"Mat Jonson's Wagon Repair returns with a superb offering by our good friend Todd aka Konrad Black, known for his previous releases on Swayzack's Volt and the likes. The Vancouver resident and constantly Europe travelling Mr. Black delivers two reduced dramatically intense 'X Files' tracks that come very close to Matt's own releases. Mysterious intelligently and very open structured the two tracks are brightest lights and darkest nights at the same time (if you know what we mean). A thick, long lasting, effective high density double A-side rocker for all times."

"What a name for this pretty incredible two-tracker.
Return of the Zombie Bikers
is a massive spine shiveringly intense almost d'n'b b-lined big room track recorded in early 2005 and can easily be compared to Mat's strongest moments including 'Decompression' on Minus. Don't get us wrong though, this track doesn't necessarily need the comparison, it easily stands out by far. Let it work on and let it touch you, we feel it's probably one of the strongest records MJ ever did. 'Put your booty shorts on' is yet another A-side track written in 2002 dedicated to his wife Frank and remixed with including a vocal in 2005. A unique taste of what is to come in future live sets at the festivals this summer. This is the 'hi end' in micro house coming."

WAG 005EP
The Missing Link is from Denver, CO. "
Philler Part 1
takes us on a journey into the crunchy basement of the Missing Link into forays reminiscent of earlier movements of techno mixed into one E.P. The A-side, 'Meiw,' starts of with a mix of industrial sounds merging in with a 7/8 tempo that keeps the foot tapping unconsciously throughout the track. Challenging the movements of techno today, Missing Link brings a number of distinctive sounds to the foreground in this track. For the B-side we go further into the dark, funk ridden sounds of 'Phi' and 'Golf.' Link has once again brought together a combination of sounds that leaves us wondering what is going to come next out of each track. With diversity moving from booty shaking bass lines to experimental hooks forged together on one track, Link is once again forging new and unexpected paths with

"Mr. Black delivers 2 pulsating forward cuts full of 'micro drama' that come very close to Mat's own releases. Mysterious intelligently and very open structured dubby Vancouver/Ca Discotec -- tracks that are brightest lights and darkest nights at the same time (if you know what we mean). A cool, long lasting, effective high density double A side rocker with perfect use of Ghostman's haunting voice. The A side is the creepier of the two and the revamp, also done by Konrad, this time under his 'Rockit' moniker (gee, this 'travelling Wagonbury' knows how to play hide & seek) comes with a dirtier, more in your face bassline."

"
The Sick Memory EP
is the initial release from Hrdvsion. Hrdvsion is Nathan Jonson, brother of Wagon Repair's own Mathew. Just another step in Wagon Repair's short but already multifaceted journey in electronic music. Crossing multiple genres Hrdvsion brings his core to the forefront on the debut. Summed up by Mathew, we can see the start of a further movement in the label itself: 'The man in command has a way of making the ghetto blaster he used to create most of these tracks sound like something that was done in Loose Change's studio. His passion for music shines. My bro has never taken a step away from what his heart says is the groove.'
The Sick Memory EP
is another sign of things to come from Hrdvision and Wagon Repair as the sounds, styles and experimentation continue to expand and move forward with every release."

Philler Part 2
gives a nod both to the dancefloor aesthetic and to heads looking for something more eclectic in their sounds. 'Choice' is another long dark journey into the mind of The Missing Link, while the B-Side leads off with a killer pulsating bass line that moves throughout the track. Missing Link's sound comes through in this with a sinuous bass line that are sure to find their way across dance floors internationally. "Wagon Repair mystery label partner Loose Change makes his highly anticipated production debut and does so in style. 'Kosovo' floats in with a liquid, subtly swinging beat, bubbly bassline and gentle key chords creeping in slowly: first sounding sweet but later on changing on into a beautiful yet haunting and slightly sinister melody from a grinding musical box. The intense, slightly unsettling atmosphere -- as in an Italian '70s horror flick -- is further enhanced by the permanently nagging acidline and horn lick synth pads. For more manic dancing check 'Orange Feels': totally insane chopped up beats and f*d up string loops challenge you for some advanced electronic boogie."

"Underground darling Mathew Johnson with another extra-large three track stunner: right from the start swirling synth over a pinching beat suck you into a vortex before a rubbery bassline takes the lead and an electrical storm of dark, haunting sounds wrap you in. Well, words don't do this truly symphonic oeuvre no justice -- this has to be experienced in the dark and in earsplitting volume. On the flip MJ gives free reign to his unlimited creativity with an impressive soundtrack-style tableau of electronic jazz, sounding like late bass-revolutionary Jaco Pastorius descending from the outerworld to interweave some of his crazy warbled, bend notes into a messianic David Axelrod arrangement, mixed at Lee Scratch Perry's echo chamber. Miles above your typical paint-by-numbers club fare -- simply HUGE!"

"Active for more than ten years and one of the luminaries of the Canadian electronic music scene Mike Shannon just settled to Barcelona but left this nasty three tracker as a parting gift for his Wagon Repair buddies. Possibly Mike found quite a large cockroach population 'Under the Carpet' as he was packing his stuff cause the jumpy percussive beats, rubber bassline and staccato sounds that make up the itchy A-side track sound like those nice cohabitants had quite some busy party going on. The B-side holds two more stunners that are bound to cause some ruckus -- not only underneath the rugs but also on floors of all kinds -- with 'Global Pleasureism' boasting an addictive pizzicato synth-string melody and stepping beats plus cluttering electronic funk of 'Valence.'"

"Long time no see -- Wagon Repair are back -- with fresh releases recently on Mutek, Philpot, Musique Risquee, Kompakt and Revolver, The Mole returns once again to Mat Johnson's label. Two tracks, two thick sides of our blissed bro from Montreal. Sick Moodyman-style mid to uptempo groovers that build and build with intensity. Shuffling, twirling, fascinating. One of his best gems to date. This EP truly shows us the true talents of this man and proves that

"Cobblestone Jazz has been performing live electronic music for five years together. The three members of the group are programmer Tyger Dhula, keyboardists Danuel Tate and Mathew Jonson. The nature of their music balances electronic composition with a live and moving element that results in the exploration of many different styles. Cobblestone is a bit of an anomaly in this day and age of studio refinement, opting to approach music from a performance perspective first, as opposed to recreating studio pieces for their live shows. A large part of this is due to the involvement of Tate, whose background as a jazz musician has led to a large emphasis on playing live. The group's influences range from jazz and dub to breakbeats and minimal techno, and many points in between. Likened by some to electronic whales singing to each other, the groove undulates and develops constantly over the course of each session. Both tracks are recorded and mixed in a live outboard setting. No pre-arrangement was done; the tracks are just improvised and mixed straight to tape. Both build and destroy dancefloors, capturing minds and feet, waking us up to the unique and unmistakable sound of Cobblestone Jazz."

WAG 019EP
"Mike Shannon is proprietor of the Cynosure label, and a highly impressive DJ on the ones-and-twos (and sometimes threes). 'What's Your Pleasure' is a bouncing bleep minimal house cut that pays homage to early '90s DBX traxx with an underline of bubbling monophonic tweak. As the groove progresses and runs into a break, a shimmering layer of synth creeps into the mix. All whilst the groove and bleep begin to be thrown upside down. The result is a hallucinogenic combination designed for the induced dancefloor. 'Playin The Fool' follows suit of the A-side with a slightly contaminated groove. Slick synth sequences trickle into the mix over a punchy groove but yet again the sound takes a sharp left turn for moments, throwing the listener a sonic curve that could induce vertigo at the right volume. Finally, 'Suddenly Hossed' is a DJ-friendly groover that stays in the same vein, delivering tight percussion programming and ever evolving synth sequencing. If you're not careful your one drink could feel like three with this track given the right amount of power."

Conversations With the Past EP
Label:
WAGON REPAIR (CANADA)
Format:

Catalog #:
WAG 020EP
"For the last few years The Mole has been trying to translate his experience in clubs and parties into a sound that is at once reflective, inspired by all the great music that has moved him (and so many others), and yet personal. Deepness is of the essential for The Mole, taking his cue as much from Moodymann and Wildpitch as from Larry Levan and Ron Hardy. Being a vinyl obsessive, or black crack addict, DJing has completely reshaped this Montreal resident's life. And finally, after taking and learning so much from this worldwide vinyl community, he is finally ready to give a little back. On the A-side you'll find 'Jingover,' a jam The Mole created with real handclaps (hooray for handclaps!) and a whole lot of samples. Both tracks here are similar in form to The Mole's live sets, he sets up a bunch of loops and rides them for a while, spontaneous magic, if you will. 'Steady Down,' the B-side, is one long jam Mole did and it has a trajectory just like its name. The Mole got the name from his Russian piano tuner who when asked how he's doing responds with 'steady down.' An appropriate hand movement accompanies this and he explains it as being a description of life... steady down towards the grave. The Russian thought it was funny. Anyway, the track has absolutely nothing to do with death, it just goes steady down."

WAG 021EP
"Mathew Jonson has released widely acclaimed records on labels as revered as Kompakt, Sub Static, and Minus; and has since established his own Wagon Repair imprint that is already renowned for the quality of its output. Adventurous and eccentric, his records can meander from the intricately beautiful to unashamedly grimy in seconds, a trademark theme detectable in this, the Jonson brothers' first released collaboration. Nathan sets the pace of this track, focusing mainly on drum programming, whilst Mathew sculpts the bass and melodic content with layers of analog and digital sounds; resulting in an infectious concoction of breaks, grime and drum 'n' bass. This collaboration was also partly conceived as a remix project, and an opportunity for the brothers to cut up their sibling's creations. First up for the chop is Mathew's 'Return of the Zombie Bikers.' with Hrdvsion using Ableton to cut and mix a distinct interpretation of his brother's work on the B-side."

"Behind the production of Minilogue are Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson. With different origins they got together in 1996 and are today working full time as animalistic producers in their studio in Sweden. After 10 successful years in the music business, Marcus & Sebastian now are Minilogue, a musical and animal concept without the boundaries of genres. In the last year they've released on Crosstown Rebels, Traum, W.I.R, Silver Planet, Audiobahn, Size Doesn't Matter, etc. The music is playful, ambitious, simple, complex, fun and melancholic and extremely animalistic. They have an album
Animals
ready to drop in 2007. 'Elephant's Parade' was played completely live with drum machines, synths and analog sequencers. The duo like to record this way (compared to stuck in front of the computer) as they get more free in creating a specific and spontaneous feeling. Here one might imagine a big gang of crazy elephants getting lost on a psychedelic parade. In the middle of the track, things are getting a bit weird, perhaps too much amarulla fruit, which gives the second part its childish and naïve playfulness."

Catalog #:
WAG 023EP
"The youngest of 3 musical brothers, Matt Cavendar reluctantly earned the moniker The Missing Link due to his ungainly posture and size 13 shoes; big shoes he has more than filled with his lauded releases on Mathew Jonson's Wagon Repair and Seattle's Depth Recordings. Creating technical and glitchy techno, The Missing Link audibly draws influence from forward thinking '80s bands like Cabaret Voltaire, Skinny Puppy and Nitzer Ebb, particularly present in last track 'Uncle Bill's Cabin,' which, with its nasty bass and marching pace, has an elementally heavy industrial edge. 'Bur' is the most breaky, abstract and busy cut on this record. While first track 'Fishin' is an experimental journey into IDM. A self prescribed 'Audiographer,' here we are presented with a glitchy map of Matt's vast sound collection, and a hint of what is yet to come from another Wagon Repair innovator."

Format:

Catalog #:
WAG 024EP
"Wagon Repair welcome a new artist to their ranks in the form of Italian minimal master Luca Bacchetti. After a host of releases on Italian label Tenax, spawned from the cult club of the same name, this is a heavy dose of entrancing minimal -- equally suited for the dancefloor or the late train ride home. A side 'Rolling Brooklyn' pushes the envelope a bit further, a busy and investigatory track driven by sniffing snare sounds, moist synth balloons and screeching metallic accents; ascending from chaos to minimal bliss. Distinctly urban, B side 'What Ever' progresses defiantly amidst reverb laden howls and sirens, throbbing to climax with stabbed bass and rolling percussion in an impenetrable surge to the senses. Final cut 'Flat Mates' keeps up the pace. Led by a dizzy synth haze and fueled by a tight house rhythm, Luca adds acoustic metal drum sounds into the mix to broaden the tone."

WAG 025EP
Limited one-sided release. "After the overwhelming success of last year's singles 'India In Me' and 'Dump Truck,' the irrepressible Cobblestone Jazz present
DMT
as a taster in anticipation of their debut album.
DMT
was recorded while making the upcoming full length, however will not feature when the album drops later this year. It is a white label teaser, and the track's pulsing and imminent progression mimics the very purpose of its release. Cobblestone Jazz produce their tracks live, with a strong emphasis on improvisation, and the trio of programmer Tyger Dhula, keyboardists Danuel Tate and Mathew Jonson, make full use of their formative jazz training to transform the musical outfit into a pragmatic and responsive unit, a living and breathing creation, free of formulaic sequence. 'DMT' is a particularly good example of this, progressing with a confidence and purposefulness that borders on sensual mastery. Samples and trace sounds are revealed into the mix, weaving a hypnotic and infectious reverie that calculatingly refrains from climax. A display of power that is anything but vulgar, Cobblestone aren't showing us all their cards just yet. Magic."

WAG 026EP
"Canada's Mathew Jonson has become one of the pre-eminent producers in electronic music today, creating some of the most influential tracks of the past few years both as a solo artist and as a founding member of the peerless musical trio, Cobblestone Jazz. This, his fifth solo release on his own label Wagon Repair, continues in the tradition of enterprise and experiment that we should expect from his Vancouver studio. This EP presents a series of firsts, with Mathew trying his hand at electro-pop for the first time, arranging a track for the first time on computer, and it sees his unaffected voice feature for the first time on a track. Opener 'Stop' offers the first of the firsts. This dreamy electro-pop odyssey is a half written, half improvised jam, recorded live while singing, playing the vocoder and mixing the track simultaneously. Synthesized rainfall descends on a squelched funk bassline, as free vocoded passages meander between phased percussion in a wondrously woven workout. The B-side 'Real Dreams' signals both the first time Mathew has arranged a track on a computer, and the first time his pure vocal has made it onto tape. A downtempo arrangement mixed live to stereo track, this murky and cathartic exploration was borne of realizing things about a past relationship, as descending harmonized melodies pulse contemplatively to a defiantly progressive beat. The shift of the creative process from live, physical creation to reflective computer editing is significant, and fitting to the prevalent mood of evaluation and reassessment. In combining these elements with Mathew's unsynthetic vocal, we present an intimate and explorative new dimension to his already enthralling repertoire." Pressed on marbled pink vinyl.

"Wagon Repair only releases the best in new electronic music, and this time offers the debut release of Glacier, a collaboration between Pier Bucci and Crazy Larry, fresh faces with fresh ideas. In his first release for Wagon Repair, Chilean Pier Bucci combines rhythms and melodies with a Latin twist and a hint of German efficiency. His debut album on Crosstown Rebels
Familia
, was one of the highlights of 2005 and Pier has also released a blissful downtempo album
Introducing Light and Sound
with Luciano as Monne Automne. Crazy Larry comes out of Denver, Colorado, and this is also his first release on Wagon Repair. Prior releases on FISM and Auralism have established him as an exciting new talent in the community. Opener 'Fall River Road' moves from a minimal step with a Latin flavor into avalanches of synth before chiming and bubbling into a busy fluster. Signature touches of both artists are audibly present throughout this night time hot step. 'Rocky Mountains' moves with a purposeful pulse, reverberations and intermittent tones leading into a buzzing downbeat synth hook. Resolved in a bouncing climax with a double time exit to master the masses. 'Ultrasonic Humidifier' pushes forward amidst white static, metallic echoes and plush key meanderings, which climb to form a melody that lifts heavenly and drops to the depths in a rich and colorful sensory spectrum."

, forthcoming on Wagon Repair. 'Lime In Da Coconut' is a potion brimming with transformation. Cobblestone approach a simple key melody from every angle imaginable, with the harmonies, disharmonies, bubbling accents and rhythmic permutations exposing the otherworldly potential of the simplest of tunes. A sinister whispered vocal conducts affairs, seemingly flustered at its inability to contain the unruly elements in this wonderful experiment. On 'Saturday Night' a deep synth line and ghostly vocoded moans progress through a jungle of percussion and falling echoed tones, steadily approaching a beat that enlivens like water on a desert journey, or rather, like vodka on a Saturday night. The dizzy finale spins around your ears, a bit like the ceiling after a particularly heavy weekend adventure... be sure to be well rested before tackling this sensory safari."

"The extraordinary jazz pianist Danuel Tate is more commonly known as the keyboardist behind the music of Cobblestone Jazz, exemplifying their free and improvised approach to the creative process. This, his first virtuoso release on Wagon Repair, is a bold and accomplished work. His unchained melodies animating looped jazz samples, infusing modernity and new relevance to music from a period of unparalleled innovation and influence. On 'Bloss' free keys illuminate a deep bass lick as vocoded melodies glide over an old time trumpet breakdown. 'I Want My Money Back' - a tight cymbal roll resonates like rain above scatted vocoder and keys, as a looped lounge lull sets a martini mood. 'Pushcard' - wild flutes and keys soar over a racing house beat and stumbling trumpet loop. 'Slim Jim Boko' - the most experimental of the bunch, samples shuffle and interject between the simple pulse, key melodies and reverberated guitar reflections."

Like A Sadhu
EP. A prominent tech-house DJ and prolific producer with releases on Tenax Recordings and Safari Electronique prior to his work with Wagon Repair, Luca can also be found presenting the excellent Xtrabass show on Samurai FM. Opener 'Like A Sadhu' is a driving tech-house track, motored by a pulsating bass loop and enlivened by fast approaching synth highlights, buzzing rhythmic tones and restless percussive transformations. A2 - 'Trust' is saturated with new dimensions, mixing a deep bass drive and clattering percussion with intensifying synth passages and an unnerving ambience. B1 - 'The Way To Corvocado' is the deepest of the trilogy, mixing a sparse soundscape with subtle, percussive pushes as a stabbed chord passage adds melody."

The Modern Deep Left Quartet
with his comrades from
Cobblestone Jazz
, The Mole has established a strong reputation for his jubilant house and humble attitude. He's released on Itiswhatitis, collaborated with
Paddy
from Cobblestone as the
Smokin Posties

"Aint The Way It Supposed To Be" leads with sustained pads, infectious Latin percussion and cinematic string samples, climbing to close with a bass-heavy disco drive. "Alice You Need Him" builds around looped dripping melodies, taking things deep with shimmering soundscapes and modulated synth. "Hey Girl (I Feel So Good)" is an anthemic house number, building on sampled ride riffs and prodding synth to the sound of an excitable audience. An edit of recent Wagon Repair single "Baby, You're The One" follows, with stabbed key melodies, deeply reverberated percussion and looped soulful vocals, creating a deep house sweat fest. The wobbled melodies of "Gracias A Los Ninos" plunges us deeper, with pulsing submarine-style pads offering a brief breather. Equally chilled, "Like The Way" builds slowly around an eccentric drum pattern and mantric vocal sample, before "Smiling And Running" gathers pace with funk percussion, deep pulsed synth tones and panned bass rhythms. "Knock Twice" sticks to the funk theme, with smooth bass progressions and tight percussion, escalating with choppy guitar and effected flute samples. Closing on a lullaby, "When It Tastes So Good" is pure chocolate, with soothing sampled keys and bouncing bass dozing into a lazy Spanish guitar and Caribbean steel drum finale -- not the first indication that The Mole dreams of one day burrowing his way to tropical climes.

Scott Monteith
, a long-time Montrealer and recent Berlin ex-pat who has been releasing his own special blend of dub-laden, minimal electronics since 2000 for labels such as Cynosure, Musique Risquée, ~scape, and Spectral, to name but a few. This is his first full-length release for Wagon Repair. The album is aesthetically informed by his long term collaborative friendship with
Robert Henke
(
Monolake
), the creative relationship with Wagon Repair, the close proximity of his fellow artists in Berlin and the opportunity to collaborate with
Paul St. Hilaire
. It is no surprise that an album of such vast scope be largely inspired by the artist's own transition from Montreal-based producer releasing on Berlin label ~scape for 5 years, to Berlin-based producer releasing on a Canadian label. An uncanny logic is present throughout, weaving a fluid narrative from disparate influences and styles. Opener "Rise Again" is the first of two collaborations with St. Hilaire, whose beautiful rasta lament is supported by a huge bass sound. In recording all of the virtual instruments through mic'd speakers as one would do with a real band, he's given the track a distinctly "live" feel that is a thematic element of all the tracks on the album. The title track transcends the 140 bpm dubstep standard, and closely resembles some of Deadbeat's earlier releases on ~scape. "Grounation (Berghain Drum Jack)" is a dramatic percussive onslaught that draws parallels between ritualistic rasta drumming and Berghain's own pummeling percussive endurance tests. "Xberg Ghosts" explores a distinctly Berliner Basic Channel/Chain Reaction sound that's been a big influence for Scott over the years, while "Deep Structure" employs a truly roots production style using spring reverb, bucket brigade delays and heavy compression -- applying these older tools to a more modern house groove and exploring the ties between modern dance music and its roots in dub. The late night jam of "Night Stepping" and lazy afternoon dub of "Sun People (Dub Divisionaire)" lay a path for closing track "Babylon Correction," which again features St. Hilaire. Frustrated that the recent renewed interest in dub seems to mostly encompass "minor key, sad, dark shit," this is Deadbeat's attempt to capture the righteous and uplifting side to the style that is the key to his favorite classic dub cuts, with St. Hilaire contributing vocals so massive, they might just knock you off your seat.

transcends borders in its range of influence and reflects consciousness in the fluidity and tangibly live origins of its creation. Opener "Childish" builds from meditative beginnings with looped synth, wandering pads and wildfire percussive cycles that concoct a deep and dreamy landscape. "Romaniks" creates space between electronic and acoustic spheres with Latin-soaked beats encircling a subdued kick. Mantric vocal chants inject a mystical dimension into the affair, its psychedelic overtones continuing into "Westoid," where Dinky's vocal lament is complimented by the baritone accents of

. "Goldfishes" bubbles into being with processed choral scales, while "Rainfallic" is a mid-tempo trip of lazy legato harmonies and epic Telecaster drones. "Anemik" is a restless electronic frenzy, with melodic and percussive elements feuding amidst staccato vocals, effervescent machine transmissions and a penetrating central kick. "Glacial" opens with reverberant vocals and deep percussion that swims through murky pads and delayed keys. "Ceramik" weaves a tight beat, with warm Rhodes accompaniment, live percussion and ramped vocal passages. Thumbed melodic patterns and sonorous key stabs characterize "Glassik," while "Skyped" intertwines grandiose processed chorals, deep metallic percussion and leveling pads. The infectious, arpeggiated melodies of "Epilepsia" are invigorated by live Latin percussion, "Fadik" is a wonky love song set to cascading beats, strummed guitar and electronic emissions, and "Nocturnal" unsettles with moribund ambient shivers to complete the kaleidoscopic range of flavors and emotions offered by this remarkable record. Canada's
Cobblestone Jazz
are back with a second powerhouse album that captures their live-in-the-studio energy like never before. A mixture of heady, jazz-inspired house grooves and below-the-belt analog funk, it raises the bar for electronic dance music in 2010. Titled
The Modern Deep Left Quartet
, the record marks an important addition to the Cobblestone Jazz line-up, as the trio of
Mathew Jonson
,
Danuel Tate
and
Tyger Dhula
bring aboard
Colin de la Plante
(aka
The Mole
). De la Plante is no newcomer to the Cobblestone crew: the four musicians have been playing together for nearly 15 years, since their first performances in small-town Victoria, British Columbia, and they've all shared the stage as the
Modern Deep Left Quartet
. (In 2005, they also recorded an EP for Wagon Repair.) Now, using that moniker as their new album title, the band officially anoints de la Plante a full-time member of the studio line-up. "Rehearse" and "record" actually mean virtually the same thing for Cobblestone Jazz: their method is spontaneous, in part because their gear requires it. There's no saving patches with analog machines like theirs... antiques like the TR-808, TR-909 and SH-101; newfangled head-scratchers like Cwejman and Doepfer modular synths; strange, custom-built doohickeys of uncertain purpose; and of course, Tate's trusty vocoder and Fender Rhodes. Tracks begin from scratch and develop across freeform jam sessions that often see day turning into night (and sometimes, back into day). The final mix is done in real-time, with three of the four musicians spread out across a semi-circle of machines, attacking all the buttons, knobs and faders they can handle, yelling out the changes, filtering and looping on the fly. At the same time, Tate lays down his Rhodes solos and accompaniments in one shot. Rather than making the music busier, the extra set of hands has finessed it even further. All the staples of the Cobblestone Jazz sound are there: subtly swinging machine beats, mind-bending arpeggios, Detroit-inspired chord progressions and, of course, powerful bass lines that roll like beads of quicksilver. But the sound of
The Modern Deep Left Quartet
is unusually fluid, open and nuanced. In marked contrast to today's hypercompressed, digitalist dance music, this is a sound that breathes like no other. The more deeply you listen, the more hidden details you'll hear.
