Dave Harrington's first solo release is a two-track, multi-movement EP called Before This There Was One Heart But a Thousand Thoughts. Casting synapses between his work as a multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer, Harrington leads a sonic odyssey through this latticed world rich in wild experimentation and sublime, combustible beauty. Journeys of rapture turn into journeys of fear and then to bright light. An upright bass creaks up and down woody scales for a moment of formless, astral groove, then sizzles off to a field of shimmering tambura-like drones and reversed guitar chords. Clusters of percussive metal writhe and clang. Deep, growling static contracts and contracts to a point, pumping out new sounds like solar flares. The pings of a high-keyed synth rush by like stars. For Harrington, what begins as one ends in many places -- every sound is infinite.

This is the debut full-length release by The Performers: Dave Gahisho (sounds, voice, palm trees) and James "Hawaii" Fantome (visions, bass, fireworks) from Marseille. Originally formed in the early 2000s to compose soundtracks and write screenplays, after an imaginary travel between Maui and Brooklyn, they started to record songs for a new project entitled A Homemade Stereo Recording. The album was produced between 2003 and 2007 with the concept of a "slow-motion journey around the world" using an old 4-track tape recorder and few instruments (broken analog keyboards, guitars and Theremin). With a little help from a computer and friends, all the sound material was gradually put together to complete this beautiful and strange soundtrack. The 10 tracks on this album use diverse elements such as rock, country, ethnic music, lounge, electronica, and so on, but these elements flow smoothly into one another, arousing beautiful landscapes, as if watching a perfect film. The album can be seen as the soundtrack to a movie that has yet to be written. The artwork was designed by the artists themselves, visually capturing the main sounds used on this album -- palm trees and fireworks.

"This year, C/O Pop 2008 is celebrating its fifth jubilee! And this is the reason the in-house label C/O pop is going to release the traditional C/O pop compilation with the finest selection of artists attending the festival. And once more it proves that you do not need the usual headliners in order to successfully rock a really good festival. What you need is a knack for the booking, considerable style and taste, a bit of an uncompromising attitude and a twist of radicalness -- the proved and tested recipe for the C/O pop festival, the yearly urban event for pop culture from and around Cologne. This year's C/O pop festival is going to take full circle again: from DJ Koze's reminiscence to Gunther Gabriel to the hottest international acts such as Why?, Crystal Castles and Steed Lord; from local top acts such as Supermayer (Kompakt's Superpitcher and Michael Mayer), Schlammpeitziger (Sonig) and Markus Worgull (Groove Attack Recordstore/Innervisions) to one of the classics among the German pop and electronica icons: Daf. And in between, fantastic newcomers such as Coma (Cologne), 1.000 Robota (Hamburg) and Dillon (Berlin) who are going to take (and seduce) the audience with Beck and Abwärts deep down inside the cave of quotes. And when everybody's darling José González, singer/songwriter from Sweden, sounds in the remix version made by Norwegian producer Todd Terje, then, at the latest, you will understand what the festival C/O pop is about: to present the best of any music styles and worlds and to take (and kidnap) the audience on new paths in music. We would say: Don't miss C/O Pop 2008!"
