Artist: CABARET VOLTAIRE
Title: Radiation
Label: DYNAMIC (ITALY)
Format: CD
Price: $19.00
Catalog #: DYNA 017CD
"This 13 track collection is the cream of Cabaret Voltaire's many BBC appearances. As with most BBC sessions, the album is an excellently produced collection that displays the band at the peak of their creativity, capturing the energy of a live performance with the quality of a studio recording. Includes 'Sensoria,' as well as three tracks that never appeared elsewhere in the Cabaret Voltaire discography." Features sessions from 1984-86 (although the label conveniently does not list this info -- is it illegal in Italy to list factual details on your CD products?). This CD has been out before on other labels with additional tracks, nice work Dynamic! [this CD has 11 tracks, not 13 as mentioned above -- which is how many tracks previous editions had. Maybe counting all the way up to 13 is illegal in Italy as well.]

Title: Mix-Up
Label: MUTE USA
Format: CD
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: MUTE 9172CD
2002 edition of 1st Cabaret Voltaire album, originally released by Rough Trade in 1979. Cabaret Voltaire were Chris Watson, Stephen Mallinder & Richard H. Kirk. Classic proto-industrial/rock. "Impressively harnesses noise, primitive rhythm box percolations, tape loops, garbled vocals, and blasts of Farfisa. 'Kirlian Photograph' is an ugly slab of dub with frizzling snaps of white-heat buzz, clunky percussion, and a plodding bass line forming its skanking, roiling rhythm. Both the bass and incidental vocals are relegated to the back of the mix as the piercing detritus takes center stage. A cover of the Seeds' 'No Escape' evidences Cabaret Voltaire's paradox as a seemingly anti-rockist band who -- at their heart (for the first several years, at least) -- was a garage band." -- AMG.

Title: Red Mecca
Label: MUTE USA
Format: CD
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: MUTE 9174CD
2002 edition of the 6th CV album, originally released in 1980. "It's a taught, dense, horrific slab lacking a lull. Dashes of Richard H. Kirk's synthesizer are welded to Chris Watson's tape effects for singed lashes of white noise, best heard on the lurching 'Sly Doubt' and the jolting 'Spread the Virus.' Throughout, Mallinder's sinister jibber jabbering punctuates the high-pitched menace. The record contains all the characteristics that have made the Sheffield group such an influential entity when it comes to electronic music." -- AMG.

Title: Best Of '78/'82 (The Original Sound of Sheffield)
Label: MUTE USA
Format: CD
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: MUTE 9190CD
"Cabaret Voltaire (along with Throbbing Gristle, Suicide, Chrome, and the like) were responsible for pioneering the acceptability and use of many sounds that were instrumental in defining a strand of popular music which became known as experimental or 'industrial'. Initially a three piece, Cabaret Voltaire began by playing around with recorded sounds manipulated by basic reel-to-reel recorders in Sheffield in 1973. Filtering influences as diverse as Stockhausen, Can, early Roxy Music, Velvet Underground and James Brown through various tape and electronic devices, their great blasts of noise were instrumental in freeing popular music from its narrow, restrictive definitions."

Title: Johnny YesNo Redux
Label: MUTE USA
Format: 2DVD/2CD
Price: $24.00
