When Recondite aka Lorenz Brunner emerged in 2012 with his debut album, On Acid (AT 001LP), everyone was still learning about the German producer's inward-looking dancefloor sound. A few years later, his sinewy jams have proved near-universal -- like an underground Zelig, he's fit perfectly everywhere from Rødhåd's Dystopian label to Ghostly International and Innervisions. With Placid, Recondite's full-length return to Acid Test, he indulges his more outré tendencies -- and a welcome return it is. Digipak double CD includes the first-ever CD edition of On Acid. Placid features an appearance from Tale of Us; On Acid features remixes by Tin Man and Scuba.

Livio & Roby have been central to the acclaimed group of producers that have emerged from the Eastern European hotbed of electronic music that is Romania. Alongside their school-friend George G, the trio have a new project, Premiesku. The collaboration has already gained accolades from many party heads and acclaimed music professionals. Their first album brings together this collective musical experience, and presents a collection of driving and energetic solid grooves, fused with a plethora of colors and sonic twists. In today's electronic music climate, which is characterized by an emphasis on overly-complex and technologically-advanced productions, Premiesku have a preference for the warmth offered by the analog age: their sound is one of subtle synths, dulcet tones and beautiful yet twisted melodies effortlessly layered over intricate drums, all made with no more than loving care, and their specifically customized analog hardware. The results are percussive, hypnotic and totally engrossing. With each production on Indirect stretching to over 7 minutes in length, the tracks are given room to breathe, which allows the listener to completely immerse themselves in Premiesku's absorbing sonic soundscape. Beginning with the tinted euphoria of "Ceva care se multiplica," the album meanders through a host of sounds and influences. From the bouncing, twisted melodies of "Technico Stiintific," to gorgeous atmospheric builders such as "Mecanism LRG300" and "Discurs pe fundal," the latter complete with a public announcement vocal -- the trio demonstrate both their considerable production experience as qualified audio engineers, as well as their ability to write wonderfully varied music. In contrast to "Tehnico-Stiintific" and "Geneza," which showcase Premiesku's more experimental nature with their warped techno grooves, there are also some particularly delicate moments such as the serene "In Mod Indirect." The album ends in particularly strong fashion with "Vag," complete with incessant kick-drum, swirling, distorted sounds and cascading piano keys. Overall, then, Premiesku have crafted a fascinating experimental electronic album with an Eastern-European twist. Although Indirect is evidently inspired by classic deep house and Detroit techno, it is entirely unique and distinctive and one which is certain to keep drawing the listener back again and again.

Collection of work featuring 3 artists: Akufen, Freeform & The Rip Off Artist. "Inflatabl Labl seems to delight in unlikely combinations. Rather than put out the same tired old compilation idea, the label has hit upon something unique and inspiring. Why not get three top-notch electronic producers to make four tracks each, in a style they're completely unfamiliar with? The first of the series, dub tribunL, featured tracks from AtomTM, Small Rocks and label owner The Rip Off Artist. This time around it's cut-up house legend Akufen, the ever unpredictable Freeform, and...er...The Rip Off Artist. (we did mention he owned the label, right?). And the challenge: blues music. Akufen forgoes his house tendencies for a raw, glitchy shuffle, with the voices of the past rising up like ghosts. An ultra-modern structure built on an ancient graveyard, and the spirits keep leaking through. Freeform harnesses his encyclopedic knowledge of world music to create something that is Deep South, Far East, nowhere and everywhere at the same time. And The Rip Off Artist focuses on the core of The Blues: the guitar and the twelvebar chord progression. And then splinters it into a thousand pieces, with rhythms that lurch and sputter, missing a beat here and there, and counting others twice."
