Title: Petrophonics
Label: CUNEIFORM
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: RUNE 137CD
"Birdsongs Of The Mesozoic began in 1980 as a side project by half of Boston's now legendary Mission Of Burma: Roger Miller and Martin Swope. Miller and Swope joined forces with Rick Scott and Erik Lindgren. In 1983, they released their first project. In 1987, Roger Miller was replaced by saxophonist Ken Field. In 1992 guitarist Michael Bierylo replaced Martin Swope. Petrophonics, the band's tenth release, is the band's first in five years. Birdsongs' instrumentation is as striking as their music: two keyboards, guitar and saxophone blend with electronic/computer percussion."

Title: The Iridium Controversy
Label: CUNEIFORM
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: RUNE 179CD
"Dubbed 'the world's hardest rocking chamber quartet' by the New York Times, Boston's Birdsongs of the Mesozoic creates innovative instrumental music that fuses rock, classical, minimalism, punk, garage/pop, and jazz. Two keyboardists (one on grand piano and one on synthesizer), guitar, saxophone and electronic/computer percussion produce a unique sound that fuses the youthful energy and anarchism of rock with the structure (and process) of classical music. The result is simultaneously abstract and accessible, music without vocals with broad popular appeal. The Iridium Controversy is a sophisticated work, a soundtrack to a primordial epic that harkens to the future as well as the past. The cover art for The Iridium Controversy is by British artist and designer Roger Dean."

Title: Dawn Of The Cycads
Label: CUNEIFORM
Format: 2CD
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: RUNE 274/75CD
"Founded in 1980 by Roger Miller and Martin Swope, half of Mission of Burma, Boston's legendary and influential art-punk band, plus two related musicians, Birdsongs coexisted with Burma for several years until Burma broke up in 1983 and Birdsongs became a full-time performing and recording project. Birdsongs, with their unique lineup of three keyboardists (including electronic percussion) and guitar, occupied the musicians full-time until Roger left the band under very friendly terms in 1987 to devote his time to a solo career (and nearly two decades later to eventually resuscitate Mission of Burma). Dawn of the Cycads reissues on CD all of their recordings for Boston's Ace of Hearts label, which consisted of two EPs: Birdsongs of the Mesozoic (1983) and Beat of the Mesozoic (1986) and a full album, Magnetic Flip (1985) in newly remastered sound. There is over 40 minutes of previously unreleased bonus material included, including late-period live recordings featuring material that the band never had a chance to officially record. The set features a 20-page booklet that includes essays by the musicians and many photos. Also included on the second disc are graphic files of various photos and documents which are viewable on any computer."
