Not the "Soul Makossa" -- as in the disco pioneering 1972 single by Cameroon-born, Paris-based saxophonist Manu Dibango -- but a worthy cash-in, with a set of studio musicians headed by guitarist David T. Walker opening with their take on the original and continuing with an album of Afro-funk and groove-driven instrumentals, including "House Of Rising Funk," "Hot Doggin'," "Let Me Do My Thing," and "Slow Motion."
