AD 001EP

Originally released in 2010 on Aurora Borealis. This is the new 12" version on Archaic Devices. Archaic Devices is a new label founded by Bobby Krlic, aka The Haxan Cloak. It will serve as the home for his future releases as The Haxan Cloak alongside reissues of his past work under the moniker. Krlic admits that starting a record label wasn't something that had occurred to him until he finished building his own home studio in LA and he regained the master tapes to his records from various underground labels. All of his archival releases have been remastered, with aspects of their design and presentation tightened up by Krlic to present his music exactly as he initially intended. Working with revered visual artist Christopher Leckie, Krlic has built a stark, unique identity for his newly minted label Archaic Devices that extends to a new line of merchandise, as well as new visual directions for the label's first and forthcoming releases.

RBACID 001EP

Dial 303! The new and hopefully also durable sampler series on Running Back is here. Dedicated to the twang of Roland's silver baseline box with a varied string of artists: DVS1, Marko East & Jordi Chu (whose collaboration sparked the idea of a whole series), Like A Tim via Prins Thomas, Katerina, and I:Cube. The Parisian put it in a nutshell, too: "Although rinsed to death to the point of becoming a parody of itself, acid will last forever." Therefore, his "Folie Noire" is combining the original recipes with hypnotic European influences, while Marko and Jordi present a rough and direct 303-909 live jam, Prins Thomas puts his wickedest smile on Like A Tim's "Wonderline" from 2005 and Katerina sets a lucid dream to sanguine music. Finally, there is a rare and much desired musical outing by the unique DVS1. A direct ode to Chicago's acid and beatdown styles and its Midwest companions, it is a heads-down-lights-down late-night track made for driving up and down "Lower Wacker Drive". Trippy trip artwork by the inimitable Gasius. Trivia: If the piano is the bread of house music, the acid line is its butter!

Originally released in 1982 this pure electro-jam was a surgical trait d'union between the Italo-disco phenomenon and the American boogie. The frantic vocal version is paired with the instrumental on the B-side. Scientific Saturday Night Fever with vocoder and the likes!

Lento, the first release of Fangodischi. A slow track, 115 bpm. An obsessive hammering over a dystopian rhythmic layer that reaches its climax exploding in a drum roll, like a cleansing fire. An industrial sound, whiffs of steam, disturbing metallic noise. A recall to the core of Fangodischi and the dual vision the artist has of his homeland: Venice, a "Disneyland" for tourists, and Marghera with its industries and poisons. Two faces of the same medal.

TRD 001EP

"Bombscare is an extraordinarily lush, poignant collaboration between quiet rockers Low and experimental electronic duo Spring Heel Jack. Spring Heel Jack provides the musical collage as a background for the harmonies and solo vocals of Low's Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk. Their production creates an icy cathedral of sound that... when it was released nearly 20 years ago, sounded unlike anything else in either band's discography. 'Bombscare' bleeds mood, space, and texture as sounds ring out and echo into the distance. 'Hand So Small' works like a literate lullaby as musical flourishes appear from thin air, a piano haunts the outskirts of the song. 'So Easy (So Far)' is perhaps the most traditional Low song, but Spring Heel Jack manages to make the band sound like they're singing modern day Brothers Grimm tales. 'Way Behind' is a stunning closer. It's a truly exhilarating song that sounds like it was recorded in heaven, as Parker and Sparhawk again take turns singing angelically over a jazzy electronic stew full of subtle found-sounds. Bombscare hints at the musical turn Spring Heel Jack would take on Masses and presents Low at the absolute peak of their powers. It's too bad the collaborators didn't compile an entire album's worth of material, as these 16 minutes seem magically fleeting. Bombscare couldn't be a more superb collaboration between these innovative artists." --All Music

Powel always finds a way to thread natural elegance and tasteful patience in his productions. "Iblard" is sparse; its aquatic pads draw you into a warm place where discordant melodies swirl across dripping percussion. "The Grand Opening" named after (and also sampling) the Swedish band, adds live instrumentation to the deep house aesthetic with aplomb. "Aburaya" is next in both vocal, and instrumental form -- deeply Detroit-ian by design, the uplifting pads and keys made this life-affirming. On "Johannesburg", a sparse beat slowly transforming into a warm vibe with Rhodes-y keys, violins, and male vocal ad libs.

AWAYLMTD 001EP
|
Away Music starts a new vinyl series entitled Reissued focusing on Move D & Pete Namlook tracks that were previously only available on CD. Opener "Footer" is a darkly absorbing piece with menacing bass rhythms and frosted textures, an interplanetary trip that finds modern kinship with the likes of techno experimentalist Donato Dozzy. The majestic "Der Bergkönig" is less linear and more suspensory, with beautiful synth motifs looping over icy pads building to a celestial crescendo complete with sweeping strings. Closer "Stranger" is an adventurous 16-minute epic that rides on slick deep house drums and phased bass.

SHARED 001EP
|
Sampler 12" of Mumdance's massive "Shared Meanings" mix, with highlights including Mumdance & Logos' seminal "Teachers" alongside zingers from Nkisi, Peder Mannerfelt, Caterina Barbieri, and Space Afrika. Mumdance & Logos pay tribute to a Chicago convention on "Teachers", listing a roll-call of influences, while Nkisi comes fiercely correct with the swinging Congolese techno of "Kinega", and Peder Mannerfelt does his inimitable, mutant rave thing on "Over My Face". "Molecular Illusion" by Caterina Barbieri and the golden ambient deliquescence of Space Afrika's piece speak to the contrasts and breadth of Mumdance's mix and his lushly dark vision of modern dance music.

Touch From A Distance is Nick Höppner's new label, this time 100% his own. For the label debut Höppner enlisted the talents of Desert Sound Colony from London. His outstanding skills at sound design, composition and arrangement have now culminated in Fast Life EP. The four tracker presents DSC at his most focused and versatile, constantly shape-shifting between the rich, bass-heavy UK heritage and continental-European traditions of dance floor minimalism.

v1984's work permeates a myriad of sonic territories, referencing classical and contemporary tropes. This debut release was driven by the composer's own emotions and personal studies. Spontaneity is inherent throughout, disrupting common structures. That which is created is by no means produced from nothing but must necessarily have been produced from something existing. Limited white vinyl.

FORMAND 001EP
|
Form And Function present a compilation of four transcendent cuts with a different approach in mind. Kafim starts the exploration with "Kisin". The trance-y bassline that dictates the pace of this track, combined with a variety of distinctive sounds, make it sound almost otherworldly. Qindek offers "Two Birds", pushing the envelope with hard-hitting techno infused with dizzying noise. SIWEI then delivers modular madness -- kick drums decide the tempo on layers of ambient sounds and hi-hats. Thomas Hayes ends with "Non Solo", which is partially slow burner; it advances in a gradual manner, by appending elements, almost one by one.

Intergraded is a new label from Midland that focuses on releasing music by artists working under a new name. The first release sees Body In The Thames, Peach, Jay, and Webstarr. From Midland: "The idea for the label came about after being sent unreleased music and ideas by a number of artists over the last year. As I plan to focus Graded on my own Midland solo work for the foreseeable future, and with ReGraded occupying a different aesthetic plane altogether, the logical step was to start a new label that could help introduce this music to a wider audience."

Etch presents the inaugural release on new label Altered Roads. The label is set to focus purely on Etch productions. Altered Roads Vol. 1 features four tracks ranging from the psychedelic weightless ambient soundscape of "When The Soul Departs", hazy vintage kung-fu film sampling "Lore Of Samurai", the crushingly powerful break laden homage to the defunct BLOC Festival "Flamingo Grove", and ending on futuristic Warp-driven hip-hop "Defunkt Logic". The scope of these four tracks, disregard for the confines of dancefloor function sets the tone for what is to come on this label.

HOD 001EP

Factory Floor was commissioned by London's Science Museum to write a brand new live score for Fritz Lang's 1927 silent cinematic landmark, Metropolis. The 150-minute score was performed in April 2017 and coincided with the 90th anniversary release of Metropolis. This 12" marks the first release on Factory Floor's own imprint, Heart Of Data Records. An inspired six-and-half minute track, "Heart Of Data" is an animated modular synth groove sets in motion the atmospheric textures within the spatial arrangement. "Babel" traverses many scenes in the film and retains a transient meditative pulse in pursuit of space and time.

Optimo Music don't generally do limited edition releases, but when The Golden Filter did these extra mixes of "End Of Times" from their EP of the same name (OM 040EP, 2017) the label decided to press a small run of 12" singles. The original single version is a future synth classic. These new dub versions take it to the dancefloor. They are considerably extended, dubbed-out, and add extra dynamics and ecstatic synth power with hints of the original vocal. There is a slo-mo version at 103 bpm and a faster version at 118bpm. There is also a "Drone-Apella" version too.
