"Larval is an ever changing lineup of some of the best musicians in Detroit. Led by composer Bill Brovold, it is an amalgamation of styles and approaches to music, from quiet and thoughtful passages to an aggressive onslaught of screaming horns, guitars and assorted strings. Bill Brovold studied painting at the School of Visual Arts in NYC and received his degree in 1982. While there he was making music (and sounds) for film makers and performance artists. In 1983, he joined the ensemble of experimental/no-wave legend Rhys Chatham as guitarist and stayed on until 1988. In 1994, he moved to the Detroit area, where he formed Larval. This is Larval's fifth album, comprising their new studio recording and a second disc covering seven years of potent live work. Larval's experimental rock often combines wall-of-sound guitars, bass and drums with saxes and violin, and is very direct and powerful."
