FIGUREJAM 007EP
|
The newest joint effort on Figure Jams unites two stalwarts in their own right, both of whom have honed their specific sound over decades. Having the A-Side to himself, Radio Slave goes for the murky and twisted end of the spectrum, forging some seriously hypnotic grooves. Where skeletal claps and soaring synths make an exhilarating uphill rush, its psychedelic sibling's patterns soon lead into a eyes-down experience, predestined to lose oneself completely to. Deetron instead builds on a dry drum framework, then cleverly fills in the space with robotic rhythms and lively synthwork for what's simply a fun tune to follow. He finishes things off more seriously though, sliding in these heavily submerged chords and going for a vibrantly soaring beatdown track.

DM 007EP

Dark Matters label head Amirali returns with the expertly crafted Odyssey EP, employing his vital understanding of space and texture to construct a highly emotive release featuring a remix from Fort Romeau. "Odyssey" is a striking example of Amirali's penchant for songwriting, as well as a testament to his sonic identity, merging memorable harmonies with heartfelt vocals. "Hidden Past" veers more towards the dancefloor, brandishing vast sonic explorations and levitating pads amongst detailed drum patterns. For the "Hidden Past" remix, Fort Romeau mutates the delicacy of the original into a spaced-out dose of peak time house.

GQOM 007EP
|
Five-track EP representing the past, the present and the future of gqom -- the thunderous club sound from Durban, South Africa. The EP's A Side is dedicated to two of the genre's most prominent producers. DJ Lag is known as the "King of Gqom". Griffit Vigo, a real innovator in the gqom genre, has attained a legendary status amongst his peers. "Ree's Vibe" was the peak moment of DJ Lag's sets all over the world. Sbucardo is one of the most respected DJs around the townships of Durban. Featuring Abnormal on "IPhoyisa", whose lyrics in Zulu translate to "We at the club, Mr police man don't disturb us", the track represents gqom culture in Durban very well. Naked Boyz' "Story Teller" is characteristic of the Sgubhu style, a blend of gqom with more conventional house sounds, the new genre taking over Durban and finding its way onto mainstream radio. Scene kingpins Rude Boyz round off the release's line-up of gqom originators with "Umshunto". Includes download code which features bonus tracks from Griffit Vigo, DJ Lag, Sbucardo da DJ, and Naked Boyz.

WSDM 007EP
|
Loft debuted on Astral Plane Recordings in 2016 with the Turbulent Dynamics, which featured five stylistically varied slices of experimental, sui generis club music. The EP's center point, "Heffalump", stood out in particular. Three Settlements Four Ways picks up where "Heffalump" left off. Dynamically and structurally, the EP operates miles outside of traditional club territory, eschewing techno's constant, linear structure in favor of unpredictable narratives that rise and falter in a series of dramatic crescendos. Baltimore rhythms and gunshot breaks build to violent peaks before tumbling into thin air, giving way to yearning melodies, romantic synths and pitch bent choirs.

POEM 007EP
|
Haz Mat, hailing from Detroit, may not be a household name yet, but just wait. His vinyl debut is People Of Earth's seventh release. A three track EP that is as rounded as it gets. Deep, techy, soulful, and a bit of disco for kicks. "My Zania" has lush chords that morph into a tech masterpiece. "Bridge To The Universe" is a straight, deep, and techy jam. Lastly, "Groove Of Life" is just that. Instrumentals and disco riffs, daytime vibes and smiles.

FILM 007EP
|
Denial.of.Service returns to FILM for an extended EP of wrought iron electronics, channeling the spirit of classic electro, industrial, and noise. If 2015's Sensou EP (FILM 003EP) communicated a more brooding, emotive side to Denial.of.Service -- then Contour & Shape works in stark contrast. The palette remains relatively unchanged, with the 808 providing the back-bone for most of the compositions -- but this time around the production aesthetic is harsh and abrasive and there's a powerful, burning immediacy to the work. Contour & Shape is a thunderous, high-energy salvo from a true creative with a rich electronic music heritage.

GRM 007EP

Good Ratio Music strikes gold with the first EP from Carlo on the imprint. Forget Me Not is a record that plays directly into one of the artist's strengths: melting a coherent whole from ephemeral parts. Carlo keeps it rather fiercely on the house grooves, creating a far out sound with his fluent pulse and motif-based melodic improvisations. On the flip side, Kresy delivers a solid remix of the title track.

Beginning with a shared love of old school Algerian Raï music and audio deconstruction, we sampled several Raï classics from cassettes and Youtube rips, resulting in three songs and a dub. Heavy weight system pressure, poly-riddim and crunchy arid melodics dubbed up inna Boomarm style. Released in a limited run of 300 10" vinyls in hand stamped and printed sleeves."

Talented Swedish producer and DJ Tiger Stripes is one of the few modern house producers who can program drums with the best of them, while taking it up a notch by lacing his tracks with harmonious melodies. "Me & I" is about as classy as it gets, with rolling drums, jittering percussion, a tasteful vocal and a silky smooth chord melody skillfully congealed. This is one tune that is sure to sneak into many record bags.

"Luka & Lazo, the mad house scientists from the far east! Bloody hell we've been chasing them for a long time. We really wanted to release music from those guys and here it is. 'Incoming' is again a deep strike at the dance floor while always keeping a huge focus on groove. Those guys knows the tiniest details of how to make a human being go wild and crazy! A1: 'Exposure' is a fucked up reduced shaking minimal house from outer space track! It grooves for real and will get even the shyest of you all on the floor, forgetting about whatever might take place in your brain."

STORM 007EP

"Storming Productions have shown no mercy and beat up on some of UK's biggest and heaviest sound systems with our infectious bass heavy rolling sound. STORM 007 brings you Drum and Bass's Jump Up don 'Twisted Individual' under his alias 'Bogey Man' versus Leicester's very own bad bwoy, Dub Child Smelly: For those that know this tune it's an absolute anthem! Its been battered on Dub plate by EZ, Slimzee, Ras Kwame, Search & Destroy, Hatcha, Rossi B and Luca, Plasticman, Roll Deep and right across the board from UKG, Dub step to breaks! Make your own mind up; it's simply -- Pure Dirt! Dub Child's 'Mount Zion' takes you into deep bass heavy, lighter flicking vibes. Ragga samples and sick drum edits give this track a Jungle passport to 2006. It's deep, dark and def for the Bass bins, not a tune to be missed."

OPSM 007EP

"Sweet Swede! 007 Lars Wickinger fires at the dancefloor in the name of Her Majesty. Some of you might relate him to the C.I.T. project which has already launched successful releases on Spoiler Records and Monika Kruses imprint Electric Avenue. As an old guitarrero Lars knows exactly how to rock: he played his way through various grunge and hard rock bands before, via new wave and some synthie-pop he approached the devices responsible for his current sound. 'Cobra Liebe' -- naturally stirred AND shaken -- comes, as a matter of fact, pretty close to said reptile's bite. So it doesn't take long until this sound cocktail becomes real poisonous. To all anxious animal-rights activists: don't be fooled by 'Delfine im Tank!' No single sea mammal did get nicked into tiny bins. The track was rather conducted as a background tune for US-Army trailers: lurid shots show a flipper platoon driving tanks after bitching about having to stick ammunition belts on adversarial warships all day long. 'Out of Schweiß' is a real afterhour-burner -- and rather true to its name. After all, what's sweating during an afterhour are no frantically wincing bodies but rather the synapses. And that's exactly what they're gonna do once more when hearing this track accompanying accurate optics."
