Fabric 22
Label:
FABRIC (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$17.00
Catalog #:
FABRIC 043CD
"In the mid '90s, a group of Swedish producers burst onto the techno scene. They forged crunching rhythms and firing 'DJ tools,' drawing influence from industrial bands as much as Detroit's golden era. At the movement's forefront was a producer set to become synonymous with his style, and one of the most in-demand DJs of the time -- Adam Beyer. Throughout the past decade since he emerged, Adam founded four record labels -- Drum Code, Code Red, Truesoul and Mad Eye -- and remixed Underworld, Luke Slater and Carl Cox among others.
Fabric 22
shows an intriguing artist, always keen to progress his music and avoid stagnation, in fine form. Adam's newest project on Fabric Records blends the best in Swedish techno talent -- Joel Mull, Cari Lekebusch and Adam himself -- with internationally-acclaimed artists like Steve Rachmad, Reinhard Voigt and Josh Wink. The opening track -- Wighnomy Brothers' remix of Slam and Tyrone Palmer -- captures the spirit of the mix perfectly: established names meet the new and lesser known. Elsewhere, highlights include Ghostly International's Osborne getting groovy, Tim Track's warped 'Panic Voice,' and the album's centerpiece, Adam's own 'Snuff & Noise.' Using subtle effects, quick cuts and long blends, Adam brings us a stunning selection of the very best in European techno."

(exclusive) and more into an hypnotic late-night tale. From the driving percussive force of his Drumcode label to the more open electronic miasma on his current Truesoul and Mad Eye imprints, Beyer remains one of the biggest and most influential producer/DJs on the planet. Ever keen to continually evolve and develop, his three studio albums aptly show the Swede's studio development from raw material to polished gem. Making his name originally with heavily percussive peak-time techno that his labels Drumcode and Code Red had helped to define, Beyer's production style and DJing has evolved somewhat over the last five years whereby the tempo has come down and melody and a stripped-down minimalism have come to the fore. With releases on the likes of Plus 8 and his own Mad Eye series spearheading his production approach, you are just as likely to find Beyer DJing alongside the likes of
Richie Hawtin
and
Sven Väth
as
Jeff Mills
or
Laurent Garnier
. This Fuse mix shows that Adam Beyer remains on top of his game, from the opening delicate nuances of Patrik Skoog's "Jack Is Back" to his own re-working of Mathew Jonson's classic swirling refrain of "Marionette" (exclusive to this compilation). Other artists include

A Walking Contradiction
Label:
PLUS 8 (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$7.00
Catalog #:
PLUS 8087
"Eyes and ears forward, Sweden's Adam Beyer joins the Plus 8 ranks with a brash yet fluid techno protest. More progressive than predictable,
A Walking Contradiction
reflects Beyer's open-minded reaction to new sounds and further experiments for the dance floor. A fervently touring DJ, Beyer's brand of techno surpasses the Swedish sound that he's become renown for, playing a mish mash of sounds from all over the globe. The statement behind
A Walking Contradiction
's put to terms by Beyer as his 'schizophrenic relation with the music right now' taking issue with narrow and generalized trends in harder techno. Well aware of the risks and freedom involved with change, he notes how closing his sound off to one place in music would be a waste.
'I find the biggest progression in the scene today is more stripped down electronic stuff. This record is my contribution to it.'
A Walking Contradiction
free flows bandy treatments of stuttering effects into a forward blast of pulsing techno. The title aims to challenge the style and sound of Adam Beyer, a producer and DJ embracing new directions both on record and behind the decks."
