Title: Live-Evil
Label: 4 MEN WITH BEARDS
Format: 2LP
Price: $27.00
Catalog #: 4M 809LP
"Originally released in 1971, Live-Evil is one of Davis' most extraordinary records. Here, on a double album comprised of both live and studio recordings, the electric sound that Davis first unveiled the year previous emerges as a fully formed and powerful beast. Featuring one of his finest bands, which included John McLaughlin, Keith Jarrett, Gary Bartz, Jack DeJohnette, and Brazilian percussionist Airto, Live-Evil is a stunning exploration of the outer limits of jazz, and one of the most influential records of the '70s. Absolutely essential." Gatefold sleeve; on 180 gram vinyl.

Title: Pangaea
Label: 4 MEN WITH BEARDS
Format: 2LP
Price: $27.00
Catalog #: 4M 810LP
"Recorded on the same day as Agharta, Pangaea's two LPs of material are culled from the evening performances at Osaka's Festival Hall. Featuring just two songs, both clocking in at over 40 minutes, Pangaea shows Miles' band really stretching itself to the limit. Live electric jazz-fusion from the undisputed master of the genre." On 180 gram vinyl; housed in a deluxe gatefold full-color sleeve.

Title: Agharta
Label: 4 MEN WITH BEARDS
Format: 2LP
Price: $27.00
Catalog #: 4M 811LP
"Agharta was recorded at the Osaka Festival Hall on February 1, 1975 and originally released on double LP only in Japan. Featuring one of Miles Davis' strongest lineups from his electric period, Agharta is a smoking set of jazz-funk fusion, featuring blistering live interpretations of some of his finest compositions. Davis recorded another fantastic double LP, Pangaea, on the same day proving him to be an unrivaled talent in both creativity and output." 180 gram vinyl; housed in a full-color gatefold sleeve.

Title: Dark Magus
Label: 4 MEN WITH BEARDS
Format: 2LP
Price: $27.00
Catalog #: 4M 812LP
"Dark Magus was recorded at Carnegie Hall in 1974 but went unreleased until 1977, when it was put out in Japan only. As a result, these stunning live recordings have been incredibly hard to find on vinyl, until now. These are some of the heaviest, and headiest, tracks Davis ever cut, and his band is in top form. Absolutely classic and essential electric jazz fusion from the dude that invented the genre." Gatefold sleeve; on 180 gram vinyl.

Title: Live At The Philarmonie In Berlin, 1st November, 1973
Label: B13 (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $27.00
Catalog #: B 141LP
"In 1973 Miles Davis Septet embarked on a tour of Europe, playing and recording dates in France, Italy, Yugoslavia, and this smokin' date at the Philharmonie concert hall in Berlin. By this period Davis and his band were fully electrified, with electric guitar and bass replacing the more traditional jazz instruments, and Davis himself playing his trumpet through a wah wah pedal. This is 1973 and rhythm is the name of the game, as can be heard in the use of double drummers throughout (James Mtume on congas and Al Foster on drums), and a range of hand percussion instruments. Even Miles heads into percussive territory taking over the keys with some funky organ playing. Jazz fusion at its finest." On clear green vinyl in clear plastic sleeve with red lettering. Limited edition 500 copies.

Title: Live At Hill Auditorium, Ann Arbor, Michigan, 21st Feb. 1970
Label: B13 (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $27.00
Catalog #: B 148LP
"Invited to play the University of Michigan in February of 1970, Miles Davis treated audiences to one of the most groundbreaking moments in jazz. He played the title track from his upcoming Bitches Brew album. The album would not be released until a few months later, so those who were in the audience were privy to a revolution in jazz in the making. Bringing in electric instruments and a guitar-heavy, rock-infused sensibility, Miles Davis once again led jazz music into the future. When Bitches Brew was finally released it became Miles Davis' first gold album and one of the first jazz albums to cross over to a rock audience. Side two of this album is taken from a show Miles' septet played near Zurich in October 1971. 'Yesternow' had been recently released on Miles' Tribute To Jack Johnson album. This album is also considered one of the greatest jazz fusion albums in history. In keeping with the black power message, the central theme of 'Yesternow' is appropriately taken from James Brown's historic 'Say It Loud,' while 'Sanctuary,' is a Wayne Shorter composition from Bitches Brew." Yellow vinyl LP in clear plastic sleeve with black lettering. Limited edition 500 copies.

Title: Live At Neue Stadthalle In Dietikon, Switzerland, 1971
Label: B13 (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $27.00
Catalog #: B 149LP
"Rare 1971 live recording from a concert Miles Davis played with his electrified fusion septet-Gary Bartz (sax), Keith Jarrett (keyboards), Michael Henderson (electric bass), Ndugu Leon Chancler (drums), Charles Don Alias (congas), James Mtume Foreman (congas) -- at the Stadthalle venue in Dietikon, near Zurich. This appears to be a soundboard recording, although the sound quality is excellent. Appropriately Miles leads off the set with 'Directions,' a Joe Zawinul composition that was part of the pioneering In A Silent Way sessions. Miles opened every live concert with this piece for many years. 'Funky Tonk' and 'What I Say' gave audiences a preview of his upcoming Live Evil album on Columbia, released just a month after this show." Clear yellow vinyl LP in clear plastic sleeve with blue lettering. Limited edition 500 copies.

Title: Live At Teatro Tenda Pianeta, Rome, Italy, 1982 (1st Set)
Label: B13 (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $27.00
Catalog #: B 154LP
"After six years spent away from the public eye (1975-1981) due to a long period of illness and addiction, Miles Davis finally returned to music with 1981's The Man With the Horn. And just to prove that he was fully out of retirement, Davis embarked on a tour of Europe in the spring of 1982. It was his first European tour since 1971 and fans came out in droves to see the Prince Of Darkness. By April 26 April 1982 Davis and an all-star band (featuring Bill Evans on sax, Marcus Miller on bass, Mike Stern on guitar, Al Foster on drums and French musician Minu Cinelu on percussions) had made their way down to Rome where they played two sold out sets. The first set, was a forty-six minute medley featuring Davis' own 'Back Seat Betty', Gershwin's 'My Man's Gone Now' from Porgy & Bess, and in a nod to his Italian fans, Giuseppe Verdi's 'Aida.'" Yellow vinyl in clear plastic sleeve with black lettering (limited edition 500 copies).

Title: Miles Davis Quartet
Label: DOXY (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $23.00
Catalog #: DOX 803LP
"This album is composed of three different sessions. The first session (Side A) was recorded at WOR Studios in NYC in May of 1953 and features Miles Davis on trumpet, John Lewis on piano, Charlie Mingus on bass and piano, Percy Heath on bass, and Max Roach on drums, while the second session (all of side B, except for 'I'll Remember April') was recorded at NYC's Beltone studios in March 1954 and features Miles Davis on trumpet, Horace Silver on piano, Percy Heath on bass and Art Blakey on drums. 'I'll Remember April' was recorded on a third session the following month at Rudy Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, NJ, and features Miles Davis on trumpet, Dave Schildkraut on alto saxophone, Horace Silver on piano, Percy Heath on bass and Kenny Clarke on drums. All three sessions hail from Davis' 'Prestige period' which stretched from 1951-1955 and during which time Davis had developed an addiction to heroin. However, according to some sources it was precisely between the recording of the first two sessions that appear here that Davis went back home to St. Louis to get clean. He was largely successful, and so this album marks a major turning point in Davis' career."

Title: Diggin' With The Miles Davis Sextet
Label: DOXY (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: DOX 804LP
"Originally released as the Prestige 10" Dig, it was later reissued as a 12" with additional tracks. The Diggin' title comes from a later reissue, which was supposed to fall in with the 'Cookin',' 'Steamin',' 'Workin',' etc. series. This album actually has nothing to do with that later period, but it is a still a very good representation of an early Miles at his best, forging ahead with his own cool bop style. This sextet features Davis on trumpet, a young Jackie McLean on alto sax (his debut recording), Sonny Rollins on tenor sax, Walter Bishop Jr. on piano, Tommy Potter or Charles Mingus on bass and Art Blakey on drums."

Title: Miles 1954
Label: DOXY (ITALY)
Format: 2LP
Price: $32.00
Catalog #: DOX 816LP
"After playing cool jazz for a few years, Davis recorded an album called Walkin' and 'hard bop' was born. The year was 1954. Hard bop was still slower than bebop, but more driving than cool jazz. Where cool jazz is sometimes referred to as 'chamber jazz,' hard bop brought in elements of R&B and gospel. The Walkin' album is now considered to be one of Davis' seminal albums, with his all-star rhythm section playing behind him, Horace Silver on piano, and the one-two punch of Kenny Clarke on drums and Percy Heath on bass delivering the goods, as they always did. Heath and Clarke went on to do another important session that year with Davis, but in addition to Horace Silver on piano there was another genius of the ivories, Thelonious Monk. This, of course, was the infamous 'Christmas Eve session', which eventually became two albums, Bags' Groove (based on Milt Jackson's theme), and Miles Davis and the Modern Jazz Giants. These two albums are important because they are one of the few instances of Davis and Monk playing together. 1954 was also a significant year because it was Davis' last year in relative obscurity, the following year he played 'Well You Needn't' at the Newport Jazz Festival and the rest is history. All this happened in 1954. And it's all on this Doxy album!"

Title: Milesin'
Label: DOXY (ITALY)
Format: 3LP
Price: $36.00
Catalog #: DOX 817LP
"On May 11 and October 26, 1956 the Miles Davis Quintet, featuring John Coltrane on tenor sax, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and 'Philly' Joe Jones on drums, went into the studio to record two mammoth sessions in the Rudy Van Gelder studio. This studio time resulted in four legendary hard bop albums: Cookin', Relaxin', Workin', and Steamin' with the Miles Davis Quintet. For these sessions the quintet simply played their live set straight through, as if they were playing at a club. One take. That's it. And as a result, these albums are as close as anyone (who wasn't there) will ever come to knowing what one of the most memorable jazz combos in history must have sounded like live. The incredible tension between all five musicians shines through -- Miles' poised and sparing trumpet in stark contrast with Coltrane's more urgent and note heavy sax, backed by one of the best rhythm sections in jazz -- and the studio banter that can be heard makes it feel like you are in a stage-side seat. Interestingly, there is very little original material, but what we do have is a glimpse straight into the heart of what was popular in jazz music at the time. Because of the unique way in which these albums were recorded, it is only fitting that they be brought together in one package, and on vinyl as nature intended. Now they have also been remastered by the original sound engineer Rudy Van Gelder himself, who commented, 'I remember those sessions well, I remember how the musicians wanted to sound...Today, I feel strongly that I am their messenger.'"

Title: Lift To The Scaffold
Label: DOXY (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $23.00
Catalog #: DOX 833LP
"1958 film noir by the great Louis Malle, starring Jeanne Moreau and Maurice Ronet. Not only was the film genre defining, but so was the soundtrack by Miles Davis, propelling the young player and composer forward into the type of modal jazz that would soon make history. Amazingly a 24-year-old Malle, who had not yet made a feature length film, but who was a huge jazz fan, intercepted Miles Davis at the airport and managed to convince him to make the music for the film. Miles Davis and his musicians, who included the Kenny Clarke on drums, as well as three French musicians, improvised this soundtrack in one night, from dusk to dawn, while watching the film and occasionally consulting with Malle. The film, which can be considered a precursor to the New Wave of French cinema won Malle the prestigious Louis Delluc prize and it can also be stated that the very spirit of jazz and the New Wave of French cinema are contained in this film and its soundtrack."
