Artist: TRAD, GRAS OCH STENAR
Title: Homeless Cats
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: G 2009CD
Just in time for Träd Gräs och Stenar's ("Trees Grass and Stones") 40-year anniversary, the Swedish psychedelic trance-rock pioneers release a new album, Homeless Cats. The first one in 7 years, and the seventh since they began in 1969. Eleven boundless tracks with organic music for open minds. Back in 1967, the guitarist BoAnders Persson had already started his Terry Riley-inspired underground band Pärson Sound with the bass player Torbjorn Abelli and drummer Thomas Mera Gartz, amongst others. They evolved into International Harvester, then Harvester, finally striking root as Träd Gräs och Stenar. In 1970, they arranged, and performed at, the legendary Swedish Gardes-Festivals that pioneered the Swedish alternative music movement. Today, Träd Gräs och Stenar create their own contemporary music, even if they have been compared to Krautrockers like Can and Faust, internationally. Rhythmic, and heart-pounding for sure -- but at the same time, peculiarly Swedish, with their roots in the mold and soil, and with branches that reach high up into the clear air. Homeless Cats was recorded by the band themselves during the period between 2002-2007, mostly while jamming in the band's rehearsal house and studio in Viksund, Sweden, but also live at gigs. During this period, they also toured Europe, USA, Russia and Japan. In the meaty album booklet, they give us a couple of personal travelogues. Träd Gräs och Stenar have evolved a clear and mature sound with space enough for both suggestive heaviness and mind-expansion. These tracks bubble and seethe, growing forth freely. Sometimes, the mostly instrumental tracks are irresistibly captivating, as in the trance-inducing "Summer Disco," at other times, they are weightless, as on the loop-like "The Most Beautiful Moment Of The Dream," which breathtakingly floats into "Thorns Of Solitude," which could be an earthy, space-rock movie soundtrack. "Wedding Reel" is a slight divergence from traditional Swedish folk music, with rhythms and melodies that are played brutally, like a plow wrenching deep furrows into a field of stone. Homeless Cats makes its mark. Heavy, vertiginous, and, just like Träd Gräs och Stenar themselves, timeless.

Artist: FANKHAUSER, MERRELL
Title: Maui
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: SUBL 003CD
2006 remastered repress of this album which has been out of print for the last five years or so (first reissued on CD by Subliminal Sounds in 1998). Maui is the first Merrell Fankhauser solo album, a classic of cosmic folk music, recorded in 1975. The band Mu was formed in 1969 when Merrell Fankhauser teamed up with Jeff Cotton of Captain Beefheart's band. Both of them had had successful careers in the surf music craze of the mid-'60s (Fankhauser penned the hit "Wipe Out"). When it was discovered that the Hawaiian Islands could have remnants of the sunken Mu civilization, the band decided to move to the island of Maui. But by 1974, all but Merrell Fankhauser had left for the mainland. Merrell was now staying with his girlfriend violinist Mary Lee in the two story Tarzan-style jungle house which Merrell had built, complete with flowing lily ponds. The stream cascaded around the house forming a natural pool and waterfall, an ideal setting for Merrell to compose his laid back cosmic music. Around this same time the Tibetan Lama Kar Mapa came to the island for a meditation retreat that was sponsored by one of Merrell and Mary's neighbors in the jungle. They did a special Black Crow ceremony with 400 devoted hippies all meditating for peace and harmony for all beings on the earth. Merrell and Mary were the first musicians in the United States to play modern music for the Lama. They lived in the Maui rain forest in their jungle retreat for over seven years. Late in 1975 they visited L.A. and recorded the Maui album, which described perfectly the feeling of his lifestyle in his jungle house beside a free-flowing stream in the Maui rainforest. The album recording originally started at MCA Studios in Hollywood with producer Dino Airelli who went on to head up Dark Horse Records for George Harrison. Due to Dino's busy schedule he was unable to finish the album, and it was later finished in San Francisco and came out on a small independent Hawaiian label, Maui Music. It sold a few thousand copies and disappeared. The album is released here in its entirety with 8 bonus tracks, including an unreleased version of "Some Of Them Escaped." This is a true artifact from the hippy dream of peace, love and harmony for the world!

Artist: SANDIN, AKE
Title: Forlorad I Toner (Lost In the Tones)
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: SUBL 005CD
"Ake Sundin was a unique personality in the Swedish music business of the 1960s. A real 'outsider musician' who artistically did what ever he wanted to without any cares for critiques or prevalent musical norms. During the last ten years he has become a cult legend among the few Swedish musical journalists and musicians who has been able to find or at least hear his incredibly rare records from the 1960s. In 1965 he started his own record company, jay Records, financed by the meager income from his work at the post office. Jay Records released loads of records between the years 1964-1970, most of them with Ake himself. He paid for costly recordings in top studios with big orchestras and even rented the finest concerts halls for his performances. Practically nobody bought his records or showed up at his concerts and every time he tried do something he only got laughed at. His magnum opus was his LP record released in 1968 which was housed in a 'cooking proof' cloth sleeve! On the record he criticize, in his own incomparable way, the Swedish music industry and the pop music of the day. Ake ended his days in this world as a rollerskiing cloth salesman and after his death the Swedish government actually had all his belongings, including all his records, destroyed and burnt! Stefan Kéry, weird musical archaeologist, has now succeeded in saving and displaying this musical treasure. His record company Subliminal Sounds has even received a grant from the Swedish National Council for Cultural Affairs, the same government body who also sponsored the Parson Sound 2 CD, to release this retrospective CD. The whole Ake Sandin LP and his ultra rare 45s are all included on this definitive release. Due to the popularity of Swedish outsider artists like the Elvis impersonator extraordinare Eilert Pilarm and books like Irwin Chusid's book Songs In the Key of Z people are becoming more aware and interested in the 'outsider music' phenomena. It is now time to unleash Sweden's most acclaimed artist in the outsider changer. Meet Ake Sandin, the Ed Wood of Swedish 60s music, on the Lost In Tones CD. Nothing will ever be the same afterwards."

Title: Born Losers
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: SUBL 006CD
"The Swedish garage punk rock boom really began back in the 1980s. One of the pioneering bands were the Stomachmouths who road the crest of the 80s garage wave between the years 1984 -- 1987 becoming the leading Swedish exponent of the genre at the time. They toured Europe several times with their wailing fuzz guitars, screeching Farfisa organ , caveman drums, thumping bass and ultra snotty vocals on full throttle, performing some of the wildest shows ever witnessed. Their musical influence lived on and is now strongly felt in current Swedish bands from the Hives to the Soundtrack of Our Lives. The Stomachmouths records sold very well at the time but none have ever been reissued on CD before. This CD compilation sets this right containing all the essential Stomachmouths releases presented here for the first time with the bands own original 80s mixes."

Artist: JAY, ABNER
Title: One Man Band
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: SUBL 007CD
2012 repress, originally released in 2003. "The ultimate one-man-band wild man from the 1960s of whom some have said 'the southern Hasil 'Haze' Adkins'. Anyways Abner Jay was the most unusual music talent the world has ever seen and a true southerner. His original LPs are now sought after and very rare making this CD reissue very welcome. Abner played the long-necked, plucked string instrument we nowadays call the banjo. Its possible antecedents have existed in many forms and under many names. The commercially-manufactured, standardized form has emerged from vernacular instruments, including what 18th-century European travellers to the West Indian colonies reported as 'strum-strums': long, flat-necked, skin-covered gourd bodies strung with catgut, resorted to by plantation slaves for intimate diversion as well as larger occasions of social excitement arousal. Coming from whatever precursors, the banjo occupied an important place in late-19th century black and white minstrelsy and vaudeville. There is a long line of social and musical experience which constitutes Jay's tradition: blacks' domestic entertainment inspiring white imitations; in turn stimulating composed, sheet-music idioms for middle-class and professional performance, which then animated younger generations of black musicians. For forty two years Jay worked as a unique one man band where he played banjo, guitar, drums, harmonica, and sang at the same time. Abner Jay was the first of the original black musicians and played the only electric six string banjo you'll ever hear. Jay was a native of Fitzgerald, Georgia and was once a travelling performer with the Silas Green Show, one of the last multifaceted road shows on record. Tastes and tolerances of what constitutes acceptable public entertainment are always changing and Jay was part of making idioms which may not in fact have received too much exposure in the daily pressure to captivate audiences by extrovert mannerisms. Singing song on subjects ranging from LSD to 'what's six inches long and has two nuts on the end' -- you got to hear it to believe it. A true glimpse at some real Americana compiling the best tracks from Abner's original LPs."

Title: Belinda
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: SUBL 008CD
"It's time for us to unleash the ultimate Swedish early 70s underground psych funk erotica groove record! Yes you've heard about the Swedish sin but here's the ultimate proof. Not only were the hippies practicing free-love but they recorded some dirty music too. In the early 70s legendary genius/madman Tom Zacharias together with the cream of Swedish studio musicians, some beautiful Swedish hippie nymphs and a bunch of drugged out freaks recorded two ultra rare LPs called The Songs of Belinda and Belindas Daughters both of which are now mega rare collectors items that never turn up, even in Sweden. These two masterpieces with their XXX-rated lyrics were recorded with both Swedish and English lyrics, but only the Swedish language versions were released. Even though adds were put out in both Screw magazine and Hustler the English language versions were kept in the can. Until now. We present both versions on one CD complete with extended liner notes and lots of psychedelic sexy pictures of course. Great groovy, funky acid erotica with loads of fuzz-wha-wha guitars, wicked drum beats and over the top XXX erotic lyrics."

There is a lot of work and effort behind these comps and they have taken a long time to compile. Artist: WORKS, THE
Title: The Works
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: SUBL 014CD
From the label that released the highly praised Ta Det Lugnt by Dungen last year, Subliminal Sounds presents the debut album from Swedish psych-rock compatriots, The Works. (The Works are also closely linked with Dungen, their lead singer and guitarist Andreas handled the bass playing for Dungen on their latest NYC trip, and several Dungen members guest on this release). The Works come across as young goggle-eyed virtuosos from some weird Scandinavian conservatoire where ergot, as well as hours of practice, is on the curriculum. This quintet are all individual singer/songwriters who play many instruments, hence the depth and intricacy of their sound. Drummer Johan, who possesses the clattering bombast of a Keith Moon, even lends his knowledge of Cuban drum-technique to this release.

Artist: HOOKER, D.R.
Title: The Truth
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: LP
Price: $25.50
Catalog #: SUBL 014LP
One of the rarest U.S. psych albums, previously issued on CD by Subliminal Sounds, now in a beautiful and legit 180 gram vinyl LP reissue. The Truth, recorded in Connecticut in 1972, might very well be the ultimate North American acid rock album, ever. No hype here -- just incredible music. Tempting as it is to exaggerate the worth of such obscurities, The Truth deserves every plaudit that comes its way, making it astonishing that there was no real band to speak of. Instead, ten musicians are credited alongside the mysterious Donald Hooker, who wrote, sang and played lead on the album. Culled from the local music scene, they rehearsed only briefly before entering the studio. Tom Kobela, who played dobro on this record, remembers that Hooker "was a very likable, long-haired fellow" who "wore robes, which was pushing the dress code conventions even then." Despite his wasted appearance, though, he knew exactly what he wanted in the studio. Heralded by an eerie hoosh, the first track exemplifies the album's sound: a strong melody, funky drumming and percussion and piercing guitar, underpinning oddly philosophical, quasi-Christian lyrics. Some songs are mellow, while others rock hard. Other highlights include the irresistibly funky "A Stranger's Smile" and the beautifully structured "This Thing." But the album's masterpiece is the unforgettable "Forge Your Own Chains," whose smoldering groove, enlivened by delicate synth and atmospheric brass, provides the backing for Hooker's admonitory lyrics about the iniquities of substance abuse. This is one of those albums that keeps revealing new depths even when you've played it a hundred times. Connecticut hippie-philosopher concocts homemade lounge-psych masterpiece. True psychedelia! Includes a poster in a limited edition of 500 copies.

Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: SUBL 017CD
Available for the first time since its release twenty years ago, The Backdoor Men were ultimate mid-1980s jangly garage rock/pop/folk from Sweden. Decades before bands like the Hives, Sweden was already well known for it's amazing modern beat-psych through compatriot and influential bands such as the Creeps, Crimson Shadows, The Stomachmouths and of course the sharpest of them all; the Backdoor Men. The mighty Backdoor Men originally started up as the mod-band Pow in 1982 but when the amazing vocalist Robert Jelinek, who was also in the Creeps, joined forces with Hans Ingemansson (guitar & vocals), Stefan Nilsson (bass), and Ismail Samie (drums), they changed their name to The Backdoor Men, playing covers of the Chocolate Watch Band, Music Machine and Standells. The rest is garage rock history. For the first time you can hear all of their recordings and read their exciting story. This album contains lots of unreleased bonus tracks, a groovy booklet with extensive liner notes giving an uncensored, first-hand peak as to what really happened, plus lots of photos. It's all here.

Artist: MYLLA
Title: Vanya
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: SUBL 019CD
Mylla came into fruition at the now-legendary illicit club/speakeasy BZ in a Stockholm cellar, and this is their debut album, Vanya. Mylla means "mold/earth" in Swedish, and they are the ultimate psychedelic party band for the loosely-knit family of musicians centered around the Subliminal Sounds label (like Dungen, The Works, Life On Earth! and S.T. Mikael and many other Swedish psychsters). This album was recorded in a limestone cottage on a secluded island far out in the Baltic Sea, known by sailors for centuries as the "White Hawaii." Faroe Island has been closed to all foreigners up until a few years ago, as it contains several top-secret army bases. The music is steeped in the Swedish '70s prog tradition, and the creation of this album was as much a dance-party as a recording session. This is a feeling that permeates the whole record and it is this feeling that is Mylla. Like Dungen, the band sings in Swedish but unlike Dungen, the Mylla experience might only be for the natives, but at least it's no longer forbidden for anyone to try it out. Gustav Ejstes from Dungen turns up as a guest with his fiddle, as well as the word artist, Lasse Fabel. Think summertime warmth, beer jams, sweaty dancefloors.

Title: Tio Bitar
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: LP
Price: $25.50
Catalog #: SUBL 019LP
Repressing of the Swedish vinyl version of the fourth full-length release from Sweden's Dungen (CD is on Kemado in the U.S.). Housed in a gatefold sleeve of silver foil cardboard. Since releasing Ta Det Lugnt in 2004, the profile of Swedish psychedelic rockers Dungen has grown at an alarming rate, from a cult studio project into a worldwide musical phenomenon. And on Tio Bitar, we're hearing the end results of an outpouring of success and support -- one which has, for once, inspired the creative processes at hand to make something wholly new and original, yet remaining within the same sphere of emotions that fostered Dungen's three previous albums. Gustav Ejstes, Dungen's founder and principal member, made Tio Bitar (trans. "Ten Pieces"), a bracing display of psychedelic rock, presented with a bright, avid confidence largely by himself, with the assistance of guitarist Reine Fiske. Gustav wrote the songs, and played all of the instruments on his own, with Reine on many lead guitar and bass parts. Tracks like "Familj," "Så Blev Det Bestämt" and "Gör Det Nu" suggest a new, unburdened direction for the belabored concept of "jamming." Here, themes in the melodies, borrowing some of their phrasings but spinning off into lucid counterpart, are all anchored by the bass, drums, and organ. When vocals -- as on past efforts, sung entirely in Swedish, or a flute appear, they're diverging out to a third melody, still safely within the frame, in tune with each part. In other words, this is a more streamlined Dungen, all bombast and psych-rock madness whittled down to the bare essentials. Complex arrangements find the songs boiling over with dozens of ideas, stitched together with studio flash, yet played so soulfully and economically, that there's no evidence of the kind of smug, cynical hamminess that's been hurting rock music since the early '70s. Nor is it the other extreme; no wide-eyed innocence and eagerness to please. Tio Bitar follows world tours and enthusiastic responses from the press and public, and answers the praise with yet another set of cohesive, adventurous rock songs that can't sit still, possessing the vision and focus to distance itself from distraction and obvious influences. "Dungen is not retro," Gustav states. "Dungen is contemporary. Contemporary because it consists of elements from both then and now."

Artist: LIFE ON EARTH!
Title: Look!! There is...
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: SUBL 020CD
Life on Earth! is the solo-work of talented multi-instrumentalist Mattias Gustavsson, from the Swedish band Dungen. Together with some fellow travelling kindred musical spirits (musicians from Dungen, The Works, Town & Country and Mia Doi Todd), he has created an amazingly deep and timeless album filled with shimmering vibrant psychedelic folk-rock-pop. The basic idea was to make music that celebrates the incredible and absolutely wonderful phenomenon of life on Earth, hoping to spread some joy to any possible listeners. The project has been going on since 2003. Barefoot on tiptoe, in a bubble of magic, swirling elegantly among the stars. Here's life on earth according to Life On Earth!: "Right in between, both after and before, nobody really knows where we came from or where we are going ... Suddenly one is cut off from one's past, intruded on by the present, without a clue of what to say or what to do about anything. But where ever we may go, it is all one and the same anyway. Why not simply enjoy it, until the day we die? So lay all your worry aside now. Don't hesitate; let your dreams sweep you away. Then you may see everything that's forgotten here. Lean back and feel how light and exquisite you truly are. Wonder at the beauty of nature; listen to how it invites you among beech trees and squirrels. Embrace it, because he and she and it and we are all connected to you and you are just like everything else, constantly changing into wondrous beings yet unseen -- you might watch the life on Earth for inspiration." Got it? In other words, absolutely joyful, wondrous, swirling Swedish psych-folk loveliness. Sparkling acoustic singer-songwriter sing-a-longs, acid-drenched guitar burners, spacey vocals, Moog whines, sitar-drone, psych-flute trill, bongos, echoes, some dreamy backwards-masking, and even some songs in English! More pared down (but no less thrilling) than Dungen, with its hands and feet on the warm rocks beside the river.

Artist: BABY GRANDMOTHERS
Title: Baby Grandmothers
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: 2LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: SUBL 020LP
Limited 2LP vinyl version of 500 copies, following the previously-released CD. Baby Grandmothers were a short-lived Swedish band, but one of the most prolific and unique psychedelic, modal, experimental power trios to emerge out of the Scandinavian psychedelic underground scene in 1967. Although hailing from Stockholm, Sweden they only released a single in Finland, which has since become one of the most sought-after pieces of vinyl from the era. Formed out of the legendary R&B/beat band T-Boones which included guitar-wiz Kenny Håkansson, who ushered the group into the psychedelic sounds of the time. Not only were they the house band at the legendary psychedelic club, Filips, they also supported Jimi Hendrix on his Swedish tour in 1968 and then turned into Mecki Mark Men, who became the first Swedish rock band to tour the U.S. This unique collection includes live recordings made at Filips, their impossibly rare single and a rare live recording made in Finland. Painstakingly collected and researched by Dungen's guitarist, Reine Fiske.

Artist: STONE & LUV, JADE
Title: Mosaics: Pieces of Stone
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SUBL 021CD
The sole album from male-female duo Jade Stone & Luv is a lost gem from the heart of the psychedelic 1970s. Composed and self-produced in Nashville in 1977, Mosaics: Pieces of Stone went unnoticed by the music industry upon release. Fortunately, it didn't disappear forever, but simply went into retreat, biding its time. While almost unknown outside specialist circles, Mosaics has been an underground cult favorite for many years. The combination of top-level songwriting, skillful guitar/keyboard arrangements and soaring vocals is just too impressive to ignore. And beyond these obvious qualities, the album has something subtle and unique, a magnetic power that keeps drawing the listener back. One of Jade Stone & Luv's earliest advocates was the legendary New York City musicologist, Paul Major. Here's a typical Major impression of the music on Mosaics: "Groovy love vibes thru a prism of jade statues in swinging singles apartment complex action ... Cadillac with fuzzy dice, feather boa, lotsa cigarette burns, stale perfumed ashen air. This album in the 8-track player at 5 AM with someone you don't even know passed out in the backseat, as you head to the diner to meet up with an early-bird Lava Lite salesman who deals pills on the side. Bubbly champagne molecules become the plastic vinyl booths in dim-lit dive bars; it's crackerbox post-war suburban low-rent psychedelic..." After 30 years, this rare experience is finally available for general consumption. Done in collaboration with Jade Stone himself, this reissue of Mosaics: Pieces of Stone features the complete original album, adds a rare 45 and lots of previously unreleased tracks, and comes with extensive liner notes.

Artist: S.T. MIKAEL
Title: Mind of Fire
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: SUBL 022CD
After an 11 year silence, here's a new album by the mysterious and legendary Swedish psychedelic multi-instrumentalist, S.T. Mikael. This is part one of a suite of two separate albums. Mikael spearheaded the DIY psychedelic rock/folk movement of the late 1980s/mid-'90s, with a collection of albums that now fetch up and over $1000 on eBay. During his long absence, S.T. Mikael grew more secretive and reclusive, but all the while he was still writing music. Now that he's finally back, here's a chance at last for the world to join his psychedelic world again. The music, stretching out in many different directions, has been done freely and spontaneously in an extremely relaxed and happy environment. He also joins forces with Dungen's Reine Fiske and Fredrik Björling, whose musical expertise now also grace the grooves. These otherworldly acid tripper recordings now exist in the real world and S.T. Mikael proves, once again, to be a gifted songwriter and an unconventional performer with a very personal ear for acoustics and an emotional honesty seldom seen these days. Melodic folk-rock elements flow with waves of heavy fuzz-phase leads; weird, detached, haunted vocals echo over the band and the whole thing seems to teeter on the brink of psychedelic oblivion. This is not psychedelic revival, but the psychedelic NOW. His soaring vocals, surreal lyrics, fragile, folky melodies, heavy fuzz riffs, mind-bending soul funk and penchant for the spiritual and mystical make this a fascinating voyage that is so mind-twisting, soul-swirling, upper psychedelic that your third eye takes you on a joyride through an altered state! This album makes your brain start thinking in those pebble-splash-pond-mind circular expanding waveforms that reveal the password to tomorrow. The CD also contains 9 previously-unreleased vintage recordings and unique spoken introductions by Mikael. Limited edition of 2,000 copies only.

Title: In Harmony
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: LP
Price: $29.00
Catalog #: SUBL 025LP
This brand new and heavily mind-bending album is the second volume in a suite of two separate albums marking the return of the mysterious and legendary Swedish psychedelic multi-instrumentalist S.T. Mikael. Mikael spearheaded the DIY psychedelic rock/folk movement of the late 1980s/mid-'90s, and he returned in early 2008, after an 11 year silence, to record some music with some friends for Subliminal Sounds. In Harmony is the natural conclusion to the recordings S.T. Mikael made with Dungen's Fredrik Bjorling and Reine Fiske, which were introduced with the album Mind of Fire. Signaled from the outset with the opening track "Mother Is Calling," In Harmony is dedicated to our arch mother, Nature, and all the treasures and mysteries it contains. On his 15-minute epos, "Higher," Mikael performs as a one-man-band, offering insight into the blissful happiness he has received from that which springs from -- and grows -- in nature. As our world continues to change faster than ever, S.T. Mikael's melodic folk-rock and spiritual psychedelia tells us of the importance of partaking in the psychedelic communion and listening to each other -- before it's too late. Get ready for more visions of winged creatures galloping across a thunderous and cloud-swirled sky and another glimpse into your inner mind's eye. Limited edition of 500 copies on vinyl only.

The highest band in Sweden flies again -- '70s progressive/hard rock band Kebnekajse releases a new album! Perhaps one of the most influential and seminal of their kind, their sound can be heard echoing in most Swedish psych/prog bands, and of course in Dungen, whose lead guitarist Reine Fiske has been working on the recording and production of this album. There's a rumble in the mountain, the forest swings and sings, the wind grabs tones that meander high up amongst the clouds. Kebnekajse may be the highest mountain in Sweden, but they are also known as the highest band in the land. They were pioneers with their instrumentals -- electrified Swedish folk/fiddler music. When they unleash their heavy version of "Horgalaten" at a festival, the ring-dancing spins, the hippie-hair flutters and the knee-tassles start smoking. Current members of Kebnekajse include Kenny Håkansson, Göran Lagerberg, Mats Glenngård, Thomas Netzler, Hassan Bah and Pelle Ekman -- six men loaded with eight new songs recorded in the woods (in the legendary Silence Studio with Anders Lind and Reine Fiske behind the controls) and mixed in the city; amazing electric folk-rock with psychedelic overtones. It is time for the troll-dance again.

Artist: LIFE ON EARTH!
Title: A Space Water Loop
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SUBL 028CD
This is the second full-length release by Life On Earth!, the follow-up to the acclaimed 2007 debut Look!! There is Life On Earth!. The debut was like a journey past green summer hills and skipping lambs; a celebration of imperishable eternal beauty and a romantic observation of the world around us. Now, the telescope is turned inside-out. The focus is on the captain of the project, Dungen's Mattias Gustavsson, and the gorgeous, ornate world of his own invention. Confusion and contradiction are found in the front stalls, visions of ecstasy next to battles with demons and defunct relationships. The drums are given more space, and a Hammond organ has found its way along the layered vocals and languorous string arrangements. But even though the sound has grown both harder and bigger, the album is a natural follow-up with equal parts sound experimentation, folk and classic psychedelic pop, based around acoustic guitar. Opening track "Listen" starts it all off with a flowery baroque flute intro, and then just unfolds and unfolds ever outward into stratospheric pop vocal harmonies, woozy effects, reverbed organs, backwards masking, all burning up at the end with some seriously druggy, acid-fried psychedelic guitar riffage. And that's just to start. Other members of Life On Earth! include members of The Works' Martin Fogelström, Alexis Benson, and Johan Holmegard (also of Dungen) and Erik Lundin, plus at least 10 more guests. As with the debut, the cover paintings and collages were made by New York artists and Lights members Sophia Knapp and Wizard Smoke. The album derives its title from Knapp's collage A Space Water Loop. LP version in a limited edition of 1,000 copies only worldwide, pressed on blue vinyl.

Title: When This Was The Future
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SUBL 029CD
This is the debut full-length release by Sweden's Lisa Isaksson and her band Lisa o Piu. Raised in a small town on the outskirts of Stockholm, she spent most of her time drawing sketches in horse stables. Later, these horse drawings would become song lyrics accompanied by her mother's old guitar, recorded on a 4-track. Through the years, she eventually formed the band Piu together with her school buddies, and their first single was released in Scotland in 2007. The single got a lot of good reviews and Lisa and Piu gave a couple of concerts on the British Isles as well as home in Stockholm. They also had the opportunity to perform with the British folk musician Roger Wootton who led the legendary acid-folk band Comus during the early 1970s. The performances went so well that they were released as a live album. As summer came and turned Sweden into a green and pleasant place again, the core members of Piu went to a small cottage in the beautiful archipelago north of Stockholm and recorded what was to become When This Was The Future. The album is filled with delicious and bewitching woodland folk hymnals, eloquent yet eerie, and led by Lisa's gossamer vocals, as delicate as a wavering candle flame. The album is produced by Mattias Gustavsson (Life On Earth!/Dungen), and it somehow divinely conjures the essence of Linda Perhacs, Bridget St. John, Joni Mitchell, Sandy Denny, Vashti Bunyan, and Joanna Newsom into one singular siren, but with a thoroughly unique, thoroughly haunting delivery.

Title: The Amazing
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SUBL 030CD
The Amazing fell far from the tree. A natural process: coming together through affection, then slowly crystallizing into a folk-rock- psych-pop- collective slowly pushing, bending, then playing with any preconceived notions of pop. Friends first and foremost, it's this kindred spirit that imbues the band's debut with a feeling unlike that of most releases -- one of natural harmony, persistent progression and with a panoramic gaze fixed on distant settings. Already receiving unanimous critical acclaim in Sweden, their debut album is an all-encompassing sonic soundscape of groovy electric folk rock, psychedelic pop and airy acoustic ballads. The core musicians in The Amazing are Christoffer Gunrup (ex-Granada), Reine Fiske (lead guitar wizard in Dungen), Johan Holmegard (drummer in Dungen and Life on Earth!) and Fredrik Swahn (also bass player with Anna Järvinen). The intimacy permeating through the collection intensifies itself steadily in the music they produce, take a track like "Deportation Day," or "The Kirwan Song," swimming idly through the groups twisted melody, yet luminously anchored by Reine's astral guitar -- plucked endlessly higher. Elsewhere the likes of "Dragon" and "Romanian" forgo interstellar for a more bucolic revelry, built upon acoustic laments and a vocal ripple that could only have spread itself outwards from Sweden's forlorn beauty. With special guests including some of Sweden's finest musicians; Fredrik Bjorling (ex-Dungen) and Erik Malmberg (Sagor & Swing) amongst others, nothing on The Amazing is introverted or overworked -- everything is balanced, kept together by natural melodies, soulful vocals and just how perfect should be. The Amazing is a feeling, an organic consequence of something that effortlessly came together, the start of a quite extraordinary tale.

Title: 4
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: LP
Price: $25.50
Catalog #: SUBL 030LP
This is the limited and more expensive clear-vinyl Swedish edition of Dungen's fourth studio album (released on CD & LP in the U.S. via Kemado), extending the acclaimed Swedish outfit's sound past psychedelia into something far more rare. Moving beyond mere stylistic concerns, 4 finds Gustav Ejstes' focus on the extremes of Dungen's sound separating into two entities. Blazing, raw guitar workouts have their own time and place, but now, so do stirringly orchestrated, jazz-cooled compositions with cinematic undertones. Bandleader Gustav Ejstes has made many allusions to his creative process as it likens to that of a hip-hop producer. On 4, that process is more evident than ever, both in the feel of each piece, and in the sense of intuition and control within the members of the group. New drummer Johan Holmegard joins guitarist Reine Fiske and bassist Mattias Gustavsson, while Ejstes steps away from guitar for the entire album, focusing on the piano as his lead instrument. Together, they have honed a classic and seamless sound, constructed with lavish studio flourishes and moving, narrative arrangements, and yet able to toughen up to tear veins of fierce blues-psych instrumentals up from the surface. The ten tracks on 4 comprise Dungen's most concentrated effort to date, beats surging forth and atmospheres changing as their sound continues to evolve. Every song here runs under five minutes, pushing the group to introduce confident melodies and arresting ambiance in tighter frameworks. Gauging from the results, this challenge has done them well. Included in this set are live favorite "Mina Damer Och Fasaner," excerpts from a wild psychedelic jam session entitled "Samtidigt," and a storming, Northern Soul-influenced instrumental entitled "Fredag." These stand tall with some of the most fully-realized moments of Dungen's career; percolating prog-pop groover "Det Tar Tid" and eloquent opener "Satt At Se." With a penchant for lush pop portraits, and laced with orange sunshine guitar flash, 4 turns a page in Dungen's sound and story.

Title: Homeless Cats
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: 2LP
Price: $31.00
Catalog #: SUBL 032LP
Gatefold 2LP version with full-color glossy printed innersleeves, limited to 1000 copies.

Catalog #: SUBL 069LP
LP version with printed inner sleeve. Limited edition of 1,000 copies worldwide. This is the second album from Sweden's The Amazing on Subliminal Sounds. Wait For A Light To Come features brand-new recordings of Swedish folk-rock-psych-pop perfection. Their 2009 debut album received unanimous critical acclaim worldwide. This follow-up is an all-encompassing sonic soundscape of groovy electric folk-rock, psychedelic pop and heavy jams. The core musicians in The Amazing are Christoffer Gunrup, Reine Fiske (who doubles as the lead guitar wizard in Dungen and who solos so furiously, it's as if something's trapped inside him that must be turned into melody or he'll burst into flames), Johan Holmegard (who doubles as the drummer in Dungen, too) and Fredrik Swahn. The intimacy permeating through this group intensifies itself steadily in the music they produce; swimming idly through the twisted melodies, yet luminously anchored by Reine's astral guitar. Elsewhere they forgo the interstellar for a more bucolic revelry, built upon acoustic laments and a male and female vocal ripple that could only have spread itself outwards from Sweden's forlorn beauty. With special guests including some of Sweden's finest musicians; Gustav Ejstes (Dungen) and Moussa Fadera (Life On Earth!) amongst others, nothing on Wait For A Light To Come is introverted or overworked -- everything is balanced, kept together by natural melodies and soulful vocals. Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: LP
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: SUBL 071LP
LP version. Limited edition of 500 copies worldwide. This is the second album from Swedish folk siren Lisa Isaakson and her band Lisa o Piu. This is the follow-up to 2009's critically-acclaimed debut album When This Was The Future. To get inspiration for the creation of Behind The Bend, Lisa spent time in a small cottage located deep in the vast woods of Vastmanland, Sweden, where she enjoyed the last breath of the summer. Every evening she and David Svedmyr walked further into the woods to an old rowing boat that lay on the edge of a forest lake. In the light of the magically ever-glowing Swedish summer midnight sun they paddled across the lake and then further along a forest creek with lush green trees that hung down over the fresh running water and water lilies. This is the kind of set and setting where you travel into another world... and they did. The initial recordings were made under a vaulted blue ceiling with gold stars in the old 15th century timber church of Hjulsjö, Sweden. The new album is filled with delicious and bewitching watery woodland folk hymnals -- eloquent yet eerie. The harp has been given more space, the violin plays a greater role, the 12-stringed guitar plays graceful melodies and all is led by Lisa's gossamer vocals, as delicate as a wavering candle flame. Come along for the ride.

Title: Skit I Allt
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: LP
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: SUBL 076LP
Limited edition 1,200 copies deluxe vinyl LP of Dungen's sixth studio album (also released on CD & LP in the U.S. via Mexican Summer). This is the Swedish vinyl version, on the band's original label, and pressed on a red-colored vinyl (different than the U.S. edition), with a full-color printed inner sleeve. Sweden's Dungen sweetly return with a collection of gorgeous, dream-like melodies, psychedelic stonkers and graceful, jazz-filled polyrhythms. For main man/producer/arranger/singer Gustav Ejstes, Skit I Allt means "Don't give a shit, forget about it, just go ahead and do it. A friend said: 'Skit I Allt; fuck it, do as you want, time is passing and it's changing, forget fears and hang-ups, we are small and everything is pretty insignificant on the whole. How will it be? What shall we do? We often worry so much unnecessarily. Skit i allt, it's happening now.'" In what feels like a very short decade, Sweden's Dungen has mutated at a furious pace, and Gustav Ejstes' lone constant has been change. At ease with effervescent pop, third-eye popping psychedelia, heavy rock, spider-web folk and breezy jazz, Dungen's dynamism astounds throughout Skit I Allt. Rather than remain only Ejstes' studio vision, Dungen is a muscular full band, now. Guitarist Reine Fiske, bassist Mattias Gustavsson, and drummer Johan Holmegard are fully integrated into Ejstes' vision of Dungen. Dungen debuted in 2001 with an eponymous album of long psilocybic tracks and aural tomfoolery. The next year's Stadsvandringar found Ejstes coming to grips with the language of rock before the zeitgeist-grabbing third album, Ta Det Lugt (SUBL 017LP) ignited the blogosphere so that it glowed like the aurora borealis. Not content to revel in such accolades, Tio Bitar (SUBL 019LP) flashed the band's pop smarts as well as their incandescent freak-outs while 4 (SUBL 030LP) put the band's cohesiveness on display, at once gorgeous and biting. This album is the one that gathers everything they've done and learned, bringing it all together into an impressive whole.

Title: Skit I Allt Instrumental
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: 5x7" BOX
Price: $85.00
Catalog #: SUBL 078BOX
Deluxe 5x7" single box set with instrumental versions of all the tracks from Dungen's sixth studio album, Skit I Allt. Some mixes are also in mono. Strictly-limited edition of 500 copies worldwide only. Also contains an inlay card. Skit i allt, it's happening now.'" Title: Idioten
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: LP
Price: $25.50
Catalog #: SUBL 079LP
LP version, limited edition of 500 copies. Kebnekajse takes folk rock to new heights on Idioten. Forty years after their debut, the Swedish '70s folk rock pioneers have gathered no moss. A short biography for new listeners: During the 1970s, Kebnekajse was known as Sweden's highest band, pioneering and leading the Swedish instrumental psych/progressive groups. They electrified folk music and made six albums from their inception in 1971 to 1978, after which they split up. Kebnekajse reunited during the summer of 2001 and in the early spring of 2009, they released their critically-acclaimed comeback album Kebnekajse (SUBL 026CD/LP), filled with pure Swedish folk songs. Two years later, and proven by countless tours, they now present what is perhaps their strongest recording ever. On this album, Kebnekajse widens views and lets the folk music tone find new forms, free from any tightly-held reins. As the band themselves explain: "We wanted to give the folk music new feet. From the vast canon of ancient Swedish folk songs we wanted to highlight songs that stand out, rare songs that leave room for improvisation and debauchery in the spirit of the psychedelic '70s." With these resolutions, the band got into the studio (the same one used for recording Dungen) for three sessions of four days each, from May to September. The result was 10 new tracks. This is unlimited music where intricate melodies and distinctive rhythms take unexpected turns -- electrical and eclectic while unified in a dynamic drive. Kebnekajse have deepened their interplay in their last years of touring. On the initial track "Barfota" (trans. "Barefoot") the electric guitar and violin weaves melody over pulsating drums, percussion and double basses -- heavy and soft at the same time. "Fäbodpslam" (trans. "Mountain Shack Psalm") breathes beautiful melancholy before the great polska "From-Olle" (trans. "Pious-Olle") whips up a furious pace. "Hans & Greta" is tight like a music box in its melody interplay while "Senpolska" (trans. "Late Polska") from Hälsingland becomes a drawn-out, distorted drone piece ("like a grunt from the deepest of halls of the mountain king"). The musicians also break up the action with jam trips and let loose the love of their musical roots. The title track "Idioten" (trans. "The Fool") madly mixes a Hälsingland polska with hard progressive rock. "Stockholmpolka" has a snorting, country feel mixed with dream-like Afro-funk psych and an Alpine feel. The closing Norwegian "walking tune" "Sangenuten" (trans. "The Song Without") is connected with a long tail of psychedelia. With Idioten, Kebnekajse lifts Swedish folk rock to new heights and new psychedelic overtones.

Title: Man In Space With Sounds
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: LP
Price: $29.00
Catalog #: SUBL 081LP
Recorded in 1951 but only released in conjunction with the 1962 Seattle World's Fair as the musical accompaniment to the Bubbelator, a transparent, spherical elevator that carried as many as 150 passengers, Attilio Mineo's Man In Space With Sounds remains one of the most foreboding and complex records in the cosmic exotica canon. A dark, dissonant exploration of interstellar travel rooted in the avant-garde ethos of Cage and Stockhausen, this is music that's alien not only in its presentation but also in its orientation, fusing traditional instrumentation and sound effects to the point that one becomes indistinguishable from the other. Electronic elements pulse, hum, and sputter their way to complete domination of Mineo's sonic palette, depicting a bleak, sterile future where mankind gives way to machinery. The Bubbleator transported fair visitors through an overview of the future, a technological utopia where science and space travel promised solutions to all of humanity's plights. Needless to say, that future never arrived and this music (actually recorded in the early 1950s) still sounds as futuristic today as it must have back then. The all-original compositions fall somewhere between nervous Philip Glass and 1950s sci-fi movie music, arranged with a string orchestra in a sometimes rhythmic, polyrhythmic, or merely ambient cloud of odd electronic space noises. Despite its intended technological optimism, the music is quite heavy and menacing, and the future ultimately feels pretty scary. Regardless, this recording proves Attilio Mineo to have been an unbelievably progressive and underappreciated composer and arranger. The amazing aural and visual content of this endearing package transcends everything. A rare, sought-after gem made accessible as a facsimile, with added bonus photos, in a limited pressing of 500 copies. Packaged for collectors by collectors.

Title: Belinda
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: 2LP
Price: $44.00
Catalog #: SUBL 082LP
Deluxe limited edition of 500 copies 2LP in a gatefold sleeve. This is the ultimate Swedish early '70s underground psych-funk erotica groove record! Yes, you've heard about the Swedish sin but here's the ultimate proof. Not only were the hippies practicing free love but they recorded some dirty music, too. In the early '70s, legendary outsider artist genius/madman Tom Zacharias, together with the cream of Swedish studio musicians, some beautiful Swedish hippie nymphs and a bunch of drugged-out freaks, recorded two ultra-rare LPs called Belinda and The Daughters Of Belinda, both of which are now mega-rare collector's items that never turn up, even in Sweden. These two masterpieces, with their XXX-rated lyrics, were recorded with both Swedish and English lyrics but only the Swedish language versions were ever released. Even though ads were released in both Screw magazine and Mayfair, the English language versions were kept in the can. Here are both versions plus some real sleazy bonus tracks that were not on the CD edition plus extended liner notes re-telling the previously-untold story of how this recording came to be. Great, groovy, funky acid erotica with loads of gurgling fuzz/wah-wah guitars, booming bass, wicked drum beats and over-the-top XXX erotic lyrics.

Title: Ta Det Lugnt
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: 3LP BOX
Price: $70.00
Catalog #: SUBL 083LP
Subliminal Sounds finally presents the complete legendary Ta Det Lugnt album as a limited deluxe box-set with 2 LPs, a bonus 12" EP Tyst Minut and a full-sized poster. The album is presented here for the first time with the correct vinyl mastering. The original, and previously only available 2004 vinyl LP pressing, was incorrectly manufactured from digital master instead of analog, had several defects and didn't sound at all as intended. We have now gone back to the original vinyl master and made a correct and superior vinyl pressing so you can hear the analog sound as originally intended. Limited edition of 1,000 copies only. The most astounding 2004 breakthrough album from Sweden's Dungen; a modern classic psychedelic album. The title translates roughly into English as "Take It Easy" which kind of perfectly sums up Dungen's sound. It's immediate and you want to get involved, but there's also such a laid-back, hippy vibe to the whole thing. Ta Det Lugnt is a beautiful musical trip out into the Swedish forests and back again.

Format: LP
Price: $25.50
Catalog #: SUBL 084LP
LP version. This is the second proper full-length album by Swedish super-group The Amazing. The Amazing fell far from the tree. A natural process: coming together through affection, then slowly crystallizing into a folk-rock-psych-pop-collective slowly pushing, bending, then playing with any preconceived notions of pop. When a band takes a name like The Amazing, they'd better have the chops to back it up. Happily, this Swedish outfit -- a collective headed by Reine Fiske and Johan Holmegard of neo-psych juggernauts Dungen and singer-songwriter Christoffer Gunrup -- are masterful enough to take that mantle on. Friends first and foremost, it's this kindred spirit that imbues the band album with a feeling unlike that of most releases -- one of natural harmony, persistent progression and with a panoramic gaze fixed on distant settings. Gentle Stream is widescreen, panoramic, horizon-reaching stuff. An elegantly-constructed record of moody psychedelic majesty, it comes with a greater dose of CSNY-style Laurel Canyon bliss than those previous recordings. Its eight songs clock in at a luxurious 45 minutes long, during which astral guitars intertwine in serpentine solos, horns blast rainbow melodies and Gunrup's flute-like voice floats elegantly over the sunset sounds. Nothing is introverted or overworked -- everything is balanced, kept together by natural melodies, soulful vocals and just how perfect should be. Gentle Stream is a feeling, an organic consequence of something that effortlessly came together. The line-up completed by Fredrik Swahn, Alexis Benson and highly-rated jazz musicians Moussa Fadera and Jonas Kullhammar, The Amazing recorded the new LP in Stockholm, Sweden and formed plans to collect themselves in this incredible unison. There are doubtless stories to be told. Including the one about playing a show for the Swedish Royal Family and Pink Floyd, where in the crowd Roger Waters appreciatively caught a bouquet thrown from the band during a standing ovation, but this mysterious band hold one principle dear to their hearts: "The music speaks for itself."

Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: TIL 001CD
2012 repress. "The first in our new series called Swedish Underground Archives. The series will focus on classic yet mostly unreleased recordings by known and unknown to mythical Swedish progressive/psychedelic groups from the 1960s/70s. First out is the best ever recording from the legendary Trad Gras & Stenar (Trees Grass & Stones) recorded at the first ever Swedish outdoors summer hippie festival in 1970. The sound is just amazing: a stoned lysergic wall of acid guitars jamming away and never letting up, pounding bass, furious drums and mystical howling vocals. A true landmark in psychedelic/progressive history."

Title: Pärson Sound
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: 2CD
Price: $29.00
Catalog #: TIL 002CD
2012 repress! A spectacular archival package of primitive drone and minimalist rock/trance from the Swedish underground, believe the hype as follows; one of the most memorable CD audio documents of the year 2000+ period. "After years of research we're proud to present the nucleus of the Swedish 1960's-70s underground psych rock scene: the legendary Pärson Sound. This 2-CD set presents the most remarkable Swedish underground band, known in a later incarnation and continuation as International Harvester and Träd, Gräs och Stenar (Trees, Grass and Stones), and features both intricate studio recordings and orgiastic live performances. Pärson Sound never released any records in their time and that is why a very few have heard about them at all. The recordings date from 1967/68 while the band explored unknown musical territory as well as inner- and outer space. In 1968 they were invited by Andy Warhol to play at the opening of his exhibition: 'Screens, Films, Boxes, Clouds and a Book', at the museum of Modern Art in Stockholm and also opened for the Doors. Influenced by the musical concepts of Terry Riley, Pärson Sound worked at discovering and perfecting their own unique approach towards the mixing of rock and minimalism. They created some of the most remarkable psych- trance-drone-pre-noise music-rock sounds ever recorded. Pärson Sound's music described contexts, interplay and organic growth and shaped a conception of the world -- an opposite of fragmentation, individual achievements and intellectual construction. This world was to be perceived as one body, a whole of inviolable parts. The minimalist repetition with slight changes gives associations of a slow growth, of cyclic process, of breathing, pulse, life, movement and machines. The persistent repetition gives the listener an opportunity to discover the sounds, to meditate, to go into the music, join the same journey. Many times one can discover a relationship with music of other cultures. In comparison the music of the Western world can feel cursory, unreliable -- as a fear of entering deep into feeling. Pärson Sound's compositions often consist of harsh structures -- a rhythm pattern with ostinato bass, a melodic figure -- which forms a base for improvisation. Other songs have a more thoroughly elaborated structure that still leaves room for variation. The moment, the audience, the location formed their music. Their key phrase was 'We, Here and Now!' With time, the music came to have an increasing 'religious' or shamanistic streak -- with a raised demand of intensity, presence and warmth -- a striving for euphoria and ecstasy. The bands psychedelic approach towards music is so fresh and vital that it transcends time. Listen to it now! A 2xCD with an informative booklet in English and lots of photos."

Artist: BABY GRANDMOTHERS
Title: Baby Grandmothers
Label: SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: TIL 023CD
2012 repress, originally released in 2007. Baby Grandmothers were a short-lived Swedish band, but one of the most prolific and unique psychedelic, modal, experimental power-trios to emerge out of the Scandinavian psychedelic underground scene in 1967. Although hailing from Stockholm, Sweden they only released a single in Finland, which has since become one of the most sought-after pieces of vinyl from the era. Baby Grandmothers were formed out of the legendary R&B/beat band T-Boones in the summer of 1967. T-Boones are probably best known for their "At The Club/King Of The Orient" single which is one of the best, and most collectable of the Swedish garage beat era. Guitar-wiz Kenny Håkansson joined the band in 1965 and with the group down to a trio they drifted into the psychedelic sounds of the time and in August 1967 released the single "I Want You," which definitely was the first hard-rock recording ever made in Sweden. The band was then re-christened Baby Grandmothers by the co-founder of the newly opened psychedelic club Filips, for which he needed a house-band. Filips was the legendary breeding ground for bands such as Hansson & Karlsson, Pärson Sound, as well as orgiastic all-night jams with foreign luminaries such as Jimi Hendrix and the Mothers of Invention. Baby Grandmothers also supported Jimi Hendrix on his Swedish tour in 1968 and then turned into Mecki Mark Men, who became the first Swedish rock band to tour the U.S. Founding member Kenny Håkansson went on to form the highly influential Kebnekajse, who created the Swedish electric psych-folk sound. This unique collection presents live recordings made at Filips, their impossibly rare single and a rare live recording made in Finland. Painstakingly collected and researched by Dungen's guitarist Reine Fiske. 16-page booklet included.
