Price:

Catalog #:
BMR 019CD
Domestic jewel case issue of the most recent Boredoms album (previously available on Japanese Warner Bros. in a puffy plastic case). "On their 10th full length album Japan's Boredoms turn on, tune in (to each other) and drop out to an astral plane that you never even knew existed. Gone is the hyperactive, channel surfing, genre hopping of the past. In its place is communal psych jamming the likes of which have not been heard since vintage Butthole Surfers (remember that anyone?) or Amon Duul 1 or the most psychedelic sounds Funkadelic ever made all channeled through Eye and the band's encyclopedic musical knowledge. It all adds up to one disorientingly great listen that you will not soon forget. The US release is packaged with a massive 16 page booklet of Eye (damaging) artwork."

New domestic version now available. "
Vision Creation Newsun
follows the groovitude of the much-love
Super Are
with additional funkiness and space-time continuosity. It is funk, it is trance, it is drum'n'bass, and it is wayyyyy psychedelic. The Boredoms' pirouettes into new musical highs with each subsequent release have consistently impressed the world's rich supply of joyless humbugs, impressed the clinically indifferent, and amazed the unamazeable. They've been doing it for years. The same reliable line-up -- vocalist Yamantaka Eye leading a celebratory loin-cloth journey to the heart of the sun; guitarist Yamamoto Seiichi surfing grooves effortlessly with the silkiest pickin' since Ry Cooder discovered Sangria; Yoshimi P-we adding her graceful-as-the-kitchen-sink drumming style while keeping it with the corps; plus a new starship trooper who just pushes the beat farther into space -- that has always created music for all 'noids to rejoice to."

Price:

Catalog #:
RZCM 46037CD
Japanese-only live CD release from Boredoms featuring audio from their
77 Boa Drum
performance July 7, 2007 in New York on two CDs. Also includes a bonus photo book and DVD. "Deluxe package containing the full 100-minute '77 Boa Drum' performance on 2 CDs, split at the point in between the two sections of the piece. The two CDs are housed inside the front and back covers of a lovely 8"x12" hardcover book containing 28 pages of full color photos from the event. Also included is a DVD (NTSC format, All Region) including approximately 20 minutes of short segments from the performance. The presentation on this is truly top-notch. It's easily the most extravagant Boredoms artifact since 1999's
Vision Creation Newsun
box. The performance itself is an extraordinary example of the modern-day Boredoms approach to sprawling, rhythmic psychedelia. Their current lineup of three drummers (including mainstay Yoshimi P-We) plus EYE on electronics and vocals is further bolstered by an all-star cast of 74 additional drummers, including Hisham Bharoocha (Soft Circle, ex-Black Dice), Kid Millions (Oneida), Aaron Moore (Volcano The Bear), Tim DeWitt (ex-Gang Gang Dance), Dave Nuss (No Neck Blues Band), Andee Connors (A Minor Forest, Lumen), Sara Lund (Unwound), Ryan Sawyer (Tall Firs), Josh Madell (Antietam) and Brian Chippendale (Lightning Bolt) at #77." -- ning nong

Three song EP, in the 13-minute range. Mirror-embossed hard jacket sleeve. "We'd all been hearing rumours of the Boredoms' short-lived metaphorphosis & successive re-cocoon-ization from the premier Osaka-based trance/noise rock combo into a full-blown live jungle outfit but had nary seen or heard any proof of this phase in tangible documentation (aside, perhaps, from eYe's mix of Boredoms 'sister' band OOIOO on a now mythical Shock City 12"). Until now. Or not. Here are three separate takes of what seems to be an Isao Tomita (yes, THAT Tomita) original ("Jungle Taitei"), first interpreted by the Boredoms ensemble, then mutated by eYe (on the "DJ Let's TRY & D.I.Y.-Drum Machine" Mix), then reinterpreted by Yann Tomita (the "Laughter Robot's Hemp" Mix). The word 'jungle' here seems to be used in the more traditional (i.e.,. Martin Denny) sense; exotica-laden samples & enchanted island vox & human rhythms (sped up to completely alien tempos; perhaps the only 'jungle' jungle oriented activity herein) that don't fail to confound your sense of well being. Finely sussed & well 'out-there'. Sublime." --Hrvatksi

Rebore Vol. 1 (Compiled and DJ Mixed by UNKLE)
Label:
WARNER BROS (JAPAN)
Format:
CD
Price:
$34.00
Catalog #:
WPC6 10098
"In what appears to be a match made in heaven (hell?), the Boredoms have enlisted Mo' Wax's UNKLE (James Lavelle and Richard File) to assemble this 'Dysfunctional Monster Jam', a lengthy (by Warner Japan standards) 46:01 non-stop DJ mix of various records from the Eye and Co.'s catalog, and it's a killer. This is trance music in the Paleolithic sense of the word, with occasional breakbeats and scratching (courtesy of the Nextmen); more of a reminder that the Boredoms still have a lot more in common with Amon Duul than Amon Tobin. Considering the fact that the Boredoms have been leaning more towards a non-stop approach both live and on record, always relying on a core musical vision that would be termed percussive, this works on a number of levels. Phasing, the stray bird or two, plenty of vertiginous edits, flutes, the heavy guitar on occasion, and Eye's vocals that resemble the chattering of the DMT Elves that sit at an infinite number of typewriters and control the universe. Oh, and the Deputy Dawg Rorschach test on the mini-CD poster by Naohiro Ukawa and Ausgang is quite a stunner in it's own right. Unique is as unique does." -- Billy Kiely

Rebore Vol. 3 (Compiled and DJ Mixed by DJ Krush)
Label:
WARNER BROS (JAPAN)
Format:
CD
Price:
$32.00
Catalog #:
WPC6 10119
"Third installment of this awesome BORE-manip program in which Krush works out (of) the back-catalogue over 44:51. 808 bass bombs, large amounts of guitar noise, some great gated phased drum bits (a nod towards early minimalism? you decide), parts of certain choons left intact, morphed with others. Surprisingly not the low-bit late-night crackle-pop stoner hip hop jam we were all expecting but something... slightly more challenging in a way, with a good deal of plunderphonia, digital editing, etc... An unlikely match that works... oh so well (on so many levels). Just damn gratifying." -- Hrvatski.

Japanese release of the most recent Boredoms studio album! [since licensed to Vice in the US] "Shaking! Amazement! A Thundering Blast of Fresh Air! Tears of Gratitude! Astounding! It's been a long time since their last release back in 1998, but a new work under the name Boredoms has been completed! The members have individually been playing in innumerable other bands over an incredible range, but finally the real thing starts! With the Boredoms' following of hardcore fans not only in Japan but overseas as well, what type of album is coming? This is an album to look out for!"
