Lo-fi was rather an involuntary attribute in the '90s. '90s hip-hop instrumentals with the sound aesthetics of old 12-bit samplers are the blueprint for everything that runs under chill and lo-fi beats today. For this double-LP, Sepalot dug deep into his demo box, listened to countless DAT cassettes and dug up 36 pearls from the period 1996-2002. Sepalot: "I had to laugh a lot at times and was sometimes embarrassed, but the innocence of the early days also has an insane power. The best beats demos and sketches from my early days now get their moment." Old demos from DAT tapes.

2019 release; 2021 repress. The first Sepalot Quartet album. "The issue was always: How could I transport my work as a producer and beatmaker on to a stage? How can something, that is happening behind locked doors in the studio, emerge into a live experience?" With this vivacious live quartet, he has found his answer. Songs from a productive solo career spanning a period of over ten years, Sepalot has a wide variety of songs to pick and choose from. Even in the live set up, his love for electronic music remains unaffected and the subtle influence of hip-hop is undeniable. Despite this being the initial state of the project, a distinctive sound has evolved from jamming together in dark rehearsal rooms. The different characters complement each other like a puzzle on stage, though Sepalot's part as producer and svengali is undisputable. Fabian Füss on the drums -- longtime partner on the drum set and the voice behind Sepalot's unmistakable radio hit "Rainbows". Angela Aux on the bass and mostly the voice of the quartet is a writer and solo artist in his own right. Having released albums on Millaphone his roots are undeniably in hip hop with a heavy tinge of folk. Matthias Lindermayr on the trumpet, who originated from a family of musicians, is highly decorated jazz virtuoso. His very own releases grace modern jazz specialist label Enja Records. Finally, Sepalot brings them together and making them more than the sum of its parts. The electronic beats, the pulsating bass, Sepalot's enthusiasm for ambient sound design -- all this remains unchanged and is garnished with the element of jazz. A unique, unequalled sound that strives for higher ideals and has immense international potential.

NOWNEXT is a voyage from the past to the future, from now to then, from what's behind us to what's waiting for us just around the next corner. In musical terms these are the gaps that appear when you drift between genres and take risks. Strolling far from the well-traveled Zeitgeist path. The second album by the Sepalot Quartet floats through this timeless space and fills those cracks with a relaxed fusion of jazz meets indie meets electronica, not once denying Sepalot's hip hop roots. This freedom of expression can also be considered a sign of our times, with a generation coming of age without rivalling youth phenomena. Where a jazz show is held in a techno club with no further explanation needed. With their first release, the Quartet still relied on remakes from the established Sepalot discography, with their current work they laid the foundation for a truly solid form of musical self-discovery. NOWNEXT is enlivened by this spirit and offers a fascinating and confident blend of varied sounds spanning time and space. With all this being said, NOWNEXT is truly an up to date album of international format, feeding from the rich experience of its diverse members (Sepalot, Angela Aux, Fabian Füss, Matthias Lindermayr). Memories, associations, and a well carved vision are melted into a masterpiece. NOWNEXT is the latest offering by Sepalot and his quartet and needs to experience with all senses.
