Much needed archival Sandy Bull release, recorded on the same night as Water's John Fahey set (The Great Santa Barbara Oil Slick, in 1969. Elegant packaging, with great liner notes from Byron Coley and booklet photography from Baron Wolman. Bull was one of the most seminal string instrumentalists of the past 50 years, but you can still tally his entire discography on less than 2 full hands (and the most important albums -- E Pluribus Unum, Fantasias, Inventions -- fucking Vanguard can't even be bothered to keep in print!) -- so any addition is something to behold. "Sandy Bull is known for some of the first extended instrumental compositions for guitar that incorporated elements of folk, jazz, and Indian and Arabic-influenced dronish modes. This album, taken from two nights of performances in February 1969 recorded at San Francisco's legendary Matrix, finds Bull experimenting with guitar electronics, as well as working out on the acoustic instruments that were the mainstay of his Vanguard Records Fantasias and Inventions albums. Deluxe packaging features rare photos and detailed liner notes."
