Alex Ridha aka Boys Noize has been a true pioneer and electro stalwart for over a decade. From DJing for the likes of DJ Hell and Felix Da Housecat at the age of 16, his career has seen him move to the top of the game. 2LP version (CD is released by Last Gang Records in the U.S.). One of the future's brightest electronic musicians, Berlin's Alex Ridha aka Boys Noize presents his second full-length album, Power. Ridha is, alongside peers Erol Alkan and Justice, part of a new mongrel breed of techno/electronica artist with a maverick bent and solid vision, beaming a myriad of influences from the past through a prism to create something fresh, new and exciting. Ridha has also become a sought-after producer of note, having worked with Kelis, Black Eyed Peas and Gonzales and officially remixing for the likes of Depeche Mode, Snoop Dogg, Late Of The Pier, and Royksopp. He has also mixed highly-regarded DJ compilations such as Bugged Out! and I Love Techno 2008 (MM 034CD). Instead of following the commercial path after the unexpected success of Oi Oi Oi, Boys Noize passed on any big feature names, eschewed the great pop approach, and avoided feeding trends. Power starts where Oi Oi Oi ended and shows the freshest of electronica and techno music. "Gax" features synths that flange forever, next to dark, robotic, chanting vocal samples, bolstered by an addictive, recurring synth pattern; "Drummer" is all rave-y bass-drum thud and swish, with squelching patterns rubber-balling and rising ever upwards; "Starter" is pummeling, stuttering drum machine, pitted against grinding guitar samples and crystalline plinks; and "Trooper" features steady, hard tribal drum patterns and a foreboding clarion call against A.I. vocal samples, like some sort of score to a cyborg apocalypse, and so on. Ridiculously danceable, futuristic, forward-thinking techno that announces the dawn of a new age.

Two killer remixes of "Jeffer" off of Boys Noize's second full-length album, Power. Modeselektor's mix sounds like the good old days of Audion when he was not so minimal. It is a full-on techno mix but is equally playable for house or new rave DJs as well. It extends genre boundaries and presents a sound that will appeal to everybody. On the flip, you get Para One's banging epic version that features a killer breakdown and new melodies.

"Kontact Me" is taken from Boys Noize's Power LP (BNR 037LP), and its dark bass line and vocals are set to brainwash your head. Hot newcomers take remix duty, including Rynecologist, who took the original idea and brought it to the next level. Jan Driver returned a heavyweight techno version, and Housemeister crafted something dirty. As a surprise, three members of The Faint teamed up as Depressed Buttons, revealing their thorough understanding of good electronic club music.

In 2009, Boys Noize released Power (BNR 037LP) and here are two tracks from the album plus remixes by Robert Hood, Paul Chambers, Shadow Dancer, and Phon.O. Hood turns "Trooper" into a techno-machine, with big dry kick drums and static percussion. Phon.O makes it into an epic warehouse dub mix. "Nott" is a modern tech-rave track and Paul Chambers takes you on an adventure through bleeps and acid. Shadow Dancer reduces the important bits and makes it more house-y. Limited green vinyl version.

He has also remixed tracks for Snoop Dogg, Depeche Mode, Feist, Bloc Party, Justice, Gonzales and many more. Following on from his Boys Noize label compilation BNR Vol.1, Mr. Ridha hits us from all angles of the techno sphere. From superb cut-up rave from MMM and Errorsmith to Alter Ego's teutonic onslaught, DMX Krew's vocodered electro, Steve Rachmad's deep grooves and the energetic fun(k) of Diplo's remix of Bingo Player's "Get Up," Boys Noize is bringing back techno's early "maximal" rave blast.
