Title: Drive Time
Label: FIRST CASK (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: FSK 014CD
Ceephax's Drive Time was released as a bonus cassette in 2000, accompanying his first untitled album, and it's a killer cult classic. Copies rarely appear on eBay, and are now just simply unaffordable. This is a whole hour of music ranging from banging vocal acid to the deepest and darkest side of ambient, with all points in between covered with an air of hectic excitement and trenchant experimentalism. The 27 tracks are a perfect manifesto for Andy Jenkinson's original music universe -- his roots, which are less club-oriented, and far, far more experimental than one would think. Mastering this kaleidoscope of sound took quite a while, as you can imagine. As satisfying to listen to as anyone's weirdest, most secret basement tapes, this is an early, tripped-out odyssey through the young, embryonic mind of this squirrely acid experimenter.

Title: Volume One
Label: REPHLEX (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: REPH 185CD
This is the second full-length release from UK's Ceephax: also known as Andy Jenkinson. Volume One encompasses an old school acid sensibility crossed with the energy and innovation of the famous "Universal Indicator" acid series, plus a melodic and moody experimental side that is revealed in his mellower moments. Following his debut remixes of Squarepusher's "Bioslate" on Rephlex in 1998, he has released a multitude of EPs and albums on a variety of labels (Breakin'/Firstcask/WeMe/Bug Klinik/Warp/Lo Recordings etc.) Volume One represents his first album since the highly acclaimed Exidy Tours in 2003, with a second installment to follow later in 2007. The style is techno/acid/house/drum and bass/experimental/ambient... basically all electronic/dance styles, i.e. braindance. Similar in style to his other recent releases, only better! In Jenkinson's hands the sound of the 303 has taken on a new and important role that has surpassed the lame and predictable offerings from the psy-trance and acid techno camps. With a nod towards yesterday's heroes from Detroit, Chicago, Holland and Germany, Ceephax pushes the acid sound to the limit, from one end of the sonic spectrum to the other. Pummeling technoid pounders, spazzed-out breakbeats and other assorted genre-defying experiments allow Jenkinson to smash the wonders of acid into those fortunate enough to witness his live performance.

This is the third full-length release from the UK's Ceephax: also known as Andy Jenkinson, younger brother to Squarepusher. Following on from his Volume One release earlier this year, Volume Two encompasses an old school acid sensibility crossed with the energy and innovation of the famous Universal Indicator acid series, plus a melodic and moody experimental side that is revealed in mellower moments.
