Germany's
Sebastian Riedl
aka
Basteroid
presents his first full-length CD on Areal Records. He started his music career in 2000 when he founded the label Areal Records together with his two friends
Michael Schwanen
(
Metope
) and
Matthias Klein
(
Konfekt
,
Welt Zwei
) -- a good basis for all his future releases. Apart from his work released on Sender Records and a number of remixes, he also performs live all around the world, spreading his unmistakable sounds among the people. On
Upsets Ducks
, he freely plays all the different music styles that he is influenced by. The result is a happy mix of trance, funk, rock, gongs and bangs. Half of this record was created in Schaerding, Upper Austria, where the whole duck population regularly got upset (that's where the title comes from) by one track in particular, but also by the rest of this record.

AREAL 017EP
"Year by year and always at that day the people from the village came together to celebrate a big party. And like every year after lots of dance, love and drinks they heard a thunder coming -- slowly but unstoppable. Usually they were totally scared and flew to the woods from that upcoming disaster. But not this time. No, now its time to keep on dancing. The thunder arrived and became a huge noise that started to party with people till the early morning and than it faded away forever. The people, now free from fear, began to build huge and loud instruments and until nowadays they praise the rhythm of the thunder...."

"In the last episode... When Basteroid left his starglider to explore the dark planet, he didn't expect what was waiting for him behind the huge rocks in the east. He only recognized this equally disturbing and beautiful sound sneaking into his ears. 'what!!??!*' -- too late. As the sound became more and more intensive rapidly something took control of Basteroid's feet and made him dance like crazy. But anyway, he managed to pull his blast o beam ultramax aiming the direction he thought the aggressors would be. Z w o o o o o o o o s c h ! ! ! Simultaneous two huge plasmaphotonic bullets flashed through the night, clashed together and detonated in a plasmaphotonic reaction like he (same with the attackers ) has never seen before. When after three minutes the dust thinned out he discerned who it was..."

"Spared from the misdirected beauty of the winds of the stars and with new courage he glances again at his target. His hands work experienced on the instruments while his thoughts are long zoned out. He will be arrived very soon, very soon this shit will spook only as a long ago bad dream in his mind. Slowly the power-aggregates near the required operating temperature. With each bar the luminous dial climbs up and with each decibel the howling of the photo plasma-motors boosts, his euphoria raises. Finally at home, the base. What? The engines too loud, the display at 125%, pink smoke out of all the chinks! Stop the sequence! Deboard immediately! Zwooooosh!!!!!!!!"

gives you the minimal remedy for your hungry belly. First we put the schnitzel in the flour from both sides, then we dip it deep into the eggs and finally into the bread crumbs. We place it in a hot pan and pay attention to the fine white noise and that there is no cracking from a pan that is too hot. Flip them, ready - the coat of bread crumbs should have big bubbles that come off a little bit - it is recommended to squeeze at least half a lemon on every piece! Enjoy.

AREAL 037EP
When the storm started and the sky turned pink, the little boy was hiding under a palm tree with his mp3 player ready for recording. "All this noise," he said to himself, "I must record this." And it worked! For seven minutes, he managed to record the constantly rising buzz that turned up together with the thunderstorm and of course, disappeared again. And when the sky cleared almost instantaneously, a bizarre yellow figure turned up, floating in mid-air above the ground. Unfortunately, the recording capacity was exhausted. What a pity, because the weird little man with his sparkling red eyes and dressed up in a superman costume started talking in a resounding vocoder effect: "Keep this message from the gigaverse. It shall help you when the time is ripe, best would be around 3 o'clock in the morning!"

Finally they got out of the car, miles out of town where he should have his last cigarette. Rob knew far too well why he was here now. Assumably, no one could have missed the target person at the disco. It was all due to unfavorable circumstances or at least bad timing. The lights at the disco, the strobe that went on the very moment when he was about to beat. Those many hands that suddenly went up in the air, the rapidly drifting fog. Really bad timing. And now he finds himself smoking his last cigarette, next to this metal head in a black suit buzzing impatiently. "Daa, daa, dii, da, daaa, dadidadadadida."

I found myself surrounded by at least two million ducks forming a circle around me. And they did not look very friendly at all. Suddenly, their leader came forward. "Quaaaaaak Quaaak!!!!!" I could have closed the studio window. They are getting ready to attack me. I get the shopping trolley token out of my pocket that
Jake Fairley
gave to me. He said it would protect me if I get into trouble. A flash of lighting. Feathers everywhere. Smoke.

SENDER 048EP
"Travel broadens the mind, they say. Sender buddy and Areal front man Basteroid got waylaid by a Russian taxi driver's mysterious understanding of vodka, and let the Kremlin inspire him to write a techno symphony, whose raw power shakes the foundations of sound as we know it. The majestic surges of techno reveal previously-explored depths of Basteroid that just blow our hearts and minds away. On the B-side 'Schicking data per post' bell chimes and the melancholy patter of 'Dawaj Dawaj' are melted down and worked round into Sender's trademark churlish whirls of Basteroid funk sounds. Smooth and cool on the palate like a sip of vodka from a water bottle."
