XM 004EP
|
"New limited 12" from XCPT posse coming under label headz new alias: Sativa Club. Three tracks exploring a wide spectrum of jungle inspired club music. 'Phonato Riddim' spreads instantly a bulging bag of breaks merged harmonically with heavyweight drum patterns, room quaking subs, and synapse bending vocal samples emerging forcefully from hazy soundscapes. 'Sound of Silence' opens the flip side in a beatless smoky environment where blurry hypnotic frequencies quickly get squashed in a rolling drum break. Finally, the 176 bpm full-throttle payoff of 'Amen Drake': slabs of processed amens, paradroid percussions, gently layered synth lines and fucked up wet-dream vocals. Hypnotic dubwise galore on both sides."

SATOTEM 004EP
|
Caustic, dense, and centered around complex but exquisitely executed percussive motifs and driven, rising sequences -- many would argue an alliance between Shifted's heady, monochrome recordings and Lucy's beloved Stroboscopic Artefacts label is long overdue. "The Light Touch" is perhaps one of Shifted's more idiosyncratic pieces, rich with groove. "Seel" showcases the artist's talent for building tension with minimal elements. "Mixen" riffs on its predecessor's approach but strips back the percussive elements further and ups the ante with searing drone signals rising up above the lead sequence driving the track.

FIGUREJAM 004EP
|
Figure Jams enters the next round, setting up a pairing between two hardware-loving, no-frills techno-purists. Both artists build on vibrant, machine-made roughness, yet each leaving their uniquely flavored footprint. Kicking things off is Eindhoven's Albert Van Abbe, whose wide-open soundscapes and searching synths evoke an emotional impact that goes far beyond mere tools. Low-key producer SP-X appears on the flipside, ready to get lost deep within layers of hypnotic loops. Searing percussion, rumbling bass, and dubby synths engage in complex conversation, subtly swelling and swaying but always keeping the groove ever so tight.

EM 004EP
|
With Nekromant, label heads Avidus are back on Empore Music, to present their darker side. The original consists of powerful arpeggiators rolling on a triplet-beat with a trancy vibe. Jens-Uwe Beyer delivers a dreamy remix with nice organic percussive elements. Berlin based Sebastian Voigt, who has been making waves with his release on Outcast Oddity (2016), completes the remixes with a straightened interpretation of the original back to a four-to-the-floor beat, even adding even more drive and power if compared to the original. The EP comes full circle with a beatless "Synthapella" from the original.

GQOM 004EP
|
The first solo artist release for the Gqom Oh! label. Dominowe is a 19 year old producer from the Newlands east township of Durban, South Africa. Siyathakatha snapshots important themes in Dominowe's personal journey, showcasing his original style in the context of the Durban electronic music scene, especially beside gqom and sghubu. "Siyathakatha" translates to "black magic", or, "we witching", which is right at the heart of this release: listening to these sounds invite you into the universe of an unseen world. It is about gqom working its magic on the dancefloor. "Bhenga Nezinja" features Chaotic Boyz.

FILM 004EP
|
The Berlin based imprint deliver a remix package of Grandbrothers's Dilation (FILM 001CD/LP, 2015). Erol Sarp and Lukas Vogel craft dense, rousing music with nods to IDM, ambient and techno, from the sounds of the grand piano and a set of 20 self-built hammers hitting the piano on different parts. NYC native FaltyDL takes on "Newtons Cradle", turning in a psychedelic slice of half time proto-footwork while both Phillip Otterbach (as Grand Optimist) and Djrum offer their own tripping, ambient reinterpretations. Portable Sunsets reimagines "Neon" as fuzzy beach house jam, with driven drum machine hits and a soothing Vox line.

RAAM 004EP
|
Raam is back with a killer EP, moving deeper into his gritty and heavy soundscapes with influences from both Detroit and Chicago. "Alvar" is a straight-up chord-driven banger, with classic 909 drum patterns. "Unfold" is a warm, spaced-out Chicago track, reminiscent of Boo Williams. "Brink" has that magic disco flair; woofing basses and sparkling pads create a shimmering atmosphere. This track is perfect to play whenever, wherever.

Strictly limited. Vinyl only. We Have Friends' Music presents a new release from Jesse Bru with outstanding remix support from both Exercise One and Hreno. On the title-track, the vocal loop infects the listener instantly and weaves its way playfully throughout, ultimately crescendoing with deep, flowing pads that will fill the dancefloor with smiles aplenty. Exercise One create a remix destined for the big room blowout. Not to be outdone, Hreno adds subtle nuances and flair that the Canadian expat is well-known for. "Apocalypse Brow" is the secret weapon that just begs to be played at that special moment on a big system.

Tom Trago presents a 12" album sampler of his forthcoming The Light Fantastic. Featuring the dancefloor stomper "Two Together" which was co-produced by Steffi, "True Friends" featuring Breach on the vocals, and the non-album track "Avenido." Trago was keen to recapture the essence of his early work, and particularly the melodic warmth, kaleidoscopic chords and robust grooves that characterized his 2009 debut album, Voyage Direct. These tracks ooze a gleeful sense of fun, while retaining depth and definition.

Featuring a remix by Tin Man (!!).Good Ratio Music presents a release from Little Big Orchestra containing a bunch of mysterious sounds clashing with deep, dark sequences. The music unlocks a very intimate side of the artist, with songs made from broken beats, pitched voices and profound themes, sending the listener off into another universe. The remixer here is the genius Tin Man who transformed the track "Toys & Diamonds" into a more solid, slow techno rhythmic version.

GEM 004EP

One of techno's fastest rising stars brings his strongest EP to date with two huge tracks. "Haasten" (trans. "hurrying") has been destroying crowds during Egbert's live sets around the globe for the past few months. A dark, commanding bass line that skips over the beat is accompanied by a retro-sounding orchestral jab. "Yourself" is paving the way for the future of percussion-based techno with punishing drums, deep basses, narrow mids and rattling hats that kick ass.
