Artist: CATZ 'N DOGZ
Title: Fixation/A Chicken Affair
Label: DIRTYBIRD
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: DBIRD 013EP
"3 Channels, the two prolific minimal producers from Poland who turned in one of the very best remixes of 'Who's Afraid of Detroit?' last year, return to Dirtybird with a new alias called Catz 'n Dogz. This duo is really delivering some great music that harkens back to the old days of house music when people had fun and parties were all about different kinds of music and not sticking to one genre. Check it."

Title: Armadillo EP
Label: LEENA (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: LEENA 002EP
"Hot on the heels of its first release, Mobilee's new sublabel Leena returns with another 12" single designed to thrill. You already know Catz n' Dogz as 3 Channels -- - with releases on Trapez, Trenton, Crosstown Rebels and most recently, Claude VonStroke's Dirtybird label. For their first release as Catz n' Dogz, they continue their tradition of combining minimalist structures with full-bore sound design, turning out a twisted double A-side single. 'Searching' wastes no time looking for its groove: it digs in right away with a bottom-heavy bounce that rolls unstoppably through thick and thin. In keeping with its title, it's something of a two-part proposition. The first half is all about pushing forward, ducking distraction, and maintaining speed as stray noises and schizoid samples blast from every angle. The second half is all about revelation, in the form of a deep, pumping synth pattern that cuts through the darkness like a beacon drawing the faithful back to Detroit. From here on out, intrepid explorers, we are at home in the temple of house music. The search concluded, all that's left to do is celebrate, long and loud, hands held aloft by a single string note that threads all the way back to disco's heyday. Halle-fuckin'-lujah. 'A Tribute to Kolfun' is a more cryptic affair. Beginning with a demure keyboard arpeggio draped in delay, it builds slowly, spinning in the wind like a pinwheel, twisting between minor and major keys. Dancefloors these days are full of anthemic melodies, but this one is different. It doesn't force its emotions upon you, it just filters and amplifies your state of mind. Two and a half minutes in: a subtle bloom of color. Three minutes: a burst of movement in the shadows. Four and a half minutes: a rush of blood to the head and the heart, and all."

Title: Stars of Zoo
Label: MOTHERSHIP
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: MSHIP 011CD
First full-length release on Claude von Stroke's Mothership label, subsidiary of Dirtybird. This is the debut release by Catz 'N Dogz, the Polish duo who also comprise 3 Channels. 3 Channels have amazing releases on Crosstown Rebels, Trapez, and Dirtybird, but Catz 'N Dogz is a totally new and original sound. Stars of Zoo is a hybrid masterpiece; a beautiful cross between the best elements of deep house, minimal techno, and cinematically-arranged live instrumentation. This is an album of songs, not tracks, yet each individual segment of the album -- from the lush sonic soundscapes of "Sunset in the East" to the complicated spirals of "2" -- reveals new delightful details upon each listen. Catz 'N Dogz have created a sound that is at once timeless and contemporary, respecting techno's past by keeping their sights firmly set on its future. Featuring guest artists dOP, The Nature Boys, Monty Luke, and Mathias Kaden.

Title: Stars of Zoo Part 2: Omanko
Label: MOTHERSHIP
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: MSHIP 012EP
Omanko is the only word that is unmentionable in Japanese media and public speech. It's also the second volume of singles from Stars of Zoo by Catz 'n Dogz. A hybrid of cinematic swells, quirky drums and guitar plucks, its unorthodox groove builds relentlessly, anchored by a shouting chorus and warm bass bubbles. The keyboard theme will tip the peak-time crowd over the edge. Italoboyz integrate shards from the original into their tension-fuelled agenda, with breakdowns, vocals and baritone sax stabs.

Title: Stars of Zoo Part 3: SF & 2
Label: MOTHERSHIP
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: MSHIP 013EP
The third installment in the Catz 'n Dogz vinyl series. "SF" is a throwback to classic house with a modern twist -- a playground full of joyful children invade its sly, bongo-laden grooves. "2" is more ominous -- its primary percussion enters like springs filling up an echo chamber, gradually morphing into several competing themes that weave together. The bass is a serious force, creating a physical presence that must be heard on a large system to be believed.

Title: Stars Of Zoo Part 4: Sunset In The East
Label: MOTHERSHIP
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: MSHIP 014EP
The fourth and final installment in the Catz 'N Dogz 12" series. "Sunset In The East" is an epic opus, gradually unfolding in a cascade of warm toms, luxuriant ride cymbals, and assured sax stabs from talented guests dOP. On the flip, Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts' remix distills the track into the purest, most primal house music imaginable. His arrangement deftly remolds the sax sections to suit the track's progression, blurring the lines between percussion and instrumentation.
