"Louisiana-born, Brooklyn-based musician Julianna Barwick has self-released Florine, the follow up to her 2007 release Sanguine. On Florine, Barwick builds upon the sparse instrumentation and loop-based vocal arrangements of her debut, working with more layers and textures. The effect of her melodic vocal overdubs and vocal percussion has been described as fascinating and dizzying, as sounds become indecipherable as the human voice. In early 2009 Barwick was selected as a 'Destined' artist by Dusted, and in the spring Florine was chosen by eMusic for it's Selects series. Pitchfork has described her work as 'beautiful and utterly transporting stuff, warm sunlight rendered into sound' and featured the track 'Bode' in best new music. Barwick has spent the last couple of years playing shows at various locales, mostly close to home in NYC, playing with acts including Dirty Projectors, Frog Eyes, Tim Hecker, Miho Hatori, etc."
