: Soundpieces: Da Antidote
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: STH 2019 CD
"The Lootpack have been contributing to hip-hop since 1994 when they produced the single 'Mary Jane' for Tha Alkaholiks. After several more collaborations on the Liks' three albums, the Lootpack have released two singles on Stones Throw in 1998, setting the anticipation for their debut full length. With its collaborations with their Likwit Crew (The Alkaholiks, Dilated Peoples, and Defari), the Lootpack's Soundpieces will make heads lose theirs."

Artist: STARK REALITY
Title: Now
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: STH 2058CD
"How to describe the Stark Reality's 1970 LP...It's been called 'the beat digger's holy grail.' It's been called 'overrated' (especially since copies have been selling in excess of $500 on eBay). 'Avante-garde'. 'Distorted'. 'Genius'. (Sometimes all in a row). The sounds on that uber-rare LP all depart from the sound one might expect to emerge from a late 60s jazz-funk quartet. The Stark Reality came to fame by impressing jazz legend Ahmad Jarnal with a six song demo, psyching out 'square' children's songs that famed composer Hoagy Carmichael had written in the 40s and 50s, and convincing Jamal to release 90 minutes of music on his private AJP label."

Artist: MADVILLAIN
Title: Madvillainy
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: STH 2065CD
"Madlib the producer and MF Doom the MC -- two of Indie Hip Hop's most celebrated and debated. Madvillain is their collaboration, the subject of speculation and controversy among their diverse body of fans since they announced the project a year ago. Doom has undergone many transformations since his golden-era combo KMD and his twisted, unmistakable flow has met and even match with Madlib's unique hip hop and jazz -- just ask those who have been fiendishly seeking out the 3rd generation Madvillain demos since last summer."

Artist: CHARIZMA & PEANUT BUTTER WOLF
Title: Big Shots
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: STH 2077CD
"Hip hop sometimes comes from strange places. For instance, Charles Hicks, a.k.a. MC Charizma, from the tiny San Jose suburb of Milpitas, and DJ Peanut Butter Wolf, living 20 minutes by bus up the street. Here are two kids who grew up living, breathing, and dreaming of the unusual -- rap beats. Charizma (then 'Charlie C') was rapping at high school talent shows, and Peanut Butter Wolf (then 'Chris Cut') was secretly teaching himself DJ skills in his bedroom, and the two formed a full-time partnership in music shortly after meeting in 1990. They landed a deal with the Disney's Hollywood Basics label, home of Organized Konfusion, and for the next year followed a strict regiment of making music all day, taking breaks for pinball and apple juice, and learning the fundamentals of battling a major label over artistic integrity. As artists, Charizma and PBWoIf were still reaching new heights, but the music was soon cut short. Charizma was tragically killed in December 1993."

Artist: VA
Title: The Third Unheard: Connecticut Hip Hop 1979-1983
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2083CD
"Old school hip hop is suddenly getting the respect it always deserved. And by 'old school,' we mean the OLD -- those rap masterpieces that followed the Sugarhill Gang in the late 70s and early 80s on both major indie labels. Everyone knows old school hip hop comes from New York and New Jersey, but the third portion of the Northeast's Tri-State Area -- Connecticut -- offered a supply of classics of it's own beginning in 1979 and ending around '83. Some of these releases have been falsely attributed to New York City and NYC-based rappers. Many were obscured by the passage of time. None were ever properly researched."

Artist: YESTERDAY'S NEW QUINTET
Title: Stevie: An Instrumental Tribute to Stevie Wonder
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2086CD
"Madlib. The Beat Conductor. Loop Digga. One-upped indie hip hop with Lootpack's Soundpieces: Da Antidote. Traveled to fantastic planets with alter-ego Quasimoto on the groundbreaking concept album The Unseen. Dug through Blue Note's vaults for Shades of Blue. Linked up with Detroit beat-superstar Jay Dilla for Jaylib. Most recently found himself side by side with MF Doom for Madvillain. His most talked about YNQ project was little more than a promotional disc, manufactured with a press run of 1500 pieces in conjunction with New York-based clothing company Triple 5 Soul. The Stevie album, a series of soulful Stevie Wonder covers that Madlib flipped early on in his YNQ tenure, quickly found its way to bidders willing to fork out over $100 per disc on eBay, was briefly bootlegged on vinyl, and led to the question that those lucky enough to snag a dub were forced to ask: when is this thing going to see proper release?! The short answer -- now. Madlib's Stevie Wonder tribute comes remastered and resequenced, with a bonus track and new artwork."

Artist: MONK HUGHES & THE OUTER REALM
Title: A Tribute To Brother Weldon
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2092CD
"Shortly after jazz great Weldon Irvine's tragic death in 2002, Madlib entered his studio under the name Monk Hughes (Yesterdays New Quintet) and composed an instrumental tribute album to his spiritual-mentor's life and music. It's only fitting -- Irvine was one of the first to give Madlib's Yesterdays New Quintet project respect as part and parcel of jazz's ever expanding legacy."

Artist: WILSON, GARY
Title: Mary Had Brown Hair
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2095CD
"Rarely in the history of American music has such a cult developed from just one album, but Gary Wilson's 1977 proto-New Wave masterpiece You Think You Really Know Me was no ordinary record, sucking unprepared new listeners in like a drug and never letting go. LA's Stones Throw label, better known for its world-class new and old Hip Hop and Funk roster, has a team of long-term fans of Gary, so it is with great pride that they present you his first recordings in over a quarter of a century. The intervening years don't seem to have affected Gary's twisted, funky genius one bit, nor dulled the sheen on his perverted electro-lounge-jazz."

Artist: KOUSHIK
Title: Be With
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: STH 2098CD
"Koushik's haunting vocals float high above intricate beats, elevating the art form to new levels with samples from every imaginable source. Free jazz, psychedelic rock, bizarre '80s pop? You name the style and it has crept its way from Koushik's crates to his sampler. One listen to the new Be With EP reveals that our boy must have learned a thing or two about drums from the hip hop golden-era of the early '90s, when producers such as Large Professor, Pete Rock and Diamond D ruled. But for all the cracking drum programming, the mellow dreaminess of Be With owes just as much to the acid-drenched years of the 1960s. Shades of everything from the melancholy melodies of the Zombies to the cosmic textures of Sun Ra color his arrangements."

Artist: MED
Title: Push Comes to Shove
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2108CD
"The west coast MC called Medaphoar is known lately by the first three letters of his name: M to the E to the D. Heads have been checking for more heat from young MED for a good while -- ever since his recent appearance on Madvillain's 'Raid' (Madvillainy, 2004) going back to his debut on the now-classic Soundpieces by Lootpack back in '99. Push Comes To Shove is the official title of the album, and it's nothing but rapid-fire bangers all over it. The track list features production/vocals by Stones Throw homies Madlib and Oh No, the almighty J Dilla (Jay Dee), and? if it's all right with y'all? a little treat from platinum-plus hit-maker Just Blaze."

Artist: QUASIMOTO
Title: The Further Adventures of Lord Quas
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: STH 2110CD
"Quasimoto is back with 27 tracks of straight boom music for his much-anticipated sophomore album The Further Adventures of Lord Quas. Ever since Madlib first put Quas on wax, he has remained one of Madlib's best-loved creations. The Further Adventures of Lord Quas finds digging for records and rolling blunts still taking up most of Quas's time and much of his verses. Consider the book on how to make hip hop thrown out the window. Quas probably smoked it."

Artist: QUASIMOTO
Title: The Unseen
Label: STONES THROW
Format: 2CD
Price: $13.50
Catalog #: STH 2125CD
"Madlib's solo debut LP as Quasimoto, The Unseen, emerged as one of the first hip-hop classics of the decade. The deluxe bonus-disc reissue features a full color booklet and the rare Quasimoto 'Unseen Instrumentals' -- previously only available in very limited supply."

Artist: J DILLA
Title: Donuts
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2126CD
"With his new album, Donuts, J Dilla completes his transplant from Detroit to sunny L.A. It's 44 minutes of straight heat -- filled with brand new, original instrumentals straight from the mind of one of the very best producers in hip hop at the top of his game. All the hallmarks of the Dilla sound are here. His signature recipe of classic soul and modern electronic makes for pure, raw hip hop music. Without guest rappers, and without commercial compromise, Donuts showcases Dilla's amazing versatility like nothing he's done before. Fans will recognize that a new phase has begun, and this is the only place to hear it first. Dilla extracts beats from all kinds of sources to develop a sound that's fresher than Krispy Kreme. It's that soul heritage from Detroit City, born and raised around funk, jazz, R&B and classical. All kinds of musical styles have inspired his legendary career."

Artist: BARON ZEN
Title: At the Mall
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2128CD
"Peanut Butter Wolf, before making his name as a DJ and producer and before founding Stones Throw Records, was programming drums for a one-man punk rock/disco army known as Baron Zen. Known, that is, to almost no one, because Baron Zen did not play shows, did not release records, rejected all forms of publicity, and above all, rejected the boundaries separating hip hop, disco, punk rock and pop. Sweet Steve is the man behind Baron Zen. His recording career as Baron Zen lasted from 1988 to 1992, the best of which is collected on this album -- his first and only. He was ahead of his time in the '80s, but the times have been threatening to catch up with him. Baron Zen today sounds like the missing link between PiL and DFA...or suburban punk rock garage bands of the '80s and the DJ culture of today...or The Dead Milkmen if they had been hip hop B-boys."

Artist: MADLIB
Title: Beat Konducta Vol. 1-2: Movie Scenes
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2133CD
...35 Hip Hop Instrumentals. "Following up his successful Beat Konducta vinyl-only releases, Madlib rounds out his first CD collection of hip hop instrumentals with Beat Konducta Vol 1-2: Movie Scenes. These new, original tracks have been culled from the now-legendary beat CDs which provided the basis for Madlib's 2004-2005 productions from Madvillain, Quasimoto and Jaylib. Movie Scenes presents a vivid hip hop soundtrack for each mood in the model of vintage 'library records' made for TV and film background music in the funky 1960s & '70s. Each of the 40 tracks has a title as well as a parenthetical mood or theme to correspond with what's unfolding on the screen. The film is for you to imagine, the score courtesy of Madlib the Beat Konducta."

Artist: MULDROW, GEORGIA ANNE
Title: Worthnothings
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $5.50
Catalog #: STH 2135CD
"Georgia Anne Muldrow is one of Stones Throw Records newest signings, and is the only female vocalist signed to the label. In line with the label's other multitaskers (ie. Madlib, J Dilla, Oh No and lately Koushik and Aloe Blacc), and inspired by solid '70s soul, free jazz and a bottom-heavy hip-hop thump, Georgia paints a unique musical canvas that has the underground stopping to gaze and take it all in. It's just one 22-year old woman behind such a breadth of sonic expression -- she does her own vocals, background vocals AND the beats. Georgia springs from a family of creative musicians, whose roots run deep in the '60s and '70s progressive jazz scene: her father invented instruments for Eddie Harris, and her mother performed with Pharoah Sanders. Their innovation passed to their daughter, who approaches her labyrinth of keyboards, synthesizers and various instruments with a fresh perspective every time. Her colorful, stream-of-consciousness sound got noticed early on by fellow L.A. space-hop trendsetters Sa Ra, as well as Detroit's Platinum Pied Pipers -- both of whom tapped her for collaborations."

Artist: PERKINS, DUDLEY
Title: Expressions (2012 a.u.)
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2136CD
"Dazed critics fumbled for adjectives and comparisons to describe the utterly unique vocal presence of a rapper who can't quite sing, but whose tunes are nonetheless as catchy and sincere as any contemporaries' in the R&B field. Dudley's full-length debut on Stones Throw Records, A Lil' Light (2003), showcased his inimitable singing style over the most psychedelic beats in the underground -- all produced by Madlib. As a vocal muse for Madlib's creations, Dudley is unmatched; he's earned first pick at Madlib's prized beat collections. Just like Madvillain or Quasimoto, the Dudley/Madlib combination is a facet unto its own -- on par with the most illustrious collaboration projects in Madlib's catalog. The dynamic sophomore effort, entitled Expressions (2012 A.U.), takes an extended detour in the direction of Parliament's Mothership Connection. The funk is strong this time around -- as is the soul music that brought tears to the eyes of Dudley's and Madlib's aunts and uncles back in the golden days. Dudley continues his plaintive, introspective soul-searching -- as well as his trademark questions of the future for mankind."

Artist: BLACC, ALOE
Title: Shine Through
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2138CD
"SoCal native Aloe Blacc began his recording career as an MC back in 1995, when he joined up with hip-hop producer Exile to form the mainstay indie rap group, Emanon. These days, Aloe Blacc has evolved into a true Renaissance man -- dubbed 'the indie R. Kelly' by online retailer Turntable Lab. Recordings like his Latin cover of John Legend's 'Ordinary People' prove that -- not only can this multi-instrumentalist produce, rap and sing -- but he can flip it in Spanish, too. With an amazingly broad set of influences ranging widely from the acoustic guitar stylings of folk artist Cat Stevens, to the soul-stirring sounds of the Negro Spirituals, Aloe prides himself on the spectrum of his musical roots. His sound often forays into the digital R&B realm, but always grooves with a tinge of Latin and the pulse of hip-hop."

Artist: ROC 'C'
Title: All Questions Answered
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2139CD
"With influences ranging from A Tribe Called Quest to MC Eiht, Roc aims to transcend the usual hip-hop categories. Roc rhymes as therapy, venting the demons of a background shaped by gang rivalries, poverty, jail and mortality. The result is one of Stones Throw's most street oriented albums to date. Features production by Oxnard family: Oh No, DJ Romes and Kan Kick. The diverse list of guest MCs includes: Oh No, Dudley Perkins, Pok Dogg, Glasses Malone, J Ro, Chino XL, Bizzy Bone and Aloe Blacc."

Artist: OH NO
Title: Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2143CD
"The hip-hop world can now witness the depth of Oh No's musical vision with Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms, a unique concept album bridging his new-millennium beats with the baroque but funky tunes of the venerable Galt MacDermot. Known primarily as the composer of the late-'60s smash musical Hair, Mr. MacDermot distilled the essence of R&B rhythms and Broadway melodies into a unique and potent groove for the Age of Aquarius. After the breakthrough hits from Hair (still heard every day on Oldies radio everywhere), MacDermot -- backed by longtime collaborators and jazz/funk drumming legends in their own right, Bernard Purdie and Idris Muhammad -- perfected his sound throughout the following decades on his own imprint, Kilmarnock Records. MacDermot offered Oh No access to his huge (and still growing) catalog of music, resulting in The Exodus -- an entire album of beats derived solely from Galt MacDermot samples. Recruiting a formidable cast of rappers, including veterans like A.G. and Posdnous from De La Soul, as well as current indie powerhouses like Murs and Vast Aire, Oh No has assembled a hip-hop album that transcends generations."

Artist: MULDROW, GEORGIA ANNE
Title: Olesi: Fragments of an Earth
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2145CD

Artist: ARABIAN PRINCE
Title: Innovative Life: The Anthology 1984-1989
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2192CD
"Arabian Prince's story is undeniable. His life reflects the ambition and innovation of the early West Coast hip-hop scene, from his days amongst the likes of electro-rap legends Egyptian Lover and the World Class Weckin Cru to this work with N.W.A. His biography closely parallels the progression of Southern Californian hip-hop. From Arabian's transition as an electro DJ into one of the West Coast's first hip-hop stars... in the shift from electro-rap to the gangsta-rap music that transformed the world. This anthology, a collection of his groundbreaking electro-rap work recorded between 1984 and 1989, not only compels the listener through sound, but through prose. Through Arabian Prince's music and life story, Stones Throw Records is proud to present a glimpse into an overlooked chapter in hip-hop's history." Includes two bonus tracks.

Artist: SAVATH & SAVALAS
Title: La Llama
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2215CD
"Guillermo Scott Herren's albums as Prefuse 73 brought him a worldwide audience, critical praise, and inspired a generation of producers whose names are now commonplace on 'Year End Best' or 'Names to Watch' lists. But Herren's first album on Warp, a label synonymous with Prefuse's signature sound, wasn't a 'beat' album, but a key introduction to a most intriguing portion of Herren's multi-faceted musical persona: Savath and Savalas. Following two albums over five years on Warp, Herren has chosen to take a fresh approach with Savath and Savalas, releasing La Llama with Los Angeles-based Stones Throw Records. Herren, with Eva Puyuleo Muns and a new addition to the band, Roberto Carlos Lange, were inspired on La Llama by a shared love for South-American psychedelic music and the early '70s independent music scene that had briefly flourished in Recife, Brazil."

Artist: PANTS, JAMES
Title: Seven Seals
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2218CD
"Having given birth to a music career and to a human child within the span of a few months, celebrated percussionist James Pants withdrew into solitude for some weeks in the year 2008. Hermetically ensuring his privacy in his remote cabin in & around Spokane, Washington, Pants spurned the noise and clatter of the globetrotting lifestyle, as he nurtured his seed in the form of beautiful baby girl Olive, and took to penning this concept album, now known as Seven Seals. For the moment, with the exception of his touring of Europe and China, wowing the throngs with his exhilarating live ensemble Royal Zodiac, the reclusive Pants occupies himself almost entirely with his offspring, and the disciplined study of oceanography, astronomy and gourmet Latin cooking. For fans of: Gary Wilson, Mort Garson, Beck, The Doors, Bruce Haack."

Artist: VA
Title: The Minimal Wave Tapes Volume One
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2223CD
"Stones Throw founder Peanut Butter Wolf has always had a love affair with that '80s new wave, post punk and DIY sound. Here he scours the archives of New York's own Minimal Wave, a small indie label dedicated to reissuing lost and rare gems from around the world originally released on limited edition cassettes or vinyl by the artists themselves." Artists: Linear Movement, Crash Course In Science, Oppenheimer Analysis, Mark Lane, Tara Cross, Turquoise Days, Bene Gesserit, Esplendor Geometrico, Das Ding, Martin Dupont, Deux, Somnambulist, Ohama, Das Kabinette.

Artist: STRONG ARM STEADY
Title: In Search Of Stoney Jackson
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2235CD
"The Madlib/Strong Arm Steady collaboration album Stoney Jackson came together in a flurry of creative energy over the past six months. Prompted by Madlib's stalwart DJ J.Rocc, who supplied SAS's Krondon and Phil Da Agony with 14 new Madlib beats CD, this album's conception and delivery bear resemblance to the trajectory took by 2003's Jaylib (with J.Dilla) and 2004's Madvillain (with Doom). The SAS had previously rapped over Madlib's music on their mixtape/album Deep Hearted and on the Talib Kweli/Madlib album Liberation. The Stoney Jackson album unfolds over sixteen tracks and is a brisk, exciting hip hop record. Krondon and Phil supply the majority of the vocals with the third SAS member Mitchy Slick; guest appearances include Talib Kweli, Guilty Simpson, Little Brother's Phonte, Planet Asia and a host of underground Los Angeles's emerging rap talent. Stoney Jackson represents Madlib's return to the hip-hop form and sets the state for the OJ Simpson collaborations he's finishing with Guilty Simpson."

Artist: GUILTY SIMPSON
Title: OJ Simpson
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2243CD
"Producer Madlib (Otis Jackson) + MC Guilty Simpson = OJ Simpson. OJ Simpson. That's the name of the album. No bloody gloves. No Ford Broncos. These are some 12 hard-hitting, straight-from-the-gutter hip hop tracks featuring Guilty's inimitable baritone, and an equal number of Madlib's signature album-as-soundtrack/radio/sideshow arrangements, where the beat and sequence is as important as the rap. This, with a couple no-nonsense guest appearances, some cuts by J.Rocc, and a whole bunch of attitude, makes up one of our favorite projects in a while. The charisma that Detroit's heavy hitting MC Guilty Simpson and the Los Angeles-based Beat Konducta Madlib share testifies to a musical kinship that is rare in today's rapper-as-an-accessory marketplace. Going back to Guilty's first appearance on wax (Jaylib's Strapped, 2003), Guilty over a Madlib beat to us is like hearing Guru over Premier circa Daily Operation, or CL over Pete around the time of Straighten It Out. Sometimes, a rapper and a producer just work well together."

Artist: BLACC, ALOE
Title: Good Things
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2245CD
"Good Things marks a shift in methodology from personal to political for Aloe Blacc, who refers to the project as his report on present conditions -- the misappropriation of wealth, pillaging of resources, a universal lack of compassion, and the struggle to survive. Ethereal production from Truth & Soul's Leon Michels and Jeff Silverman mask a foreboding undercurrent in which Aloe crafts lyrics both thoughtful and thought-provoking. Nowhere is this more evident than on lead single, 'I Need A Dollar' -- chosen by HBO as the theme music for the series How To Make It In America. The first-generation American offspring of Panamanian parents, Aloe has become what writer and activist Amiri Baraka once said of John Coltrane: He is a singular 'scope of feeling... a more fixed traveler' who has found cohesion in art and life. The path from his debut Shine Through in 2006 to Good Things is akin to the maturation of Marvin Gaye between That's The Way Love Is and the 'What's Going On' masterwork that followed. Aloe has never purported to be any heir to Gaye, but musically, Good Things and What's Going On are companion pieces as both albums establish a character for the artists that sets them apart from the sea of performers making very vivid and discernible -- yet normative and conformist -- statements about who they are and what they do. Good Things is a definitive declaration that places Aloe directly in the framework of modern soul."

Artist: ANIKA
Title: Anika
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2261CD
"Self-titled debut produced by Geoff Barrow of Portishead. 'Political Journalist' isn't a credential we usually have in musician's bios, but this is exactly what Anika was doing while living between Berlin and Bristol earlier this year when she met Geoff Barrow. The producer was looking for a new singer to work with his band Beak>, and it was immediately clear they shared the same musical vision, including a love of punk, dub and 60s girl groups. A week later Anika and Beak> (Barrow, Billy Fuller and Matt Williams) went into the studio to begin recording material. The resulting album was recorded in twelve days, live, with the four together in one room, no overdubs. The collaboration is political, trashy, dub, punk, funk in the tradition of short-lived but deeply influential 99 Records and the NYC's 80s No Wave nexus."

Artist: PANTS, JAMES
Title: James Pants
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2262CD
"The album was originally called Love Kraft, until someone with access to the internet said that it was also a Super Furry Animals LP. Seeing as James Pants never operated out of any big city music scene, his non-challance about Googling is probably to be expected. The scene that inspires James Pants exists solely in his head, and sometimes David Lynch's. Both men have spent plenty of time living in Spokane, Washington, and found muse in a fictional television town a few miles east. 'It's that Twin Peaks sound,' James Pants says of Love Kraft. 'More noise and wailing guitars.' Lead single 'Darlin'' picks up at another pop culture point, sounding like a doo-wop-channeling prom song in a John Hughes movie. That is, until a swirling guitar so specific to now joins the dance. Stereogum says that 'James Pants will play all your instruments then play with all your styles' and he flexes those production chops throughout his eponymous release. But just because of James Pants' scene-insulated living choices and defiant keyboard choices, doesn't mean he can't work with people. Really rad people, actually. He's remixed Beck, Pharell & Santogold, Dam Funk, and Mayor Hawthorne and a future collaboration with Tyler, the Creator of OFWGKTA."

Artist: JONTI
Title: Twirligig
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: STH 2272CD
"Multi-instrumentalist, arranger and vocalist Jonti began assembling music after his departure from South Africa to Australia. Spending countless hours studying records like they were books, processing each song, this became Jonti's music school, testing his theories on a 4-track recorder. Jonti is a multi-instrumentalist, arranger and vocalist working in Australia. He has recorded with Mark Ronson, Santigold, Sean Lennon and the Dap-Kings. For Jonti's debut album, coming this fall on Stones Throw, he went the opposite route -- doing everything himself start to finish."

"A quick glance at MED's discography shows many classic releases from years past: Madvillain's Madvillainy, Madlib's Shades of Blue, J Dilla's The Shining, Lootpack's Soundpieces, Quasimoto's Unseen. Each appearance showcases his well-rounded knack for lyricism, ranging from vivid street imagery to nostalgia to everything in between. It's fitting that he calls this album Classic. With the sophomore album, fans are treated to collabs with label mate Aloe Blacc, Talib Kweli ('Classic'), Hodgy Beats (OFWGKTA), and with producers Madlib, Oh No and the Alchemist."

Artist: VA
Title: The Minimal Wave Tapes Volume Two
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: STH 2281CD
"Minimal Wave: underground DIY electronic music from North America and Europe in the late '70s-80s. Characterized by '70s synth and drum machine production and home recording, most of these tracks were privately released on limited-edition cassettes or vinyl and known only to a handful of people over the years. New Yorker Veronica Vasicka has spent the past five years painstakingly building the Minimal Wave catalog and a label of the same name that specializes in digging up and reissuing the music. Partnering here with Stones Throw, the recordings have been officially licensed, remastered from their analog source tapes and compiled here by Vasicka and Stones Throw's Peanut Butter Wolf." Artists include Felix Kubin, Philippe Laurent, Subject, Ohama, Geneva Jacuzzi, Ruins, Aural Indifference, Class Info and more.

Also featuring Guilty Simpson, M.E.D., Diverse, Dead Prez, Aloe Blacc, and more. The second disc is the "instrumental" counterpart to the first disc's rhymes.

Artist: LAST ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC SPACE JAZZ & PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE
Title: Miles Away
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: STH 2171CD
"The first of Madlib's 2010 jazz albums is Last Electro-Acoustic Space Jazz & Percussion Ensemble's Miles Away. Miles Away is Madlib's tribute to a series of his jazz heroes from the '60s and, mainly, '70s, with suites, waltzes, ballads, modal-numbers and swinging funk inspired by and covered from the well known (Roy Ayers, Pharoah Sanders, John Coletrane) and the cult (Phil Ranelin, Harry Whitaker). This 'band' shows an organic growth from their earliest releases (the limited edition Summer Suite and Fall Suite albums); electric flute, moog and synths stand aside accordions, sitars and vibraphones in an album that could only originate in the mind of a loop-digging Beat Kouducta as reverent of jazz's deep traditions as he is revolutionary."

Artist: KOUSHIK
Title: Out My Window (Instrumentals + Bonus Beats)
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $19.00
Catalog #: STH 2217CD
"Out My Window (Instrumentals + Bonus Beats) is a companion piece for Koushik's debut album. Following several years of building his name through a series of low-key EPs on Stones Throw, remixes for Madvillain, Four Tet, and Light In The Attic records, Koushik is ready to make a name for himself."

Artist: HAACK, BRUCE
Title: Farad: The Electric Voice
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: STH 2221CD
"Haack's music is rooted in the idea that humans and electronic machines share a reciprocal relationship that manifests itself through sounds. In order to further explore this dynamic, Haack dropped out of Juilliard to pursue a more experimental course in, surprisingly, educational children's music. Haack released material off his own label Dimension 5 Records in 1962, which allowed him to mix kinetic energy, infuse psychedelic philosophy, and pluck sounds from various genres across the board. Adding to his musical pastiches, Haack used home-made modular synthesizers, proto-vocoders, and the heat-touch sensitive Dermatron to expand his music into the technological realm of creativity. Similar to friend Raymond Scott (who J-Dilla sampled for 'Lightworks'), Haack's facility to create new electronic soundscapes has turned his work into a virtual music library, one whose samples have already been culled by the likes of Cut Chemist. Farad Bruce Haack serves as a glowing primer of Haack's work throughout his career. Touching on the lush, pysch-electronic grooves of the Electric Lucifer period and extending to his more abstract, angular works, this compilation highlights his use of the Farad, one of the first musical vocoders invented at the time. Yet amidst echoey reverb and haunting drones, Haack himself manages to create something primal and human, not necessarily conflating human and electronic but posing them as compatible partners."

Artist: YOUNG JAZZ REBELS
Title: Slave Riot
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: STH 2224CD
"Madlib's been busy these last couple years. And while his recorded output always spans the gamut, he often returns to recurrent themes, spread across the genres that serve as home base -- or bases, as it were. 2010 will be an ambitious one for Madlib and Stones Throw Records, with his slate of 12 Medicine Show albums and mixes, his rap albums for the likes of Strong Arm Steady, Guilty Simpson and MED and a series of albums based around the now-defunct Yesterdays New Quintet's 'spin off bands' that he introduced on the Yesterdays Universe album. If you've read this far, you're probably aware of the former two categories - now on to the jazz. The second of Madlib's 2010 jazz albums is Young Jazz Rebels' Slave Riot. Slave Riot, as you can guess from the title, is a rather chaotic affair. While his previous album, Last Electro Acoustic Space Jazz and Percussion Ensemble's Miles Away rambled along at a leisurely pace, Slave Riot guns to top speed almost immediately and rarely lets up its frenetic pace. To put this in a Sun Ra context, think of this as Madlib's Black Mass, as opposed to Last Electro's Sleeping Beauty." Mini-LP gatefold package.

Artist: J. ROCC
Title: Some Cold Rock Stuf
Label: STONES THROW
Format: 2CD
Price: $18.00
Catalog #: STH 2233CD
"This is the debut album of original music from one of the original turntablists and longtime DJ for Madlib and the late J Dilla. This is not a 'DJ album'. Not a beat album. Not a mix tape. This is an original work of instrumental hip-hop, dance music, smoke tracks, assorted cold rock stuff. J. Rocc first made his name as one of the original turntablists, cofounding The World Famous Beat Junkies in the 1990s with DJ Babu, Shortkut, Melo-D and Rhettmatic, becoming a seminal force in the rise of instrumental hip-hop. He went on to host The Fantastic Four Radio show on L.A.'s Power 106, perform as the third member of Madlib & J Dilla's Jaylib, and tour the world as a solo artist, DJ and producer. Note: Some Cold Rock Stuf also contains a 'mystery disc', one of three mystery discs included in different copies of the album. No track list is provided for the 'mystery disc' and the CD label does not distinguish one mystery disc from the other."

Artist: SAVATH & SAVALAS
Title: The Predicate (Dub Version)
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: STH 2238CD
"Somehow a minimal Catalan psych-folk album inspired by Brazilian counter-current musical giants fell in line with Mars Volta-leader Omar Rodiguez Lopez's prog-rock opus Old Money and Madlib's Beat Konducta 5 & 6; in mid 2009 Stones Throw released Savath and Savalas's La Llama. That album, an acoustic excursion, drenched in Eva Puyelo Mins' breathy vocals, marched to its own beat, courtesy of Prefuse 73 and Roberto Carlos Lange, aka 'Heldado Negro' -- defiantly cerebral, not made for dancing, no 'stand-out-single'. This follow up entry into the Savath and Savalas book, etched by a new production entity we only know as 'The Predicate' (we think they're the same cats known as 'The Predicate Production Guild', who recently released a library album on Andy Votel's B-Music label) fits perfectly in Stones Throw's ever expanding musical novel. Who woulda thunk it, 'Catalan-folk-psych with minimalistelectronic- sensibilities' re-imagined as an excursion in neo-dub? Not us, but The Predicate (Dub Version) helps us through winter with just enough bounce to remind us of the warm days past and soon to come again."

Artist: CASSELL, MATTHEW LARKIN
Title: The Complete Works
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: STH 2244CD
"It's not often that a sample clearance claim against a record company turns out to be an altogether pleasant experience. Usually it's a blustery, puffy-chested affair with lawyers on both sides citing arcane copyright cases and threatening court proceedings as if the year were 1987 and Biz Markie had just released his first album on Cold Chillin.' We inked the deal with singer, songwriter, pianist and man-in-the-know Matthew Larkin Cassell to issue his complete works. MLC hit us up after he heard his 'Heaven,' from his superb (and superbly rare) album Pieces on the Madlib production '3.214' from Madvillainy 2: The Madlib Remix. To be fair, Madlib had no idea he was using Mssr. Cassel's work until he put two and two together and realized that his source material, a Japanese bootleg 12" labled 'MLC' stood for, well, you guessed it. And who wouldn't want access to the multi-tracks to MLC's break-beat laded 'My Life?' Madlib certainly did. And MLC wanted to see his entire catalog (comprised of the Pieces album, an EP entitled Matt The Cat, a 7" single and a recently recorded and issued vinyl EP) issued on CD. Less than a year later, here we are. The negotiations - completed (amicably!). Matthew Larkin Cassell - The Complete Works." Includes 20-page booklet containing never-before-seen photos and liner notes.

Artist: RUFFIN, VEX
Title: Crash Course EP
Label: STONES THROW
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: STH 2271CD
"On paper Vex Ruffin's music is simple: an untrained punk musician who uses a few basic instruments in uncomplicated ways, he calls the style 'minimalist.' Although it may not seem like it upon first listen, Vex's music is rooted in sampling and hip hop beat-making culture. The SP 303 sampler provides the drums and other sounds, a purchase inspired by Madlib. Vex is the first and only artist signed to Stones Throw Records on the strength of an unsolicited demo sent through the mail."

Artist: DAVE DUB

Label: STONES THROW
