"The Black Angels were formed in 2004 in the mescaline-fueled outskirts of Austin, Texas. Guitarist/bassist Nate Ryan was raised on a cult compound; guitarist/bassist/vocalist Christian Bland is the son of a Texas preacher man; drone machine player Jennifer Raines was raised in a funeral home, the daughter of morticians. Lead vocalist Alex Maas and drummer Stephanie Bailey believe that the ghost of a little girl in a red dress haunts their communal home. Kyle Hunt was a studio apprentice picked up during the recording of Passover. The debut full-length features 'Bloodhounds on my Trail,' with Maas' silky swagger and gritty cosmic twang guitars; 'Black Grease' is a bluesy monster propelled by punk drumming; and 'Better Off Alone' is the perfect anti-love song drenched in drone organ."
