California doesn't look like the natural place for a band sounding the way these guys did, but they were certainly there. During the mid-to-late '60s, the Powder sound was much more British than West Coast-inspired, and they built their legend on being one of the most exciting, mod, pre-power-pop combos ever. Responsible for anthems such as "I Try" or "Turn Another Page," among many other killer tracks, their music has pleased all mods and pure pop fans around for decades. Despite avid endorsement by Sonny & Cher, Powder never officially released an album. U.S. label Distortions put out a compilation of their tracks many, many years ago, and Guerssen Records makes these recordings, mostly 1968 demos, available again for the new Powder generation. Totally ahead of its time, totally catchy. 500 copies only.
