Title: Musica Libre - Dinky In The Mix
Label: COCOON (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CORMIX 028CD
This is the first mix CD from Alejandra Iglesias aka Dinky on the Cocoon label. Dinky is not a stranger to the scene, especially since her sensational 12" for Cocoon Recordings Acid In My Fridge. She has run the Horizontal label since 2005, where she releases -- besides her own, often experimental tracks -- music from Matthew Styles, Jambi, Andres Bucci and more. "The mix is rather a non-conventional mix, as there are many unreleased tracks from friends and artists that I deeply admire, like Bruno Pronsato, Matthew Styles and The Mole, as well as some tracks from ladies I really love musically, like Nina Kraviz, Laverne Radix or Deniz Kurtel who provide an extra feminine touch. I also assembled different styles, so it is like a three-hour-set condensed to one hour. The idea is to show as much freedom in dance music as possible -- the mix is not solely intended for the club or a big room, but is focused on the most intimate club, after-hour and warm-up moments with a strong emphasis on atmosphere. Emotion, femininity and depth are very important for me as an artist. I also try to keep the mix very modern, almost avant garde and visual, with new sounds and cutting edge tracks but without missing the club groove. As DJs, we usually feel we need to please hundreds or thousands of people in a club or at festivals. We have the pressure to make the ravers dance, scream and raise their hands frantically. Of course, we are in the club to party -- but I feel and wish that sometimes we would try to be more brave and show the other side of the coin, which I will try to do with this project. This 'rave alarm pressure' is limiting us too much as artists and keeps us afraid of playing the most challenging, deep and beautiful music, as we are afraid of losing the floor. I wanted to get rid of this fear on this mix and show another side of dance music." --Dinky, January 2010; Other artists include: Odd Machine, Maayam Nidam, Demarkus Lewis, Vlad Caia, Soulcapsule, No Regular Play, The Updates, Danuel Tate, Tensnake, Blunted Dummies, Pedro, Seuil, Ricardo Villalobos, and Pier Bucci.

Title: Horizontal EP
Label: HORIZONTAL
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: HORIZON 001EP
"Busy world travelling DJ-producer Alejandra Iglesias aka Dinky finally launches her own label 'Horizontal.' After the minimal techno hit 'Acid in my Fridge' (Cocoon records) and several outstanding remixes, Horizontal underlines the episode in her book surprising with 3 delicious but not-at-all minimal tracks. A side 'Horizontal' a slow house-percussive-jam, with a beautiful piano in the background; a mixture between Moodyman and Omar S, dry and with an incredible sense of humor. The B1 side 'Dizzy,' a song inspired in the infamous Club der Visionaire in Berlin, where once Villalobos was playing and 'Dizzy' was born.' B2 'Sabana,' a psychedelic deep techno track, feels like Jeff Mills -- played by Luciano, Villalobos and Tobi Neumann in the past months.!"

Title: Home On a Sunday
Label: HORIZONTAL
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: HORIZON 002EP
"A1 'Home on a Sunday' is a ten minute long piece with a lovely ambient intro and sensual vocal samples by Dinky talking about DJ life, where not everything is so good and glamorous as it seems from the outside world. This techno-house track develops smoothly and rhythmically leading into a Moroder meets Villalobos mixture ending with deep melodic keys. The record has been strongly supported by Loco Dice, Tobi Neumann, Damian Lazarus and Magda, to name but a few and before its release it has been licensed by Magda's & Tobi Neumanns mix CDs . B1 'Unidog' 1991 meets 2006, a peculiar track with a dissonant off-rhythm feeling that gives a sensation of confusion on top of a catchy baseline. A minimal piece with great dynamics, sound design and sequencing a la Plastikman. Also supported by the Minus posse B2 'Michelle,' a soulful slow house piece full of textures, Latin percussion, melody and small vocal parts reminding us of 'Vodoo Ray' but more abstract. Michelle is a beautiful musical dream with a dark killer bassline and a touch of sexy humor. Home on a Sunday should rather be called Club on a Sunday; the perfect balance between minimal techno and pop."

Title: Ringing
Label: HORIZONTAL
Format: 2x12"
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: HORIZON 005EP
"The most recent Horizontal record brings us Berlin resident and Chilean native Dinky, who releases a beautifully packaged 4-tracker in a double pack for maximum sound quality and club power. Dinky currently holds a residency at the incredible Panoramabar in Berlin, as well as Frankfurt's Room 106. As well as founding Horizontal, she is also signed to Cocoon Records; who released the massive single Acid In My Fridge in 2005. A-side 'Horizontal' carries the label's name, and was actually present on the label's debut release. Since then, demand has dictated that this hip house classic be released again. The fat, tapped live percussion foreground and hazy, ethereal background paints a picture punctuated by gasps and stroked key licks in a sweat soaked, and distinctly Latin summer soiree. Second on the A side, 'Lazed' is an innovative techno track, with Dinky pushing sustained tones and bleeps to an ambient guitar crescendo. B-side 'Ringing' is a highly original minimal house track with great sequencing work that develops into a hypnotic arpeggio, with Dinky's vocal solo adding a dizzy tension to proceedings amidst the alarm like reverberations and determined bass drive. A3 'Jack' is a strong dancefloor track already advocated by the floors of Panoramabar and Dc10. In the artists own words it's 'Chicago house meets Chilean minimalism.'"

Title: May Be Later
Label: VAKANT (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: VA 003CD
This is Dinky's third album and her first full-length release on Vakant, after the Move In EP (VA 020EP). Dinky has brought with her a welcome infusion of freshness and bloom to the otherwise dank locker room. May Be Later, like the artist, is the prototypical combination of beauty and brawn. Dinky's long journey began in her native Chile, growing up playing piano and experimenting with modern dance and choreography. As a teen, she listened to artists as diverse as Brian Eno to Prince, before finding electronic music from Plastikman, Aphex Twin, and Carl Craig in the mid-'90s. She made lifelong connections in the Santiago scene with Ricardo Villalobos, Dandy Jack, and Luciano, and was soon sharing stages with them. In the late '90s, Dinky moved from Santiago to New York City to join the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and was also introduced to American house, the evolution of techno, and parties like Body and Soul, NASA raves, and Twilo. Soon, at 23 and armed only with an MPC 2000, her original productions began. Dancing during the day, she was making a name for herself as a DJ by night, eventually hosting regular underground parties with Magda until she was forced to leave the States for Berlin due to post-9/11 visa restrictions. With her new home came chart-topping productions, mega-club residencies, live performances, and international recognition. May Be Later bridges sound and mood from the summery and sublime to the dark and throbbing. While "Mars Cello" floats and warms, "Burdelia" chugs somewhere between Chicago and early NYC house. "Fade Me In" zips along with furious kink and dubious vox by Dinky's longtime friend Jorge González. "Seven 2 Seven," when aimed at 8am Berlin ravers, massive freakouts ensue. "She Is Moving" features minimal vocalist extraordinaire Big Bully, attaining a vital equilibrium of naughty and nice. The album closes with "Mind," an electronic fusion -- moving, looming, eerie, and reassuring. This album shows Alejandra Iglesias' development, exposing the paths, connections and influences that brought her here. The beach, NYC underground in all its flavors, Berlin, the stage, Detroit, electronic waves from all directions, Chicago, mega-clubs... it's all here and it's all her own.

Title: Move In EP
Label: VAKANT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: VA 020EP
"The delectable Chilean mistress Dinky has infiltrated the Vakant Berlin Boys Tec Team (VBBTT). A welcome infusion of sweet freshness has filled the otherwise dank locker room and the boyz will never be the same. Don't be misled, it's not all rosewater and kittens. This girl is packin' guns. Not only does Dinky bring us the next Vakant EP, but an album coming this fall as well, her third. The long road that brought Ms. Iglesias from Chile to NYC to Berlin to a mega dancefloor near you is happily bumpin' along, parked here currently at the Vakant robo trucker park of wonder and her own spot Horizontal. A side 'She is Moving' features L.A. minimal funk vocalist turned Brooklynite Dawson Bacca a.k.a. Big Bully. Together they attain that vital equilibrium of naughty and nice: synthy klinky funky and soulful-y. Flip side reveals a funk of a different sort. 'Da 20s' is a dryer pursuit of the bounce, just as motivationally effective but got Sunday summer afternoon written all over it. Can you feel the sun? Mmmmm warm and Dinky."

Title: Lydian EP
Label: WAGON REPAIR (CANADA)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: WAG 052EP
Dinky aka Alejandra Inglesias presents the first single from her Wagon Repair debut album. "Wind" mesmerizes with repetitive keys looped over a straight kick. Chirped tones pulse amidst descending melodic chimes in a steadily-evolving elemental journey that equally evokes Reich and Cobblestone Jazz. "Outro" establishes territory with intoxicating arpeggio melodies, while "Wet Hair" plunges into submarine depths. "Butterfly" is saturated with a variety of sounds; from indigenous samples to wobbly bass and detuned keys -- disorienting and enchanting.

Title: Anemik
Label: WAGON REPAIR (CANADA)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WAG 056CD
This is Dinky's fourth studio album. Following up on her unanimously-acclaimed album May Be Later (VA 003CD/024LP), Chilean artist and Berlin transplant Alejandra Iglesias conceived Anemik entirely for the Wagon Repair label after being approached by label head Mathew Jonson. A musing on femininity and the fine line between romance and delirium, Anemik transcends borders in its range of influence and reflects consciousness in the fluidity and tangibly live origins of its creation. Recorded using analog equipment and acoustic instruments with a strong emphasis on voice, there is a wisdom and maturity to this work. Opener "Childish" builds from meditative beginnings with looped synth, wandering pads and wildfire percussive cycles that concoct a deep and dreamy landscape. "Romaniks" creates space between electronic and acoustic spheres with Latin-soaked beats encircling a subdued kick. Mantric vocal chants inject a mystical dimension into the affair, its psychedelic overtones continuing into "Westoid," where Dinky's vocal lament is complimented by the baritone accents of Los Updates' enigmatic Jorge Gonzáles. "Goldfishes" bubbles into being with processed choral scales, while "Rainfallic" is a mid-tempo trip of lazy legato harmonies and epic Telecaster drones. "Anemik" is a restless electronic frenzy, with melodic and percussive elements feuding amidst staccato vocals, effervescent machine transmissions and a penetrating central kick. "Glacial" opens with reverberant vocals and deep percussion that swims through murky pads and delayed keys. "Ceramik" weaves a tight beat, with warm Rhodes accompaniment, live percussion and ramped vocal passages. Thumbed melodic patterns and sonorous key stabs characterize "Glassik," while "Skyped" intertwines grandiose processed chorals, deep metallic percussion and leveling pads. The infectious, arpeggiated melodies of "Epilepsia" are invigorated by live Latin percussion, "Fadik" is a wonky love song set to cascading beats, strummed guitar and electronic emissions, and "Nocturnal" unsettles with moribund ambient shivers to complete the kaleidoscopic range of flavors and emotions offered by this remarkable record. At times dreamy, at times nightmarish, at times romantic, at times befuddled, Anemik is always quintessentially Dinky.
