"CD version is the mini replica of the vinyl version, in slim plastic case with clear insert. Love Will Tear Us Apart should have been the band's most shining moment, instead it became their tragic swan song. Released just a month after frontman Ian Curtis' heart wrenching suicide, the song came to be seen as the unheeded warning of the impending tragedy. This special edition features all three versions of the song that transformed Joy Division from mere band into legend. "There are few female folk singers with the natural talent of Anne Briggs, and although she never became a major star (mostly because she wasn't interested) it is difficult to overstate her influence on the British folk scene of the '60s and '70s. (i.e. Pentangle, Fairport Convention). Discovered in a local club in 1962 before she had even turned 18, she was soon touring all over the British Isles, living the troubador's life and influencing a generation of young folk musicians wherever she went. She went on to release three solo albums between 1971 and 1973 before tragically abandoning the music scene forever. Brilliant musicians who walk away from their career at their creative peak are few and far between (remember Cat Stevens?), but that is exactly what Anne Briggs did...and fans and fellow musicians have been begging her to go back into the recording studio ever since! "By 1970 Fleetwood Mac were immensely popular, touring constantly both at home and abroad. In February 1970 the band rocked Boston's legendary 'Boston Tea Party' playing three amazing concerts there for three consecutive nights in a row. The performances were recorded in hopes of releasing a live album, but frontman Peter Green soon announced his decision to quit the band and the masters were promptly shelved. He, along with Mick Jagger, produced Marianne Faithfull's earliest releases, sometimes playing on her live performances. Like so many British rock stars of the sixties and seventies, he also spent time playing with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, where he met sax player Johnny Almond. The two soon formed Mark-Almond duo, and released several influential jazz rock albums during the seventies. Mark, however, eventually moved to New Zealand where he began playing more new age music, like this 1995 concept album of Celtic ambient music released on the White Cloud label. "To fully understand and appreciate a band like the 13th Floor Elevators, one had to see them play live, preferably more than once--the reason being that no two Elevators shows were ever alike, ranging from brilliantly euphoric to unbelievably catastrophic. Of course, the unevenness of their performances was due to one small but powerful thing called LSD, which the band took in copious amounts prior to each show (often charitably passing it out to members of the audience as well). By 1976, Cipollina was heading up a new band called Raven featuring a 10-player all-star line-up that included the likes of Greg Douglass (Steve Miller Band), Jim McPherson (Copperhead), Dave Walker (Fleetwood Mac), and Nicky Hopkins (The Rolling Stones). The songs were a mix of originals and well-selected covers and just as they were on the verge of becoming the next big thing the band broke up (but thankfully not before heading into a studio to record an album's worth of material). Some of these recordings eventually surfaced on a German label in 1980, but for the most part remained a little-known chapter in Cipollina's discography.
