A tale of two Indians recorded in Cologne, Stockholm, and Berlin. Anurag Choudhary and Pawas Gupta are Non Solo. Friends from more than two decades, these gentlemen decided to bring together their knowledge of music at Anurag's apartment in Stockholm back in 2008. Anurag's life journey took him to Stockholm, Sweden, and Pawas's culminated in Berlin, Germany; both cities a cultural and a musical powerhouse in their own right. PSYROM 001EP
|
The Psychedelic Romance experience is birthed, combining future-facing electronic music, art and healing. The venture is a collaboration between former Trouw & De School resident JP Enfant, energy practitioner and artist Cuevawolf, and artist and label manager Maren Monika Brombeiss. The label strand of Psychedelic Romance comes to life via JP Enfant's Somewhere Else EP, a veritable musical Rubik's Cube encompassing techno, ambient, and bass. The five-track work includes a remix of lead track "Muzieklokaal" from Bristol's acclaimed experimental producer LCY, who reworks the playful original into a dynamic pastiche of industrial breaks and techno. Dubbed a "local legend" of the Amsterdam scene by Resident Advisor, JP Enfant has built up a credible reputation with gigs across Europe including Berghain, Melt Festival, and fabric. His nuanced approach to techno has seen releases on Planet X, a.r.t.less, and DGTL Records. The conscious ethos of the project runs through every thread of Psychedelic Romance. Alongside the music being produced at 432hz, a frequency believed to support a calm body and mind, at upcoming Psychedelic Romance events, Cuevawolf will play the crystal singing bowls, which will transition the night from an uplifting sound healing session into an immersive electronic rave experience, led by JP.

FOM 001EP
|
Sold out, no repress planned. Richie Hawtin releases Time Warps EP, his first dancefloor focused EP since Minus Orange in 1999. This is the first release on a new extension of Hawtin's iconic Plus 8 label, From Our Minds. Few can match Richie Hawtin's contribution to techno over the last three decades. A restless pioneer, the Canadian artist's importance as a producer, which includes music made under aliases like Plastikman and F.U.S.E, is matched by his influence as a curator for iconic labels like M_nus, Plus 8, and Probe. Now, through a pair of brand new, long-form club tracks, recorded in lockdown and boasting a combined length of over 30 minutes, "Time Warps" channels the blurred, stretched perception of time that has been so characteristic of life in 2020. With constantly evolving, precision engineered loops delivered at a pulse-raising tempo, patient pacing and a seamless yet unpredictable progression, the title track is a lesson in building the kind of mesmeric dancefloor moments synonymous with the producer's name. The alternative mix "Time Stands Still" takes a radically different approach, with stretches of ominous ambience that manage to slowly dial up rather than suppress the tension, deferring release until the perfect moment. A statement of intent on a new imprint, and a long-awaited return.

MTM 001EP

Mutant Frequencies is the first transmission from Music That Moves, Shinedoe's new label focusing on her own productions. The label is set to make its mark as her other label Intacto has done since 2004. "Mutant Frequencies" sets the agenda with a deep driving bassline intertwined with sparking synths lines and crisp, urgent percussion. "M-Plant" is an acid-tinged, bouncy groover; the bassline writhes and wriggles throughout the track while pulsating kick and fizzing percussion propel the track ever higher. "Triplex" closes things in atmospheric fashion, building out of a hypnotic hook and dark, brooding pads.

"CHAOS" takes its influence from the golden age boom-bap era of hip-hop. Woxow's message has been perfectly delivered by two great rappers, Akil the MC from Jurassic 5 and Blurum13, while on the other side the chorus sang by the legendary Ken Boothe from Jamaica, sounds like an absolutely extraordinary event (as Mr. Boothe doesn't go very often for featuring nowadays), topping the tune with his still outstanding soulful voice with a touch that recall the "work songs" feeling. New Zealand master of intergalactic funk, K+Lab provides a remix on the B side.

SATOTEM 001EP

Stroboscopic Artefacts presents the Totem series -- a chain of transparent 10" vinyl -- with Lucy, aka Luca Mortellaro, kicking things off. "Tarkomania", builds dark hued mood and texture over one of the spilling monologues of Russian cult classic film director Tarkovsky's in Stalker (1979). "Tarkomania Dub" takes the listener one circle deeper into the groove-filled anxiety, flickering between a set of industrial sounds, the guttural voice of Takovsky's writer, and warm, moody synth. "Tarkomania Acapella" is a summation of these elements with an emphasis on the "Stalker" monologue.

BIM 001EP

New Parisian imprint Abîme launch their catalogue with Lettre d'Amort, an EP by French producer Chams. A deeply personal collection of songs born out of a teenage, transcendental experience. Growing up surrounded by the Alps, he always felt like those high mountains looming over him. On the one hand, Chams employs bright and minimal sonics and upbeat melodies that have something of a childhood naivety to them. On the other hand, these sounds compete with darker impulses which refuse to give over to optimism. Nowhere is this more evident than on "Ultraviolence", where agonized screams compete with a beautiful synth.

ARGOTADM 001EP
|
Argot celebrates their fifth year with a series of compilations entitled American Dance Music. Much of American Dance Music Vol. 1 is aimed squarely at the dancefloor, whether it's Todd Osborn's playful romp, "80s Are Here (Part 2)", or Noncompliant's acid-tweaked ode to girls, "Femslash". Throwing Shapes comes bursting in with the raving stomp of "Heatstroke". Savile offers the growling stepper, "Reality Is A Sound (Share Power Mix)", while Alex Falk's "Vines" provides an effervescent vocal moment. Olin and Maxine & Cleo double down on hypnotic motifs and the cinematic scale of Hippie Priest's "Dream Machine" twiddles heartstrings.

FIGUREJAM 001EP
|
The first release of Figure's new sublabel series Figure Jams is a split EP by Fabrizio Lapiana and Amotik. The A side is taken up by a pair of Lapiana's irresistibly dense grooves that unmistakably tread in the footsteps of his homeland's highly emotional techno, unafraid of big melodies and injecting just the right amount of twisted acid. This sense of grandeur and space is also reflected in the work of fast-rising producer Amotik. Painting with his very own colors as an equally epic scenery, its bleak and post-apocalyptic landscape is dominated by broken industrial beats and hypnotically swirling synths.

Italian based trio Agents Of Time launch their new electronic-music record label Obscura. "Era" is the first track of a new era for Agents Of Time: strong analog sound, led by the classic AOT hypnotic sequencing. "Dungeon" is a further step in a dark and obscure world: strong bassline, powerful drums, and magnetic synths mark the uniqueness of this track. "Rebellion" is where the Agents have pushed their own limits, for the most aggressive track of this release: a perfect combination between techno and psychedelic atmosphere. "Lower World" looks forward: a jazzy and acid composition.

TOTEM 001EP

Camila Fuchs are the London based experimental electronic duo of Camila de Laborde and Daniel Hermann-Collini. Taking inspiration from Oskar Schlemmer's Bauhaus style, they utilize its rejection of gender stereotypes. Collini brings expertise from the experimental techno and krautrock scene in his native Germany - also pulling from the likes of Aphex Twin, Oneohtrix Point Never, The Knife and Kraftwerk. The tender delivery of Camila de Laborde's introverted and esoteric lyricism takes cues from Lhasa de Sela and other South American songwriters. Singing From Fixed Rung is an emotional and thought-provoking response to world events.

Cloud Corridors is the first release of Jan Philipp Longerich's alias Processed.Sunshine and also the debut on his imprint Fertile Imagination Music. Inspired by different formations of clouds and their movements, the record takes the listener from huge cloud castles in "Wolkenburg" through "Cloud Corridors" down into the dark vibe of "The Fog". Minimalistic drum machine patterns, deep pads, hypnotic sequences and morphing basslines give the record its warm, lively and feral character. The LP was completely created out of live sessions with analog equipment and each track was recorded in one take.
